Adsense What?

Adsense is Google’s advertising placement service. When you sign up with Adsense, you will be able to place banner and text ads on your website. When someone clicks on an ad, you earn at least a single cent.

First Things First

Before you sign up with Adsense, first, you must have a website of your own. Without a website, there’s no way you can put an ad on the Web.

Why Now Is Important

If your website is new, it will take 3 months or so before your site is indexed for Google search. If your site is not indexed, it won’t show up on Google’s search pages. In other words, your new site will not be searchable yet. That is why now is important. The longer you delay, the more time is wasted.

A Collection Of Tips That Make Sense

Few is better. Don’t clutter your website with so many ads. Site visitors tend to ignore a battery of ads.
One ad is best if it is in the right place.
Traffic to your site is essential. If there are thousands of people who read your site every day, there is a greater chance that even a few of them will click an ad. No site visitor, no click.
Sitemaps put your site on the map (which refers to the search engine results page or SERP). Don’t worry about this now. If you follow me, your sitemap will be taken care of automatically.
Don’t worry about the type of ads that appear on your site. The ads that appear on your site depend on your site’s content and user experience.

There is future in blogging for authors. Once you have published, perhaps a hundred posts, you can transform your blog into a book or ebook. Organize your contents, group them into related topics, and create the chapters of your book. If your material is good and very original, a publisher might be interested to print, market and distribute it. Another option is to publish it online.

Ways to Write An Ebook

There are 3 common ways to write an e-book.

Write your own e-book. This means, you are the author. Your name is on it.
Co-author an e-book. You and another author write the e-book. You can sell them jointly or separately.
Compile a publication. Gather materials from different publications and compile them into one e-book. You can only do this with proper permission from the rightful authors. They should be properly credited and acknowledged. In return for publishing their materials, you allow them to advertise their own work, products, or websites.

Possible Resources of eBook's Content

Where can you get contents for your e-book? There are numerous resources where you can get content for your e-book.

Your own knowledge. Write into words whatever you know that is materially good. You can transform your hobbies, skills, and studies into a book form. You can write about your travel and the places you have been to. You can also write the people you have encountered and the experiences you have learned from each encounter. Research. You can make your own research, study, and analysis. Collect information and organize them.
Transcribe somebody else's audio or video and compose an equivalent ebook for the original owners of the audio or video.

Ways To Earn Money From Your E-book

There are a variety of ways you can earn from you e-book. Yes, your e-book can be an income generator. Here I list 9 possible ways your e-book can generate income for you.

Sell it online. Advertise your e-book on your website. Provide a payment gateway, like PayPal, and a download page where your customers can download your e-book.
Let others sell it online. This means to allow other people to market and sell your e-book. In exchange, you give your them a commission for every sale they made.
Sell it through affiliates, also called affiliate marketing. Signup for a marketing network like ClickBank. Your e-book will be available to thousands of affiliates. (700,000 affiliates according to cd-analytics.com). Any one of them can be interested to sell your ebook. In return, you give them a commission every item sold.
Sell reprint rights. You can allow other people to reprint your e-book and let them sell it at any price they wish. In exchange, you get to advertise your other products in the ebook. These products may be another affiliate product or your own product.
Give away your e-book for free. Like in selling reprint rights, before you give away your e-book, it should already contain the other products that you intend to sell.
Give away or sell a branded copy of your ebook. In this case, your ebook is rebranded. It is given a new title and a new look. Some contents may be added, updated, or deleted.
Accommodate advertisements from 3rd parties. Your e-book may contain ads and links that lead to the ads' sales pages.
You can also package your e-book with other products – your own products or other 3rd party products.
Trade your e-book with someone else's product, which may not necessarily an e-book as well. This way you get to sell a second product other than your own.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

I mentioned that one of the ways your ebook can earn money for you is through affiliate marketing. Let me just discuss that briefly.

Affiliate marketing is a form or method of marketing, promoting and selling products online or even outside the Internet, and being paid for every sale in a form of a commission. In affiliate marketing, the affiliates, also referred to as publishers, market and promote your products in whatever legal and ethical manner like online advertising or email subscription. If they make any sale, you pay them a commission.

Affiliate marketing follows certain methods called affiliate programs. The most common is single-tier.

Single-tier. In a single-tier program, an affiliate earns a commission for every sale he directly makes. If the buyer asked for a refund, he does not earn a commission.
Two-tier. In a two-tier program, an affiliate is also credited for recruiting another affiliate, who becomes his sub-affiliate. Not only that he earns a commission for every sale he directly makes, but he also earns a smaller commission for every sale that his sub-affiliates make. In some two-tier programs, an affiliate receives a bonus for recruiting another affiliate under his name.
Multi-tier. In a multi-tier program, earning a commission extends beyond the two-tier system. An affiliate may also earn a commission from the sub-affiliates of his own sub-affiliates. This group or network of sub-affiliates is commonly known as downlines. Up to a certain level, an affiliate can earn from the sales of his downlines. A good example of a multi-tier program is MLM or multi-level marketing.

Once you have published your ebook, say for a year or two, you will need to innovate your product so that it sells again to the next generation of your market. It sounds better to your wallet if your single ebook can continually generate income for you.

Innovate you ebook. One way to do it is to rebrand it. Give it a new name and new look. You can also transform it into a new form or medium. What follows are 6 ways you can innovate your e-book.

Periodic subscription. Chop your ebook into small sections. For each section, release it as an issue of your e-book either monthly or bi-monthly. You charge for every subscription.
Divide your e-book into two or more separate e-books. Sell them separately or as a package or both. Two books for a price of one would sound more attractive.
Publish a limited edition of your e-book. Try specialized editions that would include additional contents like unedited, uncut, uncensored, or unpublished chapters.
Convert your e-book into a hard copy book and submit it to publishers.
Turn your e-book into a seminar series, home study, or online class. This may be in a form of a webinar, subscribed email newsletter, classroom seminar, or via online subscription or membership on your own website.
Convert your e-book into a series of podcasts, downloadable audio, online or downloadable video, or downloadable or shippable software. You may do this for free so that you can introduce a new or bigger product; or charge a one-time or periodic subscription fee.

Ways to Market Your eBook

The next question is: how do your market your e-book? There are many ways. Below, I listed 12.

Create a website dedicated to your e-book. Advertise and promote your site. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, among others, accepts paid advertising.
If you have other websites, like a blog, advertise your e-book with a banner. The banner links to your site or the sales page of your e-book.
Advertise your e-book on other websites for a fee or ex-deal arrangement. Look for sites with heavy traffic.
Market it through affiliate hubs like ClickBank.
You can also create your own affiliate program. You can hire a programmer to design a system for you, or buy that is already commercially available.
Join discussion forums. Be true to what you say when you join these discussions. Do not spam. Never spam.
Look for websites related to your e-book and join the discussion in the comments section. Again, just don't spam.
Share it through social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc.
Create social media pages like on Facebook or Google+ and invite your connections to like it.
Create a video teaser and upload it on YouTube.
Take an excerpt of your e-book and give it away for free.
You can also give away your e-book on a trial for a specific period like 7, 15, or 30 days. After which, you charge them for the full price unless they signify within the trial period that they did not want your e-book.

So, there you have it. This is just a glimpse on how you can make money online by writing an e-book. The details on how to do it exactly is a long story to tell that would require extended and more extensive explanations because each pertinent line here is a big topic of its own.

How To Get Your Banner Ads Noticed

It is against the Adsense rules to direct your site visitors to clicking your site ads. So, how then can you attract your visitors to at least get your ad noticed.

1 The perfect position

The right sidebar is a blind spot especially if your screen is wide. The best position is at eye level in the center. However, it looks ridiculous putting an ad at the center of your web page. A strategic way is to put the ad within the content. On Blogger, your ad appears at the bottom of your post.

2 Size does matter.

The bigger the ad the better. However, make sure that you do not give your visitors and impression that to advertise is your primary goal rather than giving them valuable information.

3 Colors make sense.

The combination of red and yellow are attractive to the eyes, even subconsciously. Your eyes react to light. Even unconsciously, your pupil would notice a bright light especially red and yellow light. However, use red sparingly because eventually it becomes annoying and irritating to the eyes, pushing your visitors to leave your site.

4 One is enough.

The irony is that too much ads means no ads at all. Sometimes, if you give your guests too much choices, they end up not choosing any thing. Unless it is a banquet, where your guests can pick a little of many in the menu, they cannot do the same thing on your website if you offer them a buffet of ads.

The main key is focus. This works effectively if you know what you are advertising. Leading your visitors to focus on your most important ad is to capture 100% of their attention, thereby allowing your ad's message to sink in in their consciousness.

However, in case of Google Ads, where you do not know what would appear in their banner, you can follow the same principle and at the same time allow your visitors to make a choice.

Google Ads allow only a maximum of 3 ads per impression. Rather than presenting all 3 ads in one glance, let each ad show up one at a time per viewport. On Blogger, AdSense has done it for you because the banner ads can be positioned at the bottom of each post. For that reason, your viewers get to see only one ad a time, thereby giving each of your ad full attention.

5 Blow their eyes.

You have to understand how your eyes work. If they get confused as to which element to look at primarily, your eyes disregard everything because of eye strain and confusion. You might not notice but your eyes look at elements one at a time at mercurial speed starting from the element that captures most your eyes's attention. Our eyes react to light without our conscious control. Knowing that, you can actually lead your visitors's eyes to see or notice first that one element that you want your visitors to focus on.

6 Be gentle on your moves.

Actions or movements are eye catchers. Animated ads are effective but don't you dare abuse it. Have you ever noticed why casinos abuse the use of colors, sounds, and blinking lights? It is to create noise and chaos with a purpose to distract you and prevent you from concentrating and winning. Do not do the same trick to your website viewers. Your primary goal is to engage them, let them follow you and recommend your site.

7 KISS and make up.

The timeless rule always overrules. Keep your website and pages simple, neat, and professional. Avoid clutter, minimize colors, and don't be too obvious that you just want your visitors' money. Serve well. Give your visitors and followers the information that they need. Loyalty is the key.

8 Be discreet, men.

Competition is good but give Adsense some respect. Do not put ads that are competing against Google ads. You have to make a choice: either display only Google Ads or its competitors' ads but not both, most especially if your site is hosted by Blogger. Give Google it's due credit. Your blog is being hosted free by Google. I know that earning from Google Ads may not be enough, so, you may be tempted to find other ways like selling a product. Selling a product or your services is not the same as Google Ads.

9 One last try

Try this exercise. Before you zoom the image that follows, be honest not to be conscious of what you are going to do. Feel where your eyes lead you. Which of the elements that you noticed first, second, etc? If you believe you are tricking yourself, you can do the exercise over and over again, being more sensitive each time. There are more than 5 elements in the image but you only need to list the first 5. View the image about 2 feet away from your monitor.

Earn Money Online Through Google Adsense

Google Adsense is a form of advertising. I guess that you are already familiar with banner ads that you often see on various websites. You can find an example on this site.

Most banner ads are image ads; some are text ads. If your site is hosted by Blogger, then you won't have a problem putting Google ads on your site because it's just a matter of a couple of clicks.

If Your Site is Hosted By Blogger

If your site is hosted by Blogger, which I assume it is, you are going to signup for Adsense via Blogger. It is not really a requirement. You can directly go to Google AdSense to sign up, but for beginners, the Blogger approach is friendlier.

Signing Up For Adsense Via Blogger

You need to have an account with AdSense so that the earnings that your ads generate are credited to you.

Go to your Blogger Dashboard. On the left sidebar menu, click Earnings. Click the button Sign up for AdSense to bring you to the Google Ads signup page. The fact that you already have a Blogger account, all you have to do is sign in for AdSense.

In some cases, you may not see the Blogger + Google AdSense signup page. Instead, it displays a message that your blog is not yet eligible to show Google ads. Just wait some time until Google makes your site eligible.

The Adsense Signup Page

This is your next destination — the Google AdSense signup page.

If you already have a Google account, which is also your Blogger account, click the first blue button; otherwise, click the second button to create a new Google account.
On the next page, you are going to describe your website.
On the final page, you are going to submit your application. Google will notify you once your application is approved. Don't be intimidated by this. If your site is honest and trustworthy, there is nothing to worry about. In the meantime, read Adsense's eligibility process.

Showing Google Ads On Your Blogger Site

Once your AdSense application has been approved, you can now show banner ads on your site and start earning.

On your Blogger dashboard, click Layout shown on the left sidebar.
Once the layout of your site shows up, click Edit shown in the Blog Posts box to display the Configure Blog Posts box.
On the Configure Blog Posts box, check Show Ads Between Posts.
Save it and that's it. Google ads will start showing on your blog.

If Your Site Is Not Hosted By Blogger

If your site is not hosted by Blogger, sign up for AdSense directly on the Google AdSense site. On the Adsense start page, choose I Am...Publisher. On the Google Ads Publisher page, click Get Started With Adsense to sign up. If you already have a Google account, such as Gmail, then you can directly sign in here.

When Do You Start Earning

If your blog is new, most likely you cannot start earning yet. You can already put ads on your site, but if someone clicks it, whatever earnings it generates, it won't be credited to you. You qualify to earn from Adsense once your site becomes eligible to show Google ads.

If Google says that you can start earning from AdSense, you will be asked to connect your AdSense account to your Blogger account. So, do check your Earnings (left side bar) page from time to time.

You start earning from Google AdSense the moment someone clicks one of your ads. For each click of your ad, you earn at least $0.01. Yes, that's one cent of a dollar. If your ad received 1000 clicks, that means you have earned $10. Sounds simple? It is.

Here's the hard part. Though it is possible for your banner ads to receive 1000 clicks, that depends on a lot of factors such as:

Visits. Your site should have lots of visitors a day.
Your visitors should click the ads. But you are not allowed to invite them to click your ads; not even to suggest it. It's against the AdSense Terms of Service (TOS).
Your site should have good contents, not just one, but a lot.
Your site should rank on SERP; that's search engine results page. The SERP is what you see after you have Googled a search word or keyword. The SERP shows 10 possible results (pertaining to a variety of web pages) that are relevant to the keywords you just searched. To rank on SERP is actually the hardest part.

The Secret of Google Adsense Revealed

Yes, Google AdSense offers you an opportunity to earn. But you won't get rich with AdSense alone. If you want to earn $1000 a month solely from Google AdSense, assuming that for each click you earn $0.01, your banner ads should receive around 100,000 clicks. Rarely, that you'd earn $1 for each click. Normally, it ranges from $0.01 to $0.10.

To receive 100,000 clicks, your site should receive 1,000,000 visits a month or around 30,000 visits a day. If one site can only receive 1,000 visits a day, you must have 30 websites that receive 1000 visits a day in order to earn $1000 a month.

The example I used is based on a conservative calculation. It is possible that you can be lucky to receive 10,000 visits a day for just one site. But this requires that your site contains large volume of information.

Don't let your enthusiasm be dampened by what I just revealed. There are other ways to earn online. Google Adsense is just one of them.

Images Make An Attractive Post

More than words, an image speaks about your message in one glance. So, make sure that the image you include in your post is relevant to what you are talking about. Colors attract the eyes automatically because our eyes react to light. Colors are hues of light. That's the reason why adding an image to your post make your post visually attractive and appealing.

You can position your image to the left, center, or to the right. It can occupy the entire width of your post or just part of it. If the image is on the left or right, the text floats to the side of the image (just like what you see here).

Where To Get Images For Free

As much as possible, use your own images. Do not use someone else's photos or images without permission from the owner. Images found on the Net are by default public domain unless explicitly declared otherwise. Be careful not to infringe copyrights. Images under the Creative Commons are free to be used on other sites. You can find these on Wikimedia Commons.

Some other sites, like stock photo sites, allow you to use their images by linking to them, or by downloading them with the provision that you credit the source of the image. Some of the images I use on this site are from 123 Royalty Free Stock Photos. They have free photos available for download for a limited time only. After such period, the photo returns with a tag price.

Tip. Don't clutter your page with images. One image is enough.

It's now time to write your first post on your blog. Have you signed up for Blogger? If not, sign up now and create your blog. If you don't know how yet, read the previous post on how to create a blog on Blogger. Creating your blog on Blogger is easy. Forget about the blog settings for now. Just follow the 1-2-3 steps. It will take only a few seconds. At the end of these steps, you will be asked to write your first post.

What is a post and a blog?

A post is an entry to your blog. It's what you write about a certain topic. Posts are dated like a journal or a diary. A post is like an entry or a page on your diary or journal. In fact, a year before the birth of the word "blog", there was already a tool on the web called OpenDiary, followed by LiveJournal and Blogger. These tools were called "weblog", coined by John Barger. The term rooted from the words "web log" which means an online journal.

Peter Merholz, a pioneer in blogger, once wrote on his site Peterme.com the words "we blog", splitting the term "weblog." Since then, Evan Williams, co-founder of Pyra Labs that created Blogger, started to use the word "blog".

Today, a blog is used more than a journal for the reason that its contents can be anything you can imagine.

What to write on your first post

Your first post could be an introduction. Either you introduce yourself or write something what your blog is all about. You can also tell a story why you put up your blog; or skip the intro and immediately jump to your first thought or topic. What is important is that your first entry should already attract interest from your readers.

Another good point to remember is to write a good title. Make sure that just by the title itself, you already give your reader an idea what your post is about. Of course, there are times when you can use a title that serves like a teaser. There's an unlimited space to be creative. But technically, as far as SEO* is concerned, a good title is exact and direct to the point.

I hope by now, ideas have poured into your mind. If you already have that topic in your mind, start blogging now. Do not delay. In blogging for money, time is essential. You may not have a hundred visits yet, but it's good to let the Internet feel your web presence.

Search engines, like Google, takes time to crawl your new site. That's the reason why it is important to start blogging now. Begin with one post. After a day or two, post your next entry. Make it a habit. Soon you'll find out that your blog is growing and more viewers are visiting your site.

At this point, we'll talk about blogging on Blogger. WordPress is a little technical for beginners. So, we'll concentrate on Blogger.

To start blogging on Blogger, take these easy steps.

Sign up for Blogger. Don't worry it's free. If you already have a Google account, use your Google account to sign up for Blogger. Go to Blogger now.
Click that Get Started button. Blogger then will lead you to a 3-step instructions on how to create your blog. You will be asked to enter some data like email address, password, blog title, etc. It's easy. It's just like filling out a form.
Then you will be asked to choose a template design. There are many layouts and designs to choose from. But at this point, choose the default which is the dynamic template. If you don't like how your blog looks, you can change your template anytime. Changing your template design does not affect your blog contents.
After you've chosen your template, you can start posting.

Brainstorm And Incubate To Get The Perfect Ideas

Have you already thought what to write on your blog? If not, don't despair. It isn't easy, actually. It takes time. Just be patient.

Tips On How To Get Ideas

Brainstorming

Get a pen and a paper. Write anything that comes out of your mind. Do not censor your thoughts. This is not the time to do that. Just let the ideas flow freely and smoothly – from your head to your hand, to your pen, to your paper. Keep on writing the ideas until your brain stops giving you more ideas. It's just telling that it's enough for the day and that your mind needs to rest.
Go over your list. Just read. Do not judge what you write. Then keep the list. After a day or two, read the list again. Feel the topics. Which topics are giving you positive responses – like enthusiasm – or which one already triggers building up information in your head? Check or underline those topics. Check also those that interest you most.
Start eliminating. Don't cross out the topics you don't like. You might need them someday. Just leave a tick mark. Continue the process of elimination until you have only 10 or 12 in your list.
Once you already have your top 10 or 12, rank them according to your interest. The one that ranks first is the first topic that you would like to write about. It doesn't mean that "this is it!". Your first choice may or may not be the topic that you wish to focus on. If it's not, that's OK. What is important is that to start writing. Only when you start doing it that you will know if it is the topic that clicks.

Incubation

When you desire something, you think about it often. It's like you can get it out of your head. "What topic should I write about?" you ask yourself often. But no matter how you squeeze your mind, it seems that you don't get any answer. That is OK. Your mind is in the process of incubation. It's like, you send a question to your mind, then your mind searches every "corner of the world" to look for the answer. So, just give your mind some time to search for the answer. One day, you will be surprised that the answer will just pop out. Thus, it's a good thing to keep a tiny notebook and a pen handy so that whenever an idea suddenly emerges from your deep consciousness, you won't have a hard time recalling it.

Wasting Time Productively

Caught in a traffic and nothing to do? Waiting for someone who usually comes late? At the airport, you're waiting for your time to board in; or, just feeling lazy because you are too stressed to work. It's a waste of time, right?.

Turn this time into something productive. Start daydreaming. Daydream about what you wish to write. Keep the ideas, thoughts, or images running in your mind. If you want, you can take out your handy notebook and pen. Write the things that flash in your mind. Simply write; no rules. Just like doodling. The next thing you know, the green light is on; or your special someone has arrived; or it's time to board your plane. A little while after, you notice your stress is gone.

Power Dreaming

This is a special exercise and it's proven effective. Remember how many times you've said to yourself before drifting to sleep, "I'm going to wake up at 8" or "I need to wake up early at 5 AM." When you open your eyes the next day, voila! You just wake up exactly at the time you said to yourself. That's power dreaming.

Transform your wake-up-time statement to "Give me a good idea to write about." Say it once, twice or thrice. It doesn't matter. Just feel it. Don't think. While asleep, you might just dream about it; or, upon waking up, an idea is the first thing that registers in your head. Sometimes, a few days or hours afterwards, the good idea may just spring up out of the blue. That's the work of power dreaming.

First Thing First

In order to start earning online, you must have a website. A blog on Blogger is the easiest way to set up one. It is free, so, at this point, your only investment is your time and ideas. But before you sign up for Blogger, do some brainstorming first.

Your Next Thing To Do

What would you write about? There are many things to talk under the sun. What interests you most is probably the best answer. Say, your interest is about travel. Do you think you can write many things about places you have visited, like a hundred topics about places of interests? If your answer is "yes", then go for it.

It starts with an idea.

Why a hundred posts? Because content is important - both quality and quantity. In fact, not just a hundred. Post as many as you can. Do it every day or at least, every other day. You don't have to post every thing in one day. Just one topic a day. If that stresses you, make it 2 or 3 topics a week. When you have already written much, reduce it to one topic a week. For now, start thinking what interests you most.

Should I Write In English

Yes! Because Google Adsense relies on the English Language. Adsense is Google's way of paying you for ads that appear on your blog. I'll talk about Adsense in my future topics. For now, your assignment is to think about a subject that you can write many things about it in English.

Why On Blogger?

If you have zero budget, choose Blogger because Blogger is free. It's easy to use and easy to customize the layout of your blog. It is very user friendly. It is integrated with Adsense, so no hassle in putting ads.

There are others sites that offer free blog hosting. At this point, we will focus on Blogger because it is a good starting point. You will learn about the other stuff soon. There are many things to learn about MMO so, just keep it cool.
