Along with the usual festive quests and Wintersday games, some new features are available this year.

Characters now have costume slots, and costumes can be purchased from both the Guild Wars In-Game Store and the NCSoft Store. Additionally, costumes now no longer replace your armour slots:

Costume slots have been added to the character portrait. Now, you can wear costumes over your armor, meaning you can look fabulous in your Dwayna costume or festival hat without sacrificing protection!

This time, the video showcases the different playable races that will be available in the next Guild Wars game.



Guild War 2 will feature 5 playable races – Humans, Asura, Charr, Sylvari and Norn. It will be interesting to see how the differences between the races change the actual gameplay.

A new boss has been added to the Underworld, designed to test players to the limit.

Something stirs in the Underworld. Something ancient, powerful, and utterly evil: Dhuum. Banished eons ago by Grenth, this dark avatar of death has bided his time and grown in power. Now, Dhuum is free! We’ve added this terrifying new end boss to the Underworld—face him if you dare.

According to Guild Wars lore, Dhuum was the god of death before Grenth, and he’s been mentioned in this context in quests like “The Four Horsemen” and “Gate of Torment”.

Hints about Dhuum have been dropped in previous quests – “Don’t Fear the Reapers” reveals that Dhuum is sealed in the Hall of Judgement in the Ice Wastes of the Underworld.

Dhuum appears to have attracted Titans as his minions (those that remained after the defeat of Abaddon at the end of Nightfall), along with Riders of Dhuum and Emissaries of Dhuum.

This looks like a fun update to Guild Wars, and given how tricky questing in the Underworld can be, this could prove a real test for even the most experienced characters.

The Halloween festivities will kick off this Friday 23rd October, with all the special Halloween events from previous years.

An extra for this year is the emergence of a new evil in the Underworld – talking to the Mad King’s Steward in either Kamadan or Lion’s Arch will unlock these new, challenging quests – only available in the Underworld during the Halloween celebrations.

The calendar of events includes:

  • Friday, October 23: The Halloween celebration begins at Noon Pacific time! The cities of Lion’s Arch and Kamadan and the towns of Droknar’s Forge and the Tomb of the Primeval Kings are decorated with dreadful décor. The Costume Brawl starts today! Halloween NPCs make their appearance in Lion’s Arch and Kamadan.
  • Monday, October 26: The new series of Halloween quests starts in Lion’s Arch and Kamadan. Speak with the Mad King’s Steward to begin your adventure! Remember, these quests are only available this year, so be sure to complete them while you can!
  • Saturday, October 31: Mad King Thorn appears every three hours in Lion’s Arch and Kamadan—all day! Participate in his events to receive this year’s Halloween masks. Remember—the Mad King rewards participants in both cities with a different mask, so be sure to attend at least one of his events in both Lion’s Arch and Kamadan to get both!
  • Monday, November 2: The seasonal festivities conclude at 7am GMT

Also announced is a 25% reduction in Xunlai storage pane upgrades:

There’s never been a better time to expand your storage!  Xunlai Storage Panes are 25% off from October 7th through November 1st. Visit the Guild Wars In-Game Store or the NCsoft Store to take advantage of this limited time offer!

I know I’m starting to run out of storage, as the amount of unique and rare items starts to pile up – and there’s only so much you can give to Guild members or sell on.

Double Faction will automatically take effect during the weekend, and the Xunlai upgrades can be purchased either from the NCSoft store, or from the in-game Guild Wars store.
