Hello one year later, and I find myself back at their online shop, still enamored with their calendars and prisms and delighted to see they've added new products to their range. And so another post to proclaim my love for the company. They have a new calendar for 2011 with lyrics instead of images, but my favorite product is the collaboration with artist Barbara Reiser, transfering one of her prints onto a candle. I am a candle gal, and this one is about as cosy and warm as a candle can be. I want. But really, I should gift and let others discover the wild unknown.

Fine Words

Words that say something. Lovely.

Salmon in Winter

I don't know about elsewhere in the world, but here in London it is freezing outside. Skipped autumn, straight to winter. Or perhaps my internal thermometer is just maladjusted seeing as I am currently dealing with my first cold of the season. Anyway, point being, that when the weather gets cold, everyone's wardrobe seems to get grim. Black black navy black ooh slate gray black. Hence why I appreciate Totokaelo's styling in their Fall/Winter Looks, with the unexpected splashes of salmon (courtesy of A.P.C). Vibrant pink when it's cold outside...why not? Matches my cheeks.

That being said, the below outfit is much more my style, but not because of the black. Rather my eye covets that kinda-ugly-colour but-I-love-it cardigan. What is that colour called? Rust, perhaps. And those leggings. Well. They had me at hello.

how i feel about the changing seasons

Dip in the temperature, but a bright blue sky.

Cozying up in big hats and bigger jumpers.

Drinking delicious quality coffee from the independents; fuck you Starbucks I don't need to drink your shitty coffee just so I can study for hours anymore.

Moving on from student life, hoping I'll find a career or it will find me.

I do love autumn. The shadows, his back, her legs splayed, the overt sexuality, the role reversal, her gaze objectifying the man in a way that she is normally objectified. It's a picture to be analyzed for hours.

I finally saw it in person, displayed at Tate Modern's Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance and the Camera exhibition, which is quite an interesting show. Sometimes they are wise words, sometimes they are not. The problem with me and rules, is that I will decide, 'oh, yes what excellent rules to live by' and then promptly, accidentally, forget about them. But there are a few rules (found on Details magazine 'Rules of Style') that are worthy of remembering, scrawling on a scrap of paper, repeating to oneself, even if they aren't explicitly followed. The ones that I like the most are less style rules and more suggestions for living a life well led or ones that simply make me laugh.

I love the back. A beautiful back makes a beautiful front. When you slouch, think about what happens to your front. You have to keep your back in the right position. This is where your spirit lies. Yohji Yamamoto

Classic simplicity always works. Tom Ford

Cheesy music makes a party. Donna Summer or Madonna—that stuff gets people on the dance floor. Then you have to have junk food, done well, because that’s what everyone really wants. Micheal Kors

I’m a big fan of old Shetland sweaters. Even if they end up badly dressed, if they're happy, it’s okay. Kean Etro

Style is a question of charm, not nationality. Veronique Nichanian

It’s sad that the cell phone is replacing the watch as a time-telling device. Thom Browne

Cigarettes are a vile, dirty habit. Everywhere apparently. And while the British media and their meteorological histrionics never fail to amuse (a two day heatwave is not really a wave, is it?), it is bloody hot. But I do love summer. I hate humidity but sun shining, wind breezing - this can never be a bad thing. So rather than join the lot of whingers, who will later complain that we had no summer when the inevitable downpour ensues, I choose to ignore the stickiness and embrace the things I love about this hot hot heat...

* Gin and tonics with crushed up lime. Taking a sip and bursting a bit of lime pulp on your tongue is never more refreshing.

* Sitting on my balcony when the sun is rising and it's not too hot, reading and basking.

* Enjoying watching our little balcony pot of basil, chives and vines grow. Granted all I did was pick the items to be planted as I tend to kill the bepotted, but it's nice to watch the hard effort of others be bountiful...

*Walking everywhere to go nowhere just because we can.

* Cherries from the local grocer. I could eat cherries and cherries alone all summer long. They ARE summer to me.

* The simplicity of getting dressed in the morning: dress, canvas shoes, sunglasses, done.

*Even though we're all miserable, moaning, sweaty, sticky and generally angry at the world, you can walk through any London park, lose the sound of the city and realize it all ain't so bad. Smile! It's fuckin' summer.

On disappearing

She just finished school and didn't know what to do with herself. I know that the blog has lain quiet before but never for this long and I've always kept up with my Reader. But since I finished exams (at the end of May!) I haven't posted a post or read a blog.

Currently I have 1000+ posts to read. It wasn't particularly purposeful, I just found that I felt no compulsion, no desire to know what was going on. I blame oversaturation perhaps. Seeing the same editorial over and over, seeing the same girl wearing the same thing even though she was a different girl. The internet and the way it has provided for the democratization and globalization of fashion is an interesting thing. Not a bad thing, but sometimes it overwhelms me, especially as an active participant. I get bombarded with images of people and their internet lives and it freaks me out. So I had to step away.

This blog has no purpose. It has no theme, no direction, no particular point of view. Just me and my quite random thoughts and desires. So when I have no thoughts, desire or inspirations it goes quiet. But I think I'll always come back. If anyone happened to stick around, thanks. Sorry for being wishy-washy.

And now to note: this editorial is everything I do love: A timeless simplicity that could similarly yet contrarily be described as a sort of 70s minimalism, all set in a charming haberdashery of a flat. And that is all.

Cat-Eyed Vixen

Baaaaaaaaah. I'm dying a little bit inside with every exam... #3 out of 4 tomorrow, phew. But enough about that. May I present to you my current internet obsessions:

(1) Kinga Burza's photoblog, which I've been following for awhile now. Infrequently updated but inspiring much wanderlust when it is. Her photos of sunny LA are a ray of light in bleak exam times.

(2) Her amazing Graz x Ellery cat-eye sunglasses. They make me so envious, that I am almost glad they are sold out otherwise I might've blown all my birthday money on them. Eep!

And now back to the books, folks. Thanks for stopping by...

A quickie

Exam #2 tomorrow, so this isn't going to be very eloquent. Rather a hurried note to say: Opening Ceremony, your fall collection is wonderful, but your coats are particularly spectacular... somuchso that I am almost okay with coveting a fall collection in the middle of spring (which kind of feels like fall in this weather-schizophrenic country anyway).

See more wonderful clothes, including nubby sweaters, maxi skirts and velvet velvet velvet here.

Haphazard Interiors

While I constantly claim that my student lifestyle relegates my interior design aesthetic to nil, I recently realized that it is more laziness than lifestyle. I don't have a design-point-of-view, rather my apartment is made up of furniture that was already there and Ikea necessities. I didn't think I was much of a nester, but when looking around my flat the other day, I realized I do have an aesthetic: haphazard. Books piled every which way on the bookshelf, a mantle overflowing with candles, pictures, and more books, a desk overrun with jewelry boxes that are over run with jewelry. Haphazard...or maybe just messy, but I kind of like it, which is why I was drawn to the various interiors in these editorials shot by Hugh Stewart . They are all a little scruffy round the edges, the eye darts around at all the visual stimuli, a bit like a Victorian haberdashery, disorganized but lovely just the same.

Photographs by Hugh Stewart found at kris atomic

Handsome? Indubitably.

Every since learning about Australian brand We Are Handsome way back in November, I've been hoping their amazing suits would pop up in a store on this side of the hemisphere. And lo and behold, a few select pieces are currently being sold at Opening Ceremony. I knew that since they were designer, limited edition and made out of Italian Lyrca (apparently. Is that like, as good as Italian wool?) along with having the best retro pop culture prints, they wouldn't come cheap. Oh predictive ability, how I wish you were wrong. At $240 a pop, these puppies will have to remain on the wish list. Which is alright by me, since who knows when I'll make it to a beach this summer anyhow.

Seems I've been complaining a lot lately about the things that I cannot afford but I don't mean to and I'm not actually that bummed about it. In truth, it's fun to fill my imaginary wardrobe with imaginary things, but at the end of the day, even if I had all the money in the world I wouldn't buy everything I covet because there are other things that keep you fulfilled. Like waking up at 6 am to a sun-drenched room, making a cup of French Vanilla coffee that your mother shipped 3,000 miles just for you and reading for pleasure before a long day studying. The moral of the story being, while I'm happy to pine over We Are Handsome bathing suits, and wish that I could have a wild stallion run across my torso, I am perfectly content with what I've got. It's important to remember that when you've got a blog filled with wishes.

This ended up being more of a note to self. Sorry about that.
