New Metro line is proposed between Rajnandgaon-Bhilai-Raipur-Naya Raipur. It is 80 Kms link.

First phase work will start with Bhilai-Raipur connectivity.

Chhattisgarh government's move to modernize mass transport system for its capital and adjoining cities got a shot in the arm with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) giving a final nod for construction of the inter-state metro rail link connecting Raipur and Durg. DMRC completed the feasibility study and has recommended for a detailed project report (DPR) that would see the metro rail chugging out of the city by 2021.

2,000-yr-old archaeological site found in C’garh

Archaeologists have discovered remains of a 2,000-year-old mud-fort at Damaru, 18 kms north-east of Baloda Bazar. The site is located on the bank of river Seonath in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district.

“The surface findings have indicated that the site may date back to 1st century AD. The excavation of the site may throw light on the missing historical links between 1st century AD and 5th century AD of Chhattisgarh, known in archaeological parlance as dark period”, archaeological officer and director of Damroo excavation Dr Shivakant Vajpayee told..

Sirpur was once large buddhist historical site, it has been traced by foreign historians as well. And in budhhist scripts and books there is mention of Sirpur or Sripur.

Finding this excavation site shows the same place, and with more details it will be proved to be great historical achievment. It is said that this place was used for Budhhist preaching and teaching, this could be one kind of university or worship place used for gathering of big events.

This is one of the most recent excavation at Sirpur, Chhattisgarh. This is the picture of one of the panel on top of a huge platform. Some people call it a temple complex, but I dont agree with them and probably any person with common sense will not agree. Anyways, it is a great site ans although excavation is not carried out in the best possible way, but atleast something has been done. It is still a site worth visiting.

The ancient city of Sirpur (also called Shirpur) has been mentioned in ancient epigraphic records, dating back to the 5th to the 8th centuries A.D. The city was once the capital of the Sarbhapuriya and Somvanshi Kings of Dakshin (south) Kosala and was an important Buddhist centre. It was even visited by Hiuen Tsang, the great Chinese traveler and scholar, around 635 AD. The small but interesting town of Sirpur has many beautiful temples worth visiting on Sirpur Tour.

There are many new locations near Sirpur are being checked by Archeologist. These is significant breakthrough recently by finding Tarighat site near Raipur. This location is just 60-70 km far from Sirpur.

Attractions:

DMRC has completed the feasibility study and has recommended a detailed project report (DPR). The cost of the entire project is estimated to be worth Rs 20,000 crore. The project will be implemented in three phases.

Metro Train between Rajnandgaon-Durg-Raipur-Naya Raipur is divided in three phase.

First phase:

Durg to Raipur (45 Kms Approx).
Possible metro route will be Raipur Naka - Jail Tiraha - Pulgaon Chowk - parallel to NH 6 towards Telibandha Raipur. It is going to cost 6000 Cr Rs.
There are 18 stations proposed for this route.

At present, about 28 lakh people commute between the two cities every month.

Second Phase:

Rajnandgaon to Durg. (45 Kms approx.)
There are 15 stations proposed for this route.
Approximate cost will be 8000 Cr. Rs. for this phase.

Third Phase:

Telibandha, Raipur to Naya Raipur (40 Kms approx)
Survey is completed but approximate budget is still under discussion.

Chhattisgarh Metro route is planned to complete by year 2021.

Almost 10,000 people commute per day from Raipur to Rajnand Gaon. But the general public thinks that metro should be introduced on Raipur-Bilaspur route because the traffic pressure is higher than the Raipur-Rajnandgaon. But because of natural resource and blocks, the Raipur-Rajnandgaon route was an easier and cheaper option for the government.
