Many mind tricks are more than just tricks. They are creative techniques for tapping into the power of your mind. They entertain, but they also have more practical uses. A good example is the "pupil trick."

Look in the mirror and watch your eyes as you vividly imagine something pleasurable. It can be a beautiful scene, your favorite naked body, or anything else that will create desire in you. You'll notice your pupils getting larger almost immediately. If you practice a bit, you can make your pupils instantly larger at will.

Pupils enlarge when you are aroused, interested and receptive. When you are with someone and your pupils dilate, the person you are talking to subconsciously senses your interest in them or what they are saying, and they like that. This makes it easier for them to like you, and to listen to what you suggest. You don't have to be a salesman to take advantage of this. A Mental Math Trick

As a young boy in school, I didn't "show my work" in math class. In my figuring, 97 x 16 became 100 x 16 (1600) minus 3 x 16 (48). It was easier that way, and almost automatic, so I would just write down 1552 even though I couldn't explain very well how I arrived at the answer. For my teachers this was a problem, but many years later such math shortcuts were sold in seminars and books. You might want to learn a few of your own.

A Memory Trick

Suppose you need to remember the following list: Soap, milk, honey, fork, and flowers. Just start a vivid story in your imagination, adding items to it as you go: At the sink, reach for the SOAP, and find the soap dish full of MILK. Wash your hands with that, and then comb HONEY into your hair with a FORK. Finally, pick up a bouquet of FLOWERS and smile at the mirror. Repeat each item while mentally reviewing your "movie," and you'll remember all five things, even the next day.

Mind Tricks For Motivation

To get yourself motivated, talk about your plans. This is a simple, yet powerful mind trick. By the time I tell my wife about the newsletter I'm going to write, I'm out of my slump and back at the keyboard. You can quickly change your state of mind, but not by willing it to change. That would be like trying to ride a bicycle without pedaling. There is a mechanical aspect to the mind that can't be ignored. That is what these techniques tap into.

To help a friend out of a bad mood, get them to talk. More specifically, get your friend to explain something to you that they are passionate about. The process literally will change the chemicals in their brain, and so change their state of mind. When you find the topics that work best, remember them for future use.

Reading Minds - What Is Mentalism, and How Can You Perform It?

Many people have heard of mentalism, but few know exactly what is involved. So let's start with a clear definition.

Mentalism is defined as a sub-category within the field of magic. It has to do with tricks dealing with the mind's power. Rather than relying heavily on tools or grand illusions, it has more to do with try to give the impression that the magician can tap into the minds of audience members, or use his or her own mind control to cause objects to move, etc.

Some people think that mentalism actually depends on some spiritual connection between the supernatural realm and the magician. While there might be a very remote possibility that some magicians actually do have some insight into the spiritual world, most illusionists use mentalism tricks and strategies just like in any other type of magic. Over the next few pages you'll learn some of them!

For example, remember at the beginning of this course when we talked about Derren Brown and his ability to make people fall asleep over the phone? It's not that he actually has the power to control other people's minds - he just knows tricks to get people to do what he says.

There is definitely a difference between the two. Derren isn't dabbling in the occult or anything like that; rather, he's using human psychology to create intriguing and mystifying illusions!

A Brief Explanation of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is one very highly popular form of mentalism. Psychiatrists actually regard hypnosis as an everyday activity or state that we undergo when we are watching movies, reading books, or driving down a long empty road. When we are doing these sorts of activities we enter a trancelike condition in which we are very vulnerable to the power of suggestion and feel extremely relaxed.

Some people are mistakenly under the impression that hypnosis is like being asleep, but it's actually a hyperaware, hyperattentive state. It's also a state of total consciousness.

You know how when you get engrossed in a book you tune out the outside world, paying attention only to the story itself? It's similar to that. You're tuning out extraneous stimuli and focusing in only on one source, the subject or magician who is speaking directly to you. Thus you are very likely to do whatever the magician tells you to do when you're in a hypnotic state!

persons eyes.

By watching what they are watching, you can learn a lot about people. What kind of women does a man look at? Does he pay

any attention to the game on the TV? Note whether he seems bored or interested as he looks at different things.

Eye watching tricks - part two. You can tell what people's minds are doing when they are thinking or asked to remember

something, according to neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) practitioners. This following is true for most right handed people

(reverse all this for left-handed people): As you face them, and their eyes go...

Up and to the right - They are remembering a visual image.

Up and to the left - They are constructing a visual image.

To the right - They are remembering sounds or conversation.

To the left - The are constructing sounds or conversations.

Down and to the right - They are in an internal dialog.

Down and to the left - They are accessing kinesthetic feelings, tastes and smells.

Eye Tricks And The Opposite Sex

A persons pupils get bigger when they are aroused, interested and/or receptive. If you look into his or her eyes and see

those pupils growing large - it's looking good for you. Basically big pupils (unless it's just dark) mean a person likes what

they see.

It isn't just what you see, though, but what you imagine too. Try an experiment to understand how immediate this effect

can be. Go right now and look in the mirror at your own eyes. As you look at them, imagine a sexy man or woman you are

attracted to - in whatever way would turn you on.

You'll see that your pupils get bigger in just seconds. Actually, if you love to fish, they may get big just thinking

about a lake you love. Imagining anything you like to look at can make your pupils bigger.

You'll find that you can quickly train yourself to change your pupil size at will. Just find a mental image or two that

gets them really big, and use these as necessary. Look at a light briefly when you want to shrink your pupils back down. Now,

how do you use this eye trick?

First, understand that we all unconsciously use little clues like pupil size as we interact with people. We are affected

by people's body language even when we haven't yet learned to identify it. There are reasons why we are attracted to a

person, even when we don't know what those reasons are.

In other words - the person in front of you will unconsciously pick upon your enlarging pupils. They will unconsciously

take this to mean that you like them, and for many people, this will make them like you more. By enlarging your pupils at

will, you can effectively establish rapport more quickly. This is one of the easier subliminal eye tricks.

Do You Believe In Magic?

Magic has been much a part of childhood. Remember how you used to be amazed of David Copperfield's magic on TV or even on a local magic show in a carnival or a children's party. No matter how old you get, magic will continue to amaze you. It is an unknown mystery that people are completely drawn to.

But if you are thinking of starting a career in magic, the best way is to start early. In case your not, it's never to late to start but will take you a little harder. You can make your first step by buying your first magic trick box and learn the basic magic tricks from cards, coins to threads and other a little complicated magic tricks. Though this may sound so elementary for you, this is still the best introduction to magic you can find. The box, however, will not tell you how to act in front of an audience. You have to make your own efforts and initiatives. A good way to learn this is by watching magic shows and observe how the masters do their tricks in front of an audience.

If you have been doing your homework, then you will observe that the masters do the top 3 things while performing magic in front of an audience:

1. Do a nice patter - this means that you should put your act well by pulling some appropriate dialogue to perform your magic trick. Learn some jokes, ask your audience some questions and use a lot of hand movements. This will make them distracted but focused on you instead of finding out how you did the magic. A magic show can turn into a theatrical event if you want it to become one. This is not as easy as you think and you will not get by just a few practices and watching the masters do it.

You need a lot of effort, discipline and ability on your part and of course countless practice. To guide you in this trick you should remember and follow religiously two things: a) maintain eye contact with your spectator. Be sure that you have your spectators\' attention only to you and listening to whatever you say; b) it pays if you have a sense of humor because it makes your audience feel relaxed and conditions them only to be caught off guard of what you have to perform.

2. The after effect - after wowing your audience with your act, let them continue their amazement with your trick, let them continuously react to your next tricks. Do not make them lose their attention to you and most importantly, do not say anything. If they asked you how you did that just remain quiet. Never pull the plug and give away your act or else all the mystery will fade away.

3. Be confident - Never perform in an audience if you know that you are not yet ready. Nervousness can easily give your trick away. A lot of practice breeds confidence. You need to convince your audience that not only your trick is magical but you as well.

If you master all these techniques, it will be much easier for you to win your audience - kids or adults. You can even go from up close magic to platform magic and stage magic like what Copperfield does but of course that requires a lot of experience and expertise plus a lot of help from cameras.

The key to being a master magician is to learn how to perform magic in an instant using a lot of borrowed objects. Magic is just a quarter of your trick but how you do your trick is the most important. Your presentation in front of an audience is the key not some spectacular, complicated magic.
More help is on your way if you know where to find it Check out some magic shops nearby your area. Make a list of the tricks you wanted to learn and bring them to the shop. Ask the owner to perform some on your list, teach you how and try it in front of him. Practice them in front of mirror as soon as you go home. You will be amazed at how fast you can do all these tricks.

If you think you are ready for an audience, organize and host a party and perform your magic for free. If your confident enough, there is a lot of possibility that some will ask you to perform in an event or another party, be ready to market yourself and hand out business cards.

Now, that is how you get started in the field of magic.

1. Penetration. Includes passing of a foam ball through a cup, joining of two steel rings that appear to have no gap in the link, etc.

2. Restoration. Includes a person sawn in half and then rejoined, the newspaper torn to bits and then reformed, a line cut in half and reunited, etc.

3. Transformation. Includes mainly card tricks. Many variations, but usually when an audience member picks a card and the magician guesses the card or does some amazing misdirection to include "changing" the card, "placing" the card in a different location, etc.

4.Teleportation. These tricks are very popular and involve an object is transferred from one place to another with no obvious link between the two. Disappearing magician to appear in the crowd, vanishing large equipment, moving a coin from one box to another, etc.

5. Production. Think: pulling a rabbit out of a hat. This category involves anything where the magician pulls something out of thin air. About the oldest trick in the book.

6. Levitation. Involves the mysterious lift of objects vertically off surfaces. Raising the assistant into the air, raising cards, raising coins, etc.

Today's eye mind tricks post deals with me getting floored!

I was pawing thru google a few minutes ago and typed in jedi mind tricks to see what popped up.

OOPS. Turns out that there is a site of that name dot com and in going there I was enlightened. It is the name of a fairly underground group with the name Jedi Mind Tricks. The pictures of the individual band members would frighten most anyone if you were walking within a block of them during daylight.

Strange things you find on google. We won't be venturing there, but will stay more in line with illusions, mind reading, etc.

Just had to let you know.

Today's eye mind tricks post deals with a simple but fail proof way to "read minds". It is a mind trick done using a deck of cards. There are two parts for it, but I will give you the second part, the part you go to if the initial trick doesn't go as planned.

Briefly, you have told someone to think of a card and done your best to steer him to think of a particular card. You ask him what the card is and he tells you a different card than you have placed in your pocket. So you say to him, "That's just what I was mind controlling you to say." He is not buying that you knew. You tell him that before you left home, you told your wife what the card was (the card he picked).

So you get on the phone. To him it looks like it is ringing a while, then you say, "Hello, Sue. Yes, I am here with Dan and he wants to talk to you."

What really happened during that time, is that when Dan thought the phone was ringing, Sue had already picked up as pre-briefed and started listing the value of cards Two, Three, Four, etc. When you said "Hello Sue." She stopped on the value of the card. Then she started going through the suits Spade, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs. When you said "Yes, I'm here...." She knew the suit and when Dan gets on the line can tell him his exact card.

Simple eye mind trick and VERY effective.
