Just as a note: MODFREAKz released the diagram to read/write the NAND of the Xbox360 S, with NandPro via USB SPI.
However; This is currently not useful for end-users, as all Xbox360 Slim consoles come with new & locked CB, so the JTAG/SMC hack is not possible on these consoles. But this is of course useful for new research and who knows what the future will bring.

Dash Launch v2.00

cOz released a new version of Dash Launch for homebrew 360s:
* At time of this writing, this is ONLY compatible with freeBOOT 9199 read info_launch.ini for info on options and setting launch parameters.* This a core rewrite, major changes were done to the paths used in the ini file, the installer can update these for you if you have the old ini files accessible at the time of install. See the inlcuded sample ini files.
* The installer is now much more robust, and can even flash the appropriate patches to your console for you, all that is required is that you have installed freeboot 9199
Overview:
* It will launch a XeX or CON file from the path you specified in launch.ini as long as it’s valid
* Depending on the button you hold when the xbox is trying to load the NXE, it will divert to the xex/con tied to that button or return to default as defined in launch.ini
* Depending which button is held when closing miniblade in NXE (use Y button to close, release then hold a QL button) it will quick launch a CON or XEX from your ini file
* allows one to patch kernel/xam at bootup with a freeBOOT patch style bin file from usb or hdd (in that order) must be in root of the device and be named “kxam.patch” and be no larger than 0×4000 bytes. Again, kxam.patch binary format is the same as a compiled freeboot patch bin, but uses real virtual addresses rather than offsets – see 1.0 release for a windows patch builder
* with the included patch set, launch.xex acts as a helper to detect when xbox1 emulator loads, allowing memory unlock patch and xbox1 emulator to function together
What’s new/fixed (since v1.0):
- plugins now use logical paths just like quick launch buttons
- option subvert Y to exit miniblade while in NXE to load button/default (fixed)
- added common (9199) content and ping limit patches as options
- mostly runs in system threads, startup completes while bootanim runs
- completely subverted dash.xex, no more CD issues or NXE split seconds
- removed insistance on 0/1/2 paths and reliance on CaPs to detect
- return to NXE via miniblade for system settings and others works w/o using RB
- added big block NAND mu as possible device
- optionally subvert Y to exit miniblade while in NXE to load button/default
- added xell loader to patch set and included a xex to load xell
- removed reboot on fatal error from patches

RarTo360 v2.5

ILLusions0fGrander released RarTo360 – an ExISO.exe GUI front end that allows you to extract 360 games from RAR or ISO to 360 via FTP:
Purpose:
1. Extract a 360 game either from Rar Archive then ISO, or just ISO, over to a jtagged xbox 360 running FTP (xexmenu/FSD)
2. Renames $SystemUpdate folder to $NoUpdate (no easy way to delete it altogether via FTP without adding more code – maybe on future release)
Use:
!! Warning: Directory can only contain ONE rar archive set or ONE iso !!
To use, edit settings.conf, run RarTo360.jar, enter game name, select Rar/ISO directory, click Start button.

Node21 (Team XeDev) now released XM360 v1.9b to the public, a tool running on homebrew 360s that will allow to organize, scan and unlock XBLA and DLC content.

And now we can answer with this… Russian hacker, GameSuper, demonstrates how super he is with his game by playing any PSP game on a hacked PS3. For demonstration purposes GTA Chinatown Wars is used. How does GameSuper do it? Well that method isn’t public yet. GameSuper is setting to release a beta soon — in 2 parts: 1) a tool that’ll convert a PSP ISO to a PS3 compatible format, and 2) a homebrew app to run on your PS3 that’ll enable pspemu.
Awesome! Unless of course, you know, it’s a fake. Time will tell.

Port HBL to Your Own Game Exploit

Wololo has written a very intuitive tutorial for all the aspiring PSP developers out there. More often than not I see new users over at lan.st posting their findings — some turn up exploitable, some not. Basically if you can overwrite “ra” (return address) you’ve likely stumbled upon a user-mode exploit and you’re set. Bonus points if you find a kernel exploit. But what next once you found said exploit? Wololo answers: Port Half Byte Loader. And once you’ve done that: Email hacks @ psp-hacks with a dot com and share your work with the world. You’ll make your mother proud, my word.

To complete this tutorial, you need basic shell skills, a working pspsdk, a working game exploit and the associated binary loader / hello world, a ruby interpreter, and basic ruby skills (usually, if you know any other scripting language, you’ll figure it out easily, there are not so many changes required).

ColEm PSP v2.6.1 Released

Remember these Coleco classics: Frogger, Heist, and what about Boulder Dash? I bet you haven’t played any of those in ages, or maybe not at all… Well Akop delivers a quick blast from the past with ColEm PSP — the ColecoVision emulator — version 2.6.1, which fixes a couple nasty bugs that prevented those three roms from working. Oldtimers: relive the nostalgia. Youngins: this is how it all started.

Enable PSP Remote Play for Just About any PS3 Game

Check this out — a cool little trick that essentially enables PSP Remote Play for just about any PS3 game. Of course your PS3 must be hacked in order to modify the game’s PARAM.SFO. There have been a few reports where some games don’t work, so really it’s trial and error. Nonetheless — awesome stuff!
I haven’t tried Open Remote Play with this yet, but maybe it’ll work too. PS3 gaming on your PC — imagine that.

Half Byte Loader R100 Released

Wololo and Co. just unveiled Half Byte Loader (HBL) R100. That means homebrew on firmware 5.03 to 6.20 by way of the Patapon 2 Demo, and for those who’ve upgraded to 6.30 or 6.31 for whatever reason, you can now enjoy homebrew using Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee — the PSN or UMD version.
A few caveats with homebrew on OFW 6.30/6.31 though… Wololo notes HBL is not as stable for Hot Shots Golf as it is for the Patapon 2 demo: the homebrew menu may not appear first try, some emulators won’t run at full speed, etc. If you wish to help out, head to the source, download the dev. build and report bugs over at advancedpsp.tk.
If you’re sporting the EU version of Hot Shots Golf and HBL constantly returns you to the XMB, a possible solution is the following:

Rename the folder hbl/libs_6xx to hbl/libs
Rename the file hbl/config/imports.config_6xx to hbl/config/imports.config
Try again.

If you’re a new reader: HBL runs in user-mode space, not kernel, which means no custom firmware. Maybe one day one thing will lead to another and those doors will be axed open. Till then, happy homebrewin’.
Update: Ooops… My bad, I missed the EU version and the SAVEDATA exploits. They’re added now.

SNES9X – Super Nintendo Emulator – Ported to the PS3

Developer eiz has ported SNES9X — a Super Nintendo Emulator — to the PS3. It’s a very early port so don’t expect too much. For example (from the README):

Lots of snes9x features are not supported yet. No save states, for example. Most of these are really simple to implement.
Sound code is rubbish. It more or less works, but you’ll probably hear the occasional skip.
Performance isn’t great.
UI. Or rather, there isn’t one.

Copy your SNES ROMS to the root directory of your USB device, and then start Snes9x with the device attached to your PS3. Note: you’ll need to plug the device into the USB port nearest the eject & power button, the 1st port from the right, otherwise Snes9x will not find any roms. That’ll probably change in future versions.
After playing a few roms I gotta say, performance is pretty damn good. Props, eiz. Nice work.
Update: The download has been updated with a newly compiled version fresh from eiz’s github repository. This version allows you to select a rom directory, instead of defaulting to dev_usb000.

Play PSP Games on your PS3!

Soon. Right now it’s just video proof from GameSuper — apparently the baddest and most hardest Russian hacker around. Strapped with a camera to his head, or so it would seem, GameSuper excitingly demonstrates GTA Chinatown Wars (PSP game) on his hacked PS3.
The project is said to come in 2 parts: 1) a PC tool, which will convert any PSP ISO to a compatible PS3 format; and 2) a homebrew app (in a dot pkg) that must be launched only once in order to make the necessary changes that enable PSP gaming. Expect a beta release sometime soon, unless of course, GameSuper isn’t so super after all.
Update: As this develops it would seem GameSuper is in fact not the baddest or hardest hacker around. Several people (see comments) have debunked his claim to fame. So unless a release happens you can consider this a fake. Sorry folks.

PS3 Custom Firmware Loader – USB Firm Loader v0.2 Released

Whether you consider it the first, second or third step — it’s a step in the direction of PS3 custom firmware: JaicraB’s USB Firm Loader. Load [customized] PS3 firmware files off a USB stick in a few simple steps:

Download PS3 FTP Server. Install it. Connect.
Download and copy the entire “dev_flash” folder to your USB mass storage devices’ root directory.
Copy JaiC_USB_FIRM_LOADER.pkg to the root too.
Install USB Firm Loader.
Now run USB Firm Loader with the USB mass storage device attached; it should return you to the XMB with the firmware loaded off the USB stick.

This’ll be used for loading modified RCOs, plugins / modules, etc. USB Firm Loader v0.2 is an early release, so bugs are likely to exist. You will also need PSGroove with peek & poke sys-calls. Our compiled binaries for select AVR USB boards should work.

Update: Awesome Filemanager v0.03:

Added scrolling.
Added non-empty folder deletion.
Added a security option (normal Mode/Advanced mode) where normal mode will only allow write access in /usb_dev and /usb_hdd0/game.
Added the ability to backup up files over 4GB to external; files are split when copied to the external device; files are merged when copied back to the internal.
Fixed a hang-bug with folders with many files.

Update: Awesome Filemanager v0.02 has been released:

Now you can copy directories and delete empty directories
Copying speed has been improved

More PS3 homebrew — Comgenie’s Awesome Filemanager. How awesome? I’ll let you be the judge. Install this and you’ll be able to manage directories and files — browse, copy, delete — right from the PS3 itself.

Controls:

D-Pad to navigate
- up/down to navigate through files
- left/right to switch the active directory listing
X to enter a directory
O to copy the selected file (no directory) to the inactive directory listing.
[] to delete the selected file.

Known problems:

Not possible to copy/delete any files with spaces in it
When copying things to the external USB, the files are marked as system files. Windows will not display them unless you enable show hidden system files
Fonts are too small on a SD screen (will be fixed in the next version)
Everything “hangs” when copying till it’s done

Trophy Hacks – How to Platinum Any PS3 Game

You knew it was going to happen: Trophy Hacks! The only caveat: You can’t sync with PSN, which makes it a cool hack, for now (no online cheating). Vssiky over at nextgenupdate.com has written a detailed tutorial on how to hex edit your way to the top (of the offline world).

If/when you can sync with PSN, by whatever means, it’ll likely put you at risk of getting banned. Play honest. Don’t be a dick.

Inside the trophy collection section on your XMB, there are games represented by thier TROPUSR.DAT(s) respectively, where you can view the % of a game, what have you unlocked, etc. TROPUSR.DAT stores all of that information. Basically to get everything unlocked on a game, you will need to edit that game’s TROPUSR.DAT.
Manually editting TROPUSR.DAT can take a while to get used to. But after learning where and which byte to change, you will be able to platinum a game in no time.

You’ll need the following:

A hacked PS3 running firmware 3.41
A Hex Editor
PS3 FTP Server by CJPC
An FTP client for your PC (Windows, Mac, Linux etc.)

PSP-Mediated JailBreak Impractical

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it would seem the PSP port of PS JailBreak / PSGroove / PSFreedom, whatever you want to call it, isn’t happening anytime soon. That is unless someone else who we don’t know is hacking away at it, which is possible. Don’t get me wrong — the PSP port is not impossible, so to speak — it’s just not feasible, says the maintainer of this project page.

Discontinued. Everything indicates that this port cannot be made, even if it could, it would take too long to develop something, as well as Hermes says, leave the project unfeasible, not impossible.

Bummer. Like Mystic_Knights once said on Twitter — you can’t fight fire with fire. The good news: We’ll have more jailbreak sticks and USB boards to giveaway soon. Check back.

PSN Demo Installer & Demo Manager Released – Install PSN Content on your Hacked PS3!

I bet you’re wondering, “What the? … How the hell do you download PSN demos without PSN access?” And know this — Media GO doesn’t give you access to PS3 demos either — just PSP. But that’s all right because those shady cats over at ps3news have a whole system dedicated to PSN links. Click here and download a demo or two.
Now what? Download PSN Demo Installer and follow the instructions in Readme.txt. The end result being this: Install & play PSN demos on your hacked PS3 at 3.41. Pretty cool, huh? You can thank stadicon for the Windows app.

Update: A similar tool was just released by Waninkoko — Demo Manager v1.0. Do the same, just differently. Again check the README for instructions.

PS3 “Homebrew” Pong Released

While it may not be considered “homebrew” (read: compiled using the leaked PS3 SDK) we know this is how it all started way back in the early PSP days. First Pong and other small game demonstrations, then eventually the open source [PS3] SDK matures, then the real homebrew starts. So in the meantime, enjoy Lachrymose’s first: PS3 Pong.

Next release: 2 player support.
