FORMING A TEAM TO FIGHT
I knew a thing about myself that is I never ever gave up whatever is the condition is throughout my life. I have done so many things which initially seem to be impossible but because of my attitude of not giving up I came like a winner every time. As there was no reason to live the life I made EC the only reason to live life. I made eradicating it only mission of my life. I considered it one of the challenges which seem to be impossible. I sold all my stuff which was expensive and called luxurious and collected enough amount of money. I started to work against it with all my dedication and I wanted to get all the things back which I have lost because of EC. Soon once again I isolated myself so as to avoid any interaction as it develops negative thought. This time in a remote and peaceful town where no one knows me and I don’t know anyone. During this I actually stopped following forums on net as I felt they were creating a lot of confusion in my mind as so many suggested treatment options were there so question was which to follow which to not ? So I started studying and understanding the disease myself and trying different treatment depending on that. I bought lot of books for studying also I bought general books like novels, etc and DVDs so as to spend remaining time peacefully and avoid negative thought. Also I joined local meditation centre of Brahma Kumaris which gave me peace of mind and satisfactory answers to my entire questions about life. In remaining time I watched lot of movies, plays of different languages during this period I came across with prison break series, I was quite impressed by it. It gave me one thought that is working in a team is much more advantageous than working alone. So I decided to form a team. A team containing doctors from different faculties like dermatologist, dentist, pathologist, physician, nutritionist, etc. Also I contacted doctors of alternative medicine like homeopathic and ayurvedic doctors, later on a psychiatrist and a hypnotist became a part of team. and I formed a team of ten members. I preferred contacting my doctor friends or doctors of my age because my previous experience with senior doctors not good and they seem to be less enthusiastic regarding problem. Finally I formed a team of ten members. We stayed connected all time with each other through internet and mobiles. We organized a meeting once a month. My team has been very helpful and supportive with me. They supported me psychologically and financially whenever I needed. We all actually want to eradicate this problem with a very strong feeling. And finally after a passionate work of my team for long three years we come to the conclusion. I felt like this is one f the biggest achievement of my life. It was not possible if anything missing right from team to bramha kumaries to prison break to my college to the fact that I am a dentist and victim of disease (If I wouldn’t a dentist I wouldn’t have took it that seriously and followed others advices blindly and finally gave up.) I am thankful to all those who has been part of my team directly or directly.

REAL IMPACT
Hi Friends,
I have experienced what damage EC can cause to my life. This is what I called REAL IMPACT. I haven’t seen this impact in my college life although I suffered a lot. I don’t have any Idea how worst it is going to make my life.
Immediately after completing my graduation I applied for the job in 3 to 4 hospitals in the city. And one of the hospital called me for the interview and offered me job of full time Dental Surgeon. I accepted offer because they are paying decent salary too. But soon I started feeling uncomfortable because it was a full time job, six working days in a week and number of patient was too much. So I am not able to maintain the peeling cycle till Saturday may be because of increased stress. I got viral infection after few days. I took leave from hospital and preffered to stay at room but I became so ill that I needed to be hospitalized. My friend hospitalized me. This was the starting of worst phase of my life. EC became so worst and so noticeable that it was never before. I took a lot of time to recover from hospital. After recovering I decided to take some rest and give some time to minimize severity of CE. But it hasn’t happened condition remained as it is, peeling cycle became short i.e. around two days and condition became so noticeable that I couldn’t hide it. So I became very uncomfortable to join hospital again because I always thought that I am prone to any opportunistic infections due to the condition and hospital infections are much more resistant and dangerous than non hospital infection (which is true). And was not comfortable to carry myself as a confident Doctor. As a result I decided to leave the job. It was very hard decision as I couldn’t do anything else beside dentistry. I don’t have any justifiable reason to explain this to anyone because I still wanted to keep it secret as still I didn’t want to be sympathized by anyone. In India it is very difficult to get a job so everyone thought about me that either I am a stupid, careless or a big looser. Everyone started hating me. I lost all my integrity and credibility in my life. At that time I was just helpless, I felt like being punished hard for doing nothing. No job, no money, no friends and no family I lost everything in my life because of this. EC didn’t left a single reason to live my life. And I know many of us have been through more or less similar experiences like mine.

THE BIGNNING
Hi Friends,
First of all I like to give a good news i.e. EC is completely curable!!!! And I cured it. Yes I mean it. Through my blog I am going to explain what is EC is and how to get rid of it. Eradicating EC is only mission of life and will definitely do it. Be a part of it. For this I need all yours valuable support and help. Before all this I would like to tell you my story. I am expecting from you to read my story patiently as I have read so many of yours. Please excuse me if you think story is too lengthy.
I am Dr Swapnil. I am a dentist from India. I understand how difficult, depressing, frustrating and embarrassing the condition is. Because I was also one of those unfortunate ones like you all suffering from EC. And being a dentist it was further difficult to accept this. First time I noticed this during my course of dentistry in my dental school. Initially I took it very lightly considering it as a minor and temporary problem may be due to nutritional deficiency or stress related to exam, etc and started taking medication myself like multivitamin and iron supplement, antibiotics and anti- inflammatory drugs. I was not aware of this condition is going to ruin my life. After some days I noticed that no improvement in the condition. Then I went to one of the senior lecturer of Oral Medicine Department and he told me not to worry it is not a serious problem and asked me to continue same medication but I was not satisfied with his explanation and went to Head of Oral Medicine Department. He took my detailed case history and told me that he want to do biopsy of lip. I agreed and biopsy done. It was very painful. Biopsy revealed nothing significant and after discussing the condition for two days with Head of Oral Pathology they diagnosed the condition called EXFOLIATIVE CHEILITIS and came to conclusion that it is one of the rarest condition of unknown origin and no cure is found till date, they advised me to take a supportive treatment so as to ease the severity of condition. At that time I was in a complete shock. I just asked them not to talk or discuss it with anyone and keep it secret as I don’t want to get embarrassed with my friends and become topic of discussion and later on part of their sympathy in college and they agreed. I also managed to keep it secret. For this I left hostel and got a room with no partner. It was very hard to accept that this condition will going to last for throughout my life and It took almost three months to come out of shock. I was not attempting college all these days just searching anything and everything about EC in books, internet and anywhere and everywhere by every possible ways. I have started avoiding friends, tried to have little or no interaction with college staff and friends. During that period I have tried every possible treatment from dermatologist, ayurvedic doctors to homeopathy doctors but nothing worked significantly. I have also undergone unsuccessful laser therapy from a dermatologist. Also followed different treatment options from forums on internet. At that time I have lost a lot of money and patience. These treatments only eased the condition from severe to mild. The time was so hard that cannot stay lonely further as it was adding my depression and frustration. Also I was very angry about the contempary medical sciences as no research, study; etc has been done regarding this issue. The only thing that gave me a little concern is that I was not the only one having EC. Meanwhile I managed to take control over curing cycle period means extended it from three days to five days. Then I decided doing nothing than counting the days is not the way to live the life so I decided to join the college. And I managed to attend the college for four to five days in a week without much discomfort and keeping secret as secret. For this I have used a trick which is intentionally scraping or peeling every Saturday with the help of moisturizer and water. Till Monday morning it would be healed considerably so I can attend college comfortably till Wednesday, the discomfort starts on Thursday and most difficult day was Friday. I have to take care a lot on every Fridays. But I was quite happy that I was attending college, exams, etc very well. I was just afraid of attending patients in postings as there were chances of getting infection from patients as lips skin and mucosa were not healthy also I had strong feeling that no one should get this from me (but it was not true as I realized soon that it is not a contagious disease as I haven’t got it from any one and my girlfriend haven’t got it from me.) So I started taking extra care during postings and attending patient right from entering the department with a double mask and gloves. I considered every patient as if he is having life threatening contageous disease. Even I haven’t talked any patient without masks for this my colleague laughed at me still I maintained that habit of taking extra precautions. Still I was not comfortable to attend patient at all. By this way I have completed my bachelor’s course at dental school not happily or satisfactorily but just completed. I actually wanted to complete my post graduation in dental sciences but I had completely lost interest in it and my dream remained DREAM for me.
