There are many references to antioxidants in beauty, but what is an antioxidant? Many people think that an antioxidant is an ingredient. It is not. An antioxidant is a reversing or stopping of free-radical damage. The free radical concept of aging is when atoms have an unpaired electron and free radicals damage cells causing aging. Free radical damage causes deterioration of the skin’s elasticity and structure. Antioxidants help slow down this damage, and many common vitamins such as A, C and E are known antioxidants.

The many Benefits of Vitamin E in Skin Care Products

Vitamins are not a one to one relationship. One vitamin does many good things for the body. Vitamin E is one of the top vitamins in beauty skincare products and one of my favorite vitamins that I look for in my products. It is very well researched and a great antioxidant. The many benefits of vitamin E include anti-aging, it reduces water loss and increases moisture, and helps maintain skin’s oil balance and improve the effectiveness of sunscreen. Vitamin E is great with the treatment of scars, stretch marks, age spots, and sun damage. Look for it in your products under the name of tocipherol and tocitrienols.

I liked what I tried and the fact that the products are natural makes me like them even more. I didn’t realize how natural they were until after I used them. Then I was very happy since the more natural, the better! I want to make this next year the year I really start eating more raw foods, taking my vitamins and using natural skin care as much as I possibly can!

Winter Woes- Tips for winterizing your skin.

The winter weather can be harsh on your skin, that’s why keeping it moisturized is so important! Before you run and grab the body butter, first try drinking more water. Only so much moisture can be absorbed from outside application,try hydrating your body from the inside This will help return that healthy glow you’ve been missing. Body lotions are great and when selecting a body lotion, be sure that vitamin e is present. Vitamin E is one of natures miracles. Not only is it an antioxidant, it also provides your skin with enough moisture without leaving it feeling greasy. I would suggest starting with a lightweight lotion at first, it will make pulling on your clothes less of a hassle. If you find that your skin is still craving more, then you can bump it up a notch! Body butter or products containing shea butter are a moisture rich and super luxorious option. Applying lotion is a great first step, but for the best results, try exfoliating! Using a body polish will remove the scales and flakes, while prepping the skin to receive your lotion. I have found that the steam from the shower makes the exfoliation process much easier. Also, try applying lotion right after you have showered. It will help your skin seal in that moisturizing H2O.

Rouge lashes

People are always asking me, “How do I get my lashes to curl?” There are a few different techniques that I use, and thought I would share

Eyelash Curler Method
The trick to curling your eyelashes with an eyelash curler is to walk the curler up the lashes. Place the eyelash curler at the base of the upper, clean unmascara’ed lashes, squeeze gently, hold for a few seconds and release. Do not pull or remove the eyelash curler. You will want to repeat this motion as you move further out towards the end of the lashes. This makes a nice curve without dents on the lashes. As a makeup artist, I always use the eyelash curler method because it saves time, but inevitably there is always a rogue lash that stands straight out and then I use my spoon. Yes, a regular spoon from the kitchen drawer that I carry in my kit. I then go after the rogue lash and curl it like a ribbon.

Spoon Method
Get an ordinary metal spoon and hold the top of the spoon horizontally. Your thumb should be placed at the bottom rim and your fingers on the back of the curve. (See picture) Place the lashes between your thumb at the bottom and the rim of the spoon at the top. Now gently sweep the spoon over the thumb to curl the lashes. It is a similar effect to curling ribbon and the more you sweep the more it curls.
