FASHION FOCUS: NEON PARTY
According to Glamour magazine, "neon is having a major moment right now" and I couldn't agree more. Yes, it's a little bit obnoxious especially when you're strutting in these florescent bad boys , but the great thing about this incredibly bright trend is that 99.9% of the time, you will turn heads. Whether it'd be in a good way, or bad...it's completely up to you to just not care.
Anyway, in this outfit, I decided to be somewhat monochromatic, hence the top and my skirt. However, I did want a huge blinding pop of color, so I decided to test drive my new pair of neon heels. This then, brings the eyes straight up and down, so if you end up wearing something similar to this outfit, you will definitely get a lot of those types of stares. Nonetheless, I must say that I am really loving this whole neon "in yo face" trend, just because it reminds me so much of the 80's :) after all, I am an 80's child.

My Opinion Counter: Circle lenses

Circle lenses have been made popular throughout Asian countries, but these lenses actually originated from South Korea. This then started that whole “Ulzzang” or doll-like frenzy all around Asia. However, its popularity has now sky rocketed and has now spread through different parts of the world including the United States.

Now, you might ask, “what is/are circle lenses?” and “are they the same as regular contact lenses?” Well, for starters, circle lenses are practically the same as regular colored contact lenses aside from the fact that they give the illusion of a much bigger iris. Most of these lenses have a thick outer rim to them, while some do not. However, these lenses do vary in sizes depending on how enlarged you want your iris to appear. These lenses vary from a 14.0mm which is the smallest, to as big as 16.0mm. This is another reason why they are called “circle lens” instead of just the regular term, contact lens.

Circle lenses also comes in a huge variety of styles, and colors. From the natural looking lenses that will give you just the right amount of enlargement and a slight boost in color, to the very extreme unrealistic looking lenses that looks almost costume-like.

Another thing that you might need to know about these lenses is that, since they are a little bit thicker than the usual contact lenses that your optometrist prescribes, the time that you wear them will also differ. As the circle lens are a little thicker, your eyes will need more oxygen to breath, hence less time to wear these particular lenses. Usually, a minimum of 5-6 hours of wear, but for some lenses, they are so comfortable that they could be worn for much longer.

I, personally have been wearing circle lenses with prescription for the past 2 or 3 years now and I have not gone blind whatsoever. So, although, the United States’ FDA has not actually approved these lenses, it is up to you to proceed with caution in regards to trying them, especially if it’s your first time.

DESIGN ON DISPLAY is a one-day exhibition of FASHION AND INTERIORS design and merchandising - see some amazing design work produced by students of the Fashion and Interior Design Programs at San Joaquin Delta College. This annual exhibit presents an array of emerging and budding designers in fashion and interior design...all from our local community!

On exhibit will be fashion designs created by student in the sewing and patternmaking classes; projects from Trend Forecasting, Fashion Retailing and Fashion Marketing; Fashion Illustration work and textile design projects, as well as projects from both the residential and commercial interior design classes.

Hands-on demonstrations will include weaving on hand looms and a demonstration of the Chief Architect computer program, which is used by students in the Interior Design Program and on many design shows like those on DIY and HGTV.

Garments from the Eco Challenge shown on Earth Day will also be on display. This was a competition where students designed and contructed garments using recycled materials only.

The exhibit is FREE to the public and will be open from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Friday, May 4th in Danner Hall on the Delta College campus.

FASHION FOCUS: HIGH-LOW HEM
Dresses, particularly maxi dresses with a high-low hem are a huge hit this season as well as previous seasons because of its versatility. This dress that I'm wearing from LOVE is made of a very light chiffon-like fabric that makes it weather appropriate at the same time you could either dress it up or down depending on your mood or occasion. --From being beach chic to a nice sophisticated girls night out in the city chic. Either way, this dress will turn a few heads..like the saying, "business in the front, party in the back"...just the other way around for this one.
So, in this outfit, I decided to go for a semi-casual / semi- glamorous look. I tried making the outfit less outlandish by throwing on a long thin cardigan with subtle neon accents to take away some of the "formal" feel to the look. I also paired some nice black booties with cheetah prints on the heel to make the look more fun and casual. Then I decided to wear some sheer black nylons just to kind of create an illusion of longer legs. As far as accessories goes, since I'm going for a less formal look, I opt for longer and layered necklaces rather than a choker or extremely bold statement pieces for the neck area. By doing so, it also gives the illusion of a much longer upper body because it automatically draws the eyes attention vertically as opposed to horizontally.

FASHION HIGHLIGHT: AN INVESTMENT PIECE
To start off, I admit that I am indeed a very frugal person. However, as we grow older we realize that fashion is not only about the bargain items that always turn out to be the "disposable" kind, but also about the investment pieces that takes time....well, to purchase. So, what would be considered an "investment piece," you might ask? well, stuff like premium denim...something that could be used and worn forever (unless you lose or gain weight...well, now that's another topic that we can save for another post) Another things also include designer brand items whether it'd be a handbag or footwear or even that really expensive little black dress that you never seem to find an occasion to wear but dying to do so anyway. But with kidding aside, I think investment pieces are these material items that we could seriously use over and over again. Needless of time, the "piece" will stay in good condition and then you'll be able to say that it was definitely worth the investment.

FASHION FOCUS: POP OF NEON
With all this pastel trending this season, we forget sometimes that neon colors are definitely coming back from the 80's. Now, this "trend" might be a little over the top for some people but having little neon accents never hurt anyone. In fact, little pops of neon in a person's outfit makes one appear more fun and a bit more daring than usual. As you could all see, my outfit already consists of too many colors, however, I decided to add my Yellow bolo cord bracelet that I got from Ettika to add a brighter and bolder accent to my outfit. This pop of neon, then becomes the statement piece to my look regardless of all the color craze that's already happening. Now regardless of whether this whole neon trend is for your or not, you should definitely give it a try because you don't necessarily need to get caught in a full neon gear, little pops of neon is all you need.

FASHION FOCUS: CAPES
Capes have been an ideal choice for outerwear this past F/W season as well as the year before. However, it should also be an essential part of your wardrobe for this winter- spring transitional weather as this time of year, the weather is more unpredictable than usual. Gusty winds, extremely cold mornings and warmer afternoons and who can forget, rain on a sunny day? Now, if that doesn't get on you on your toes, I sure a heck don't know what will.
These capes are very easy to put on and take off, making them the perfect outerwear for this unpredictable transitional weather.
Now, in this outfit, I decided to wear my Gossip Girl Fur Cloak (minus the faux fur collar that it came with it, obviously, it would be too hot if I wore it) that I received from Sheinside. I then decided to pair a rose colored button up top with a pair of forest green skinnies to add subtle pops of color without over doing or over powering each of the garment pieces. This Master Control dress from Black Pyramid is absolutely amazing. I love the iridescent quality of the fabric as it makes the garment change colors depending on lighting. In my case, the flash photography made the dress appear more of a metallic cobalt blue with a ton of sheen.
This dress features a wide neckline which emphasizes the woman's collar bone as well as gathered sleeves with a subtle poof. In this dress you would also notice the pleats on the bottom half, triangular mesh accents on the bodice, and a deep v-cut on the back side.

FASHION FOCUS: GOLD ACCENTS
Today's outfit is a little more simpler than my other usual outfits that I put together. In this look, I put on together a solid ivory button up underneath a salmon sleeveless button up blouse and layered the two for a bit of contrast in the color department. I then added some gold accessories like my gold metal choker that I've been loving lately as well as my fabulous thrifted gold belt to singe the waist. Now, when it comes to minimalist looks, I find it best to accessorize with huge statement pieces that will bring more life and extra oomph to your outfit. In my case, to add some color and texture, I decided to go with gold accents that will not only bring in more light to my outfit but also make it more sophisticated and put together. I also included a bright yellow brief case-like satchel as an extra pop of color to make the look more fun and casual at the same time.

FASHION FOCUS: MINT CRAZE
Yes, I know it's a little late for this post, but better late than never right? Well, as we all know this season, is entirely and utterly dedicated to one specific color, which is none other than mint. The color basically speaks for this season, which is fresh, light and fun, all of which one color could describe. This whole mint craze has taken all of us by storm, because I could honestly say that every fashion site I go to has mint outfit postings everywhere and I just love this particular color trend. In this look, I decided to pair my snazzy mint jazzy high waist leggings with a simple understated button up top and a loud, almost obnoxious pair of peach striped canvas platforms that are overly loud and obnoxious, just the way I like my kicks to be. Given this "simple" look, I decided to go crazy overload with arm and finger candy, as expected.

Overall, I love this look, not only for it's random highlights of color but also the sudden change of texture with the shoes. I most especially appreciate the comfort of both leggings and shoes. FASHION FOCUS: PATENT LEATHER BOOTS
This season, we see a lot of these past trends brought back to life. For instance, patent leather boots were made popular back in the early 90's by British footwear, Dr. Martens. These days, we see them in every possible shape, form and color. Although, mine aren't necessarily the original brand, they give me the sense of childhood just by wearing them, as I have also worn the brand when I was a child. Aside from the comfort factor that these shoes give you, I also appreciate the fact that it gives your look somewhat of a more casual and laid back feel to it. Also, depending on how you style it, it can also be dressed up as you can see on my outfit right here. I paired this white patent leather boots w/ hot pink lace and sole accents with a floral skirt and some distressed denim button up shirt and of course by accessorizing it, it completes and polishes up the whole look.

FASHION FOCUS: THE NEW LOOK
If you ladies are not too familiar with "The New Look", here's the 411 about it. A Parisian designer by the name of Christian Dior first launched his Spring-Summer collection on 1947 which included a much different approach to fashion after the WWII. His collection included dresses with very extravagant fabrics that hit about mid-calf in length with a prominent bust, giving the whole look an hour glass silhouette. "The New Look" became revolutionary and it marked the history of fashion in the early 50's.
In this look, I'm wearing a dress that somewhat mimics Dior's New Look. This Garden Isle dress hits about mid-calf that features lots of pleats making the bottom half of the dress fuller and by singeing the waist with a belt, it gives an illusion of a smaller waist, hence the hour glass figure that Dior's New Look is well known for. I then added a wide brim sun hat to lighten up the look and add a bit of a Spring feel to the outfit.

Metal chokers are a huge hit this season as it was last fall 2011. Aside from the whole chunky statement piece trend last fall, metal chokers have been seen on various runways and are still here to stay. With this piece, I wanted to give off a fun, laid back and somewhat androgynous feel to it so I paired the choker with a nice button up underneath a bright blue polka dot top to add a bit of contrast on colors. I also decided to layer on a thick cardigan with metallic threads for some shine, giving the whole look a more easy going feel to it. I then opt for a lighter wash denim to lighten up the entire outfit making it look a little "fresh" and fun and not too serious. And as always, black platforms for height and comfort along with a mix and mash of various arm and hand accessories and of course, my classic half-tint round frames which adds a bit of "vintage" feel to my already laid back- androgynous ensemble.

FASHION FOCUS: COLOR BLOCKING
Color blocking is not a stranger to us all, as it has been a trend that's been going on for quite a while now. Though many have rocked the colorful trend, it was really Yves Saint Laurent that popularized the whole look through his Mondrian dress which was inspired and named after a Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian.Color blocking combines two or more colors in one ensemble, whether it would be complimentary, monochromatic, bright, muted or contrasting colors.
In this outfit, I paired a bright cobalt blue skinny jean with a muted seafoam green knit pullover on top of a coral button up and accessorizing it with a simple vintage gold choker w/ a sapphire gem as an accent. I then paired this ensemble with some lace up combat boots and finishing it off with a few gold arm accessories. Can I say, arm candy? Anyway, if this look, more so the trend doesn't catch your attention enough, I sure as heck don't know what will.

The weather has been a bit odd lately, last week it was sunny with blue skies and today, it was dark, gloomy and freeeeezing! I have no idea what's going on with California lately, but the weather has been off. FASHION FOCUS: POLKA DOTS

This spring, it's all the polka dots, and the bigger the better. It's all about making a statement in a semi-subtle way. Prints are a good way to make a boring outfit pop a little more. Also, if you're not daring enough to layer prints over prints, you can also pair them with either a loud solid color or a muted neutral substitute. In this outfit, I paired my polka dot button up with a bright orange high waist trousers, red pumps and a bright yellow satchel. Regardless whether the colors are complimentary or not, these colors will still go together because color blocking is a huge thing this spring.

I say, don't be afraid on trying new styles or things that you originally won't even bother trying because fashion is all about breaking and bending rules and making things your own. Regardless whether you dress up to make a statement or not, I think fashion is something that shouldn't be taken seriously. Fashion is about having fun and realizing the endless possibilities to express your own individuality.

As we all know, spring is coming up very quickly, hence the beautiful flowers blooming. In this outfit, I wore a shocking hot pink v-neck knit sweater paired with a pale blue button up shirt to have some kind of contrast. I also wore my LYLIF piercing points necklace along with a vintage leather belt adorned with a gold buckle.

I also made sure that I folded the cuff of my shirt onto my sweater to add a little contrast of color in my wardrobe. I then finished off the look with some dark wash skinny jeans, some brown laced up combat boots and my new half-tint round frames that were Chanel-inspired.

In this photo, you can see not only beautiful flowers but a nice combination of bold spring colors because although we think that spring is just all about the pastels and pale hues, it really isn’t. This spring of 2012, we will definitely see a lot of bold, bright and neon colors whether it would be on the runways or on the streets.

I say, whether you love color or not, this spring, you should definitely try to opt your pastels with something brighter and bolder.

A Very Fashionable Weekend

This past weekend was probably one of the craziest, busiest but most fun weekends I've ever had this year. Starting on Friday, with Sacramento's Fashion Week then there was Saturday night's Project San Francisco: Love+Rock & Roll and ending the weekend with Sunday's A Soolip Wedding. It was crazy but at the same time, it was such a wonderful opportunity that I am so glad I didn't miss out on regardless of the quality of some of the shows, I still thoroughly enjoyed myself and it was a very rewarding and such a learning experience which doesn't come by often.

Here are some pictures of the shows, starting with my Sac Fashion Week outfit. I decided to go with bold primary colors in combination with some floral patterns and silver accessories.

SAC FASHION WEEK -- I attended the Friday night show because I was going to be in San Francisco that weekend for other fashion shows which I watched and helped with.

My friend and I were seated on the 5th row behind the press and sponsors. Not a bad spot but there were quite a few "drunk" people towards the 2nd half of the show which was a bit irritating considering that it was a "formal" event.

CAREN TEMPLET
British designer, based in Sacramento. Her collection was called "White on Ice" where she created crisp and clean pieces that speaks for itself and not for its loud or bold colors. Caren also wanted to show a collection that will highlight the other designers in the show. The collection had a mix of old Hollywood glam and a bit of middle eastern feel with the very stylish turbans. Everything was simple yet very elegant and sophisticated.

DEE AGUILAR
This particular designers collection had a lot of bold prints and colors. Lots of color blocking was used and it almost made me think of something tropical or exotic when I look at Dee Aguilar's collection.

MICHAEL LOPEZ
This designers collection had a lot of shoulder cut outs, low backs and crop tops, as well as funky faux collar necklaces using floral pattern accents. A lot of asymmetrical tops were also seen in Michael Lopez's Sac Fashion Week collection.

CASSIE SUE
Her pieces had a lot of earthy - neutral tones along with tiered skirts and bold lips. Very minimalistic when it comes to accessories and there were also cut outs, and geometric - floral patterns involved.

JANELLE CARDENAS
This designer's collection had a mod vibe to it which I love just because I love the 60's and her collection somewhat reminded me of Twiggy for some reason, maybe it's the waify models? Anyway, her designs include low back, cut outs, princess seams, pleats and subtle 60's prints.

JOYCELYNN BROWN
This designer's collection had a lot of baby blue and mustard tones in it. She also incorporated huge flower accents on each garment which I didn't quite appreciate as much. Her collection basically screams Alice in Wonderland to me for some odd reason? maybe it's because of colors or maybe it's also because of the femininity of each piece.

ZUBAUEN BY AMANDA CHAN
This particular designer, I must say has the most unique collection in my opinion, mainly because her focal point wasn't really the garment, but her art. Although, I do love and appreciate art and have the utmost respect for artists like Amanda Chan, I just feel like her collection did not fit Sac Fashion Week. Her "collection" in my opinion should have been showcased elsewhere like in a museum or another place that has people who truly understand and appreciate the kind of art that she does so great.

PROJECT SF: LOVE+ROCK&ROLL -- I didn't take as much photos in this event for the reason that there was a mega spot light that followed each model, which then obstructed my photography. Anyway, this event was so much more casual than the SacFW & if I might add, probably even more unorganized and extremely "laid back" which could be both good and bad at the same time. However, my friends and I got 2nd row seats with a good view and a couple extra goodie bags. But, even with a good view and goodie bags, it still didn't change the fact that the quality of the garments put in this show were absolutely unforgiving. I just did not see any consistency or cohesiveness with each designers collection. It was just very disappointing, which made my friends and I decide to leave before the show was over. I'm just hoping that next time they will select better designers to show their collections. (I know it's a little harsh, but the fashion industry itself IS harsh)

FASHION FOCUS: STUDDED LOAFERS
Studded or spiked anything has been in the fashion limelight from quite some time now and I must say, they're definitely here to stay. They not only add a bit of a "bad ass" feel to the look but when mixed with something unusual, it gives the look more of a city chic vibe without trying too much. From Louboutin, to Sam Edelman to Jeffrey Campbell and many more designers who have tried to join the spiked/ studded band wagon. Often times, you see these studded or spiked pieces on the most unusual things that you never thought would actually look great with spikes or studs. Daily necessity pieces such as your heels, flats and even purses are all decked out with these "semi- dangerous" objects that most people would ask "Don't you need a license for those?" Nonetheless, this stud-spike overload craze has gone far and beyond. Whether it'd be for the best or for the worse, it's your call but if you were to ask me, I would say, that this current trend or "fad" (as some of you would say) is something that a few people should try just to spice their lives up & live on the edge a little.

These are my first ever loafers and as my first, I definitely put my standards way up. I love the fact that these loafers are sooo wild, it drives me crazy. I love the studs and snake skin combo. I mean, what better way to turn a few heads around other than these nice kicks? The sole and upper are both made from leather which would probably take a couple of wear time to break these babies in. But, need not worry because they are as comfy as any flats you have in your closet and as durable as your working shoes. These loafers can be worn with just about anything, it could be dressed down or up depending on the occasion. In my case, I decided to go with a preppy-vintage-comfy look in which I paired my studded snake skin loafers with a dark wash skinny jean along with a chunky knit jumper. I then added my DIY pearl and bead embellished faux collar necklace as my statement piece. By doing so, I created an illusion of having an under layer shirt and I mean, who needs chunky jewelry, when you have a very sophisticated and unique piece on your neck which is none other than just a DIY collar?

FASHION FOCUS: POINTED STATEMENT NECKLACE
There's nothing understated about this piece right here as it definitely does speak for itself. I love the color combination of this necklace although it does come in black/gold as well as orange/ gold. With this piece, I decided to pair it with a nice sheer button up collared top to make it stand out more. The less pattern and texture you have, the better that way it doesn't clash with one another and you can show off this gorgeous necklace a bit more. With a muted top, I decided to go for a bold print skirt to break up all the solids & black. Now, in this entire outfit, I was able to make not only my necklace stand out but also my obvious bold print body con skirt. Lastly, I threw on a forest green vintage faux suede blazer to add more texture to the entire outfit. Overall, this Piercing Points Statement Necklace is a win for me. Not only is it made with good quality materials, it is also definitely budget friendly, especially for people like me who want multipurpose pieces that can be chic and eclectic at the same time.
