Last Monday, we had no internet connection at all until last Wednesday. All I got is nothing, no notice of temporary service disconnection or anything. Mydestiny is really fast and efficient in sending subscribers with their promos and of course monthly bills and notice of bill payment, but with regards to any service failure they’re not.

Another thing is that their technical support is so bulok/crappy. Why? Because their trunk line is not working anymore. They switched to one phone per tech support agent. You have to memorize lots of phone numbers and dial them one at a time, you’re lucky if you get on the line on just one dial. Isn’t that so bulok? If i didn’t call them I wouldn’t know that there is a problem with the lines our area.

For me, MyDestiny should give proper notice to their subscribers when something happened with their servers or whatever they call it. Well, we’ve been a subscriber for more than two years already and nothing has changed. No improvements but full of crappy service.

During my stay in Riyadh, I often use Mobily’s 3g internet services. Though it’s kinda expensive, I still use it to check my mails and other stuff online. When I went back here in Manila, our myDestiny Cable internet was cut off so I have to try alternatives. One of the things I tried is using Globe’s Internet Services using my N73 phone with Globe prepaid sim. I set it up correctly using nokia’s settings wizard but when I tried using it, I always get this packet issues. I really don’t know what’s wrong with the set up or why is it not working. My question is that, is Globe’s 3g internet service really working?

I haven’t tried smart’s services yet but I do think that it is the real deal. I mean, if you are looking for an alternative say like you’re in a province or on the go, Smart is there and I’ve heard that it’s nice. Added that it’s internet service is relatively cheap(10pesos every 30 minutes).

Maybe some of you might be wondering why the hell Am i desperately in need of internet connection. Well, we are moving to dasmarinas cavite really soon. And I think the subdivision were we live is not supported by any ISPs so my alternative is using my phone and prepaid sim as my modem to connect through the intarwebs.

Anyhoo, do you guys know if there are any ISPs providing services in our Area, it’s in greenwoods subdivision dasmarinas cavite.

Thanks and Goodluck to me.

The Company

Accenture is a global and one of the top companies when it comes to management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing.

What they say

Last year a lot of my friends and batch mates from Mapua got the chance to have their OJT and some were eployed immediately. From their experiences, it’s a nice company to work with especially for fresh graduates because they give trainings and the compensation is good. Though some would say that it isn’t because you wouldn’t know where you will be placed not until the orientation for the new hires, I forgot what they call it.

How to apply

Submit your resume or better yet contact them. Accenture people will call you and would schedule you for exam.

The Exam
I know two exam locations, one in libran and the other is in AIM building near Greenbelt 1. Exam is time pressured which is composed of English, Math, Abstract Reasoning and Flowcharts.

The Interview
After taking the exam, wait for like a week and they’ll call you if you passed the exam and will schedule for interview. Some applicants doesn’t need to be interviewed and will be asked for the medical exam.

The Job offer
After Medical exam, 90% sure you’ll be able to receive of a job offer, usually there is a bond of two years. It’s up to you if you’ll accept it.

I’ve been searching for a job for like years already and unfortunately, I’m having a hard time on landing a job. It’s either I fail the interviews or I am just not good enough. Although there are a lot of vacant jobs for IT graduates, Still there are many people who are unemployed. One of the main reason why is that we lack enough education and skills to compete with others.

I’ve learned so much over the years of my job hunting experience so I guess it’s about time that I give fresh graduates some tips on companies and their application procedures. In this case, applicants would have the time to review to pass the exam and ace the interview.

So watch out for my upcoming posts about IT companies.

Yay! I’m back, after ten years!

Last week, there was an internet outage in Middle East and south asian countries due to a damaged cables lying under the seabed. It happened Wednesday that’s why the casualty, at first, has not noticed by home users. But businesses and call centers are much affected because of they rely on this technology. Until now, they are not sure what caused the damage and when is the internet going to be stable.

Our internet connection here in the building is not quite stable yet. Time to time I got disconnected and wait for hours to re-establish a connection. I tried to download Visual c++ 2008 express edition to test the download speed of our connection and to my surprise I downloaded it fast and encountered only one problem, that’s when I got disconnected.

Internet connectivity has been a part of each of our lives and we feel incomplete when we are not able to check our mails and do our daily tasks with the internet. It’s just frustrating trying to go online these past few days.

Recently, I encountered an error after updating my wordpress to its latest version(not really, a version before the latest). An error like “wp_post2cat’ doesn’t exist”. I checked the database and compared my installed wordpress blogs if the others have post2cat table but to my surprise my other blog and this blog don’t have that table and alvin’s blog has. So I googled the error and found out that some plugins are causing this error. I have to disable every plugin and check if it fixes the problem.

Anyways, I’ve already solved the problem. It seems that Simple tags plugins, Asides plugin and other plugins which uses categories would cause this problem. The reason is that newer version of wordpress doesn’t have wp_post2cat table but uses other table name like wp_term.

Everytime you update your wordpress, make sure you check your plugins if it’s compatible with the new version and if it’s not then update your plugins as well.

By the way, this also covers wordpress themes because new version of wordpress uses different template tags.

I’ve been using Nokia N73 for almost a year already and when I came back here in Riyadh I was able to use its features. one of the features that I am really thankful of is the email and settings wizard. Setting up your N73 to receive and send emails is easy.

Go to Tools > Setting Wizard > E-mail > Choose your Country/Region and Operator (Mine is Saudi Arabia, and Mobily KSA Prepaid) > choose your email provider (we’re using gmail) > Outgoing mail Server (choose smtp.gmail.com) > type your complete email address (youremail@gmail.com), then your user name and password > then press Options and select Ok.

Once you’re done, go to Messaging and you should see a Gmail folder below My Folders. Congratulations You have just setup your gmail account in your N73 phone.

This actually applies to other N series nokia phones.

Before retrieving your messages, I suggest you modify your email settings. Go to Gmail folder then click options, choose email settings > Retrieval Settings > Email to Retrieve (choose headers only so only the sender and subject of the email will be retrieved) then press OK.

Retrieving your messages. Messaging > Gmail > Options > Connect. It will update your gmail inbox with the headers of the new messages. Remember that we choose headers only in retrieval settings so you have to mark every headers of the message that you want to retrieve. By choosing headers only, we were able to save data downloaded.

Prices vary from Operator. Here, based on my experience, 1mb of data transfered including upload(send) and download(receive) costs around 2 Riyals which is expensive compared to other Operators worldwide which offers per hour basis and sometimes unlimited browsing.

Five years ago, Internet here in Saudi Arabia is much more like the others. Still, dial up through 56k modem is the main gateway through the internet. Prepaid cards then were sold for 20 Riyals for 20 hours. I think we also pay for additional charges through our telephone bill.

Three months ago, I came back here in Riyadh and was surprised that there are already a lot of broadband users. Yes, I saw them because they are connected through WIFI. But then ISPs rate are expensive excluding the devices. And down speed is slow compared to my connection, myDestiny, in the Philippines. I am not connected directly to the modem because I am using wifi but still I experience slow connectivity and intermittent connection. The access point is in the room above our flat.

I am still trying to convince my father to get us a broadband connection. In that way, I can test whether broadband here in Riyadh is really slow. Anyways, thanks to our neighbors for their wireless connection.

By the way, Another thing that I noticed is that their wireless connections are not secured. And if it’s secured, most of them are using WEP encryption which is more vulnerable to hackers.

The good: Lots of unsecured wireless connection, free wifi, a very kind neighbor.(grins)

The bad: Expensive subscription, down and up speed, lots of blocked sites.

I usually plug in my Laptop and go online everytime I wake up in the morning but today is different. No internet connection, down? Not really. We have not paid for the bill yet because of some reason, like losing your wallet with your ATM in it. That sucks.

Internet is like my life. I spend most of the time in front of my laptop reading news, blogs, etc and just surfing till i get tired. Anyway, here’s a list of things that I do everytime our internet is down.

1. Play Sudoku
Fuck me if you don’t what sudoku is and how to play it. Yeah! I know, it’s really addictive. I installed it in my nokia n73 phone so that I could play whenever I’m bored or just have nothing to do.

2. Sleep
Yeah! Who doesn’t want sleep? I mean, we really all need it and we have to thank the ISP because we get to sleep coz of that internet connection.

3. Design
No internet. Uh oh. Ok. It’s time to design. Usually my creativity works when I’m alone and I hate it when I’m online because it’s tempting to like open your browser and surf than designing graphics.

4. Go out and chat with friends
Like I’ve said I spend most of my time in front of my laptop so going out is like going offline. When internet is down, go out, chat, play, do the things you love most except surfing the net. Really helps to relieve stress and just a good thing to pass time.

5. Dial up mode.
This happens when you are really desperate to go online. But you got so fucked up because its fucking slow, so you text while waiting for the page to load or do those other things that you do till the page loads.

I did not include calling the ISP because it sucks. You know what I mean huh?

Anyway, those are the things. You might wanna try it. It’s really effective because while you’re doing those you wouldn’t know that time passes by so quickly.
