HYUNDAI NUVIS CONCEPT MAKES WORLD DEBUT AT NEW YORK AUTO SHOW

NEW YORK, April 9, 2009 – The world will have the opportunity to peer into Hyundai’s future when the Nuvis concept makes its world debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

The Nuvis is the eleventh signature concept car to be designed at the company’s California Design Center in Irvine, Calif. In addition to showcasing the brand’s cutting-edge capabilities, Nuvis also hints at a possible design direction for a future-generation crossover, blending attributes of a tall urban car and a premium utility vehicle.

Consistent with Hyundai’s pledge to lead all brands in U.S. fuel economy by 2015, Nuvis is powered by Hyundai’s Hybrid Blue Drive architecture, which uses breakthrough lithium polymer battery technology.

2010 BMW X6 M

BMW has officially released images of its X6 M high-performance crossover, which will be on display at the New York Auto Show 2009. Built to compete with Prosche’s Cayenne Turbo and other high-performance crossovers, the X6 M may very well be in a class of it’s own.

The X6 M uses a version of BMW’s latest twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. Output is pegged at 555 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and peak torque is 501 pound-feet, available between 1,500 and 5,650 rpm. The car can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, according to the automaker.

SEAT makes no bones about aiming the Altea XL at the family market. The XL is actually an estate version of the Altea, although you could be forgiven for thinking it is an MPV. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure where the dividing line is drawn between the two forms. Whatever it is, the upsized XL offers plenty of space for family or friends.

The Altea XL is unmistakably a SEAT featuring the now familiar swooping crease-lines that emanate from around the front grille and cat’s-eye headlights. The main differences between the Altea and the XL version, apart from the extra 18.7cm in length, are the roof rails and the rear end where the tail-lights continue from the rear wings into the tailgate.

The Tesla Model S sedan has a range of 300 miles, a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. The company say the electric Tesla Model S can be re-charged from any 120V, 240V or 480V outlet, a full re-charge taking 45 minutes from the 480V outlet.

The powertrain of the Tesla Model S is mounted under the floor which offers extra luggage space under the hood. The storage space offers the possibility to carry a 50-inch television, a mountain bike and a surfboard simultaneously. The company offers a range of batteries for the Tesla Model S, with an autonomy of 160, 230 or 300 miles per charge.

2010 Volkswagen Golf GTD

Volkswagen released all the official details on the new Golf GTD that will be debuting this weekend at the Leipzig Motor Show in Germany. The new hot diesel hatch revives a designation that originally appeared in 1982 but hasn't been seen in two decades. This time around, the high output 168 hp version of VW's 2.0-liter TDI four cylinder pushes the GTD to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds. On the EU combined test cycle, the GTD gets 44.4 mpg (U.S.) with CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

The GTD is much a new GTI except that gas powered car's red grille stripes are now finished in chrome to set it apart. Inside the car, the red contrasting stitching of the GTI is also replaced by light grey for the diesel model. Considering the handling capabilities of the GTD, the sport seats look like they can keep the driver in place for the job at hand.

2009 Hyundai Blue-Will Concept

Korean automaker Hyundai is ramping up its efforts in the hybrid segment with the presentation of an all-new concept car at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show. The BLUE-WILL is a proposal for a family-sized, dedicated hybrid model in the likes of the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. The plug-in hybrid powered by an all-aluminum gasoline direct-injected 1.6-litre engine which is coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and a powerful 100kw (134HP) electric motor.

Electric power is stored in a compact Lithium-Ion Polymer battery pack which is located along with the fuel tank under the rear seat to maximize luggage space. The Hyundai group will be the first automaker in the world to apply Lithium Ion Polymer batteries in mass production vehicles.

CLC 160 BlueEfficiency is also the first version with the stamp of "increased efficiency" which is set for the CLC coupé. The new Renault Clio has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2009, and there’s a surprise in store for gadget fans. The French carmaker has worked with TomTom to build in a top of the range satnav, with a monster screen, software updates from the web and best of all, a low price tag.

Dubbed Carminat TomTom, it’s the first time TomTom has integrated its whole satnav system into a car. The screen is a 5.8 inches across, much larger than stand-alone satnavs, and instead of making the driver reach forward to use a touchscreen, Renault has integrated the TomTom’s controls into the steering column.
