पीओ परीक्षा : ऑनलाइन परीक्षा पद्धति हेतु ‘क्या करें’ और ‘क्या न करें’

भारतीय स्टेट बैंक परिवीक्षा अधिकारियों (पीओ) के पदों पर नियुक्ति के लिए लिखित परीक्षा का आयोजन करेगा. जागरणजोश अभ्यर्थियों को ऑनलाइन पैटर्न में क्या करें और क्या न करें के लिए सुझाव प्रस्तुत कर रहा है, जो उन्हें समय के अपव्यय से बचने एवं उपलब्ध कराई गईं समय सीमा के भीतर प्रश्न पत्र समाप्त करने में सहायक होगा.
1.   उम्मीदवार के सामने एक लॉगिन स्क्रीन प्रदर्शित होगी. उम्मीदवार को परीक्षा हॉल में प्रदान किये गए उसकी/उसके यूजर आईडी और पासवर्ड का उपयोग करके लॉग इन करना हैं.
2.   लॉगिन करने के पश्चात् उम्मीदवार की प्रोफ़ाइल (नाम, रोल नंबर और फोटोग्राफ आदि) प्रदर्शित होगी और उम्मीदवार को इसकी पुष्टि “आई कन्फर्म” बटन को दबाकर प्रोफ़ाइल की पुष्टि करते हुए करनी हैं.

3.   इसके बाद स्क्रीन पर निर्देश प्रदर्शित किया जाएगा.
4.   उम्मीदवार को निर्देश ध्यान से पढने चाहिए और स्क्रीन के नीचे स्थित बॉक्स को ‘चेक’ (क्लिक करकें) करके ऐसा करने का संकेत देना चाहिए, इसके बाद 'मैं शुरू करने के लिए तैयार हूं' बटन सक्रिय हो जायेगा.
5.   'मैं शुरू करने के लिए तैयार हूं' बटन पर क्लिक करने के बाद परीक्षा का वास्तविक समय शुरू हो जाएगा.
6.   परीक्षा में 200 प्रश्न होंगे तथा और प्रत्येक प्रश्न के लिए 5 विकल्प दिए जायेंगें.
7.   परीक्षा के लिए कुल पूर्णांक 200 हैं.
8.   अंग्रेजी भाषा के प्रश्नों को छोड़कर प्रश्न हिंदी और अंग्रेजी में उपलब्ध होंगें. किसी प्रश्न को अन्य भाषा में देखने के लिए उम्मीदवार ड्रॉप डाउन बॉक्स ‘व्यू इन’ पर क्लिक करके इच्छित भाषा का चयन कर सकते हैं.
9.   एक बार में केवल एक ही सवाल प्रदर्शित किया जाएगा.
10.   एक प्रश्न का उत्तर देने के लिए, उम्मीदवार जिसको वह उचित विकल्प समझता / समझती पर 'माउस क्लिक' करना होगा. विकल्प जिस पर क्लिक किया गया हैं वह हाइलाइट हो जायेगा और और प्रश्न के लिए उम्मीदवार द्वारा दिए गए जवाब के रूप में माना जाएगा.
11.   एक प्रश्न का उत्तर चुनने के बाद उम्मीदवार को अपने जवाब को सहेजने के लिए ‘सेव एंड नेक्स्ट' बटन पर क्लिक करना चाहिए और अगले प्रश्न की और बढ़ना चाहिए. ध्यान दें कि ‘सेव एंड नेक्स्ट' बटन पर क्लिक करे बिना किसी प्रश्न के लिए दिया गया उत्तर सहेजा नहीं जायेगा.
12.   किसी मामले में जबकि उम्मीदवार किसी प्रश्न को हल करने का प्रयास नहीं करता हैं तो उसे दिए गए प्रश्न के किसी भी विकल्प का चयन नहीं करना चाहिए. उम्मीदवार किसी विशेष प्रश्न के लिए उसकी / उसके उत्तर को ‘क्लियर रिस्पांस’ बटन जो की प्रत्येक प्रश्न के सामने दिया होता हैं पर क्लिक करके अचयनित कर सकता हैं.
13.   किसी मामले में जबकि उम्मीदवार किसी विशेष प्रश्न को छोड़ना चाहता हैं एवं प्रश्न पत्र जमा करने से पहले इस पर वापस आना चाहता हैं या एक उम्मीदवार एक विशेष प्रश्न के लिए एक उत्तर (चयन) को 'क्लिक' करता हैं लेकिन बाद में इसकी समीक्षा करने की इच्छा रखता हैं तो वह प्रदान की पत्रक पर प्रश्न संख्या को लिख सकते हैं. हल किये गए एवं नहीं हल किये गए प्रश्नों की संख्या स्क्रीन के दाईं ओर दिखाई जाती हैं.
14.   कोई उम्मीदवार किसी प्रश्न को करने के लिए या उसके जवाब में संशोधन करने के क्रम में प्रश्न देखने के लिए प्रश्न संख्या से किसी पर क्लिक कर सकते हैं.
15.   प्रत्येक प्रश्न संख्या प्रश्न की स्थिति के आधार पर एक विशेष रंग में प्रदर्शित किया जाएगा:
सफेद:देखा नहीं गया: प्रश्न को देखा नहीं गया/ प्रयत्न नहीं किया गया
लाल: उत्तर नहीं दिया गया: प्रश्न को देखा गया लेकिन उत्तर नहीं दिया गया
हरा: उत्तर दिया गया: प्रश्न का उत्तर दिया गया
बैंगनी: चिह्नित: प्रश्न बाद में समीक्षा के लिए चिह्नित किया गया
16.   उम्मीदवारों संपूर्ण परीक्षा समय से पहले अर्थात् 120 मिनट पूरे होने से पहले उनके उत्तर प्रस्तुत करने के लिए अनुमति नहीं है.
17.   एक उम्मीदवार स्क्रीन के दाईं ओर प्रदर्शित प्रश्न संख्या पर क्लिक करके प्रश्नों के बीच संचरण कर सकते हैं.
18.   एक उम्मीदवार एक विशेष प्रश्न पर क्लिक करता है, तो इसको प्रकट करने के लिए प्रश्न के लिए कुछ समय लगता है. इस नष्ट समय की परीक्षा के लिए आवंटित कुल समय से कटौती नहीं की जाती है.
19.   किसी भी परिस्थिति में परीक्षा प्रारंभ होने के बाद उम्मीदवार 'कुंजीपटल' कुंजी में से किसी पर क्लिक नहीं करना चाहिए, ऐसा करने से परीक्षा लॉक हो जाएगी.
जमा करने के बारें में
1.   उम्मीदवारों संपूर्ण परीक्षा समय से पहले अर्थात् 120 मिनट पूरे होने से पहले उनके उत्तर प्रस्तुत करने के लिए अनुमति नहीं है.
2.   एक उम्मीदवार को 'सबमिट' बटन क्लिक करने से पहले अपने उत्तर बड़क सकता हैं.
3.   परीक्षा अवधि की समाप्ति के बाद, उम्मीदवार किसी भी प्रश्न को हल करने या उनके उत्तर की जांच करने में सक्षम नहीं होगा.
4.   एक उम्मीदवार के उत्तर स्वचालित रूप से कंप्यूटर प्रणाली से सहेज लिए जायेंगे चाहें सबमिट' बटन क्लिक नहीं किया गया है.

एसबीआई पीओ परीक्षा : समय प्रबंधन टिप्स

भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (एसबीआई) परिवीक्षा अधिकारियों के पदों पर नियुक्ति के लिए पीओ की लिखित परीक्षा का आयोजन करेगा. परीक्षा में सम्मिलित होने से पहले, उम्मीदवारों नीचे उल्लेखित महत्वपूर्ण सुझावों पर ध्यान देना चाहिए जिससे और बेहतर तरीके से समय का प्रबंधन किया जा सके.

परीक्षा के पैटर्न को जानना
परीक्षा के पैटर्न को जानना आवश्यक हैं, उम्मीदवारों को वस्तुनिष्ठ परीक्षा के सभी वर्गों में न्यूनतम अंक प्राप्त करने आवश्यक हैं. उम्मीदवार को यह निर्णय करने की कौनसे भाग में अधिक अंक प्राप्त किये जा सकते हैं और कौनसा भाग अधिक समय लेगा आदि के लिए पहले ही एक योजना बनानी चाहिए.
समय विभाजित करें और सफलता प्राप्त करें
समय की सीमा हर परीक्षा के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कारक है. उम्मीदवारों के पास प्रत्येक खंड के लिए उचित समय प्रबंधन होना चाहिए. परीक्षा के लिए आवंटित कुल समय से प्रत्येक खंड के लिए समय विभाजित करें. प्रत्येक खंड के लिए समय विभाजन करते समय अभ्यर्थी को अपने मजबूत एवं कमजोर पक्षों का ध्यान रखना चाहियें.
जब आप परीक्षा के लिए तैयारी कर रहे हैं, तो आपको अपने मजबूत एवं कमजोर पक्षों का पता होता हैं अतः इसका उपयोग करें और तदनुसार समय विभाजित करें.
नकारात्मक अंकन को ध्यान में रखें
सामान्यता उम्मीदवार शत प्रतिशत सुनिश्चित हुए बिना प्रश्नों को हल करते हैं. यह सलाह दी जाती है की जब वें शत प्रतिशत सुनिश्चित हो तब ही प्रश्नों के जवाब दें क्योंकि प्रश्न पत्र के मूल्यांकन में ऋणात्मक अंकन का पालन किया जाता हैं.
कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातें जिनका ध्यान रखा जाये
•   किसी भी असुविधा से बचने के लिए निर्धारित समय से 30 मिनट पूर्व परीक्षा स्थल तक पहुंचें.
•   अपनी यात्रा में देरी से बचने के लिए पूर्व योजना बनायें.
•   अगर उम्मीदवार परीक्षा स्थल दूर रहते हैं तो गंतव्य पर एक से दो दिन पहले पहुंचे.
•   उम्मीदवारों को मान्य आईडी प्रूफ जैसे कि पासपोर्ट / पैन कार्ड / ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस / मतदाता कार्ड / फोटोग्राफ के साथ बैंक पासबुक / राजपत्रित अधिकारी द्वारा जारी फोटो पहचान (आधिकारिक लेटरहेड पर) / जन प्रतिनिधि द्वारा जारी फोटो पहचान प्रमाण / मान्यता प्राप्त कॉलेज / विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा जारी पहचान पत्र / आधार कार्ड / कर्मचारी का आईडी कार्ड के साथ ही एक फोटो प्रति साथ ले जानी चाहिए.
•   अपने हाल के पासपोर्ट आकार का फोटो के साथ कॉल लेटर.
•   सभी आवश्यक चीजें साथ लेकर कर जाएं जैसे रफ़ कार्य एवं अन्य दस्तावेज भरने के लिए बॉल प्वाइंट पेन आदि.
•   परीक्षा शुरु होते ही सबसे पहले प्रश्नों को पढ़ने में अपना समय बर्बाद नहीं करें जैसा की स्कूल / कॉलेज / विश्वविद्यालय की परीक्षाओं में किया जाता है.
•   तर्क और परिमाणात्मक वर्गों को अन्य वर्गों की तुलना में अधिक समय की आवश्यकता होती है.

एसबीआई पीओ साक्षात्कार: क्या करें, क्या न करें

भारतीय स्टेट बैंक पीओ की लिखित परीक्षा का परिणाम आ चुका है और सामूहिक चर्चा और व्यक्तिगत साक्षात्कार में शामिल होने वाले उम्मीदवारों की सूची भी प्रकाशित कर दी गई है. उम्मीदवारों ने साक्षात्कार के लिए कमर कसनी शुरू कर दी है जो कि 08 अक्टूबर 2014 से शुरू हो सकती है. लिखित परीक्षा मे सफल उम्मीदवारों को जल्द ही साक्षात्कार के लिए बुलावा-पत्र मिलना शुरू हो जाएगा और नई चुनौती का सामना करने के लिए वो तैयारी करना शुरू करेंगे.

लिखित परीक्षा का मकसद उम्मीदवारों की सोचने और निर्णय लेने की क्षमता की जाँच करना है पर सामूहिक चर्चा और व्यक्तिगत साक्षात्कार का दूसरा चरण एक दुरूह कार्य है. इसलिए उम्मीदवारों को अपना मन बनाते हुए जम कर तैयारी शुरू करनी होगी और अपने आप को साक्षात्कार के लिए बचे कम समय के लिए तैयार करना होगा क्योंकि एक पद के लिए हजारों उम्मीदवार पंक्ति में होते हैं.

क्या ना करें
अत्यधिक स्ट्रैस ना लें: बहुत अधिक पढ़ कर अपने दिमाग को बोझिल बना लेना अपकी कुछ भी मदद ना कर पाएगी. आपको राष्ट्रीय और अंर्तराष्ट्रीय घटनाओं संबंधित चीजें विश्वसनीय स्रोतों से पढ़नी है. अधिक पढ़ने से जवाब देने के समय आप पढ़ी हुई बातें भूल जाएँगे.
इसे हल्के में ना लें: साक्षात्कार को एक ऐसे मौके के रूप में ले जिससे आपका भविष्य सुरक्षित हो सकता है और आप एक उज्ज्वल भविष्य की ओर बढ़ सकते हैं. हमेशा यह याद रखें आपके पीछे कतार में बहुत सारे लोग अवसर की तलाश में खड़े हैं. इसलिए आपको जागरूक रहना होगा और साक्षात्कार के लिए मिले समय का हर क्षण बुद्धिमतापूर्वक प्रयोग करना होगा. अपने आप को मॉक स्पीच की शीशे के सामने तैयारी जैसे तरीकों के साथ आगे बढें.यह साक्षात्कार के कमरे में आपकी मदद करेगा. नियोक्ता के मन में अपनी अलग और अच्छी छवि बनाने के लिए यह सुनिश्चित करें कि आपने साक्षात्कार के अनुरूप परिधान पहने हैं.

साक्षात्कार के लिए देर से ना पहुँचें: समय का ध्यान रखते हुए गंतव्य पर समय से पहले पहुँचना सुनिश्चित करें. आपकी देरी नियोक्ता के मन में आपकी नकारात्मक छवि बना सकती है. इससे अपके प्राप्तांक पर प्रभाव पड़ सकता है और आपको नौकरी नहीं भी मिल सकती है. ससमय पहुँचना उम्मीदवार के व्यक्तित्व को दर्शाता है.

साथियों, यूपीएससी ने इस वर्ष से मुख्य परीक्षा में कई बड़े बदलाव लाये हैं जिनमे सामान्य अध्ययन पत्र में आये बदलाव काफी अहम् हैं | पहले जहां मुख्य परीक्षा में सामान्य अध्ययन के दो पेपर होते थे जिनका कुल अंक 600 था वहीं अब 250 अंको के चार पेपर ने सामान्य अध्ययन में अच्छे अंक लाने को सिविल सेवा में सफलता के लिए अनिवार्य बना दिया है |
इन बदलावों को मद्देनजर रखते हुए मैं अपनी पुरानी सामान्य अध्ययन की पुस्तक सूची को अद्यतन कर रहा हूँ | यह सूची प्रारंभिक एवं मुख्य परीक्षा के सामान्य अध्ययन के पाठ्यक्रम को आच्छादित करती है। हालाँकि यह आलेख मुख्यतः मुख्य परीक्षा पर केन्द्रित है | हाँ, यह सूची बस सांकेतिक है, एक-एक विषय पर अभी ढेरों स्तरीय किताबें उपलब्ध हैं, आपको उस किताब को चुनना है जो आपको पढने और समझने में अच्छी लग रही हो। आपको यह ध्यान में रखना है की आपको सिलेबस तैयार करना है न की किताबें। किताबो से वे ही चैप्टर पढ़े जो सिलेबस में पढने हो।

Ten Tips for the Police Entrance Exam

While police entrance processes vary widely from state to state, and even from department to department, most law enforcement applicant screening processes begin with the written exam. By starting with the written exam, most sheriffs and police chiefs (having been one I understand this concept) use the written exam as just that: a screening tool. Written exams are a fairly cheap way to knock out numerous applicants before they get to the more costly aspects of the process. Such more expensive steps could include background investigations, physicals and psychological exams.

Some agencies use the written exam as a way to move people out of the process. They don’t use it as a ranking tool. Other parts of the process (such as the oral review panel) may be where placement on eligibility lists originates.

Other agencies may give you extra points to be applied to your exam score. Among the favored stats groups that may be awarded additional points are: military veterans, already employed state certified law enforcement officers working for another agency, bilingual speakers with language fluency in local demand, and children of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Whatever the use or interpretation of the entrance exam, one thing is clear: it can stop you from advancing further in the process. Here are ten tips to help you through the exam.

1) Getting Additional Points. As alluded to above, see if any group gets additional points. The agency may have identified a need and tried to encourage the filling of the gap by awarding points. You may be lucky enough to be a member of a group that the agency wants badly.
2) Research the type of test. To know what to study, you need to ascertain what type of test is given by the agency. The PoliceLink.com discussion boards are an excellent source of information. Find out what previous members say about the test. Don’t get discouraged by value judgments on the process or bank on a reporting of the actual test questions (that would be unethical). You only want to get a feel for what type of test it is.
You may also be able to check with the testing agency. Many agencies offer or can point you to a study guide. Many of those study guides have sample questions that you can use to gauge your baseline ability to score well.
3) Shore up areas of weakness. Once you have identified the type of test questions being utilized and have done a self-assessment, you need to work to strengthen your perceived areas of vulnerability. For example, some agencies have a math component on their exam. Many people have problems with this section of the exam as it has been years since they have done math problems. The Internet has many sites that you can check out and self-tutor yourself.
4) Eat right. Try to avoid eating heavily or skipping the meal prior to the test. You want to eat light and avoid sugar-laden or heavily processed foods.
5) Mark your answers clearly and erase fully. Clear answer indicators are especially important if the test answer sheet is a Scantron type. With this type of answer sheet, the test taker fills in a little dot (corresponding with an answer letter) using a number two lead pencil. False error readings often result if the Scrantron scanner reader fails to detect an improperly filled in dot. While I don’t advocate changing your answer (as indicated above), make sure that you fully erase the pencil mark in the dot if you decide to do so.
6) Don’t change answers. After years of administering exams, I have found that the old adage holds true: stick with your first answer. In most cases, when you change the answer, you have changed it to a wrong answer. Your gut reaction is probably right.
7) Get plenty of sleep. Cramming the night before and staying up late has proven to bring back very little return for the sacrifice. You want your mind to be alert and fully functional. This is especially true if it is a long exam.
8) Don’t last minute cram. Having taken a few exams in my career, I am amazed by the people cramming in their car just minutes before taking an exam. Studying is best accomplished in smaller increments over time. I have always felt that creates additional stress. If you don’t know it by the time of the test, a few minutes of last minute cramming is not going to help and may even hurt.
9) Read questions carefully. I have observed that many people fail because they neglected to read the questions with due care. This is especially relevant when the test uses terms like “not,” “never,” and “only.”
Look at other questions. If you are unsure of an answer, leave it blank and come back to it later. Other questions may contain the answer that you were contemplating. If you do this, be sure to comply with the advice in number ten below.
10) Proof read test. Before you turn in your test answer sheet, be sure to check it over. Test takers often leave answers blank and that impacts their final score. This also gives you a chance to go back and answer those hard to figure out answers.

Paper Pattern

It’s all about glory, chivalry and courage. Being part of the country’s defence forces is not really a job, but a way of life. This is why thousands of aspirants with an adventurous streak and reverence for their motherland aspire to join the forces.

The selection process for candidates is based on highly scientific and well-evolved techniques of testing that aim at assessing their personality in the context of the traits needed for the defence forces. A major entry route is the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year to recruit officers for the Army, Navy and Air Force, followed by a face-to-face with the Services Selection Board (SSB).

The SSB adopts three different techniques to assess the personality traits of the candidate at the conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious levels. These are interview, group testing and psychological techniques.
While appearing for the CDS exam, candidates can opt for regular or short service entry courses. A final merit, based on written marks and performance in the SSB, is prepared and selected potential officers are then put through rigorous training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), the Indian Naval Academy (INA) or the Air Force Academy (AFA) and the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.

A permanent commission is allotted to candidates if they join the first three institutes while cadets passing out of the OTA get short service commission.
What you should be ready for For the CDS, there are three papers (English, general knowledge and math) of 100 marks and two-hour duration each for permanent commission and two papers (English and general knowledge) for the short service commission. The educational qualification required is a bachelors’ degree. Candidates wanting to apply for a technical entry should be in possession of an engineering degree.
Colonel (retd) DJS Chahal, director, Olive Greens Academy in Chandigarh, that prepares aspirants for the exam and subsequent stages of selection, says, “The syllabus is fairly broad and, therefore, aspirants must commence preparation much in advance. They must keep in touch with current affairs and continuously upgrade their awareness level. The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions. The question papers (test booklets) of general knowledge and elementary mathematics are set in Hindi as well as English. The standard of the papers in elementary mathematics will be of matriculation level. For other subjects, it is likely to be of graduation level in an Indian university. The papers also have negative marking.”
Tips for solving the paperAdvising aspirants on how to crack the test, Chahal says, “Getting a grip on math and English is the first step as these are the most important subjects. You should also learn to manage time as speed is the factor where candidates face problems. The time allotted to solve one question is approximately one minute. Focusing on basic concepts will help you know how to prepare for CDS. Your understanding should be clear. Cramming won’t help. Solving multiple question papers will lead to better time management keep you prepared for all kinds of questions.”
Previous papers should be attempted as this helps in understanding question patterns and marks distribution according to chapters. Easier chapters should be handled first. The chapters that you already know and understand well will not require much of an effort. “Basics also play a major role. While attempting the paper, you should keep your cool and go through the entire question paper first for a few minutes. Then, without wasting much time start with simple questions and gradually attempt other questions,” he adds.
For CDS exam, you may be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, you must have studied physics and maths up to Class 12.
Strategy and skill set required The candidates must begin with ascertaining the specific requirements, in terms of syllabus for the exam, weightage of each subject/component in each subject. Draw up a daily schedule to cover the complete syllabus at least three to four weeks in advance to the examination dates for revision and consolidation. Since the exam is in an objective type format, the major skills required are speed and accuracy. While preparing, emphasis must be on practising against the constraints of time. Timed practice sets for each examination must be attempted daily to ensure that you acquire skills such as time management and accuracy.
Make a time table so as to do three revisions – ie one detailed study and two quick revisions. Make notes while studying. Remember, once you clear the exam, you will get a chance to wear the prestigious uniform of the services.

Selection Procedure for NDA

Two stage selection procedure is based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.
All candidates are put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards.
Only candidates who qualify at stage one are admitted to the second stage.
Those candidates who qualify stage II are required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of :

  Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth
  Original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification
For final qualification, candidates for the Army/Navy and Naval Academy should secure minimum qualifying marks separately in
  (i) Written examination and
  (ii) Officer potentiality test, and
Candidates for the Air Force should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in
  (i) Written examination
  (ii) Officer potentiality test, and
  (iii) Pilot Aptitude Test as fixed by the Commission in their discretion.
Qualified candidates are then placed in final order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the Written examination, and the Services Selection Board Tests in three separate lists:
  (i) Army and the Navy,
  (ii) Air Force
  (iii) Executive course at the Naval Academy.
The names of candidates who qualify for all Services of NDA and the Naval Academy appearing all the three Merit Lists.
The final selection for admission will be made in order of merit depending on the number of vacancies in each wing.
The selection is subjected to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects.
NOTE: A candidate who fails in the Pilot Aptitude Test cannot apply for admission to the National Defence Academy Examination, the Air Force wing or General Duties (Pilot) Branch or Navy, Air Force or Army.

All About NDA Examinations

The National Defence Academy is the joint services academy of Indian armed Forces, where cadets for the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to per-commissioning training in their respective service academies. This is the world’s first Tri-service academy.
Admissions to the NDA are made through written exam conducted by the UPSC which is followed by extensive interviews covering general aptitude, psychological testing, team-building skills along with physical and social skills and medical tests.

New sessions are held twice a year. On an average about 3,20,000 applicants enroll for the written exam every year out of which 9000 are invited for the interviews. Candidates who wish to go to Air force have to go through a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test. An average total of about 300-350 students are accepted to the academy each year amongst which 66 cadets are accepted for the Air Force, 39 for the Navy and 195 for the Army.
On successful completion of the program cadets are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before granting of commission: cadets for army go to IMA Dehradun, Naval cadets to INA Ezhimala, Kerala and Air Force cadets are sent to Dundigal, Hyderabad.
Declines to commission are only accepted in case of a serious permanent medical condition caused during the program.

NDA Eligibility

Educational
For Army Wing of NDA
The candidate must have passed class XII of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University
For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at Naval Academy
The candidate must have passed class XII of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent exam conducted by a State Education Board or a University with physics and mathematics as main subjects.
Age:
The candidate must be of 16-1/2 to 19 years of age as on 1st January of the year the examination.

NDA Application

The entrance examination for NDA is conducted by UPSC every year. To apply a candidate must register online and pay the fees by Credit/Debit card or by Bank Challan. The application form is very simple to fill and can be filled on the official website of the UPSC.
The candidate must clearly read and follow the instructions provided to fill the application form to avoid any hassles during the registration process.
Candidates should include Copies of certificates mentioned in the notification with the application.
The candidate must provide upload the fe e details in the form and retain duplicate copies for all the receipts for future reference.
Keen attention must be paid while filling the application forms at all page.

Exam Pattern for NDA

The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:–

Note:
The papers in all the subjects consist of Objective (multiple choice answers) Type questions only.
Question Papers of Paper I – Mathematics and Part B of Paper II will be set in English and Hindi.
SI units will be used in the papers and Candidates should use only International form of Indian numerals (i.e. 1, 2, 3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question papers.
Commission has discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets).
Interview
  • The Union Public Service Commission declares a list of qualified candidates (based on the written exam).
  • The selected candidates appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test.
  • Candidates for the Army/Navy wings of the NDA and Executive branch of Naval Academy will be assessed on officer’s potentiality.
  • Candidates for the Air Force wing, along with officer potentiality assessment, will also undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.

Intelligence and Personality Test
In addition to the interview the candidates will be put to Intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess their basic intelligence. They will also be put to Group Tests such as group discussions, group planning, outdoor group tasks, and asked to give brief lectures on specified subjects. All these tests are intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also his social traits and interests in current affairs.
Guidelines for Physical Standards for Admission to the NDA: Guidelines for physical standards for admission to the national defence academy note: candidates must be physically and mentally fit according to the prescribed physical standards. The guidelines for the same are given below. A number of qualified candidates are rejected subsequently on medical grounds. Candidates are therefore advised in their own interest to get themselves medically examined before submitting their applications to avoid disappointment at the final stage.
Candidates are also advised to rectify minor defects/ailments in order to speed up finalization of medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB.
The under mentioned ailments are considered, common minor ailments:
  (a) Wax (Ears)
  (b) Deviated Nasal Septum
  (c) Hydrocele/Phimosis
  (d) Overweight/Underweight
  (e) Under sized Chest
  (f) Piles
  (g) Gynaecomastia
  (h) Tonsillitis
  (i) Varicocele
Civilian candidates appearing for all types of commission in the Armed Forces will be entitled to out-patients treatment from service sources at public expense for injuries sustained or diseases contracted during the course of their examination by the Selection Board.
They will also be entitled to in-patient treatment at public expense in the Officers’ ward of a hospital provided–
(a) The injury is sustained during the tests or,
(b) The disease is contracted during the course of the examination by selection board and there is no suitable accommodation in local civil hospital or it is impracticable to remove the patient to the civil hospital; or,
(c) The medical board requires the candidates’ admission for observation.
NOTE: They are not entitled to special nursing. A candidate recommended by the Services Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy who are declared fit by the Medical Board. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However the candidates declared unfit will be intimated by the President of the Medical Board and the procedure for request for an Appeal Medical Board will also be intimated to the candidate.
Candidates declared unfit during Appeal Medical Board will be intimated about the provision of Review Medical Board.
(a) The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disease/disability which is likely in interferes with the efficient performance of military duties.
(b) There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or underweight. The candidate should not be overweight or obese.
(c) The minimum acceptable height is 157.5 cms. (162.5 cms for Air Force) For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cms. less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms. Height and weight standards are given below:

A ± 10% (A ± 6 Kg for Navy) departure from the average weight given in the table 1 above is to be considered within normal limit. However, in individuals with heavy bones and broad build as well as individuals with thin but otherwise healthy this may be relaxed to some extent on merit.
NOTE 1: Height relaxable upto 2.5 cm (5 cm. for Navy) may be allowed where the Medical Board certifies that the candidate is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.
NOTE 2 : To meet special requirement as a pilot in the Air Force the acceptable measurements of leg length, thigh length and sitting height will be as under :–

On account of lower age of NDA candidates, a margin of upto 5.0 cm. in height, 2.5 cm. in leg length (minimum) and 1.0 cm. sitting height (minimum) may be given provided it is certified by the Medical Board that the candidate is likely to grow and come upto the required standard on completion of his training in NDA.
(d) Chest should be well developed. Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cms. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms. The measurement will be taken with a tape so adjusted that its lower edge should touch the nipple in front and the upper part of the tape should touch the lower angle of the shoulder blades behind. X-Ray of the chest is compulsory and will be taken to rule out any disease of the chest.
(e)There should be no mal-development or impairment of function of the bones or joint.

Generic tips

Syllabus: Just be completely in sync with the syllabus and start preparing the subjects accordingly.

Past question papers: Solve as many past question papers as possible. Previous years' question papers will give you an insight into what to expect.

Maintain routine: It is a good idea to maintain a routine so that you completely cover all the subjects and also have the time to have a quick revision.

Clear concept: Have a clear understanding about the topics. This will help you solve the paper easily.

Time management: How to solve and answer all the questions in the examination hall is something that you have to plan and prepare well. Having a strategy in place helps. The strategy will differ from person to person. You can choose your own strategy. For instance, identify the topics you are strong at and tackle those questions first. Then move on to questions you are less confident about. Also time yourself and mentally have a certain amount of time fixed for answering the questions and stick to it.

Study material: You can refer to good study materials. They are available in book stores or online. They certainly help a lot.

Coaching: You can opt for personal coaching if you feel the need to. Or maybe you can get in touch with candidates who have cleared the CDS exam and take tips from them.

Officer's attitude: Begin to think and behave like an officer. You can practice by putting yourself in the shoes of an officer every time you face a situation. This will certainly play a vital role in developing your personality. Just a word of caution - be sincere when you think and behave like an officer, because superficiality is not going to pay here.

Build confidence: Have the confidence that you will clear the CDS exam. After all the Defence Forces is all about courage and confidence. So, having a positive attitude will go a long way in ensuring that you clear the CDS exam.

Combined Defence Services (CDS) is an exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam enables candidates to get recruited into the:

Preparing for CDS examination

English

The English question paper will consist of 100 marks and will be objective in nature. It will test the candidate's understanding of the language and will comprise basic grammar, spotting the correct sentences, antonyms, synonyms, and the like.

Preparation tips

To prepare for English, one can develop the habit of reading the newspaper regularly. Reading the newspaper improves not only one's vocabulary but also one's knowledge about the subject
One can refer to basic grammar books to clear the concepts
Try to learn a couple of new words on a daily basis. By doing this, you will soon find that you are developing a good hold over the language
When you are learning the new words, also try to learn their antonyms and synonyms and also how to use the words in sentences
Try solving past year's question papers so that you have an idea of what to expect

General Knowledge

The General Knowledge paper will consist of 100 marks and will be objective in nature. It will test the candidate about his knowledge on various subjects including current affairs, history, geography, scientific relation to day-to-day experiences, generic scientific observations as may be expected of an educated person who does not have specialization in any particular subject.

Preparation tips:

Read newspapers regularly and watch television for the latest happenings in and around the world.
Read magazines that cover varied topics ranging from economy to business to trade policies to the latest awardees in the fields of sports, art, literature. In short, just be aware of all the topics because questions can come from anywhere.
Refer to past question papers and see the pattern of occurrence of the questions. That will give you an idea as to which topics to concentrate on.

Elementary Mathematics

The Elementary Mathematics paper will cover topics like Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration and Basic statistics. Usually the standard is that of matriculation.

Revise all the topics thoroughly
First, pick up the topics that you are strong at and practice thoroughly. Later move on the difficult ones and try to practice as much as possible

Personal interview: Intelligence and Personality test

A candidate is eligible to take the Intelligence and Personality test only if he or she clears the written test. The Intelligence and Personality test is conducted by Services Selection Board (SSB). The SSB has the sole authority to conduct this test, which is usually spread over 3 to 4 days. This test judges a candidate of his intelligence, personality, and his ability to be chosen as an officer in the Defence Forces. There are several components included in the test like Psychological Tests, Group Discussion, Intelligence Tests, Outdoor activities, Opinion on issues, Physical Fitness, and the like. Through this test, a candidate has to prove that he is just not intelligent and academically qualified, but also possesses qualities that will make him a worthy officer.

Concentrate and develop reasoning ability, written and oral expressions, self-confidence, courage, a positive and a cheerful attitude
Train your mind to think clearly, rationally and logically
Try to improve the way you can influence people through logical arguments

Medical interview

Candidates will undergo medical examination only when they clear the SSB interview. The test is usually conducted at the nearest Military Hospital and spreads over 3 to 4 days. The test is a long one and is different for all the three forces - Army, Navy and Air Force.
