Spreading the love

Since it's Valentine's Day, I thought it would be appropriate to share what's on my heart and spread a little love since it seems to be lacking in this country right now. I know I am only one person, but I am determined to change the environment around me with the words I am speaking and pray that it spreads to each and every one of you who has taken the time to stop by my little corner of the world. I read a quote recently; "change your thoughts and you change your world."

Can you imagine if each of us changed our thoughts and our words what an impact it would make not only on our own personal world, but on the entire world. Our words can be life or death (Proverbs 18:21) What have you been saying to yourselves and others? Listen, I am not condemning anyone, because I am just as guilty of falling into the habit of speaking negatively and complaining as much as the next person, but what I do know, is that when I make the choice daily to be positive, it not only affects my attitude but everyone around me as well.

A few weeks ago I made the decision to "Break" Facebook with love. Recently, many of my friends have expressed that they were wanting leave Facebook because of all of the negativity. I totally get it because I have been feeling the same way. But then, I got to thinking about it, and I have never been the type of person that just quits anything without a fight. So instead of leaving FB, I decided to "break" it with love and encouragement. I chose to do it for 21 days because "they" say if you do anything for 21 days straight, it becomes a habit right? So for the last 17 days I have been posting nothing but positive and encouraging quotes on my page, and I challenged everyone to do the same.

As of my 18th day, I am very happy to report that my news feed is once again a happy place, and my attitude is a lot better as a result of this little experiment. What are you doing to change your world? It only takes a little love to make a big difference!

Despite the rain in Maine

Yep. That's me wearing an Alpaca wool sweater in the middle of July. I had packed so many other cute outfits for our trip to Naples Maine, but unfortunately Mother Nature was not cooperating. It was a balmy 50 degrees and rainy the entire time we were there.

But it wasn't really about the weather, it was about being together as a family. We were there visiting my Aunt and Uncle and cousins who we don't see often enough, and we weren't going to let a little rain stop us. So, Despite the weather, we were still able to go out on their boat, my husband got a little fishing in, and I got a little retail therapy in with with the girls (hence, the lobstah sweatah). There was no way I was leaving it in the store! That baby was coming home with me! Oops! Got off track. It's not about the sweater! It's not about the sweater! It's about family right? I think I love this sweater as much as I love my family. Is that possible? Sorry not sorry!

All kidding aside, we really did have a lovely time, and to tell you the truth, I am kind of happy that it rained the entire time because it forced us all to be inside together where we spent hours catching up, laughing, relaxing, and making fun memories.

I read somewhere that "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but it's about learning to dance in the midst of the rain" and that the sun doesn't always have to be out to be thankful for what I have.

I am so thankful for the awesome family God has given me.

I know summer isn't over yet, but I just I thought I would give you a quick preview of what's hot for fall. Think deep emerald greens and metallics. Yes. I said metallics! I know many people freak out when they hear that word associated with clothing, but there is no reason to be afraid of incorporating metallics into your wardrobe this season, as long as you treat them as a neutral. Don't think studio 54 gold jumpsuit, think beautiful green lace top paired with a brushed gold leather skirt. If you don't feel comfortable with the metallic trend just yet, start with smaller pieces, such as a pair of shoes, handbag, or even by layering mixed metal jewelry (I can almost feel the fear melting off of you as I write these words). And can we please talk about the beautiful green hues that we are starting to see everywhere, from fashion runways to furniture. It looks great with every skin tone and even goes great as a pop of color in your home. On the bright side, even though the leaves will soon be changing, we can still continue enjoying our green through the fall and winter months.

I Promise

As most of you already know, my husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in May. We have been home for two months now, and I still can't bring myself to switch my watch back to East Coast time, and we have also been binge watching Hawaii 5-0 since we have been home. Yes. I know, we're nerds.

When we were planning for our momentous occasion, we kept going back and forth between a trip, or a big party. I mentioned kind of casually to my husband, hey why don't we renew our vows in Hawaii and bring our best friends Pastor Dan and Margaret Hand with us, and then they can perform the ceremony. Before I knew it, he was dialing their number to see if they were available.

We have known this wonderful couple for 20 years, and they have been with us through it all. So it was an honor to have them with us to celebrate this special milestone. What an amazing trip! We met so many great people, and many of them wanted to know our secret to being married for 20 years. Simply said, God is at the center of our marriage. Yes. We have had our rough patches, and still do every once in awhile, but we work through them and pray them together and our marriage is even stronger now than it has ever been.

A few months ago, a very wise man and dear friend (Pastor Larry Hand) celebrated his 51st wedding Anniversary. His post on Facebook stuck with me and I think it's worth repeating. Here is his response to the many couples that think it's unusual to be married that long:

"I hear so often that marriage is hard, life is so hard. I don't think marriage or life is hard. I believe we make it hard by the way we allow ourselves to act, and say things that hurt and destroy each other. Actions and words will either build or tear down what you have. It's a choice. I preach often that marriage is the least place where the fruit of the spirit is practiced, and the greatest place where it is needed most. The greatest key is to never give up, family is too valuable".

Wow! If that doesn't make you ponder a little bit, right? Is there fruit in your marriage or relationship?

WORK OUT MODE

I don't know about you, but I am not one to spend hours at the gym, and when it comes to my work out routine, I want the most bang for my buck in the least amount of time. A friend of mine shared an app with me about a year ago, and I am embarrassed to say, I only just started utilizing it 5 weeks ago in hopes that I will be toned for our trip to Hawaii in May.

The 7 minute workout challenge (7 MWC) is life changing (and body changing)!!! I have been so happy with the results that I canceled my gym membership. You don't need a lot of space or a lot of time, and you can do it anywhere. I do two rounds every morning, and the order of the exercises changes each time you workout. Diet is also a big part of working out so I have cut out all (bad) carbs and sweets and I don't eat anything after 8pm. This work out is excuse proof because everyone has 7 minutes and I know it may not feel like it, but swimsuit season is right around the corner! (Yikes!!) So get downloading, get your 7 minutes on, and get into the best shape of your life!

Game On!

When it comes to choosing the winning team for the big game, I usually pick the team based on the color and style of their uniforms (insert eye roll), but this year there is no debating which team we will be rooting for on Sunday, since my husband went to High School with Ron Rivera. So, the Panthers it is!!! I like the color of their uniforms better anyway. (Sorry Broncos). Super Bowl Sunday is all about comfort mixed with style. I am not a football jersey wearing girl, so I decided to show my Panther support by putting my own personal spin on it.

Although I may not be a huge football fan (all of you die hard football lovers might want to cover your ears), I still enjoy dressing up to show my team spirit, and when TickPick asked me to share my game day style, I jumped at the chance! Count it all Joy!

I am absolutely loving this California December we have been having! These pics were obviously taken a few months ago when I styled one of my favorite summer dresses for the colder weather (which hasn't arrived yet, and I'm not complaining).

It's amazing how easy it is to be joyful when the temps are milder, things are going exactly how we planned, and life is good, isn't it? Being joyful in all things is definitely not easy. I failed that test big time when my suitcase went missing(it's still lost by the way) at Newark Airport upon returning from our trip to California last month. I wasted many precious hours of my life arguing with the airline and getting absolutely nowhere, my missing suitcase was consuming my every thought and starting to rent space in my head, so I finally surrendered it all to God in order to move on from it,. Sure this whole incident was extremely disappointing, but it's not life or death, and I will replace most of my things at some point, but did I handle the situation with joy? Not really. Lesson learned.

James 1: 2-3 says, Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. Verse 5 continues with this; If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. The beautiful thing about God, is that he gives us grace to draw a line in the sand and start over each and every day.

This is the season for Joy, but I also recognize that this time of year can also be very difficult for many, some of you may be going through trials right now where you feel like your faith is really being tested, but count it all joy, because He will never leave you or forsake you, and His light will always shine through the darkness.

For us a child is born,

to us, a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jump Into The Holidays!

The mild weather we have been having, makes it hard to believe it's almost Christmas in NJ, and I love the fact that I can carry some of my favorite warm weather pieces into the fall and winter this year. This jumpsuit is one of my favorites, and unfortunately it is also one of the items that was packed in my suitcase that is currently missing in Newark Airport somewhere, (sigh). When I found it online at shopmaude.com I fell in love with the pattern and the style, but I wasn't sure about the pant leg. It looked a little wider than what I am used to wearing, but It was on sale for $25 reduced from $100, so I figured I could always alter it if I didn't like it. When I received it and tried it on, I decided I really didn't like the wide pant leg, so I did end up altering it, and now I love it even more with the elastic bottoms because it's comfortable, yet versatile enough to dress up or down.

I was going to write a quick post about my outfit, and then I started thinking about the word alter. I looked up the definition: Alter- to change or make different; modify, to change or become different, to cause a transformation.

Sometimes we have to make some alterations in our life if we want things to be different. Change isn't change until we change, right? It's amazing how when we just do one small thing differently than we have in the past, we are more productive.

Right now I am at a point in my life where I'm trying to figure out how God wants to use me. If you have noticed I haven't been posting as much as I use to. I work all day on a computer, and the last thing I feel like doing when I get home is sitting in front of one again( just being honest), but the funny thing is, when I neglect my blog, I feel kind of incomplete. I know that may sound silly, but I actually do love posting, it just takes me some time to gather my thoughts, and if all of you fabulous people are going to take the time out to read this, it better be something worth reading!

In my last post I told you that I would be changing my daily routine up a little bit, and I have been.

I started reading Terri Savelle Foy's book Imagine Big and can't get enough of it. I bought the box set which includes several cd's on different subjects. The Clutter Clean Out is the one I am currently listening to and she talks about being more efficient by using the 20 minutes you do have rather than worrying about the hour you don't have. It's so true isn't it? We have all of these unfinished projects taking up space in our heads because when we think about getting them done, we get overwhelmed and never complete them. It really is amazing what tasks you can accomplish in 20 minutes. So far I have cleaned out my makeup drawer, my closets and junk drawer, and now since these projects are no longer taking up mental space in my head, I can work on my goals and the bigger things I want to accomplish.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, it's time to start thinking about making our lists and checking them twice, and when it comes to shopping, especially this time of year, I prefer to stay local. The nice thing about shopping the small boutiques is that there are fewer crowds, more parking, and you can take your time shopping in a more peaceful and personable environment without having to feel rushed.

Fall Into Florals

Fall came way too quickly this year, and I don't know about you, but I could use about two more months of warm weather, because I'm not ready to give up wearing my favorite floral dress yet ( yes, this is the same dress from my last post), so I came up with a way to get more mileage out of it, by styling it for the cooler months.

It's all about change. Changing things up, and breathing new life into the old pieces. Speaking of change, this scripture really spoke to me during a recent sermon at my church:

Then Jesus gave them this illustration: "No one tears a peice of cloth from a new garment and uses it to patch an old garment. For then the new garment would be ruined, and the old patch wouldn't even match the old garment.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the new wine would burst the wine skins spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine must be stored in new wineskins, But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. The old is just fine, they say". Luke 5:36-39

My translation: New wineskins were important because they were more pliable which would allow the wine to expand as it aged, whereas old wineskins were more rigid and would not let the wine expand, causing the skins to burst and the wine to spill out. Here Jesus is talking about being stuck in our old ways or habits, etc., and like those old wineskins, there is no room to stretch for a fresh touch of the spirit, new mindset, or idea. We need to keep our heart's pliable in order to receive everything that God has for us.

As I said in my last post, September has always been the month of change for me. I am determined to keep my heart open to all that God has for me, and to do that, I have started with the small things first:

1. Going to bed earlier

2. Waking up earlier

3. Reading scripture and my devotional first before I hit the ground running, which will set my attitude for the day. (Mind)

4. Spending time in prayer for others. (Spirit)

5. Working out more. (Body)

6. Making a list of what I need to accomplish for the day.

God says, if you are faithful in the small things, I will bless you with the big things. (Luke 16:10)

I know this sounds really corny, but that song from one of the Brady Bunch episodes keeps running through my mind:( I apologize if you're not old enough to know what I'm talking about)

"When it's time to change you've got to rearrange, who you are, and what your gonna be."

I never really stopped to think about the lyrics to this song, but they are so true. If you want to be somewhere different in your life 5 years from now, what are some of the little things that you can change so that God can trust you with the big things?

Dream Big

With another amazing summer behind us, it's time to usher in another new season. For many, including myself, September has always been the month of change. For some, It's the start of a new school year with new teachers, perhaps even a new school, oh and we can't forget the best part; a new wardrobe. With that being said, September seems like the perfect month to reset my goals, reprioritize, and dream.

In July, I had the opportunity to attend a DREAM conference hosted by my beautiful fashion stylist, and author friend, Gina LaMorte. The weather and the location couldn't have been more perfect! It's kind of hard not to dream when you're staring out at the bay on a beautiful summer afternoon. The fact that God created such a vast body of water, and yet put such specific dreams in each and everyone of our hearts is just amazing to me, and it reminded me of a conversation I had with a dear friend of mine a couple of years ago when I was praying about something specific in my life. She said to me, " We have a God who deals in specifics, so go ahead and pray that prayer!"

God placed a specific dream in Gina's heart years ago for this Dream Conference, but it didn't happen over night. It happened in His perfect timing. Sometimes we have to wait, which is not easy in this world of instant gratification, but when we do wait, and continue to be obedient to him by working hard and not giving up on our dreams while we are in the waiting stage, he will bless us beyond what we could ever think or imagine! God's word says that we can live an abundant life. He doesn't put a dream in our hearts to tease us or leave us unfulfilled! He wants to see us walk out those dreams, but, the key is to rely on him. Am I saying you won't fulfill your dreams and goals if you don't rely on God? No not at all, but why not rely on the one who has planted that specific dream in your heart to guide your steps, as you walk out His purpose for your lives?

When I met Gina I was struggling with the idea of starting my blog. I talked about it a lot, probably too much, because then the doubts started creeping into my thought process (I'm too old, nobody will read it, and on, and on). Gina asked me one question; what are you afraid of? Success? and gave me a quote to read by Marianne Williamson which I read everyday until it completely turned my thought process around.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

It has been a little over two years since I launched Fabreview, and I am enjoying every minute, but right now, I am in another waiting stage where I believe God is preparing me for something even bigger, and it is in this waiting, that I will continue use the gifts he has given to be a light to others for his glory.

Time

Time...... We never seem to have enough of it, do we? Recently a friend asked me, have you posted anything on your blog lately, or did I just miss it? My response : "Work and my personal life are so busy, that I just haven't had the time." Then... the guilt sets in. Maybe I do have the time, and just need to manage it better. Could I be spending less time on social media (guilty) and more time blogging? Probably! Do I love spending time with family and friends? Yes! Do I want to spend more time sowing into peoples lives in person, rather than sitting in front of a computer? Yes! Do I love fashion, writing and blogging? Yes!!! Do you see my predicament? How do I combine all of the things I love to do into one God driven purpose? I have so many questions, and that's where God comes in.

Confusion is not from God, so I decided to turn to the bible for some direction and found a scripture that really spoke to me. Proverbs 16:3 Commit to Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Pretty simple right? God will guide my steps, but I have to first put in the effort and eliminate distractions and procrastination, and focus on what he wants for my life, and most of all, try very hard not to waste one minute on negativity, and the things that are not moving me towards my dreams and goals.

Whether you are seeing your dreams come to fruition now, or you're still trying to figure it all out, God has a plan for you, and It's just a matter of putting that plan into action and by taking the time to listen to that still small voice ( there may be some waiting involved, so be patient), taking the time talk to God (he loves it when his kids talk to him), and taking the time to enjoy every minute of the journey he has you on. Our lives are a gift from God, and what we do with them, is our gift back to him.

Busy, busy, busy!!!! Between the busy-ness of work and my own life, I haven't been posting much lately, and I don't see things slowing down any time soon, which means my future posts may be a little more pics and a little less writing(hope you don't mind) I'm just changing things up a bit, but not stopping.

Versatility, that's what I want from my summer wardrobe, and this shirt dress has just that! It takes me from work to play with ease, just by switching up a few of my accessories.

Be Your per-fékt you!

It was a harsh winter to say the least, and I am so happy that summer has finally arrived (we kind of skipped spring this year) Seriously though, the weather, this year in particular, has really reeked havoc on my skin, and I have been on the hunt for products that will protect, hydrate, and keep my skin looking and feeling good all day, as we move into the warmer months.

I discovered the Perf-ékt beauty line purely by accident, when I popped into Ulta for a few staples, and was approached by Suzie Q Rigante,(love her!) the National education and events manager for the brand. She asked If she could refresh my makeup (Was my winter doldrum skin that obvious?). There are so many things that I love about this line, but the most important to me, is that I saw instant results, and seeing is believing. As soon as Suzie applied the skin perfection gel to my face, my skin immediately felt smoother and looked brighter. I was sold!

Every tanning other product I have tried has either turned my orange, or has been so streaky that I look like a freshly stained piece of furniture (not a good look). I have very fair skin and several imperfections, so I was looking for a product that was going to diminish those imperfections, but also give me a natural tan. I have a condition called "chicken skin"- tiny little red dots on my legs and the back of my arms, kind of resembling chicken skin (hence the name.) I got made fun of a lot in middle school, which resulted in me being very self conscious of my skin pretty much all of my life, and it was only just a couple of years ago, when I decided to embrace my fair skin, flaws and all, and now, thanks to the the body perfection gel/tan, I can wear all of the shorts, and cute dresses I want this summer!

The entire Per-fékt line is amazing , but there is one product in particular that I love. The Body perfection gel/tan is hands down the best "one size fits all" tanning product I have come across in my search. It's one of the easiest products to use, and it doubles as a moisturizer that smooths and tones with no smell, no streaking, no waiting for it to dry, no transfer (I can literally put my clothes on right after applying it) and the results are, Perf-éktion! My skin has a sun kissed glow, my flaws are diminished, and it leaves my skin looking and feeling silky and smooth. It does not disappoint. Trust me, you will be addicted!

Shine Bright Like The Son

I don't normally write in depth about my faith. You may see small traces of it present in some of my posts, but lately, I've been really wanting my writing to be more faith filled( Don't get scared, I promise, I won't be preaching to you! Can I get an Amen up in here!) For the last few weeks I have been feeling a tug at my heart, an almost underlying sadness, that I can't quite seem to put my finger on. Could it be hormonal(I'm at that age), the weather (NJ's never ending winter)? Could it be the fact that there are so many people close to me that are struggling financially, physically, and emotionally? I don't know,but I do know that I am definitely burdened by all of these things, and I believe it goes much deeper.

I have officially named the Easter season, my weepy time of year, as I think about the sacrifice that Christ made for me. Good Friday has always wrecked me spiritually and emotionally(in a good way). When my brothers and I were kids, my mom would take Good Friday very seriously. Between 12 and 3, she would have us sit quietly and separately to think about what Jesus did on the cross for us. Can we be honest?, at that age I didn't find the whole idea that appealing, or fun, to say the least, but I'm glad she took the time to teach us about Jesus, because as I got older and my faith grew deeper, I realized how much He is in everything I do. He is what drives me everyday. He is the reason, I am who I am.

As you all know from my last post, I have been working through some "stuff", and it always amazes me how God brings me answers right when I need them, whether it's through His word, a song, a word of wisdom from a friend or a fellow blogger, or even from the pages of a magazine (yes, that has happened). It's important to Him that I don't stay stagnant in this negative thought process. I am important to Him, (and so are you, by the way. xo), and at the end of the day, that's all that matters, right? So, as I have been pondering these things, and asking God how this fun little space I call Fabreview can make a difference in this world, the word encouragement keeps popping into my head.
If even just one of you has been encouraged by what I pour out onto these pages, I will be happy girl. I'm not quite sure where God is taking me or this blog, but I know I am enjoying the ride, and I hope you are too!

So consider Fabreview a place where you can come, kick off your heels, and get encouraged. I'm here, whether you need prayer, an encouraging word, and of course some fashion and beauty tips!

I'm Still Here

Howdy!! Yep it's me! Just checking in to let you know that I'm still here. I think I'm finally emerging from hibernation mode. To be honest with you, between my busy job, and the freezing temps, I haven't felt like doing much of anything, and lately, I have really been struggling with comparison and guilt. Comparing myself to other bloggers who are half my age, and who do this as their full time career, and the guilt of not posting as much I should. I only have myself to blame for this thought process, because there is no rule that says I need to post something everyday. My blog, my rules, right? So, I have come to the realization that I am pretty content with my life, and that God has me right where he wants me, right now, in this moment, and I need to enjoy it and not feel guilty about it.

I started this blog as a creative outlet for my love of fashion and writing, not for any other reason. I do it for fun, and to encourage woman of all ages, but If I don't post something every week, I need to be okay with it, and I hope you're okay with it. I know you all have such busy lives, and I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by my little corner of the world, and I hope that you leave feeling encouraged. So, with all of that being said, I think it's time for me to hit refresh, clean out my closet, and get inspired for warmer weather!

Scottish Roots

I am finally getting around to posting the pics from our trip to Scotland. I wanted to do this months ago, but, you know... life happens. Since Robert Burns Day was January 25th, I guess my timing couldn't be better. Check out how the Scot's celebrate with a traditional Burns supper.

I have always been proud of my Scottish heritage (insert Mel Gibson shouting FREEDOM at the end of Brave heart here), and I have my parents, and my Dad's cousins in Scotland to thank for that! Every summer, as a child, I would look forward to their fun filled visits. My memories are filled with love, lots of laughter, and yummy treats from overseas. It was fun while it lasted, but eventually, we all became adults, and life got busier and busier, and we don't get to see each other as often we would like to, but thanks to Facebook, we are all reconnected again, and are closer than ever, which brings me to the reason for this post... A Scottish wedding!

When my cousin Karen got engaged, my husband and I thought it would be a great excuse to visit everyone again (wedding crashers), and so we did!

This post is chock full of pics! I couldn't help myself! It's just a little taste of Scotland, a country that is near and dear to my heart, and I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance.

Even In The Rain

Fashion never stops, even in the rain, and who would have thought an umbrella would accessorize an outfit so well! Recently, I have been utilizing the items in my closet instead of buying new. This vest is one of my favorites that I picked up for next to nothing at a local consignment shop a couple of years ago, and I still love it! It's unique, but at the same time very classic.

It's days like today when I find myself feeling a tiny bit envious of my fellow fashion bloggers who live in warmer climates. Freezing rain is not necessarily the best element to take photographs in, so, "when in Rome"(or NJ), right? I actually didn't mind it. Besides, the cold air was a welcome change from being couped up in the house all day. It was also a great chance to show off my new Vince Camuto coat that I have not taken off since I received it in the mail last week. I'm obsessed! Someone at work told me, if I was a coat, It would be this one! LOL! Apparently it fits my personality.

Out With The Old ~ In With The New

Ringing in the New Year should always require a little sparkle, don't ya think?

As the end of another year comes to a close, I just wanted to say thank you, to all of my Fab followers. Without you, Fabreview wouldn't exist. Your encouragement, support, and love is what fuels this little happy place.

Happy Thanksgiving! It's official! Winter is here! The white stuff (snow) is back, and we are home for the holidays! What are your Thanksgiving plans? I will be hosting this year, and although my least favorite place to be is in the kitchen, it will be fun having my mom by my side to help. Not to sound corny and cliche, but every year at this time, as all of my cherished holiday memories come flooding back, I seem to become more conscious of how very fortunate I have been in my life. Today, for me is about sharing, laughing and enjoying every second with my amazing family, and speaking of family, I want to say a big thankful to you, my Fabreview family, for taking the time out from your busy schedules to stop by and support and encourage me. The Art Of Perfume

It never crossed my mind that perfume could be considered a form of art , until I attended a Master class with renowned perfume designer, Francis Kirkdjian. He is no stranger to the industry, and has worked for, and collaborated with many well known designers and fragrance houses. He is extremely passionate about what he does, and that is very evident in each one of his scents. He believes one should have a perfume that fits each moment of their lives, from casual to couture. For Francis, creating a scent is just as personal as choosing one, and that is why he doesn't believe that a person has to have a "signature scent" (thank goodness, because I have about 10 signature scents!)

THE PROCESS:
Francis gets his inspiration from the people he meets and the cultures he is exposed to as he travels.
He starts with a general idea and once he thinks of the name, he begins to think about how the scent relates to him personally. For example: Aqua Universalis, one of his scents, reminds him of laying in the sun, and the smells in that moment (fig trees, water). He experiments with his raw materials until he comes up with what is in his head.

In the Master class, he broke down the notes in a women's(féminin Pluriel) and men's fragrance,(masculine Pluriel) and had us experience each scent on it's own, and then the combined notes in the final fragrance, and voilá! a masterpiece is born!

He compared spraying his fragrances to starting a race. Some notes are faster than others. The first to appear, are the top notes( first 5 min.), then the mid notes(mid-day), and then the trail note (the trail that you leave in the air, that Francis says, is like "the melody of a song that you can't get out of your head." I love that! Why wouldn't we want to leave a trail of loveliness behind us as we move through through our busy lives? You can experience Francis's full line of fragrances at Neiman Marcus stores or on his website. I can't get enough of the Aqua Vitae, and I know you are going to fall in love with his fragrances. Enjoy!

I hope you all had a fun and safe weekend!

Although it was a chilly one, I have really been enjoying every second of this gorgeous fall weather we have been having, and trying not to think about what the Farmers Almanac is predicting as far as the amount of sn** we may get this year (I can't even say the word). In preparation for the cold, I have started my annual layering with this Michael Kors moto Jacket that I scored at Nordstrom Rack over the summer for $150! What's your favorite way to layer?
