Art has many forms. Though in the mainstream, its more widely recognized in the form of movies, real art is different. For me real art is creativity that strives to bring about a change however small or big is out of question. There are many people and communities across that live and breathe art but sadly art does not bring in the required money for most so it stays as a passion instead of becoming their way of living life. While watching the recently popular music show on MTV, “Sound Trippin”, I was surprised at being introduced with people for whom music is biggest gift in their life. Where cultures and communities are defined and united by the art.

Art, whatsoever may be the kind, has the power to bring about major social change. There are very few people who are brave enough to use art to bring about awareness and change, sometimes even spark a revolution. While you as an individual might not be among those very few, you can definitely be a part of the process and help drive the change. Promoting and spreading the art project is one way but that comes at a very later stage. To make someone be able to continue with work of art striving to bring about a social changes, one needs money and that is something you can help with by contributing from your end.

OrangeStreet.in is such a platform which enables artists to share details of their projects and have people fund them. According to the website, OrangeStreet.in is a fundraising platform for socially engaged arts projects.
This platform would helps raise funding for creative socially engaged projects in Art, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film, Architecture, Games, Music, Photography, Publishing, Technology, and Drama.

Though platforms like KickStarter have become quite a rage in US and enabled people to fund various kinds of project, it wouldn’t be right for us to compare it with OrangeStreet. For one, the platform is currently based out of India where people are not very open to contributing to art in this manner and also the projects on OS are more socially aware and believe in bringing about change or spreading awareness. While on the other hand one can have even a pen-manufacturing unit funded on KickStarter.

So coming back to the platform, if you have a project in mind and would like to get funded on OS, its pretty direct. Fill up an online application form and if the team likes your idea they will put it up. They will also spread the word among their donor community to get people contribute towards your projects. While on the other hand, if you donate towards a project, not only are you helping the artists do something socially relevant but can also avail tax benefits towards it. And if you cannot donate, you can definitely promote the projects you like among your friends on social networking sites.

I came across the site while browsing through a friend’s project called Uramili (Song of Our People) which is about a musical journey across various parts of India. How to set up Google Apps in simple steps – Tutorial

Anyone who has ever seriously considered transferring their email application from its current provider to Google Appsfor web hosting but has been put off by the apparent complexity, need have no fear. It’s a process that takes only about 30 minutes and usually creates no difficulties. The change to Google Apps is becoming increasingly popular, especially with groups and distributed businesses that do not want to have their email and collaboration centred around the desktop software shipped with MS Windows. Google is naturally more than happy to help and has made the process very simple.

Google Apps is free for private and family users but comes with a small charge for businesses. The ‘standard’ edition is best for the average private user.

The first step is to complete the online application form on the Google website. Enter your domain name first of all, or alternatively buy a new one through Google and let Google complete the whole set-up process for you. If providing the domain yourself you’ll need to verify that you are the owner.

Click the ‘get started’ button and fill out the standard application form that will then pop up. If Google is happy with the information you’ve provided and allows you to set up a new domain, or transfer an existing one to Google Apps, you will then be taken to a new screen.

The first thing to do on that screen is to activate your email. Google will offer you a URL and you’ll say whether you’re happy with it or not. It can easily be changed to one of your choice if you don’t like it.

Email is activated by going to the settings page for emails and completing the ‘change MX records’ and ‘create user accounts’ options.

With ‘create user accounts’ you can either enter all the information about your various email addresses manually or upload an already completed Excel CSV file with the information contained in it.

With ‘Change MX records’ you need to transfer whichever company or companies handle your emails at present to Google, so that they can be delivered to your Apps account. There are clear step-by-step instructions on the Google site for doing this. Information and instructions are tailored to the name of the old provider and you simply choose options from a drop-down list of providers to get started. It essentially consists of deleting all the hosting account’s MX records and replacing them with Google Apps records.

The last thing to do is simply hit the ‘save’ button and the process is complete. The incoming emails may be slightly slow until the new Google Apps account has been fully processed and the MX records properly transferred, when they will become a lot faster.

Optionally, you could also think about things such as changing your calendar’s destination links, and those for Sites, Talk app and Documents, in the same way that you changed your email inbox URL. Each of these services can be activated in the settings option.

Earthquake in Bangalore, Karnataka – Did you feel it?

Just a few minutes back, tremors have been experienced across different parts of Bangalore and other areas in Karnataka. But these earthquakes are not limited to karnataka or even India.

The earthquake was of the magnitude of 8.7 and originated from a point in Indian Ocean closer to Indonesia. An alert for Tsunami has been initiated in Indonesia. The 2004 tsunami was due to an earthquake of 9.1 magnitude. Just to be clear, alert for tsunami does not mean that a tsunami is in progress but the earthquake’s magnitude has the potential to cause one.

Google Play Launched – Download Music, Books, Apps and Movies

Well, Google has finally launched an all-inclusive online store – Google Play – which will not just have the various apps for android phones but will also have movies, music and books. A user can purchase content from the store and have everything stored on the cloud to ensure that you will have never have to sync and will have the content available anytime on any device. There are several small but nifty features like a Share Listen option which will let you invite 1 of your friends to listen to a song for free. There are various other cool ways of sharing your purchases on say Google +. Here is a full list of Google Play’s features.

Though it tool Google quite a lot of time since it envisioned a cloud based book store couple of years back, but still its a good start. Go ahead and Play! The complete store will still take some time to get available though.

Since the launch of the Nokia Lumia range of Windows Mango Phones in India, windows mobile have caught people’s fancy. And why shouldn’t they? After all windows does come across as a great OS is the making and we Indians are always looking out for new. The windows 7 OS has been been quite a sensation since its launch.

It will still take some time for Windows 7 to be available in cheaper variants but there are quite a few options available now though now too pocket-friendly. But that does not mean that you should be waiting for either prices to drop or for cheaper options to be available. The time is ripe to get your hands over one.

Following are the 4 Latest Windows 7 Phones available in India, all sporting the 7.5 Mango OS:

Samsung Omnia w i8350

1. Samsung Omnia W I8350 – Samsung Omnia is the cheapest windows phone available in the Indian market at the time of writing this post. But it is no way a weak competitor. With an SuperAMOLED screen and sleek looks, its quite a winner at the performance aspect as well. The design of the phone is quite aesthetic and eye-catching. With a talk time of upto 14hrs, it supports GPRS, EDGE, 3G and Wi-fi internet connectivity. The phone also come loaded with an accelerometer, gyro scope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and a digital compass. It has a 8GB internal memory.

Nokia Lumia 710

2. Nokia Lumia 710 – Nokia Lumia 710 is one of the 2 current releases from Nokia. This is the result of the Nokia-Microsoft collaboration and frankly fails to impress compared to Omnia but sure does have its own charm and will be preferable for Nokia followers who are looking for a cheaper windows phone from the cellular giant. It has a 1.4ghz Qualcomm Scorpion Processor with a capacitive touchscreen. 710 also supports all means of internet connectivity. Its sports a 5MP camera with 4x digital zoom 3x video zoom. Comes loaded with Nokia drive and Nokia Music.

HTC Radar

3. HTC Radar – The only offering from HTC in the Windows Phone market in India needs serious upgrades to stand shoulder to shoulder with its competitors. The device is far more expensive than Omnia and 710 but still has only a 1ghz processor and 5MP camera. Though radar does lets its users to records HD quality videos and has LED flash. But other than that there is anything that meets the eye. Screen size is 3.8-inch compared to 3.7-inch for others.

Nokia Lumia 800

4. Nokia Lumia 800 – Lumia 800 is the windows phones that caused waves in the Indian mobile market with its stunning yet pleasing sleek look and string colors. The phone sports a SuperAMOLED screen and a powerful 8MP camera. Nokia clear black technology has been infused thus enhancing the display further. Lumia 800 is an ergonomically crafted phone which is easy to use and sits well in your hands. The camera supports 720p HD video recording and is equipped with a dual-LED flash. It comes loaded with Bing Maps, IE9 for seamless browsing, ActiveSync Integration and Nokia Drive among many others. If you have the money to pay the this is the Windows Phone you should go for.

Windows still has a long way to go before it get mass-adopted. For that to happen, cheaper options will be required to be launched along with an active app store.
