This set of triplets are from the Class of 2026 (and yes, they’re my kids!) and huge baseball players and fans. When trying to think of a great location for some senior pictures of them, I discovered you can do a photo session at The K – SOLD!

For 90 minutes one day last August (2025), we were privately escorted around to our favorite spots in Kauffman Stadium. We hit the dugout, press room, press box, top of the 3rd base side dugout, the outfield, and right underneath Crown Vision. While there, we even spied Cole Ragans doing a little flat ground throwing as part of his rehab work from last year (you can see him down on the field in the shots from the outfield fence). All around an absolutely epic morning!

Today’s family though? Not only did they reach out about doing newborn photos now that their boys had been discharged, but they were willing to drive all the way from St Joseph to Overland Park for the session.

Yes, they are drastically different sizes. Look at the cheeks and rolls starting on these sweet boys though! When their mom showed me these two onesies (used to announce the pregnancy), I knew exactly which backdrop to photograph them on. All the love for the Rainbow Babies!

I photographed them a couple of times while they were in the NICU, and here’s what they looked like at that last NICU session (about 6 weeks before their newborn photo session with me).

At the newborn session I finally was able to meet their incredibly sweet and outgoing older brother! These three are going to have so much fun together as they grow up!

As always, Mom experienced some pampering while The Piercing Beauty handled her hair and makeup.

Beautiful babies aside, you know what I also want you all to notice? These boys were clearly way over the “magical” 2 weeks that so many photographers ask babies to be for a newborn session! This isn’t the first time I have happily taken much older babies and it won’t be the last. If you’ve been told your baby is “too old” for a true newborn session, please keep calling photographers until you find one who will say “yes”! If you’re in the Kansas City area or willing to travel to me (or have me travel to you!) then I’d love to be your photographer.

Back in 2011 when I was dreaming up this business, I absolutely, positively did not want to just be “Helen Ransom Photography”. I wanted to be unique. I wanted to stand out in the sea of Your Name Photography businesses. I wanted to set a neutral foundation so that should this little Kansas City photography business grow and grow, I would have the option to easily sell it when I decided it was time to retire.

When I announced the Faces You Love Photography name back in June of 2011, people LOVED it, and I don’t think they were just saying that to build me up. Over the years I’ve heard so many positive comments and compliments regarding my business name! “Oh, I love your name so much!” or “What a great name for a photographer!”

Know what else I’ve heard?

I’ve heard it called “Faces of Love”. And “Faces I Love”. And “Faces to Love”.

So even though I tried to make it easy, it clearly could still be messed up!

For the last several years I have been working on “networking” more. I needed to meet people in various stages of life, and had a deep desire to connect with more women in business especially (surround yourself with people you want to be like, and all that!). The more folks I met, the weirder I realized I felt introducing myself AND saying my business name. I realized this past summer that nearly every person I met through networking events just knew me by my real name, not my business name. Shouldn’t I make it easy for them to refer me to others? (Obviously the correct answer here is “yes!”.)

One other thought that came into play for me… Over the last 6 years, I’ve had headshots and branding sessions become a larger percentage of my work. Last year, headshot sessions and branding sessions made up 20% of my work, and some years it makes up close to 35% of my work. I’ve always felt the Faces You Love name (and the lamb in my logo) was a little cutesy for the professional headshots line of my work. Awesome for babies and families, but a little bit of a mismatch for the other side of my business!

So there you have it… I’m excited to see how this re-brand goes for me, and hope this will make it easier for you to recommend me to others who would need and love my photography services! All of my social media handles have been changed to reflect the new Helen Ransom Photography name, and I’m ready to wow you, whether you are looking for photos in Kansas City or anywhere else around the country you want me to travel to!

Final note? My new logo was made by one of my boys, Tyler! He’s been taking graphic design classes in high school these last two years and plans to study that in college next year (the where is still TBD, because he’s also trying to find his baseball fit). I was thrilled when he said “yes” to creating a new logo for me, and he also was nice enough to weigh in on my website design as I was working on it!

After much deliberation and consideration, I’ve made the tough decision to not renew my studio lease. Did you know commercial leases are typically 3-5 years long (at least)? My lease is up on August 31st, and renewing would have meant committing to my very large monthly rent and expenses through August of 2028. Here’s the thing, I have big goals for this business and if I continue renting it will only delay the attaining of those goals. By making the hard decision to step back from studio ownership for a brief period, it will help propel me towards my ultimate goals that much faster!

So what’s next?

I’ll continue working out of my Indian Creek Parkway studio through the end of August, so let’s get you scheduled! (And pssst – my studio mini days in August will be $100 off!)

Beginning in September, sessions will happen in a variety of locations all depending on client needs: I may rent studio space (plenty of choices around the metro), I may set up in your business or home, I may think outside the box and rent an event space or co-working conference room. Bottom line: your needs will continue to be met and service will exceed your expectations!

There will be a large studio garage sale happening the weekend of August 23rd! Be watching my social media channels for that info and to see what goodies I’ll be parting with.

Whether this temporary situation lasts only a couple of months, six months (like last time I did this), or a year, I’m confident that it’s the best move for the health, vitality, and future of Faces You Love!

Cost: $390 for the session and 3 portraits of your choice, received both digitally and printed. Package upgrades available to give you more images to love.

How long is the session: I’ll have you in and out in 20 minutes or less!

You all already know about the fun costume parties around Halloween, and the precious gifts and Santa photos around Christmas… This summer we give you tiny olympians!

Big shout out to March of Dimes coordinator Ashley for the intense behind the scenes work she does for all of these sessions, shout out to the nurses who carefully dress and position all of these babies for us (I never pose or touch babies in the NICU), and a shout out to the volunteer(s) who made all of these little costumes! Each family got to keep the costume and medal, and as a former NICU parent myself, I know how fun that will be for them to pull out years down the road.

This Year – instead of paying a $99 fee to book and then purchasing a package, you’ll just buy that smallest package up front and will have the option to upgrade it at your ordering appointment! This saves you about $100 from what you spent last fall on mini sessions.

FAQ

• How many people may I bring to this session? Can I bring my 3rd cousin, once removed? Mini sessions are best when used for your immediate family! If you have other family members you’d like a few pictures with, please consult with Helen before booking; the solution may be for you to book back to back sessions, but we like to take this on a case by case basis.
• What’s included with the booking fee? Your session time and 3 digital files of your choice at the ordering appointment, plus I’ll throw in small, matted print copies of each ordered image. Upgrades/extra images will be available for purchase.
• Can I bring my new baby? What about a cake for my one year old? Definitely “no” to the cake, and the new baby is a “sort of”. I won’t pose your new baby on their own, especially given that we’ll be outside, but am happy to capture family and sibling photos of all of you!
• How long is the session? I have you in and out in 20 minutes max! Maybe that’s why dads are often on board with a mini….
• Will we have time for individual photos? Absolutely! Whether those individuals are for each child, a few maternity portraits, or simply because you need an updated headshot, we’ll have time for those individual poses plus group poses.
• How soon are the pictures ready? We’ll be ready for your ordering appointment the week after your session, and once you’ve chosen and purchased your favorites, the turn around time ranges from 1 week to 4 weeks, depending on what you purchased (shorter time for just digitals, longer time if you wanted wall art).
• My kids’ sports schedules aren’t out yet for the fall, what if they have a game on our session day? This is a super common situation, and as a sports parent myself I totally empathize! Many times over the years, parents have gotten lucky and the date and time picked doesn’t collide with games scheduled the same day. In the situations where a sports schedule comes out and we discover a conflict, I have always been able to move that family to an earlier or later time, or even a swap with someone on the other mini session date. Don’t stress – I’ll take care of you!

As you can see, these are the many faces we love on this one-year-old. We can handle the range of emotions, whether that’s happy, sad or indifferent. I think we can agree the first taste of icing set the tone for the rest of the day.
