Roles and responsibilities:

Qualifications/Experience

No qualifications or experience is required, although assembly and production experience would be welcome. Organisation Mission: To provide encouragement, advice and financial support for challenging expeditions planned and undertaken by our Volunteer Reserve and Cadet Forces.

Background: The Ulysses Trust was established in 1992. Since then, it has provided over £3,500,000 of support to more than 40,000 Cadets and Reservists enabling them to take part in nearly 3000 expeditions. Its annual turnover is now around £300,000 pa, with plans to double its capacity to support young cadets over the next few years. The Trust has limited endowment funds and largely depends on regular donations to sustain its operations. On-going fundraising for funds to support Cadets is therefore a major aspect of the Trust’s operations. Main Purpose of Job.

The principal role of this appointment is to provide support to the local Regional Director (RD). The Contingent Commander, working alongside the SSI, is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective running of the CFF Contingent, including leadership and development of the CCF, ensuring that each pupil is positively encouraged to develop their potential to the full. The core purpose of this post is to manage and develop the school’s CCF, assist with the running and organisation of the contingent and to participate fully in CCF activities.

Team Leader/SME

We urgently seek a former direct entry Captain (RM, inf or armd) as a Team Leader/SME Analyst to support a sub-contractor mandated to provide subject matter expertise (through the prime) to the MOD for the deployment and use of DFWES on exercises and training both in the UK and overseas. Any incumbent must have recent operational and training experience and will not have left the Services more than 2 years ago.

During planning stages, the incumbent will advise commanders on training equipment capabilities and thereafter seek to optimise value and outcomes during training cycles. Additionally, the incumbent will produce After Action Reports (AAR) for exercise commanders. To be a credible addition to the talent pool, you must have an understanding of DCC and combined arms tactics to CT4. You must also hold a UK driving licence.

Essentially, the role will be UK-based with the requirement to deploy overseas for short duration support to exercises; the longest period of which is expected to be no more than 5 weeks. This initial one-year contract is designed to make full use of the operational currency of those in the talent pool and at the same time provide an exciting and rewarding challenge in the commercial world. The option to turn this into a more long-term opportunity exists.

Field Technician (IT)

We seek a Field Technician to work with a small team supporting a defence sector prime with its Deployable Weapons Fire Support (DFWES) contract with the UK MOD.

The position will involve:

• The provision of a range of communications support to the client during exercises and training.

• DFWES is held at Westdown Camp on Salisbury Plain where some time will be spent on the maintenance of the systems/equipment.

• Exercises are mainly held in the UK but there will be some deployments overseas. Duration of the deployments is generally in the range of 5 days - 5 weeks.

• Travel to and from the deployments and accommodation will either be provided or covered under expenses. Medical insurance for deployments overseas is provided.

• The main aim of the role is to ensure that the client can continue to field a reliable system enabling them to provide the key detailed After Action Reports (AAR) to assist the UK Forces in their validation process for the exercising troops.

• The successful candidate will be contracted for 150 days per year with the possibility of additional days. It will at times involve working in difficult environments based alongside the exercising troops.

• The contract is renewable every 12 months.

• The work requires individuals who are flexible in their availability and forward leaning in their work ethic.

• Familiarisation and maintenance of communications plans.

• Establish the communications network with the assistance of the field team (including erecting and aligning masts, microwave links, DAN antennae, PTZ cameras and GPS etc).
