This week, we’re changing up the format for our 75th Episode Quarter Quell Special! It’s our third Quell as Fighting in The War Room, and we’re getting all nostalgic again. Katey, Da7e, David and Patches have each brought a film that they wanted to be when they grew up. Katey always wanted to be Marty McFly from Back to the Future, Da7e wishes he were Penny Marshall’s Big, David sees himself in James L. Brooks’ Broadcast News and Patches, perhaps predictably, chooses earnest love-of-teaching-music movie Mr. Holland’s Opus.

This week – Oh YEAH (Oh Yeah (oh yeah (ohyeah))) it’s an all dude ‘cast as Patches, Da7e and David are down a Katey. It’s appropriate that this is also the week an Entourage movie comes out, so these three guys talk about why the series seems mostly hated this time around. Then, in a segment inspired by Patches’ dinner small talk, each host has to cast the FITWR line-up as Game of Thrones characters (surprisingly no one is Hodor). Finally, David wonders if wanting to see your political ideals reflected onscreen sometimes hurts cinema by throwing the baby out with the nitpicky bathwater.

REVIEW – Avengers: Age of Ultron

All four hosts review their seventh Marvel movie together in the regular fashion.

It’s that time of the year again, folks: time for the newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a super-packed sequel sure to leave you bewildered but pleased, says Da7e. Patches got quoted in a television ad for his Esquire piece, Katey doesn’t have to worry about Thanos and THE EHRLICH – fan of the first Avengers and not a Marvel movie since – HAS HIS OPINION.

Does Joss Whedon’s sequel deserve to be the record setting international hit it probably is by the time this episode is live?

This week, Katey, Patches, David, and The Guardian’s Jordan Hoffman defy North Korea and the bigwigs at Sony by reviewing The Interview, a movie that will never see the light of day. Drowned in controversy over its depiction of Kim Jong-un, Sony buried the latest from Seth Rogen and This Is the End co-director Evan Goldberg after hacker terrorists threatened to attack theaters showing the picture. Which is too bad… because the movie is pretty damn funny. Hoping that one day, listeners will be able to this lowbrow-highbrow gem, the FITWR crew decided a review was still in order. A brief mention of Sony truly offensive holiday offering, Annie, and answers to this week’s lightning round question rounds out this week’s review episode.

34 – Only Women Can Save Us!

Men and women were created equal, but they are different. Especially when it comes to weight loss. Women face some unique challenges in getting the bathroom scale to budge. And these challenges are both medical and emotional in nature. So whether you're trying to lose 5 pounds or 50, it’s important to understand your weight loss challenges. That way, you'll be armed with weight loss tips (specifically for women) and strategies that can help you break through those obstacles and making slimming down easier. Try out these meticore diet pills.

Obstacle #1: Do you feel stressed?
Almost everyone feels stress at some point in the day. But research shows that women are more prone to feeling stress as they juggle the demands of their work commitments, their family lives and their social ties. And not only that, but women are also more likely than men to feel guilt when work interrupts their home lives. All of that pressure adds up, sending stress-hormone levels soaring, the testo boosters can increase energy levels for your body.

The kicker in all of this? Research shows that high levels of a stress hormone called cortisol increases appetite. Uh-oh. And cortisol makes people crave foods high in fat and sugar. Double uh-oh.

The solution: To help keep stress from sabotaging your waistline, one of the best weight loss tips for women is to spend at least a few minutes every day practicing a simple stress reduction strategy. Like one of these:

Walk for 10 minutes. And walk outside if you can.
Breathe deeply 10 times.
Tense and then relax each muscle group. Start at your toes and move up.
Find a quiet place to meditate for 10 minutes.

Obstacle #2: Are you getting enough sleep?
Most people don't get enough sleep. But women have more sleep struggles than men do. In fact, about 70 percent of women get fewer than 8 hours of sleep per night. Women have more trouble falling and staying asleep, and they also suffer from more daytime sleepiness compared with men. Some of the top factors in women's sleep troubles include work and family stress, health problems and uncomfortable beds.

All of which can add up to stubborn pounds, because a lack of sleep throws appetite hormones off and stimulates overeating.

The solution: Sleep in. Go to bed early. Makeover your bedroom until it resembles a veritable sleep-fantasy suite. Do whatever you need to do to get the recommended 7 to 8 hours a night. Especially if you're trying to lose weight.

Obstacle #3: Feeling sluggish?
A sluggish thyroid—also know as an underactive thyroid gland or hypothyroidism—is much more likely to develop in women than in men, especially after menopause. And that spells trouble for waistlines. Here's why: In addition to fatigue and sluggishness, an underactive thyroid can also cause weight gain.

The solution: If you have unexplained fatigue and weight gain, have your thyroid levels checked. An autoimmune condition called Hashimoto's disease is a frequent cause of hypothyroidism, and it's more common in women than in men. Another underlying cause of hypothyroidism in women: pregnancy.

Is your thyroid going haywire? Look for these signs.

Obstacle #4: How much muscle do you have?
Blame this one on Mother Nature. Women's bodies are built differently than men's—women have more fat and less muscle. And less lean body mass means they have lower resting metabolic rates compared with men. Women burn fewer calories on a baseline level. And that smaller body size means women burn fewer calories with the same amount of exercise. The solution: Avoid super-low-calorie diets that'll put you into starvation mode and make it harder for your body to burn calories and lose weight. Dental Review- ManBoyhood

Good oral hygiene is necessary to keep teeth and gums healthy. It involves habits such as brushing twice a day and having regular dental checkups.

However, oral health is about more than cavities and gum disease. Research has shown that there is an association between the health of a person’s mouth and their overall health. Experts consider oral health problems to be a global health burden.

Without treatment, tooth decay or gum problems can lead to pain, problems with self-confidence, and tooth loss. These issues may lead to malnutrition, speech problems, and other challenges in a person’s work, school, or personal life.

People can prevent these problems with proper dental care, both at home and in the dentist’s office. The following are some best practices that can keep teeth and gums healthy.

1. Brush regularly but not aggressively

Share on Pinterest Brushing twice a day and using dental floss can help keep teeth and gums healthy.

Most people are aware that brushing their teeth twice a day is one of the most important practices for removing plaque and bacteria and keeping teeth clean. However, brushing may only be effective if people use the correct technique.

People should brush using small circular motions, taking care to brush the front, back, and top of every tooth. This process takes between 2 and 3 minutes. People should avoid sawing back-and-forth motions. For better results try out steel bite pro.

Brushing too hard or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage tooth enamel and the gums. The effects of this may include tooth sensitivity, permanent damage to the protective enamel on the teeth, and gum erosion.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommend using a toothbrush that has soft bristles. They also state that people should change their toothbrush every 3 months or when the ends start to look frayed, whichever comes first.

2. Use fluoride

Fluoride comes from an element in the earth’s soil called fluorine. Many experts believe that fluoride helps prevent cavities, and it is a common ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash.

However, some dental products do not contain fluoride, and some people do not use it at all.

Evidence suggests that a lack of fluoride can lead to tooth decay, even if a person takes care of their teeth otherwise. A recent review found that brushing and flossing do not prevent a person from getting cavities if they do not use fluoride.

Many communities in the United States have added fluoride to their water supply. Several organizations recommend this practice, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the ADA.

People can find out whether the water in their area contains fluoride by contacting their local government. Reverse osmosis water filters remove fluoride, and people who use well water will need to check the fluoride levels in this water to find out how much is present. Many bottled water brands do not contain fluoride.

3. Floss once a day

Flossing can remove plaque and bacteria from between the teeth, where a toothbrush is unable to reach. It can also help prevent bad breath by removing debris and food that has become trapped between the teeth.

Although there is a lack of long-term studies proving that flossing is beneficial, the ADA continue to recommend it. The CDC also state that people should floss their teeth.

Most dental health professionals recommend gently pushing the floss all the way down to the gumline before hugging the side of the tooth with up-and-down motions. It is important to avoid snapping the floss up and down between the teeth, which can cause pain and will not remove plaque as effectively.

4. See a dentist regularly

Experts recommend that people see a dentist every 6 months for a checkup. During a routine dental examination, a hygienist will clean the teeth and remove plaque and hardened tartar.

The dentist will check for visual signs of cavities, gum disease, mouth cancer, and other oral health issues. They may sometimes also use dental X-rays to check for cavities.

The results of a recent study confirmed that children and adolescents should see a dentist every 6 months to help prevent cavities. However, adults who practice good dental hygiene every day and have a low risk of oral health problems may be able to go less frequently.

The authors of a recent review state that there is a need for more high-quality studies to confirm the ideal frequency of dental checkups.

People can speak to their dentist about how often they need a checkup. The answer may vary depending on a person’s health history, age, and overall dental health. However, anyone who notices changes in their mouth should visit a dentist.

What is a Quarter Quell?

A podcast Quarter Quell represents a break in our usual format. Every 25 episodes, Katey, Patches, David and Da7e stop talking about current pop culture and cover a topic/movie that let’s you know a bit more about the four of them as people.

It’s humanizing, like naming a cow before the slaughter. Especially this Family Interveiw Quarter Quell, which is pretty humanizing, parents and siblings wise.

Leading up to Fighting In The War Room 25 (June 3rd!), we’ll be seeding our previous Quarter Quells under that other podcast name.

This week, we are amazed and delighted to be celebrating our 100th episode! As we have for every 25th episode– or “Quarter Quell”– we’ve changed up the format, and this time we’ve each brought in one of our family members for a discussion about… well, ourselves. In each of the four segments one of the usual podcasters is replaced by a family member, who is forced to answer questions about how in the world we turned out his way. Katey’s sister reveals how their entire family got obsessed with Titanic, Patches’ father admits he doesn’t share his son’s enthusiasm for The Smurfs, Da7e’s mom shares some of the slightly too explicit home movies he made as a child, and David’s brother-in-law– who likes even more obscure movies than David does!– calls David the most knowledgeable film lover he knows.

This week on Operation Kino, we’re throwing out the usual format and celebrating our 50th episode with our second Quarter Quell. Last time each of us brought in a movie that represented how we thought about film, but this time we’re getting nostalgic, with each podcaster revisiting the first movie that ever got them really into film. We kick things off with Da7e, who fell in love with monster movies at an early age thanks to this obscure foreign monster Gojira– or, Godzilla to us Americans. Then Patches recalls how exciting it was, as a sheltered youth, to come across the comedic insanity of The Blues Brothers. David takes us back to his film school days with the experimental travelogue Sans Soleil, from the same director who brought you La Jetee. And Katey wraps things up by reviving her pretentious 15-year-old self who thought she was really, really smart when she first saw American Beauty. Operation Kino Podcast #25: The Quarter Quell

This week on Operation Kino, we’re doing things a little differently. It’s been 25 episodes since we first started keeping official count, and we decided to take this little anniversary as an opportunity to change up our format and tell you not just what we think of this week’s crop of new releases, but how we think about movies in general.

All four of us came prepared with one movie that we don’t just love, but that we think explains something about the way we look at movies. We’re calling this format the “Quarter Quell,” which will sound familiar if you’ve read The Hunger Games– don’t worry, our version is far less violent.

David starts things off with Paul Schrader’s Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, which he fits in with the idea of film presenting “ecstatic truth”; Patches adores Groundhog Day not just because it’s funny and well-made, but because it’s a movie he can show anyone; Da7e watches Fight Club as an example of how characters can develop even in a really non-traditional narrative; and Katey closes things out with The Apartment as a way to get a glimpse into a far-away time, and also just a damn well-written movie.

But even with the new format, some things stay the same–we start things off with a summer-ending lightning round, and end, as always, with your lightning round answers for dessert.
