Roasted Avocado Wedges

What are you snacking on lately? I can't get enough of Katy’s scrumptious spin on my beloved avocados - roasted avocado wedges:) They are perfect just by themselves or you can add them to a simple salad or (my favourite) eat them with yoghurt-garlic dip on the side. If you never had warm avocados before, the taste is similar to artichoke hearts - just creamer, richer and more scrumptious.

The best part: they take only 15 minutes to make. You need 2 avocados, a dash of olive oil, 2 cloves on grated garlic, salt and pepper. Ta dah! Here is the full recipe:)

3 Rules To Long Flowy Dresses

Do you wear long dresses? I love them and they are one of the most popular spring and summer wardrobe choices around the world, yet so many women have a hard time pulling them off. Some worry that they are too petite or short, others say their waist is invisible or their proportions are totally off.

Well, I recently read that no matter how tall, short, skinny or curvy you might be, there is one set type of maxi dresses that fit us all and make our proportions look just right. Here are the three things to keep in mind while shopping for a maxi dress next time around: it should have an empire waist, short sleeves and subtle prints. It’s important to break the length and create a division/movement. Bonus: if you want to look even taller, just put your hair into an updo - it will add optically a few extra inches to your look. Da dah!

The Red Ball Chilling in Paris!

I bet that by now you probably heard about the cool Red Ball Project by Kurt Perschke, haven’t you? He is the awesome guy who places his humongous red ball in random places all around the world from Chicago, Barcelona, Sydney, the UK to even Abu Dhabi. He usually chooses those spots that are taken for granted or forgotten and a bit more unusual to create an element of surprise and to get a reaction. Well, just a few weeks ago the awesome red ball spent a few busy days Paris! Oh yes, it cruised down the Seine, rolled in for a quick cuppa to the Café Beaibourg and even got itself squeezed between the railing of the Hotel de Ville. What a gem!

I have a secret wish that one day I’ll just randomly walk down the street and spot it. Who knows where is will appear next, right? Would you fancy spotting it on your way to work?

Clone Trooper

The other morning, just out of the blue, I told Balazs that if our future child wants to wear a superhero costume to a grocery store or to the playground I would be totally happy with it. Well, my logic is that if they want to be superheroes for a day or two when they are five, so be it! And then last night I spotted this cool little dude and now I want one too (kid, not a costume) - giggle. His mom Jen said that he was saving this awesome Clone Trooper costume for the past three months and then suddenly he decided it’s time to wear it - I love that! Don't you?

Would you be ok with your child wearing a costume just because? Have you done it yourself when you were little? xo

Have you seen The Oranges? What did you think? A few days ago, Balazs and I just randomly picked this movie out, not really knowing what it is about besides that the two main characters are Hugh Laurie aka Dr. Gregory House and Leighton Meester best known from Gossip Girl. And guess what? We weren’t disappointed, actually the opposite. It’s a brilliantly written comedy drama of two dysfunctional families who happen to be neighbours and best friends.

There is an over-controlling mother, a very resistant daughter, an unhappy marriage or two, and an overachieving son, an underachieving sister, an unhappy middle aged guy and the wife who doesn’t think that life is about happiness. A perfect recipe for disaster, isn’t it? Well, besides all the messed up relationships and the devastating affair (oh yes, there is one), the film sustains the most incredible vibe of light-heartiness and wittiness. It proves that sometimes we all need just a little push out of our comfort zone to get back on track, realize and start doing what we always wanted to do or achieve. So, if you are up for a great watch after a busy day of work, this film is totally for you!

Well, according to the awesome Mr. Newton, the hairstyle that rules Paris right now, is the super loose and super soft bun piled directly on top of the head. Yup, the softer, looser and higher, the better. And what's the only rule for it to come out just right? Well, if it takes you more than 3 minutes to get it done, you’re probably doing it wrong. It should be very organic and almost careless in a way.

Oh boy, how something so dangerous and devastating can be so utterly beautiful and mind-blowing at the same time?

Yowza, Andrew and Luda are two incredibly fearless photographers who travel the world snapping photos of everything interesting, unusual and in this case super dangerous. Recently they went on an expedition to photograph the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia and its active, erupting volcano known as Tolbachik. They not only captured the magnificent molten rock flows following the eruption or the eruption itself but they also came just a few feet away from the actual steam of boiling lava and took a glimpse inside of the volcanic cave. Brave, isn’t it? Have you ever seen anything like that before? xo

Wash Your Bowl

Do you exist in the present/in the moment or do you overstimulate/rush yourself on everyday basis?

Since my 2013 goal is to simplify my life and go back to basics instead of spreading myself thin between daily tasks, I found my new ‘calm’. I used to multitask like crazy thinking that it will save me time, energy and make me be more effective. Well, remember this? I came to realize that it actually does the opposite to my life and when recently I read this little article, I discovered how important it is to not skip on steps and just let yourself fully absorb any task from start to finish before moving onto the next part of your day:

"When you’re done eating, mindfully wash your bowl. When you’re done with anything, get in the habit of pausing before moving onto the next thing, and cleaning up after yourself. Put your food away. Put your clothes where they belong. Put your keys in one spot. Clean the sink before you leave it. This simple habit will keep you mindful while saving you lots of clean-up later."

That is why I love baking so much. Each step can't be rushed and you have to give your undivided attention to each part of the baking process or otherwise your cake won’t taste great. So, I adapted the same exact rule to everything from washing my breakfast bowl after granola, to my swimming routine, to meeting friends for a drink and even to making dinner. Each part of our task is important so why not give it your full attention? Plus, the last part makes for a fantastic transition where we can reflect, absorb and be present….Simple, isn't it?

Fancy trying it for a week to see how much more relaxed and centred you will become? You will enjoy all those things so much more too - promise! What do you think, are you up for a challenge? xo

Homemade Almond Milk With a Twist

Do you drink milk? What type? Since I’m allergic to dairy milk, I mostly drink almond milk and when a while ago I started to make my own, I never looked back. Homemade almond milk tends to be so much creamers and richer than shop-bought, plus it’s pretty easy to make.

Well, plain almond milk is scrumptious but when a few weeks ago I spotted Angela's vanilla and cinnamon twist, a light bulb lit above my head :) Maybe it’s just me but that combo tastes like Christmas morning each day of the week. And let’s face it, there is no better day than Christmas morning, right? :) Have you ever made your own almond milk? (Here are great step-by-step instructions). xo

Dinner Ritual

After our little March challenge we developed a sweet routine of lighting a honey wax candle on our dining table most nights of the week, just because. I’ve never realized how something so insignificant and simple like candle-light can make an everyday mealtime so special. Darlings, what are your eating habits? Do you know how much you spend weekly on your groceries and take out’s? Do you have a well-balanced diet? I’m totally gobsmacked by those incredibly unique and eye-opening snapshots of global eating habits. It seems that the food gulf between nations is humongous!

For example, a family of four in France spends on average $416 weekly on their food, while a family of 13 in Bhutan spends only $4.95. Shocking, isn't it? Also, Italian families seem to have the most balanced diet with tons of fish, veggies, fruits and pasta. All those families are a part of Peter Menzel's book, The Hungry Planet. Peter and his wife Haith visited 30 families in 24 countries and photographed them with their weekly food purchases, including a detailed description of all the things they eat weekly. Peter hopes that his book will become our culinary atlas of the planet. So interesting, isn’t it? This project makes me look at my diet in a whole new way! xo

Have you seen the Oscar winning French film, Amour? I’d love to know your thoughts on it. I’ve been thinking all day how to sum this film up and the only words that come to my mind are heart-breaking love story!

It’s a raw, intimate, devastating, unflinching and honest portrayal of an elderly couple faced with death. The story asks many hard questions about life and to be absolutely honest, it’s one of the most moving films I’ve even seen. Even while typing this post, I get teary just thinking about it. Seeing your soul mate suffer is never easy but knowing the end is near must be devastating yet inevitable. It’s a film that initially will break your heart into millions of small pieces and make you cry uncontrollably to the point that your chest will feel all heavy, but ultimately will make you realize how amazing true love is. There is nothing better than sharing your life with someone you truly adore and when the end comes, it simply comes...but it will never outlast the true love that two people share. That lasts forever!

Would you go on a blind date?

Would you go on a blind date? About four years ago my friend, Liam was set up on a blind date by his sister. Back then, he worked in advertising and even though his job was very social, he had the hardest time finding someone that he felt a connection with. Almost 4 years on and they are happily expecting their first baby any day now. They both say that they went into the evening with an open mind, just hoping for a nice conversation. That took off tons of pressure and made them both feel comfortable.

On the other hand, my friend Sofia used to be a notorious blind-dater, but she found the one living just two floors above her :). She said that blind dates were too nerve-wracking. Each time she had that underlying feeling that it might be the one and when it didn’t work out, she was crushed. It’s amazing how the universe works.

As for me, I don’t think I’d be good blind date material but then again, it can be very exciting to meet a new person who might not turn out to be a partner, but can end up being a great friend. Do you have any funny, heart-warming or scary blind date stories?

Sassy Feet

Remember the engagement photo-shoot episode of Friends where Monica and Chandler were having their photos taken and it turned out that Chandler gets really awkward in front of a camera, with his smile becoming hilariously frozen? Well, that is totally me! I get very uneasy in front of a camera and the only photos I look nice on are those taken without me noticing. Somehow, as soon as I see a camera, my face freezes - badly!

So the other day when I stumbled upon Saksuki’s feet photo board, I figured that is exactly what I should start doing since my feet don’t mind the camera attention but my smile does. Surprisingly feet photos can be really adorable - great self-portraits with a twist:). Plus, what a perfect excuse to get a few new pairs of spring shoes, right?

Let's Tutu!

Have you heard about The Tutu Project? Since my mom had two cancer scares in the past 3 years, this incredibly sweet, heart-breaking and hilarious project touched me in a very emotional way.

In 2003, Bob Carey and his wife, Linda, moved to New York and since it was a huge change from their previous life, Bob started this little tutu project to express his feeling about the move. Unfortunately, six months later, Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer. If that wasn't enough, 2 weeks later his sister was also diagnosed. So, for the next 10 years, Bob continued his tutu adventures in hopes to raise money to help other women and make people smile :)

In his own words: ‘Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing - no, the only thing - we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others’.
