While reveling to house music mixes by DJ Pav Parrotte, party goers were treated with fire dance exhibitions, Brazilian models, free mixed drinks, and many other freebies from Havanaias. The event was organized by Havaianas and co-produced by SPYCO Marketing Productions Manila.

Passenger traffic to the Iloilo Airport totaled 1,324,148 in 2009 translating to an increase of 23.3% compared to last year’s figures. The newly released data from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) still affirms the Iloilo Airport’s position as the 4th busiest airport in the country according to passenger traffic volume.

It was yet another successful showcase of the colorful history and culture of Iloilo during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held last month in Manila by three Ilonggo Festivals. The Dinagyang Festival, Paraw Regatta Festival, and Kasag Festival of Banate were among the crowd favorites and were included in the top 10 of the street dance competition with the Dinagyang Festival emerging as the champion and Kasag Festival as 2nd runner-up. Here are the results of the much awaited Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held in Manila last April 26 – 28, 2010. All three contingents from Iloilo got into the circle of winners. The Dinagyang Festival emerged as the champion with Kasag Festival of Banate, Iloilo in 3rd place and Paraw Regatta Festival as one of the runners up.

It’s actually been a while since Coffee Break and Green Mango opened in a new building in Nelly Garden along Lopez Jaena St., Jaro but here are photos of it for everybody to see. Both stores have spacious al fresco area, where you can take your Green Mango meals tegether with your Coffee Break drinks or desserts.

We could now see the whole structure of the New 164MW Coal Fired Power Plant in La Paz District, Iloilo City. The tall smoke stack was installed last month, and it’s quite tall! It’s easily the tallest man-made structure in Panay Island. If you notice closely the main structure looks like two smaller structures joined together, it’s actually because the power plant is composed of two separate smaller (82MW) power plants.

Here’s an update of the Jaro Floodway, which is a component of the Iloilo Flood Control Project. The Jaro Floodway is basically a new artificial river or waterway built to address the flooding problem in Iloilo City by providing an escape channel of floodwaters from where the Aganan and Tigum Rivers meet in Pavia direct to the Iloilo Strait.  The excavation works along the whole floodway is almost complete and all the 6 bridges are already being used (with the temporary land crossings removed).

The contractors are currently on the process of improving the river walls with concrete on important areas like near the bridges and vetiver grass on most parts.

This is the part where the Jaro Floodway meets the Iloilo Strait:

There is are two parallel roads at each side of the Jaro Flooway. The new route provides direct access from Pavia to McArthur Highway in Jaro, and all the way to the Coastal Road in La Paz. It’s still not certain if both of these roads will be paved once the floodway is complete.

A lot of the vetiver grass looks like it’s about to wither (if it hasn’t already) because of the harsh dry season.
