Brooklyn Brewmaster's Reserve Mary's Maple Porter Rare Beer Tuesday (2/21)
As most of you know, every Tuesday at 5pm we tap a rare and special keg for growler fills. This week's feature is from the ultra-hard-to-get and draft-only Brewmaster's Reserve line from Brooklyn Brewery. We're thrilled to announce that we'll be tapping Mary's Maple Porter tomorrow night! This is a 7.5% ABV porter brewed with New York State maple syrup - amazing! Please click here to read all the details. We're very excited and we hope to see you all at CBX filling up your growlers!

Brewvival Weekend Hours
On Saturday, February 25th, The Charleston Beer Exchange will be open from 3pm-9pm instead of our normal hours of 11am-9pm due to Brewvival, the beer festival we put on with COAST Brewing. We will be open normal hours all other days, which are Monday-Saturday 11am-9pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm.

Brewvival is almost upon us! If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, what are you waiting for? Tickets are limited and at the rate they are selling the festival will be sold out in advance so stop procrastinating, we don't like seeing sad faces! They can be purchased through the Brewvival website at www.brewvival.com (where you can also find additional information) with a credit card, or CASH ONLY at The Charleston Beer Exchange or COAST Brewing Company. La Folie Bottle Signing/Free Tasting with New Belgium Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert (2/24)
Yes, you read that correctly! Please join us on Friday, February 24th from 4-5pm for a special meet 'n greet with New Belgium Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert! Peter will be on hand to talk about all things New Belgium, including one of their most loved beers, La Folie, which we will be sampling for free! Also, we will be selling growlers of La Folie and bottles which Peter can sign for you if you desire! See you there!

Green Flash Launch Party/Meet 'n Greet/Free Tasting (2/24)
OK! So right after the New Belgium event, we'll be rolling out the South Carolina debut of Green Flash Brewing Co. from 5-6pm! We will have Jim Kenny (Director of Sales), and Chuck Silva (Brewmaster) on hand to discuss their wonderful brewery and we'll be pouring samples and filling growlers of some extra special Green Flash beers! More details to follow!

Rare Beer Tuesday: Thirsty Dog Bourbon Barrel Aged Cerberus (2/7)
We're following up last week's terrific Bourbon barrel-aged hit from Thirsty Dog with another decadent beauty! This time, Thristy Dog Brewing took their ever-popular Belgian-style Tripel called "Cerberus" and generously aged it in Bourbon barrels imparting delicious notes of vanilla, oak, honey and of course Bourbon in to this already elegant masterpiece. At a healthy 10% ABV, this deceptively smooth beer will sneak up on you so be prepared! This special version is very rare/limited and you'd be wise not to miss it. Tapped at 5pm and available in all 3 sized growlers, first come first serve!

Our featured charity partner for the first quarter of 2012 is East Cooper Community Outreach, a local non-profit organization that provides emergency services to low income residents in our community. All of ECCO's services - including medical and dental services and assistance, a food pantry, counseling and more - strive to guide clients towards self-sufficiency. Greetings!

We hope everyone is in good spirits at the beginning of another wonderful Holiday Season! We have some great things happening this week!

Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus "Rare Beer Tuesday" (12/19) Yes, that is a very long, strange name - we agree. The cool part is that this beer is an absolute store favorite! This is for all you sour beer fans out there! Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus is a 3% ABV Berliner Weisse that is very sour, deliciously complex and immensely refreshing. If you're not familiar with Berliner Weisse, please click here for the fascinating history and explanation of the style. We've had bottles on and off for the last year or so, but this is the first time we've been able to get a keg, so get on down here tomorrow at 5pm for a growler fill!

We'll also be tapping some rare and delicious holiday-oriented kegs for growler fills throughout the week that are sure to please, so keep an eye on facebook and Twitter for real time updates and remember you can always see what's live on our growler station by visiting our website and clicking the "News/Growlers" tab!

I don't know about you, but this would certainly slow me down!

People slow down and actually try to "straddle" the hole.

This is an actual speed control device that is currently in use.

It is MUCH cheaper than speed cameras, radar guns, police officers, etc.

Pretty clever -- especially when they move them around every day.

GOD said: "Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the dandelions, violets, milkweeds and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by now. But, all I see are these green rectangles.."

ST. FRANCIS:
It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers 'weeds' and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

GOD:
Grass? But, it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees; only grubs and sod worms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there?

ST. FRANCIS:
Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn.

GOD:
The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy.

ST. FRANCIS:
Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it--sometimes twice a week.

GOD:
They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay?

ST. FRANCIS:
Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags.

GOD:
They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

ST. FRANCIS:
No, Sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

GOD:
Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And, when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away?

ST. FRANCIS:
Yes, Sir.

GOD:
These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

ST. FRANCIS:
You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it, so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it.

GOD:
What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn, they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. It's a natural cycle of life.

ST. FRANCIS:
You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

GOD:
No! What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose?

ST. FRANCIS:
After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves.

GOD:
And where do they get this mulch?

ST. FRANCIS:
They cut down trees and grind them up.

GOD:
Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you got for us tonight?

ST. CATHERINE:
'Dumb and Dumber,' Lord. It's a story about...

GOD:
Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.

Finger Monkeys

The finger monkey is the tiniest living primate in the world, so small that it can hold onto your finger. These primates belong to the family Callitrichidae, species Cebuella, and genus C. Pygmaea. They are native to rain forests of Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia (source: Buzzle).

If it wasn't for the Internet, would you have ever seen or known about these little creatures?

Finger monkeys are, as a matter of fact, pygmy marmosets. They are also known by the names "pocket monkey" and "tiny lion."

This cute little primate hugs and grips onto your finger so tightly that it pulls your heart strings, and you wish you could take it home with you.
