Elmer hi,

i really would recommend recreating your page from new! I know it sounds like hard work and it is but really this is the only way to go. With old FP depreciated code, you will come up against continual problems. Just as you fix one another will apear.

We can guide you, if you want but i cannot stress enought that starting over is the best way to go.

I am maintaining a site made originally with Front Page. I have copied an existing page, used it as a template, changed content in the middle, renamed it. But the code displays as code when I attempt to preview it in a browser. Is what I am trying to do even possible without using Front Page. I am pretty new at this.

Hi ghost.

Welcome to the forum.

Just check that if you have followed the tutorial you should have masterpage.html and masterstyles.css.

You will not be able to select new if you have a page open in Expression Web.

If the problem is still on going go to your Add/Remove > Expression Web > Change > Repair and see if that helps.

If you did not save the changes or for some other reason you cannot continue with the tutorial you will have to start again and this can only be good practice and in the end you will have become more comfortable with EW.

Hi tcertian thanks for your help,

it does the same with masterstyles.html,

and i cant do file new because new is dark gray now i try to reset toolbar but it dont help.

If you use an old FrontPage template you are not accomplishing anything. The code is deprecated and sooner or later the browsers are not going to support it.

Make a new template (Dynamic Web Template) You can use your old images, but if you cut and paste, make sure nothing but the text is copied into the new template. EW has a paste with options or you can copy it to notepad (which strips the code) and then copy from notepad to EW

Are you talking about the stylesheet masterpage.css?
If you want code, design or split you are going to have to click a page with .htm or .dwt or .aspx

Stylesheets are all text and do not have "windows"

Glad it worked this time. Floats always have to have a clearing paragraph or div. When a float is used, it takes it out of the natural flow. The clearing element just makes the flow right again. Inside a floated div, a clear will push any background and borders down as far as the text or image will push it, it just has to be the last element inside the div

Hi i was doing the tutorial part 3b create the link style when i had to move from the pc so i clicked exit and never saved it now when i open expression web and double click masterpage.css it dont do nothing i cant view my code, design, or splite.

sorry if my problem is easy to fix im new to all this.
