Apparue dans les années 1970, la réaffectation de petites et moyennes industries à des fins de logement est de nos jours encore souvent marquée par un traitement de surface, une finition brute héritée du passé et des arts de vivre qui correspondent mal aux aspirations d’aujourd’hui. Si la plupart des observateurs en sont bien conscients, il faut reconnaître que sortir des sentiers battus, oser l’expression esthétique forte couplée à une finition très poussée est ici plus difficile que pour d’autres projets tant les idées préconçues sur la manière d’aménager un « loft » peuvent paraître aussi tenaces qu’elles sont faussement contemporaines. Dans le cadre du loft Kempart, le programme est simple : aménager un espace de vie pour un couple sans enfant dans un comble dépendant d’un atelier de boulangerie industrielle désaffecté. Outre les nécessaires aménagements techniques, nos propositions portent essentiellement sur la distribution, la fonctionnalité et la sensibilité du lieu.

Le module en aluminium

Nous avons dans un premier temps dégagé l’espace au maximum et déplacé les entraits de la charpente qui a été renforcée par des plats métalliques enchâssés dans les arbalétriers. L’espace ouvert de 154 m2 a été alors structuré par l’implantation d’un module aux formes arrondies. Ce module loge deux salles de bains, divers rangements, une toilette et dissimule les systèmes d’isolation et d’aération.

L’espace créé autour du module se retrouve virtuellement partagé pour répondre aux différentes fonctions et offrir diverses ambiances. Les fonctions sont, dans l’ordre depuis l’entrée :  hall, bureau, salon, cuisine, salle à manger, chambre à coucher et dressing. Le salon est orienté coté sud tandis que la chambre est au nord.

Le design du module est exclusif : l’étude de son profil, le choix de l’aluminium pour carrosser la structure et ses finitions très soignées l’apparentent à l’esthétique aérodynamique des caravanes américaines Airstream. Nous avons en outre fait appel à l’artiste plasticien Jean Glibert pour le choix des teintes saturées des pièces d’eau visibles du dehors par trois hublots qu’il est possible d’opacifier. Ces apports chromatiques viennent dynamiser l’architecture intérieure dominée par l’usage généralisé de la couleur blanche qui réfléchit la lumière indirecte et souligne la peau d’aluminium brossé. La pureté des lignes et des tonalités induit un sentiment d’immatérialité renforcé par un mobilier sobre et technologique dont le design nous a également été confié. Une attention particulière a été portée à l’implantation des baies vitrées et à la qualité des vues délivrées depuis le salon : dans la perspective d’une rue et sur la terrasse dont la surface équivaut aux deux tiers de la surface totale du loft. La terrasse vient presque doubler l’espace de vie et offre à ses habitants un contact direct avec le quartier.

Richard Guilhem et son chef de projet Denis Bodino ont conçu et réalisé cette belle
résidence privée située sur la Californie à Cannes.La villa C comme elle se nomme, affiche sa différence dans ce quartier résidentiel, tout en s’intégrant avec élégance dans un écrin de verdure.
Les architectes ont pris le parti de l’épure et du minimalisme : le bâtiment de forme géométrique aux lignes rigoureuses, allie savamment les matériaux naturels tels le béton, la pierre naturelle, le verre, le bois dans de justes proportions.
La conception intérieure possède d’indéniables qualités d’espace et de circulation autour d un patio, véritable colonne vertébrale du bâtiment.
Le patio, structure cubique et transparente apporte une note poétique et insolite à chaque niveau de La villa.
En fait, chaque détail architectural a été soigneusement étudié, la lumière naturelle est valorisée dans toutes les pièces, captée par une succession d’ouvertures vitrées horizontales, verticales, et zénithales.

Richard Guilhem, and his project manager Denis Bodino, conceived and achieved this beautiful private residence located in Cannes-La Californie. The Villa C, as it is named, shows bot hits differences in this residential area and elegantly integrates the green setting. The architects choose extreme simplicity and minimalism. This geometrical shaped building, with its precise lines cleverly harmonizes natural substances, such as concrete, stone, glass, and wood in exact proportions. The interior possesses undeniable qualities of space and movement around the patio, which is the actual spinal columm of the building.
The patio, a cubic and transparent structure, brings an unusual and poetic note to each level of the villa. In fact, each architectural detail has been precisely analyzed. The natural light is valurized in each room, by a succession of zenithal, horizontal, and vertical openings. The 480m2 of living space in this set of rooms make it an ideal and modern sweet home.

The Spike chair is unique in shape. The seat and seat back are fashioned from a number of rods, like a bed of nails, which collectively mimic the curve of a body. The base of the chair is made of tubular steel, welded together with a three-millimetre steel base plate. The upper section is made of turned ash components.
Alexander Lervik gained inspiration for his new chair during a trip to the Philippines. »One day it poured with rain. Raining stair rods, as they say, and that’s exactly how it was. The shafts of rain resembled slanted lines and in that rain I suddenly saw the outlines of Spike in front of me, » says Alexander.
He had long intended creating a follow-up to Red Chair (2005) when the image of Spike suggested itself in the rain on the Philippines. Spike, like its predecessor, will only be sold in a limited edition. It is not suited to mass production due to its unique shape, but, as with Red Chair, should be seen as an artistic object for those interested in design.
« There is a sense of freedom in being inspired by the rain, seeing a shape and working from that. Otherwise I have to take into account stackability, weight and other practical elements that are essential in a mass-produced product. I believe that the total freedom of projects like Spike makes me a better designer of commercial products, » says Alexander.
To make the chair ergonomic it was necessary for the rods to be produced in a number of different shapes. The 60 rods vary in length, with 30 different sizes in total.

« I wanted to create a sculptural chair with a strong graphic identity. It was a challenge to make Spike comfortable despite its distinctive appearance, » says Alexander.

The « Y » collection is expressed with light lines and the smooth, thin edge of the table top.

The X House project aims to solve by the definition of a system, language, or even through a unique form, a number of inquiries that rise up when we read the specific given site: how to protect and give protagonism to an impressive pine, that is located on the top of the site, and that makes access and approximation to the house extremely complex from the street; how to avoid deciding between the views to the sea and those to the mountains, and allow both visions in opposite directions; how to neutralize through form the presence of the contiguous constructions, to build up a fake isolation that denies the neighbours; how to double the main views, permitting quality frontal views from the front and the rear of the house; how to resolve so many a priories with a simple movement that answers to all of the previous aims without prioritizing nor explicitly formulating a response to any of them. The form, a unique form, is the result of a long process of search of individual answers to each of those challenges; thus, the form is not an a priori, but an effort to give a unitary response that satisfies each of the questions rose up in the design process.

The X House is also a constructive exploration: a technique regularly used for the infrastructural construction such as bridges and tunnels, is here developed to meet the architectural scale, aiming to incorporate efficiency, and reduction of costs to the construction. The use of a mixed technique based on the application of a high-density concrete allows projecting the material at a high pressure to a single-sided formwork, and to acquire high structural resistance in extremely short periods of time. Thus, it is possible to project continuous 6m high walls without the need to use a two-sided formwork (which would be the regular construction procedure). The house is therefore a living expression of the specific technique, and accumulates in its skin the diverse and continuous knowledge acquired within the process of construction.

Qiu Hao est né en 1978, près de Shanghaï. Il commence par étudier l’architecture d’intérieur avant de lancer sa première ligne prêt-à-porter, intitulée « Neither nor ». C’est seulement trois ans plus tard qu’il part étudier le design de mode à la Saint Martins School de Londres. Diplômé en 2006, il retourne à Shanghaï pour y fonder sa marque « QIUHAO ». Son travail se caractérise par des silhouettes monochromes aux volumes structurés (capuches oversize par exemple).

Qiu Hao was born in 1978 in the city of Taicang, one hour west of Shanghai. In 2001, after his college study of interior and space design, Qiu Hao launched his first ready-to-wear line « Neither Nor »; it currently sells in nine department stores around China. In 2004, Qiu went to study for an MA in Fashion Womenswear at Central Saint Martins in London. After graduating in 2006, he returned to Shanghai to officially establish his own eponymous label « QIUHAO ».

The Beams chair is a lightweight wooden armchair inspired by the H-beam structure of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The H-Beam structure is derived and used as a main design element in the Beams chair, which shows the beauty of such construction. The main frame of the chair is composed of two kinds of thin wood panel:multiplex and plywood. The two wood panels are combined together in such a way so as to offer directional perpendicular wooden structures and to create the H-Beam structure in the chair. By such inventive arrangement of the wood panel, the specific H-beam structure is built up and an extraordinary stability of the chair is ensured.

The Chair is made of three different kinds of wood, bent plywood, multiplex and aircraft plywood.The strength of the structure of the plywood and multiplex thin sheets is quite strong in one direction, while relatively weak in other direction.
By combining the two wood sheets in a way so to offer directional perpendicular wooden structures and to build the H-Beam structure, there are two strong dimensions so the anti-twisting ability and compression strength as well as the stability of the chair are tremendously improved.

The frame of the chair is constructed by bending plywood and multiplex. The flexible aircraft plywood covers the frame as the surfaces of the seat and back. Such design saves the molding cost of production and reduces the weight of the Chair.
