Red Carpet Fashion Show 2012

Trend-watchers and socialites are gearing up for the third annual Red Carpet Fashion Show in Camps Bay on 10 February all in the name of charity.

Celebrities, fashionistas and designers will meet at Rotanda in Camps Bay where some of South Africa’s biggest names in fashion will showcase their work in support of charity. Last year, the Red Carpet Fashion Show raised a substantial donation for the Animal Rescue Organisation.

Top South African designers Kluk, CGDT, Craig Port, Stefania Morland, and Jagadi Haute Couture will be showcasing their work while Katlego Maboe and Elana Afrika will MC the event.

Organiser and fashion guru, Jade Allen, is expecting a star-studded event with the trendy Camps Bay as the meeting place of creativity and charity. Tickets are available at Webtickets and include complementary drinks and canapés all evening, with champagne and oysters on arrival at the exclusive after party taking place at the Sandy B Private Beach Club. Each guest will receive a goody bag, and one lucky guest will end the evening with a beautiful diamond bracelet.

2013 Porsche Boxster

The recent unveiling of the Porsche 2012 911 Carrera Cabriolet at the Detroit Auto Show wowed motoring fans but the German car maker is not resting on its laurels. The legendary brand gave drivers a sneak peek of the 2013 Boxter and it looks like Porsche is determined to churn out more power, more style and even more industry groundbreakers.

The Boxter’s revised headlamps and smoother running lamp and air intake setup, gives it an all round sophistication and the promise of peak driving enjoyment. The 2013 Boxster’s all-aluminum skin has taken some weight off the car’s body improving fuel economy while maintaining the same aerodynamic feel and style that Porsche is known for.

Driving the rear-wheel drive vehicle are two flat-six cylinder engines with direct injection, thermal management and start/stop function. The Boxter will come in four variants, Base, S, Spyder and Black edition. The base engine pushes 265hp while the Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-liter engine that produces 315hp.

The standard Boxster will do a comfortable 100km/h in 5.4 seconds with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, while the Boxster S can hit 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. The standard base Boxter offers a six-speed manual transmission with optional PDK seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, including manual shift and steering wheel paddles.

Adding to its appeal, the 2013 Boxster comes with a power retractable rear spoiler, 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED tail lamps, leather seat trim, air conditioning, cruise control and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, as well as a MP3-compatible CD player and universal audio interface.

Porsche’s new Black Edition features a monochrome treatment, with 19-inch black aluminum wheels, black exterior mirrors, blackened exhaust pipes and black interior trim, along with Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights, satellite radio and a navigation system.

The Spyder variant has more exclusive equipment, including a fixed rear lip spoiler, 19-inch aluminum wheels, locking rear differential and leather sport seats with carbon fibre seatbacks. To reduce weight and enhance performance the radio and air conditioning are removed.

Standard safety features for the 2013 Boxter include Porsche Stability Management (PSM), anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, front and side seat-mounted airbags with a curtain airbag for head protection, and fixed roll-over protection bars.

The 39^th issue of the Pirelli Calendar was unveiled in New York marking another year of photographer Mario Sorrenti’s reputation as a Pirelli favourite. Sorrenti’s talent for capturing gorgeous international models in stunning settings has become an almost cult-like phenomenon and a career milestone for many beauties.

The 25 pictures of the 2012 Pirelli Calendar, or The Cal as its often referred to, feature nine models and three actresses including Isabeli Fontana, Saskia de Brauw and Lara Stone. The 18 black and white and seven colour images also include Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich and Margareth Madè.

With a top speed of 100mph, the Traxxas XO-1 is the fastest remote controlled car on the market. This is more than just a toy, it is a tech breakthrough in electronic gadget design. The new iOS application and its electric AWD system, work together resulting in a speed of 60mph in 2.3 seconds, and 100mph in 4.92 seconds. Festivals: Glastonbury Music Festival – Get Ready for 2013

The UK music festival scene will not include the popular Glastonbury Festival in 2012 giving other smaller events the opportunity to show what they are made of. Tickets for Glastonbury 2013 are however already being booked and you don’t want to miss out on this epic event on the music calendar.

The Glastonbury Festival took a break in 2001 and 2006, but has been a firm favourite with musicians and fans alike since the ‘70s. Don’t miss out on next year’s festival and book your tickets ASAP on the official website. There are of course many things to take into consideration when making the pilgrimage to Glastonbury and we have some top tips and nifty inside info to ensure you don’t get stuck in the Glastonbury mud.

Original Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis, now in his 70s, still has the final say over this hard-hitting, rough-and-tumble music festival jam-packed with some of the world’s greatest names in music. But this festival is no picnic. You’ll need some serious planning, a tight buddy system and loads of energy.

Around 150 000 people flock to Worthy Farm in south west England where they revel in loud music thanks to the Pyramid Stage to the north of the farm, The Other Stage to the south and surrounding venues including the acoustic tent, comedy tent and even a circus. In between, you will find arts and crafts, food and loads of booze.

If you are not the outdoor type, then Glastonbury is perhaps not the best suited festival for you. The idea is for people to mingle, live together, camp together, eat, drink and share in the music. So, most people who stay at the festival camp in tents. There are, however, a number of campsites available, some more demure, like the Limekilns and Hitchin Hill sites, whereas the louder crowd tend to stick to Pennard Hill.

Since 2001, festival bosses introduced tipis, some of which are permanently on the farm, others are brought along and pitched to accommodate up to six adults per tipi. Don’t worry, they come with groundsheets and raincatchers – you have to however remember your own bedding and camping equipment. One perk of the Tipi Park has to be the solar showers and yurt sauna – two luxuries you won’t usually find at outdoor music festivals! Expect to shell out a few pounds for these comfy abodes – they go for around £900 that’s in addition to the entry ticket. Sadly, caravan fans are not allowed to park their vans on the premises, but there are surrounding sites who will happily take you in.

Getting your hands on Glastonbury tickets are not as easy as you might think. Each person has to register well ahead of the festival. Each ticket sports the holder’s profile pic, so you can’t sneak your mates in or sell the ticket once you’ve bought it. Online registration can be done here but has to be done 48 hours prior to buying the ticket. This is the kicker, though, registration does not guarantee a ticket – and no – your chances of getting a ticket does not depend on how many times you register. The Glastonbury guys run a pretty tight ship, so it’s better to plan ahead, register, get the camping out of the garage and prepare for the outdoor music festival experience of your life.
