Name: Jarryd Boyd, a junior public relations major

Member since: Fall 2010

Why I’m Running: From freshman member to officer (2011-2012 Professional Liaison) to now an active member with an inside perspective, I understand this chapter. I love this organization, and I have a vision of how to uplift us to a new level. No other candidate has been on the number of trips, attended the amount of meetings, or bonded our members over the years like I have. I want to meet the needs of our members whether they are freshmen or graduating, in the PR major or an enthusiast. What makes us rising PR professionals isn’t the classes we take, but the heart and drive to succeed. Let me be that heart and drive for our chapter. Allow me grow the legacy passed down to us.

Hi! My name is Pamela Rothenberg. I cannot begin to express to you how proud and excited I am to be running for president of FPRA. As this year’s vice president, I had the unique experience of getting a close look at the presidential position. I made my term as vice president a learning experience. My leadership skills grew and the knowledge I gained is invaluable. I learned members are like customers and the number one goal is to satisfy the customer! For those of you who attended the trips I’ve planned, you’re well aware that I aim to exceed expectations. With your vote, I look forward to putting all that I learned to good use and providing you with the essentials for another great year in FPRA!

Name: Julia Bomfim– you probably know me best as FPRA’s current Secretary.

Member since: Fall, 2010

Why I’m Running: I am honored and elated to be running for Vice President for next school year. In all of my time at FSU, (and I wish there was more of it!) I have not found a club or organization more concurrent with my values as a student or future professional. And I know I’m not alone! Next year, I hope to continue that legacy for all FPRA members, developing a student organization with strong ties to the professional chapter and ample opportunities for growth and involvement, where students from all majors feel welcome.

The possibility of holding the position of Vice President to this chapter is one that is very exciting to me. One of the aspects of this organization that excites me the most is the out of town trips. I believe that it is extremely important to be able to make connections all over the country, and I would love the opportunity to help all of our members make these connections. The fall trip helped me secure an internship at Uproar PR for this summer. The Orlando and NYC trips were very positive experiences, and I have many ideas to make future trips even better. My extreme attention to detail, love of travel, and ability to sweet talk just about anyone into giving us good deals (we all love saving money, am I right?!) are only a few qualities that I believe make me the ideal candidate. I look forward to helping all of our futures shine even brighter by holding this position.

Professional Liaison

Responsible for reaching out and scheduling all meeting speakers and serves as a liaison to the Capital Chapter.

Hello, my name is Drew Piers and I would like to apply for the professional liaison position. I am a junior at Florida State University majoring in public relations and political science with a minor in business. I am currently interning at Sachs Media Group, a Tallahassee-based PR firm formerly called Ron Sachs Communications. Before this, I interned in Governor Scott’s office for a year and a half where I worked as a liaison between the governor’s office and several state agencies. Prior to coming to FSU, I volunteered for two years at one of the largest radio stations in the state where I spoke on-air, conducted research and organized interviews. This position requires someone with extensive networks within the community and connections with the FPRA Capital Chapter. I am the best candidate because I have significant experience in both the private and public sectors of the communications field and have made many contacts that could serve as engaging and informative speakers at future FPRA events. I am also very organized and have been involved with bringing high-profile speakers to FSU in the past. Additionally, my current supervisor is the president of the FPRA Capital Chapter and I work with her to help plan and organize many of their events. The field of PR is diverse and always changing, if elected, I am certain that the members of the FPRA Student Chapter will be very pleased with the diverse selection of speakers and events that I will help bring.

My name is Shea Oliver and I am running for the professional liaison position. I am a junior majoring in public relations with a minor in hospitality and will have completed the second year of the public relations major at the end of this spring. Next year I will be taking classes that go toward my minor and graduate degree in integrated marketing communications. I have been a member of FPRA for two years and have attended the professional development trips to Atlanta, Orlando and New York City I have interned at Capital Regional Medical Center as a public relations and marketing intern and am currently interning at The Mayfield Group, a boutique public relations firm specializing in the luxury lifestyle market. These internships have provided me with invaluable public relations experience and connections to professionals in the Tallahassee area. I am also very involved with Pi Beta Phi and currently serve as the vice president of housing and the external relations chair. I am so excited to get involved with FPRA and strongly believe that my leadership and internship experience in public relations would be a valuable asset to FPRA.

Secretary

Tracks membership paper work, creates meeting agendas, takes minutes for meeting recaps, prints off any meeting materials, compiles internship book, creates meeting PowerPoints and is in charge of the ER for PR event.

Position: Secretary

I’m a second year Public Relations and Marketing major with a minor in Psychology. I was born and raised in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. before making the move to Tallahassee to be a Seminole. Every time I attend an FPRA function I fall even more in love with my major, so the obvious next step was to apply for an executive position. I love social media, writing and staying organized – three things that I think make qualified to be secretary. Since I’ve been an active member of FPRA for the past year I think I would do well as a liaison between the executive board and the members of the organization.

If there is one thing I have learned during my time at Florida State, it is that that hard work, passion, commitment are vital to success. My name is Jazmyn Reed, I’m a sophomore, English, Writing, and Media major, and I plan to offer all of that as a member of the executive board. FPRA has confirmed my passion for PR and has given me incredible insight into the professional world of PR. That’s why I am running for exec, in order to continue to offer to others what FPRA has done for me. I have several ideas that I look forward to sharing with you during my speech, that will build upon the successfulness and efficiency of FPRA and demonstrate my passion for this organization and field.

My name is Briana Wilson, I’m currently a sophomore majoring in Communications. I am currently on the executive board for Florida State’s competitive cheerleading club and I serve as the secretary and public relations chair. Based on my experience, I would like to run for the position of secretary for FPRA. I am very reliable, personable, and organized. I know how to manage my time very well, I am very dedicated and people can depend on me to help out with any duty they need assistance with. As a leader, I make it a priority to be accessible to members to provide them with any information they might be seeking, which is why I think I would be a great secretary for FPRA.

Erin Schartz

Hello fellow FPRA members, My name is Erin Schwartz. I am currently a freshman, who is looking to become more involved with FPRA. Although, not formally admitted into the Public Relations major, I have a vested interest in what the Public Relations field has to offer. I have gained a multitude of experiences from heading and creating a club at my high school to becoming involved with other organizations, such as being on the PR committee for Habitat for Humanity. I would like to run for secretary for the 2013 to 2014 school year. If elected secretary, I would send out emails of the meeting minutes to those who missed the meeting, in order for everyone to keep informed. In addition after the third meeting, I would email any new members a compiled handout of what FPRA does. This would eliminate time wasted repeating what current members already knew. I would also make a monthly calendar of events to keep track of, including possible deadlines for scholarships, upcoming capital chapter events, and deadlines for internships applications. This way our members stay informed and take full advantage of all the opportunities that FPRA has to offer. I feel that if elected secretary, I will ensure that information is disseminated in an organized manner and that FPRA continues to run smoothly. Thank you, Erin Schwartz

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

This quote by Benjamin Franklin resonates with me when it comes to my FPRA experience. By getting involved in FPRA, I have learned so much. This past year, I served as treasurer on the executive board and I would love to continue my job through next year as well. Now that I know exactly what goes into being the treasurer of FPRA, I am fully prepared to handle every detail of my position in the most efficient way possible. I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve as your treasurer for a whole new school year. I can’t imagine not being involved in FPRA next year, and I’m excited to pick up right where I left off!

Jen Reich

Jen Reich – Digital Coordinator Hi my name is Jen Reich and I have been a member of FPRA since I was a freshman. Currently a junior here at FSU, I can truthfully say that each year I have become more and more involved in FPRA. After attending almost every single meeting this year and going on both the fall and spring development trips, I have found FPRA to be a big part of who I am. Thus so, I would love to be apart of the FPRA executive board as the Digital Coordinator. I think I am the best candidate for this position because I have the proper skill sets, tons of leadership experience, and a profound love for FPRA. For the past year and a half I have been the Social Media Chair for my sorority. In charge of the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts it was my job to oversee and update all social media outlets. It was also my job to maintain the organization’s website, which I made personally from scratch last summer (www.fsusigdelt.org). Holding this position in my sorority has enhanced my loved for social media and has allowed me to build a strong set of interpersonal and leadership characteristics. I love working on a team and brining ideas to the table. Being apart of the FPRA executive board would mean more then just doing my specific position, it would mean working together with the other positions to make FPRA the best that it can be! With my dedication and enthusiasm, I believe I would make a great Digital Coordinator for FPRA!

Michelle Tarangelo

I am a Junior, expecting to graduate Spring 2014. My major is Media Communication Studies, however, my main focus for the future is public relations. I am hoping to move to New York City upon graduation and work in an agency setting, and eventually hope to transition into in-house public relations.

I believe I would be a great digital coordinator due to my previous experience. I was the social media intern at Harris Media, LLC in Tallahassee during my sophomore year spring semester. I was in charge of handling several platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and WordPress accounts for many House of Representative members, as well as Governor Rick Scott and Senator George Lemieux. I continued my social media experience in New York City this past summer at Joonbug Productions, a nightlife events company. I believe that this experience combined with my everyday personal use of social media would make me an excellent digital coordinator for FPRA!

Sandy Saintilus

My name is Sandy Saintilus and I’m interested in running for the Digital Coordinator Position. The digital aspects of PR have always been of interest to me and what better way to get hands on experience in this area than being the Digital Coordinator for my favorite organization FPRA. My experience is FPRA has solidified my want and need to be in the public relations world. Through our trips, meetings, and guest speakers I have learned how powerful and necessary communications is. More importantly I’ve realized the importance of social media and the impact it makes on the public. This digital medium is a driving force in PR and a force I aspire to be more acquainted with should I be elected as Digital Coordinator of FPRA. I served as Student Body President my senior year of high school and this position has prepared me for the challenges of an Executive Board position. I’ve learned how to work in a group setting and manage any problems that may arise. I know that being an officer for FPRA will require a lot more that simply attending the meetings and I’m well prepared and excited for the challenge of this new experience. If I were not elected to my desired position of Digital Coordinator I would be interested in the office of Secretary. I’ve served as secretary for two organizations in the past and am currently the secretary for the committee in my honor society. It’s a position I have experience with and am well prepared for.

Hey ! My name is Katrina Blanco and I’m running for Digital Coordinator ! I’m currently an ICT major with a passion for social media marketing and everything digital. I usually try to sit back and learn from the digital coordinators of other organizations and companies that I follow, but now I feel like it’s my turn to take hold of the ropes and utilize what I’ve acquired for my favorite organization on campus ! Aside from being exceptionally familiar with Facebook and Twitter from a personal account, I also run my own WordPress blog ( with it’s own Twitter handle and Facebook fan page, thorugh the use of Tweetdeck) and have had previous experience running the Facebook page for Paella Grill in South Florida. I would just love this opportunity to be on Exec. and would absolutely be thrilled to work with other members in FPRA to expand our digital outreach and represent FPRA the best I can.

See you all Thursday!

Sincerely,

FPRA at FSU traveled to New York City March 26- April 1. We stayed at the Park South Hotel and visited Weber Shandwick, Ruder Finn, Ketchum and Hunter PR. Here is the run down of our trip and what we learned…

Day 1

Day one was our travel day. Most arrived early to start exploring the city. We had a group meeting that night at our hotel, then most of the group went to explore the city together.

Day 2

We started day two with breakfast at the hotel. Then we headed to our first agency, Weber Shandwick. Chelsea with travel and lifestyle, and Zach with consumer marketing presented to us about their daily tasks and campaigns they have created for their clients.

Then we had lunch on our own. Our next agency visit was Ruder Finn where we learned about the company’s ethical guidelines and their internship program.

We ended our day with a social at Max Brenner. We sat at one long table together and ate delicious food and home-made chocolate!

Day 3

We started day three at Ketchum. Here we saw a presentation on case studies by an account executive and the digital director. An HR director also presented on the application process.

Hunter PR was our final agency visit of the week where we learned about case studies on Hunter’s campaigns, such as the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Cheddar EXPLOSION.

Day 4

Day four was another travel day. Most of us stayed the weekend and explored Time Square, saw Broadway shows and shopped the day away at SoHo.
