Making Rubber Stamps from Embossing Folders!

I belong to a card making group that usually meets at my home once a month. This month was my turn to host a demo. So I thought I would teach my friends (and you) how versatile Amazing Mold Putty is.

I demonstrated how to use embossing folders to make rubber stamps! It's fun to do after you have embossed your card or tag, then further accent it with a matching stamped image!

To get started you'll need to mix equal portions of the "A" and "B" Amazing Mold Putty until you no longer see any white swirls and you have one uniform color yellow.

Make a pancake of your putty, about 1/4" thick.

Then select your chosen embossing folder, open it up and gently press your pancake onto the non-raised design side. You want your putty to go into the design. Flip the folder over and look for air pockets under the putty, if you see any, you'll need to gently press the putty in place. Use a craft roller to smooth out any finger prints and make for a smooth finish for later.

Let your putty set for about 15 minutes then remove easily from your folder. Neat huh?

Here are some examples that the girls and I created. We just used basic distress inks. For a more precise image, chalk inks would work even better.

Also, for a more user friendly stamp, I would recommend to mount the Mold Putty stamps onto cling mounting foam. That way you can use them easily with a acrylic block.

The rubber of The Amazing Mold Putty makes for easy clean up.

Just wipe with a damp cloth and you are done!

This can also be done with embossing plates and brass stencils.

#1 Hot Rod Dad!

This week I thought it would be fun to make a "Hot Rod" style card!
I stamped a truck image (from Stampin Up) onto white cardstock and colored it in with Spectrum Noir pens. With a black pen, I added some flames. I trimmed out the truck and placed it on the card with the following from The Robins Nest:

Classified cardstock
Romantic Red Glittered chipboard
Flame Border Stickers (currently 20% off)
Glitter Letter Stickers

For the cards corners, I ran soda can sheets through my embossing folders and die machine.
Then I cut them into the corner shapes.

A Simply Sweet Sewing Book!

Here is a little sewing book I whipped up for my step Mom whom is a quilter. I had won the plain canvas book below in a raffle during a weekend crop recently. The blank canvas book is by Maya Road and comes with 3 canvas pages and 3 chipboard pages.

I used a assortment of Crafters Workshop stencils through out the book on the canvas material,
and a Heidi Swapp color shine spritzer, which I love even more than the other leading brands out there. The colors are so vibrant and shimmery. :)

I have a assortment of vintage inspired stamps that I used. Most of them are by Crafty Secrets.

This tiny scissor was waiting at my crop table Sunday morning, a gift to us crafters from Westcott.
So in the book it went! I kept the colors red, turquoise and blue. Such happy vintage colors, don't you agree?

I purged through my paper and fabric stash for just the right patterns to go into the book.

On one of the canvas pages I layered some felt and made a spot for my step Mom to put her quilting needles.

Keeping up with the color theme, I made a little pouch with some clear packaging and Velcro tape and added some embroidery thread for a sewing emergency.

Fun buttons were glued in place through -out the book.
The book was getting kind of "chunky" so I fashioned a clasp from a glass bead, wire, a button and a crop-a-dile punch. I used the punch on the front of the book and knotted some dyed vintage binding.

I glued ample amounts of pom pom trim to the side of the book to give it some "bounce".

Flaming "HOT" Tie Card for Fathers Day!

Even though this is a simple card, it really says a lot, especially when you use the Mango Flame embossed cardstock from The Robins Nest! First I decided what size I wanted to make my card before making up a tie and tie knot template. (Feel free to copy this template!)
You'll want to make sure the other ties are a pretty mellow color so not to take away from the main tie. After gluing them all in place, I used a doodle pen to draw the inside lines.

I could have stamped this, but sometimes its more fun to hand write the greeting, don't you agree?

Leslie Rahye's - Steampunk Inspired Transportation Blog Hop

This months theme is transportation. So I made this card and tutorial for your SteamPunk enjoyment!
Enjoy!

To get started, you will need white card stock and desired colored cardstock, each cut to:

6 1/2" x 5", 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" and 2" x 2 1/2".

Then using your paper trimmer, cut off a sliver off all sides of the white cardstock.

Using a tiny dab of glue, layer the white cardstock as shown below, this will hold the cardstock in place so you can create. :)

Lightly ink your layered cardstock with yellow, orange and brown inks.
I placed a gears template from Crafters Workshop and secured it in place with tape.
Then I went over the gears with shades of darker brown inks.

With the template still in place, I used a syringe bulb to blow some color from a Red Shimmer Krylon pen onto the card.

Then I flicked some champagne mist shimmer paint onto everything with a stiff dry brush.

I let it all set for about 10 minutes before carefully removing the tape and template.

For fun, I added some shimmer paint to the edges of the solid cardstock as well.

Next is the process of layering the card!
Pull apart the 3 layers of decorated white cardstock.
Layer them as shown, making sure the design aligns before gluing in place.
Large color on the bottom - large decorated cardstock on top.
Medium color next,

Medium decorated cardstock on top of that.
Then last small color piece,

And finish with last small decorated cardstock on top!

The clouds were made with a Fiskars punch, a dollar bin hot air balloon stamp, Art Tickets by Invoke Arts, and a Clock face stamp by Stamp in the hand Co.
A little bit of scrap paper,a doodling pen, more glitter and washi tape completed my vision!

Hi there! This months theme for The Designer Crafts Connection is "Wishes".
At first I was completely 'stumped' as what to create for you. I figured everyone would go with Birthday Wishes or Faerie Wishes...and I wanted to try something different.
I hope you like this!

Materials used:
Glossy photo paper
Zig glue pen.
Assorted distress inks and daubers.
Water mister, 1 dry paint brush with stiff bristles and 1 soft bristle paint brush.
Paper towels, a craft mat, tape and baby wipes.
Stencils (Mariposas and Butterfly Meadow) from The Crafters Workshop
Super fine glitter, gold leaf pen and a stamped sentiment.

Step 1.- Place your photo card shiny side up and begin by applying the distress ink colors with a dauber or make up sponge.
Step 2. - Add other colors, try not to make it 'muddy' but still cover up as much white as possible.

Step 3. - Lightly spray your inked card with water.
Step 4. - With the stiff bristles of the paint brush, 'jab' the colors. Does that make sense? You don't want to use strokes, but more as a crunch down method with the stiff dry bristles. If your card starts to dry up before you have had a chance to finish, mist with some more water or the blending process won't work.

Step 5. When you are pleased with the color blending, turn your card over onto the paper towels and gently pat to rid of the excess moisture.
* The ink will be very sticky to touch, almost too sticky, so set the card aside to air for about 10 minutes.*
Step 6. When the card is not as sticky as it was before, place your stencil onto the card and secure to the paper towels with tape.

Step 7. Using your daubers and multiple distress inks, dab (not rub) into the cutouts of the stencil until you have achieved the desired color combination.
Step 8. With the stencil still taped firmly in place, wipe the plastic gently with a baby wipe to remove excess ink.

Step 9. - Fill in the stencil design with the glue pen. Don't worry if you get any on your stencil. It's comes off easily with a wipe later.
Step 10. - Use the other soft dry paintbrush to apply the fine glitter to the designs, making sure to get the glitter into the smallest of crevices.
Take a minute or two to clean your brushes, then carefully remove the tape and remove the stencil.

From here you can add more inked designs, tint the edges with a gold leaf pen, and a stamped sentiment. I was even able to add some gold leaf spatters onto the card using a rubber suction bulb like syringe. The blast of air onto the pen gave the card just enough of a 'air brushed' look.
When finished, leave the card alone for 30 minutes to one hour to fully cure and have no more stickiness.

Spring Blooms while the Bird Sings.

Sometimes the best inspiration for card making can be found while walking around outside!
I love how the neighborhood trees are already showing the most delicate pink flowers and the birds are happily singing!

I created this card using the following Robins Nest supplies:
Pink Sorbet Glitter
Aquamarine Sorbet Glitter
Mini Gold Dew Drops
Coppery tissue paper
A decorative bird paper napkin, a gold leafing pen, precision scissors,
a mini flower punch and tombo glue.

Cut strips of tissue paper and then start to roll it up length wise.
It helps if you can moisten the paper as you roll.

Twist the ends and crumple some for a realistic branch-like appearance.

Once you have made the branches you need to fit your card, use some extra tissue to wrap the cluster of branches. (As shown above)

Glue your wrapped branches to your card. Add more rolled tissue bits for little branches.
Carefully trim your bird from the paper napkin and glue onto the card.

Punch your flowers from the pink and aquamarine paper.
Trim some of the aquamarine flowers to become little leaves.

Layer the flowers as shown. Form the top flower by bending the petals upwards.
Add some of the Mini Gold Dew Drops to the center of each flower and to the corners of the card after gilding the cards edges with the gold leaf pen.

Look who I found! The rustic bird feeder is a perfect spot for a her eggs as I know doves usually build the worst nest of any bird. I'm also especially happy we have a great inside view from our dining table. I can't wait to see some chicks! :)

Now for my craft!

1. To make the card above I drew my daisy design onto scratch paper and them made copies of it on a printer.
2. Next I added some double stick tape to a piece of card stock and added my daisy print.

I did this because the printer paper was too thin for step 4. Now if you have a choice daisy or flower stamp, you can just stamp it directly to the white card stock.
3. From here I added some more double stick tape. The wider the tape, the better.
Peel off the tape backing before step 4.

4. & 5. Place your piece on a paper plate and pour a little bit of super fine clear glitter on top. Rub it around with your finger, making sure to cover all of the image. Pour excess glitter back into the container.

6. Using your favorite alcohol based markers, (I use spectrum Noir) color the center of the flower completely with a bright yellow and then in the center with shades of darker yellow/orange.

7. When you have finished coloring in your flower, take a fine tip permanent black pen and touch up the outline of the image. Be careful not to push to hard or you'll pull up the glitter from the sticky tape.

When you have finished, carefully cut out your design with non-stick precision scissors, then glue to your card front and embellish as desired.

Spring Flowers- Hair Clips!

The past couple of weeks have been filled with "Spring" cleaning to prepare for a community garage sale this weekend. That is why you have not seen much activity on this blog and I am so sorry!
To make it up to you, I'm showing you a project I posted April of 2012.
I hope it will get you in the mood for Spring!

Spring Flower Hair Clips!
You will need the following:

Large silk flowers, ( I found these at my local craft store on sale for 40% off).
Assorted colors of sewing thread, thimble and a strong needle..
Buttons.
Small felt flowers, I used this Sizzix flower die.
Alligator hair clips and a few ponytail holders.
Extra circles of felt and tulle.
Crayons (trust me on this).
Assorted colors of stickles or your favorite glitter glue with a fine tip.
Beacon Fabric-Tac

Begin by removing your flower from it's wire stem. Then remove the center (yellow part), the bottom (green part) and the middle plastic, (pink part).

Hold your flower together and stitch your felt flower onto the center.

Then add your button. Use a thimble to push your needle through the petals if the layers are too thick.

Using your Fabric glue, adhere a circle of felt to the bottom of the flower. Then place another circle of felt inside the hair clip as shown.Add glue to the felt and place the hair clip.

Open the clip and firmly press down the felt to fuse with the glue. Hold for about 10 seconds.
Then use a crayon to prop open the hair clip so it does not accidentally glue shut while the felt is setting.

Complete your flowers with as much or as little of glitter glue as desired.

Then let dry completely before wearing

How to make flowers from soda cans, alcohol pens and nail polish!

Hi Everyone!
I hope you having a wonderful start of Spring!
I'm excited that my garden has begun to bloom.Yea!
This months project for The Designer Crafts Challenge group was to show off some handmade flowers with items from around the home. So I gathered up a few supplies and had a little fun!

For this project, you will need:
Favorite flower dies that will cut through tin
Embossing folders

Alcohol pens
Assorted nail polishes
Floral wire, buttons and jewelry pliers.

Begin by cutting up your empty soda cans and clean them with a wet cloth.
The can will automatically curl up, so gently, curl the opposite way being careful of sharp edges.

Cut the tin into sections that will fit the flower shapes you want cut out. Run them through your die cutting machine. Then place them into the embossing folders and run them through again.

Working on a paper towel and on a craft sheet, use the fine and wide tips of your alcohol pens to color in the flowers. Try using multiple colors for a splotchy effect.

Select your nail polishes. As you can see, I have quite a few!
I love to "paint" my nails as much as I love to make art!

Now add more fun detail to your flowers with the nail polishes. Play with the colors and some of the solids and glitters. Make sure to work with a window or two open as some nail polishes stink more than others, and it's usually the one you like painting with the best!
Once dry, the nail polish will act as a sealer.

Leave your pieces to dry while you clear your work space for the next step.

You will now need the floral wire, pliers and assorted buttons.
Play with your flowers to see which two will pair well. Then find a button that mostly matches the bottom flower. The other two buttons don't matter. You just want to make sure the buttons are larger than the flowers hole.

Fold a bit of the wire as shown. Then thread the first button onto the bent wire to rest at the end. Add the small flower, a button, the large flower and the final button.

Wrap the small bit of wire around (as shown) at the back of the large flower.
Be sure to leave room for the flowers to spin.

Fold the remaining wire, (as shown) so you can secure the end piece at the back of the flowers.

Now you have made a beautiful flower!

Place these inside to brighten up lonely indoor plants, or outside with natures best and watch your colorful creations spin in the warm breeze!

The combination of the alcohol pens and nail polishes really pick up the outdoor light. Maybe give a couple to a friend to brighten up a office.

These flowers are sure to "perk" up any plant and bring a smile to someone special!

Resin Sun Catchers!

Here is a pretty craft you can make to personalize a gift or fill your windows with color!
To make Resin Sun Catchers like these, you will need the following:
Amazing Mold Putty
Amazing Clear Cast Resin
Decorative tissue paper napkins
Precision scissors
A pencil
Clean and dry prism crystal (real or plastic)
Wax paper, mixing cup for resin, mixing stick, tooth pick, foam brush, wire, clear thread and a paper piercer.

First begin by mixing your putty according to package directions, equal amounts of white and yellow until one solid color of yellow. Press your prism face down into the putty and let set 15 minutes. Pop prism out. Make a few more of the same. Mix equal amounts of the clear cast resin into the measuring cups provided. Stir well, scraping the sides and bottom as you work. Pour carefully into your molds. Don't worry if you cover up the part where the prism hole is. We will fix that later.

Select your tissue paper napkin of choice. I collect mine from discount shops and store them in a decorative box. Separate the top tissue layer from the plain tissues. Place your prism onto your desired pattern and trace with a pencil. Then cut out the traced design inside the pencil lines.
Place design face down into the resin filled mold. No need to press down, it will absorb right away. Fill in any gaps with little bits of decorative tissue. Use the toothpick to put things in their place.

When you have covered all your areas with tissue, make up a small batch of the clear cast resin.
pour this on top of each prism, covering the tissue just so. use your toothpick to corral any stray pieces. Leave to set in a dry, low traffic spot in your house.

These will take about 24 hours to fully cure, but half way through, you should be able to work them out of the mold. Use the paper piercer as shown to open up the holes. If I were to place the piece on my work surface, the not fully cured resin would stick. Once I get the piercer through the hole, I can pick it up and wiggle the piercer to enlarge the hole. Do this to each one. Then place back into the mold as found to continue curing.

Now when you removed your pieces from the mold, you may have noticed that they were cloudy. This is normal.
In the past, depending on the project type, I have used a clear spray sealer or diamond glaze to add some shine to my resin pieces. This often results in a even more dull shine or exaggerates any cuts and scratches on my piece. Sometime that is fine. In this case I wanted a clear, clean glass-like finish. So I did some research on the web and found Wanda Eash. She answered all my questions and then by browsing her tips on resin, I became even more inspired!
Here is what I learned from her in adding a high gloss finish.

Place your pieces flat side down onto some duck tape. Really smooth the tape onto the piece so there is no air pockets. you don't want the next step to leak under....

Make up a very small batch of clear cast resin and proceed to paint your pieces with the foam brush and resin. You only need one coat for the top and sides.

Here you can see instant results!

Let your pieces set until the top coat is no longer sticky to touch.

Now slowly peel off the tape. Trim off any rough edges with your scissors.
Work at the hole again with your paper piercer if needed.

Add some wire through the holes to make a loop,add the thread, hang and enjoy!

Airbrushing with Spectrum Noir pens

Last night I sat down and decided I needed to start making "Thank You" cards from My Birthday in February. I really wanted to play with this adorable new Elephant stamp from Stampin Up called "Henry says". I could not find my stash of paper scraps so I decided to color him by way of Air Brushing.

I used the wide end of my Spectrum Noir pens and a air spritzer from Stampin Up. The Spritzer is designed to hold generic brush tip pens, like the kind I use to color my stamps before stamping...but the square Noir pens don't fit in the round hole on the spritzer. No biggie.

I just hold the pen above where I want color and give the ink tip a blast of air from the Spritzer.
The wetter the pen, the easier the spritz. I also takes break in between spritzing so not to trigger my carpal tunnel in my wrist.

Now on to my craft...I'm a owl lover and these buttons had "owl" written all over them!

I hand stitched these happy birds, layering some buttons and placing the buttons...oh...wherever.
I love the random whimsy of the buttons colors, some vintage, some current. :)

All perfect, making my owl softies so hug-able!
Materials used:
Gingham Ribbon, Big Ole' buttons, Granny stitched buttons, Black and White mix, and Yellow mix.
