MusicRadar has released a free collection containing sounds created with Jen SX1000 monosynth, a vintage '70s synth. These samples originally appeared on Computer Music magazine's cover DVD.

SampleRadar is taking the slightly unusual step of featuring just one instrument this week. All the sounds in this collection were created using the Jen SX1000 monosynth, which was on the market in the late '70s and early '80s.

There's still plenty of variety, though, and many of the samples have been processed to give them extra potency.

All samples are in 24Bit WAV format and are royalty free.

Temperature VST

RobotPlanet has released Temperature VST, a 'super simple equalizer' effect plugin for Windows.

Looking for a 3 dB/oct filter? Or even a 1 dB/oct filter? Look no further! This VST is like the old "tone control" seen on many 70s and 80s tape recorders, but one that tilts the entire frequency spectrum in a very precise and linear fashion.

A value of -10 dB will turn white noise into pink noise, and -20 will give you something that is very close to a RIAA curve. Positive numbers will increase the highs and attenuate the lows. It also comes with an optional DC remover, a 6dB/oct highpass filter that goes from 10 to 1000 Hz. The plug-in has been tested at 44100 and 96000 Hz samplerate, but should work at other rates as well.

Temperature VST is available as freeware on Robot Planet.

Audio Damage has released an updated version of Rough Rider, a free compressor effect plugin for Windows and Mac.

Rough Rider is a modern compressor with a bit of "vintage" style bite and a uniquely warm sound. Perfect for adding compression effects to your drum buss, it also sounds great with synth bass, clean guitar, and backing vocals. Definitely not an all-purpose compressor, Rough Rider is at its best when used to add pump to rhythmic tracks. Of course, you can use it however you'd like. The Compressor Police aren't gonna come to your house and give you a citation. Slap it on a track and crank some knobs.

Mildon Studios has released Lite Piano Free, a free version of their Lite Piano SFZ- a piano instrument which can be used with a SFZ player. There are plenty of free SFZ players on net. SFZ players are similar to soundfont players, they can be installed like an ordinary VST instrument into your DAW of choice, in our case- FL Studio.

It features an expressive set of high-quality 16-bit samples compressed to OGG format (only 18MB). It's really tiny, but still sounds awesome. Optionally, for the price of a 'tall' Starbucks Frappe ($3) you can buy the full-quality WAV set (95MB). We assure you that the coffee money will be used only for the greater good. Finally got around to chopping up some recordings of my DIY stuff I've had sitting around for awhile, here are some of the fruits of my labor. Mischjok has released Machinery II, a free sample pack containing 77 MB of WAV samples suitable for IDM, glitchcore, noisecore, breakbeat, ambient, techno, minimal etc.

During the writing process of my first electronic music album I was often confronted with lack of samples. I finally came to conclusion it would be better for me to design my own sounds.
Over the course of the following months I would specifically sit down and concentrate on a single synthesis technique in order to create as many interesting sounds as possible.

BattleComp Vintage v1.2 VST

Joachim Michaelis has released an update to BattleComp Vintage VST compressor, a free compressor effect plugin for Windows OS.

The BattleComp Vintage is a punchy, yet smooth compressor with an EQ and a highpass filter on it's internal sidechain and tube emulation + soft-clipping circuit in the output stage to keep peaks under control, all in one VST plugin.

The highpass filter makes it easy to avoid pumping effects when there's a lot of bass - something many compressors struggle with. This compressor is suitable for both master signal compression and per-instrument compression. The plugin is written entirely in C++ by me, Joachim Michaelis in 2010.

Steinberg re-released as freeware two classic plugins- Neon VSTi, a polyphonic synth featuring two oscillators, ADSR envelopes, an LFO and a resonant filter and Karlette VST , a vintage tape delay with four independent delay heads and tempo sync.

Throughout the long history of Steinberg, many products have come and gone, many have been superseded by new variants and others have been dropped completely. Once in a while, however, some of our developers like to dig up one of these long forgotten gems and polish it ready for current operating systems.
As these revived products remain discontinued, their updates are not officially supported. Updates for discontinued products are sporadic as these are voluntarily provided by our engineers in their free time.
