The mentality of copying setups from other drivers is going on, although that isn't the key to become one of the fastest. There are so much elements in simracing which influence your performance as a racer. Setups, wheel settings, racing equipment, psychology, documentation, its a mixture of &nbsp;many elements which results in the overall performance of every individual racer. Documentation?<br /> Well if I would ask you how your 1st sector time in melbourne changed over the last 8 weeks, what would be your answer? What is your time advantage in the last sector in bahrain with 1-1 wings in comparison to 3-2 wings? Can your regain that time in the midsector? Whats your average first sector time over the last 8 weeks?<br /> Do you have an answer for that? If yes you are a professional simracer. If no you just want to have some fun races, which is absolutely ok, but don't expect to be one of the fastest out there.<br /> Everytime you join a lobby you could documentate your laptimes and findings. Personally I enjoy doing that, as I've always the feeling to learn something new. For me it is a great feeling to see that I found 1 tenth of a second in a sector. In the meantime a patch for Codemasters F12012 was released (v1.01). What Codemasters did is that they adjusted the grip levels on the circuits. So in general the grip on the racing line is the same, but when you are a bit off the racing line you find now more grip than in the prepatched version.<br /> This has major impacts in setup and driving behaviour of the cars. I will present you now an alternate setup for the Hockenheimring which takes you into the low 1.13's. It is a tweak/fine tune based on the quiet famous&nbsp;<a href="http://f12011-setups.blogspot.de/2012/09/codemasters-f12012-initial-start-setup.html"><span style="color: blue;">Initial Start Setup</span></a> for that circuit. It doesn't matter if it was with intention or late braking, its just very annoying for the guy ahead. In Codemasters F1 2012 these crash festivals happens quiet often imo. But now codemasters introduced a new component which is great! The guy who produces the crash often also spins! Unfortunately the collision control in the game has a sync problem in online lobbys at the moment (has been fixed with 2nd patch). So you need a strategy to avoid collisions. Lets go back. What are the reasons for unfair/dangerous driving attitudes? <br /> Well in a simulation you can't get injuries nor is there a risk that you can get "real life" problems by doing silly moves. But in my opinion the main problem is that some drivers forget an important thing in F1. The DRS Zones. I don't really get it why people don't use that zones for smart overtaking. Why not saving fuel behind someone for half the lap and then overtaking with Kers, DRS and Full Power Engine Mapping on the straight in a clean move. Think about your real life. There are risks everywhere. Smart and intelligent people reduce them. Its the same in racing. Why taking the risk? Lets make a bit of game theory.<br /> A) There is a 50 percent chance that you overtake quickly without timelost by trying to overtake him instantly and in a risky way. On the other side there is a 50% probability that you crash with the racer ahead. <br /> <br /> B) A smarter way would be to reduce the risk by waiting for the drs straight, and overtaking with kers,drs and Full Power Engine Mapping. <br /> Lets assume you have a 10 percent chance of ending in a crash by that move. The only investment for this massive reduction of risk is to give away about half a second due to staying behind the guys ahead the whole lap until the drs zone straight. You may say that this is complete nonsense. Indeed you may end up in crashing 10 races in a row also with B) especially when meeting the wrong guys.But the more races you drive the more you will end up in the statistic mentioned in the table. Its about elementary probability and calculus. I want to end up this little article with a final note. <br /> In the table above you we assume that we only make one overtake in the whole race. As you can imagine my main focus was on setups and getting used to the new handling model.<br /> There were a lot of nice discussions with some of the fastest guys out there regarding their thoughts about setups and handling.<br /> <br /> <br /> Finally I can announce that I was able to develop an Initial Start Setup for Codemasters F12012 which suits every circuit quiet well.<br /> The community members of this site already know what an Initial Start Setup is, as I developed an <a href="http://f12011-setups.blogspot.de/2012/05/starting-point-for-elite-setups-we-call.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">Initial Start Setup for Codemasters F12011</span></a> before. <br /> For the new visitors I will give a brief introduction now.<br /> On every circuit there should be a setup to start with. Its like a base setup. A setup which you know is very fast and you only must tweak a bit for the circuit characteristic and most important your driving style. I was not sure if something like that exists in Codemasters F12012, but finally I can say it exists.<br /> The purpose of this base setup is to give you a base tool set to start with.<br /> Slightly oversteer, raise rear wings by one or two. Oversteer in slow corners, reduce rear spring stiffness by one or two. Bad initial turn in, reduce toe in (slider to the right). So you see just slightly tweaks of the base, but without leaving the base. We will go deeper into that fine tuning in later posts.<br /> <br /> Some people might argue now that there is already a standard setup when you start in the pits right? Its to early to give you specific setups as there are many things to discover. Of course I was in online lobbies to compete with some fast racers. I was able to win some races because I concentrate more on the race setup.<br /> Its a massive change compared to Codemasters F12011. What I found in that early stage is that you can go with low wings and that you can defend/overtake pretty well with low wings. The slipstream has been reduced in the current game, which obviously helps when you go with low wings, as you can go away on the straights (good job Codemasters).<br /> Today I was driving Spa Franchorchamps, Melbourne Australia, Valencia Spain, Hockenheimring, Catalunya Spain and Canada.&nbsp;For all circuits I used the same setup which is not the best!
