We have a great week of beery wonders ahead at The Charleston Beer Exchange!

Terrapin Samurai Krunkles Growler Feature (8/28)
Tomorrow (Tuesday 8/28) at 5pm we'll be tapping the latest Side Project beer from Terrapin Beer Co. for growler fills! This one is called Samurai Krunkles and it is an extraordinarily unique IPA made with Ginger and Green Tea! Here's what the brewery has to say about this beer:

"Taking the Orient and the rest of the world by storm, Krunkles returns! In this edition of the bearded IPA brewer's saga, "Samurai Krunkles," as he was once known in the Far East, pulls out all the hops from his katana's sheath to make this Asian flared brew. While traveling around the Pacific in a souped up rickshaw pulled by his trusty side kick Cato, Krunkles uncovered unique brewing ingredients such as jasmine rice, jasmine green tea and the finest ginger the Orient had to offer for this Samurai master's ale. $18, Monterey County, CA

Blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Grenache from central and southern Monterey County. This Rhone-style blend has a rich ruby red color, highlighted with purple edges. Blackberry pie, boysenberry and violet aromas jump out of the glass. The wine is medium-bodied with soft tannins; it offers a mouthful of dried cherry, pear and blackberry flavors. Its weight and balance make it a perfect pairing with anything off the grill.

Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viognier,

The 2011 bottling of this distinctive blend opens with a dazzling spectrum of fruit and floral aromas, from crisp white peach, honeyed pear and sweet mango, to touches of fresh jasmine blossom and white chai tea. Filled with bright and juicy fruits, the palate flaunts flavors of succulent white nectarine, candied pineapple, green fig and subtle grapefruit.

This month, we're proud to formally introduce our new Chef, Brian Parkhurst. Brian has been at the helm in the kitchen since May, and as you may have noticed, he's been making his mark with some great new items in the case and on the menu. From housemade pates, pickled vegetables and special sandwiches to pretty much anything on the Big Green Egg, Brian is passionate about the food he's creating at Ted's. Originally from Illinois, he came to Charleston to attend Johnston & Wales University, and his local experience since graduating includes stints at Peninsula Grill, Mercato, Al di La, Fulton Five and Cru Catering.

ULTIMATE BURGER SATURDAYS!

Starting this Saturday at noon, we'll be firing up the Big Green Egg each week and offering an "Ultimate Burger," available in limited quantity. The recipes will be inspired by our favorite burgers from our travels, featuring hand-ground Painted Hills Beef and special buns. It all starts this Saturday with a mustard-crusted burger inspired by In-and-Out Burger's private menu. Available starting at noon until they're gone. Come early to ensure you'll get a taste of this week's Ultimate Burger!

INTRODUCING THE BIG SANDWICH

We start with a freshly-baked 42-inch baguette, and carefully layer it with Black Forest ham, fennel salami, hot soppressata, mortadella and aged provolone, then top it with romaine lettuce, tomato, shaved red onion, hard-boiled egg, dried basil and oregano, oil and vinegar. It's an irresistible combination, and you can only get a taste on Wednesdays, when we'll be offering slices of The Big Sandwich at lunchtime for $11 - get it while it lasts!

The whole Big Sandwich, which serves 8-12 people, is also available for catering with 48 hours advance notice for $80.

Tomorrow is Tuesday! That means we tap a rare keg for growler fills at 5pm! Tomorrow's feature is a beer from Terrapin's Side Project line called Phlux Capacitor. It is a 9.7% ABV Oak-Aged American Strong Ale that is full of deep malty notes of caramel, vanilla, oak and dark fruits. Finding this beer in draft form around these parts is hard to do so we're excited to bring you this treat! Come down at 5pm to get your growlers filled!

Vanberg & DeWulf Free Belgian Beer Tasting (7/21)
This Saturday, July 21st from 2-4pm we'll be hosting Lauren Shor of Vandberg & DeWulf for a free tasting of delicious Belgian beers from her company's portfolio! Hello friends!

We've got another fun week of beer activities for you!

Founders Devil Dancer Rare Beer Tuesday (6/10)
As most of you know, we always have 9 beers on our growler station, but every Tuesday at 5pm we tap a rare keg for growler fills. Tomorrow at 5pm we tap Founders Devil Dancer Triple IPA! We're absolutely thrilled to have Founders Brewing Company back in SC and Devil Dancer is one of the most asked for beers that they make! Coming in at 12% ABV, it's brewed once a year and is definitely one of the biggest and hoppiest imperial IPAs out there! We have a very limited supply of this beer on draft so we will be filling 32oz growlers only tomorrow. Please come down as close to 5pm as possible to ensure you get a fill of this treat!

Cask of Bells Two Hearted at Ted's Butcherblock (7/12)
Please come out and join us on 7/12 starting at 6pm at Ted's Butcherblock for their monthly cask event! They'll be tapping a firkin of Bells Two Hearted IPA and will have delicious food to accompany! Please click here for more info and we hope to see you there!

"Brett & No Mices" Bottle Signing at Westbrook Brewing (7/13)
This Friday the 13th from 4-6pm at Westbrook Brewing, the one and only Brandon "Old Time" Plyler will be on hand to sign bottles of the beer that was named after his classic mispronunciation of the word Brettanomyces! To hear the correct pronunciation of the word (which Old Time just heard me play and disagrees with), please click here! This will be the brewery's bottle release of this beer and we'll have bottles in the store sometime in the days to follow. Westbrook will also tap a firkin of their Amarillo Rye Pale ale with kumquats! This is surely not to be missed - come have your picture taken with Old Time and ask him to pronounce Brettanomyces!

Avery Mephistopheles for Rare Beer Tuesday (5/1)
Tomorrow is Tuesday and you know what that means: CBX are bringing you something extra awesome on the growler station at 5pm! Tomorrow's feature is 2010 Avery Mephistopheles! This is a 15.95% ABV Imperial Stout that is as complex as they come. Hints of dark fruits, espresso and everything else dark and delicious can be found in this beauty! Finding this beer in its draft form is not easy these days, and they're happy to have it as their special this week. They will be filling 32oz growlers ONLY of this beast. A Big Week of Free Tasting Events at CBX!

MONDAY: Smuttynose FREE Tasting/Growler Filling Event (4/23)
Please join us tomorrow, Monday 4/23 from 5-7pm for a FREE Beer Tasting/Growler Filling event with Smuttynose Brewing Co., out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire! On the growler station will be Smuttynose Really Old Brown Dog, a beautiful 10% ABV malty rich brown ale aged on medium toast oak chips! (Not to be confused with the regular "Old Brown Dog Ale".) This is a store favorite and is asked for often by very enthusiastic customers as well! We'll also be tapping Smuttynose Summer Weizen, a 5.5% ABV crisp light refreshing summer wheat beer! Glenn Bulloss, Smuttynose's Mid-Atlantic Field Manager will be on hand to talk about all things Smuttynose, and may even have a few free giveaway goodies! Again, both beers will be tapped at 5pm and we'll be giving free samples until 7pm. The beers will be on the growler station until they're gone, likely after 7pm. See you there!

TUESDAY: Sweetwater FREE Cask Tasting/Growler Filling Event (4/24)
We will be tapping our very own award winning cask of "Nuttin' Butter", a peanut butter and jelly inspired brown ale that won first place at Sweetwater's Brew Your Cask Off event last month!

WEDNESDAY: Dogfish Head FREE Tasting/Growler Filling Event (4/25)
Everybody loves Aprihop IPA but how about Aprihop "randallized" through a chamber of apricots and whole leaf Calypso hops... Yeah we thought so, see you there!

As usual, we have some fun CBX beer news for you this week!

Foothills Sexual Chocolate for Rare Beer Tuesday (3/27)
Oh yes! It's true! We're thrilled to have Foothills Brewing Company back in SC and what better way to celebrate than to tap a keg of their most famous and sought-after beer! Foothills Sexual Chocolate is a 10% ABV cocoa infused Imperial Stout that is as good as the name implies! We're tapping this beauty for 32oz growler fills (only) tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm. There will be a limit of one 32oz growler fill per person. We cannot fill any in advance or hold any for later pick-up or accept payment over the phone. This will be first-come first-served and we don't expect it to last long, so please be here at 5pm to secure your fill!

Holy City Brewing Dinner at HoM (3/28)

Sierra Nevada/Dogfish Head Life & Limb for Rare Beer Tuesday (3/6)
As most of you know, we always have 9 beers available on our growler station, but every Tuesday at 5pm we tap a rare keg for growler fills and call it "Rare Beer Tuesday"! Get it? So tomorrow at 5pm we're tapping a wonderful beer that was a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head! The beer is called Life & Limb, and it is a store favorite! It is a delicious 10% ABV strong, dark, malty ale brewed with maple syrup! Bottles have been gone for some time and we held on to the draft form for this very occasion! Barrel Aged Ballast Point Rare Beer Tuesday (2/28)
For our weekly, Tuesday-at-5pm installment of rare draft beer growler fill goodness we'll be breaking out something special that we've been saving for just the right occasion. Well that occasion is tomorrow (make up whatever fake holiday you wish). As if a rarely seen Ballast Point Scottish Ale offering wasn't enough, how about a special version of that beer aged in used Bourbon barrels? Ballast Point Bourbon Barrel Aged Piper Down Scottish Ale was matured for over 5 months in Heaven Hill and Old Fitzgerald barrels to create delicious notes of oak, vanilla and all around bourbony deliciousness! Due to the extremely limited nature of this beer, we'll be offering it in 32oz fills only and may limit it to one per person.

Widmer Brewer Meet and Greet, Free Tasting, Glass Giveaway (3/1)
This Thursday from 5pm to 7pm join us as we welcome Ben Dobler, a head brewer from Widmer Brothers, and Sales Manager Chris Squire to CBX for a special meet and greet, free tasting event! We'll have three special beers on the growler station: 2011 Barrel Aged Brrrbon, Lemongrass Wheat (brewed with Muscat), and Spiced IPA! All three of these will be available for both free tastes as well as 32oz growler fills. What's even more exciting is with every 32oz growler fill you'll get a free Widmer glass! This will be a great opportunity to taste some great stuff, hang out with great people and get some free stuff! See you there! (Brrrbon and Lemongrass Wheat will be limited to 32oz growlers only, Spiced IPA will also be available in 64oz fills. There are no guarantees how long these limited quantity beers will last but we will have enough glasses to give them away until the beer is gone.)

TedFiesta: Annual Locals Block Party at Ted's Butcherblock (3/3)
Come celebrate Charleston's culinary culture locals-style at Ted's annual Block Party, featuring great food, craft beer and live music by local favorites, The Bushels. On the menu this year: A Carnitas Taco Bar, accompanied by tamales and sides for just $12/plate. They'll be pouring craft beer for $4, or try your luck with "Crap or Craft" Mystery Beers for $3. Brooklyn Brewmaster's Reserve Mary's Maple Porter Rare Beer Tuesday (2/21)
As most of you know, every Tuesday at 5pm we tap a rare and special keg for growler fills. This week's feature is from the ultra-hard-to-get and draft-only Brewmaster's Reserve line from Brooklyn Brewery. We're thrilled to announce that we'll be tapping Mary's Maple Porter tomorrow night! This is a 7.5% ABV porter brewed with New York State maple syrup - amazing! Please click here to read all the details. We're very excited and we hope to see you all at CBX filling up your growlers!

Brewvival Weekend Hours
On Saturday, February 25th, The Charleston Beer Exchange will be open from 3pm-9pm instead of our normal hours of 11am-9pm due to Brewvival, the beer festival we put on with COAST Brewing. We will be open normal hours all other days, which are Monday-Saturday 11am-9pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm.

Brewvival is almost upon us! If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, what are you waiting for? Tickets are limited and at the rate they are selling the festival will be sold out in advance so stop procrastinating, we don't like seeing sad faces! La Folie Bottle Signing/Free Tasting with New Belgium Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert (2/24)
Yes, you read that correctly! Please join us on Friday, February 24th from 4-5pm for a special meet 'n greet with New Belgium Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert! Peter will be on hand to talk about all things New Belgium, including one of their most loved beers, La Folie, which we will be sampling for free! Also, we will be selling growlers of La Folie and bottles which Peter can sign for you if you desire! See you there!

Green Flash Launch Party/Meet 'n Greet/Free Tasting (2/24)
OK! So right after the New Belgium event, we'll be rolling out the South Carolina debut of Green Flash Brewing Co. from 5-6pm! We will have Jim Kenny (Director of Sales), and Chuck Silva (Brewmaster) on hand to discuss their wonderful brewery and we'll be pouring samples and filling growlers of some extra special Green Flash beers! Rare Beer Tuesday: Thirsty Dog Bourbon Barrel Aged Cerberus (2/7)
We're following up last week's terrific Bourbon barrel-aged hit from Thirsty Dog with another decadent beauty! This time, Thristy Dog Brewing took their ever-popular Belgian-style Tripel called "Cerberus" and generously aged it in Bourbon barrels imparting delicious notes of vanilla, oak, honey and of course Bourbon in to this already elegant masterpiece. At a healthy 10% ABV, this deceptively smooth beer will sneak up on you so be prepared! This special version is very rare/limited and you'd be wise not to miss it. Tapped at 5pm and available in all 3 sized growlers, first come first serve!
