Batwing Hairclips

Who's ready for Halloween?

I am!

With these spooky cute batwing hairclips,

you're sure to be the ghoul of the ball!

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,
I am provided with product to work with each month.

All you need is:

2.½" Gwen Studio's Solid Black Grosgrain Ribbon
3/8" Gwen Studio's Solid Black Grosgrain Ribbon
7/8" Gwen Studio's Solid Black Grosgrain Ribbon
Scissors
Lighter
Hot glue
Hairclips

Cut 5" of the wide ribbon. Fold in half and hold in place with your hair clips or sewing needles.
Cut one end as shown and repeat on the other end.

Open your ribbon and singe the cut edges with your lighter to deter the ribbon from fraying.

Place a place dab of hot glue in the center and pinch.

This will help hold the center in place while you pinch the center inwards.

Cut 2" of the 3/8 ribbon.
Use the hot glue to wrap around the center of the bat wings. Cut off any excess ribbon.

Place a 1 ½" piece of the 7/8 ribbon inside the hairclip.

Use the hot glue to secure the ribbon to 'only' the top of the hairclip.

Secure the batwing to the hair clip with hot glue or substitute a elastic instead.

I'm getting some Wednesday Addams vibes with these...what do you think?

Green Button Rings

I don't know about you but when its hot and humid, I can't wear my normal rings, but I also can't go without....so what's a girl to do but make some button rings!

All you need are just:

This is honestly the easiest craft to do with friends, family and even kids.
I like the green buttons from Gwen Studios because its such a nice mix of traditional buttons as well as some really cool vintage ones. Plus green is such a cool calming color.

Simply pick out the buttons that you like. Play around stacking or nesting them. 1, 2 or even 3! Thread the buttons with your elastic cord and then slip onto your finger and loosely knot the cord until you decide on the sizing. Then double knot, tighten, snip and show off your beautiful rings!

Button Apple Card

Schools back in session so why not let your Childs teacher know early on just how much you appreciate them with this easy to make button apple card?

You will need the following:

Gwen Studios Solid or Polka dot Grosgrain Ribbon
Gwen Studios Buttons
White heavy duty cardstock or thin poster board -cut to 5" x 7".
Scissors
Clear drying tacky glue
Pen or pencil for drawing apple outline.
(optional) Accent pen or washi tape for the border.

Begin by drawing a basic apple shape with a stem and leaf.

Glue down the ribbon stem first, them fill the leaf and apple shape in with glue and buttons.

Feel free to over lap some of the buttons.

Use as a greeting card or frame to display.

Easter Egg Ribbon Card

With Easter just around the corner, you can easily create just the right greeting or table setting cards with this easy tutorial!

You will need the following:

Gwen Studios Solid or Polka dot Grosgrain Ribbon
Cardstock in white and various colors.
Scissors
Double stick tape
Template or die cutting machine.
(optional) Border punch and accent pens.

Cut your shape by hand or use a die cut machine.
You can do a egg shape like I did here or a flower, letter or any other shape you want.

Place pieces of the double stick tape closely around the shape. Then start laying some ribbon cuts across the open shape, securing the ends onto the double stick tape.
When you are finished, trim the card and layer with other colored cardstock before adhering to the front of your main card base.

Decorate with pens or other accents if desired.

Hanging Kitchen Towel

With a little bit of sewing, a few patches and some cheery buttons,

you can make a pot holder with hanging kitchen towel.

This is one of those projects that is so clever yet probably the most useful item in your kitchen!

You will need the following:

Gwen Studios Embroidered Lemon Lime Iron-on Patch Applique, Yellow and Green
Gwen Studios Solid or Polka dot Grosgrain Ribbon
Gwen Studios Buttons
A decorative kitchen towel with a pot holder to match.

Lay your kitchen towel, still folded, flat and place the pot holder on top, aligning both centers.
Sew the pot holder to the towel along the dotted line.

Iron on your patches using directions on the package.
Cut off the pot holder loop and add your own with some polka dot ribbon.
Mark where you want the button to go and hand stitch in place.
Add more ribbon if desired.

(I placed a smaller button in-between the front button and the pot holder so the ribbon loop would catch better.)

My dish towel had cherries so naturally I had to accent them with some red buttons!

Springtime Fox in Flowers

Nothings is nicer than a sweet fox in a field of flowers.

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,
I am provided with product to work with each month.

To make a wreath like this, you will need the following:

A small table top wreath
10 lb. Galvanized wire
Tape or hot glue
Scissors and a paintbrush handle
Tiny hole punch or paper piercer

Begin by wrapping some wire around the paintbrush handle. Slide off and tape or glue one end to the back of the bumble bee patch and wind the other end into the wreath, tucking the sharp end of the wire at the back of the wreath. Repeat process for as many bumble bees you want to add.

Next, bend a length of wire in half and starting with a tiny button, thread the wire through increasing the sizes of the buttons until you have at least 3.

Fold 1 piece of ribbon, (about 3") and poke a hole through the center with the hole punch or paper piercer. Thread the 2 ends of the wire through the hole then finish with a tiny button of choice and twist the wire shut.

Tape or glue a bit of wire to the back of the fox and insert in the wreath, securing the wire at the back.
Weave your flowers around the fox.

So cute! Don't you agree?
And these buttons are just gorgeous!

No Sew Button Be-Dazzled Valentine

This no sew, button be-dazzled Valentine is a breeze to make and adds just the right amount of nostalgic whimsy to your Valentine décor!

I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Gwen Studios Plastic Sewing Buttons Value Pack, 7 oz., Assorted Sizes, Red
Red Polka Dot Ribbon from the Grosgrain Ribbon Pack, 24 Bright Colors, 3/8" x 48 Yards by Gwen Studios
Red and white felt
Red and silver sequins
Marking pen, Scissors and a Hot glue gun

Begin by cutting 2 same size hearts from the red felt and 1 smaller heart from the white felt.
Cut up any leftover felt scraps (free stuffing!) into smaller pieces and glue in the center of the first red heart.

Add a line of glue along the edge as shown and add your loop of ribbon, then place the 2nd red heart on top, pressing the edges firmly into the hot glue.

Draw a heart to use as a guide.
Add a line of glue along the drawn heart shape and carefully place your sequins.

Next, fill in the heart shape with the assorted red buttons.

When you have finished, flip the heart over and glue down the small white heart but leave the top open to add a sweet treat or love note. Finish the edges with more sequins or buttons.

Day of the Dead Crafts/ Dia De Los Muertos

The Day of the Dead — El Día de Muertos in Spanish — is celebrated on Nov. 1 and Nov 2. The Mexican holiday celebrates loved ones who have passed on by welcoming back the souls of deceased friends and relatives with their favorite drinks, food, music and more.

Easy Fall Inspired Decor

Are you looking for a easy way to make some Fall Inspired Decor?

Follow my tutorial to "ring" in the season!

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,
I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

1 ½" Gwen Studios Orange Grosgrain Ribbon (Walmart)

Acorn Bell Garland (Michaels)
Garland Ties (Michaels)
Double stick tape
Scissors
Twist ties or pipe cleaners

For this craft, you'll need 2- 10" of ribbon. Plus a little bit for the center.

Place a piece of the double stick tape at the center of the ribbon and press down one end as shown below. .

Now bring in the other end. Repeat with the other ribbon.

Next stack the 2 ribbons with the taped areas in the middle. Crimp the two together as shown.

Secure the center with your twist tie, then wrap with the double stick tape and finish with the center ribbon.

Cut some of the acorn bells from the garland. Attach to the garland tie.

Secure the bells in place with the ends of the twist tie.

Now simply hang this on your door knob, attach to some garland,
maybe a wreath or use to tie back your curtains!

Spooky Ribbon Spiders

Halloween is just around the corner,

so I thought it would be fun to add some spooky spiders to my indoor plants!

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,
I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Gwen Studios Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon

Pom-poms
Googly eyes
Bamboo skewers (painted to match the ribbon/pom-pom)
Hot glue
Thin wire
Awl or hole punch (I used a crop-a-dile)
Scissors
Black marker

1. Begin by using the ribbon to measure the width of the pom-pom, then multiple that by 4. That will conclude the length of each ribbon and you will need 4 ribbons per spider.

2. Punch a hole in the center of each ribbon.

3. Now there are two ways to add the wire to the back of each ribbon. You can stitch a zig zag onto the wire down the length of the ribbon with your sewing machine or use the hot glue as I did here.

4. Place a line of hot glue around the end of each skewer about 1/2" " down.

5. Then poke the stick through the punched holes of each ribbon.
The line of glue keeps the ribbons in place.

6. Use the scissors to cut into the pom-pom, making a little hole. You will need to pull some of the fluff out using your fingers or some pliers. Mark the hole with the black marker.

7. Add a glob of hot glue into the hole and push the top of the stick into the hole, holding it steady on your table for a minute or two until the glue hardens.

8. Use the hot glue to add the eyes and then use your fingers to carefully crimp ribbon legs.

Super cute and super spooky!
Maybe later...I'll make them some little witch hats!

No Sew Beaded Lanyard

School is right around the corner, so how about sprucing up your tired lanyards
so you are ready for the new year?

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,
I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Lanyard attachment or keyring
Scissors
Small pliers
Clear tape
Lighter or candle flame

Place a length of ribbon around your neck to determine about how long you want it to be, then add 5".
*(remember to take note as to what will be clipped onto the end and where you want those items to hang)...
Fold ribbon in half around your key ring lanyard attachment.
Tape the ends of the ribbon tightly with tape so it can thread through a bead.
*(I taped the ends together for my lanyard, but you can also tape the ends separately to mix up the bead placement.)
Push the taped end through however many beads as you want.
Use the pliers to easily pull the taped ends through the beads.
When you think you have enough beads, add one more but don't pull it all the way.
Clip your 'work' items to your key ring or lanyard attachment and place the lanyard over your head so you can determine where you want everything to hang.
Mark the final measurement at the back of your neck with the last bead.
Make a tight knot after the bead, trim and seal the edges with a open flame.

UV beads stay clear indoors and change colors in the sunlight. Super fun!
You can also use other colored pony beads and ribbons to match your class room theme or your style. :)

Firecracker Bookmark

Save your spot in your summer reading with these easy to make firecracker bookmarks!

I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Felt or canvas
Bookmark template
Permanent marker
Sewing machine
Scissors

Begin by using a old bookmark for a pattern or create your own.
Trace your pattern onto some felt or canvas.
Cut out each bookmark leaving a ¼" to ½" space around the traced line.

Flip the bookmark over and begin sewing your ribbons in place.
I liked alternating between a straight stitch to a zig zag.

When you are done, cut any loose threads and trim along the traced line with standard or pinking scissors. Then re-stitch along the line.

Fold in half the sliver ribbon from the Patriotic Cupcake pack and stitch in place as shown, finishing the bookmark with a straight stitch all the way around.

Mothers Day Ribbon Flower

Mothers Day is just around the corner and if you are looking for something simple to make, why not these cheerful ribbon flowers?

I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Gwen Studios 5/8" Double Faced Yellow Satin Ribbon
Silver felt
Pin backings
Decorative buttons
Thread and needle

Trim the satin ribbon to approximately (12) 3" pieces. More if you want a bigger flower.

Next, cut (1) 1" circle and (2) 1½" circles. from the felt. I used pinking shears to finish the edges.

Fold each ribbon in half and begin stitching in place all around one of the larger circles.

Stich another circle in place on top of the ribbon.

Stitch your button onto one of the smaller felt circles and attach with needle and thread to the center if the ribbon flower.

Finish by adding the pin to the back of the ribbon flower.

Ribbon Stitched Valentine Pocket

This Valentine pocket is so easy to make and customize using your favorite Gwen Studios ribbons!

To make your own ribbon stitched Valentine pocket, you will need the following:

Sweet Shop Ribbon

24 ct. Grosgrain Ribbon

Felt hearts from dollar tree.

Begin by cutting out a heart from one of the felt hearts.
Use your sewing machine to stitch strips of ribbon onto the heart.

Place stitched heart under the cutout and stitch in place. Cut away any excess ribbon.

Put the 2 felt hearts together, aligning the holes.

add a piece of tape on the end of your threading ribbon to make it easier when pushing and pulling through the holes.

Keep threading all around and then fill with a sweet treat or love note!

Spooky Halloween Bows

Add a little bit of fun to your hair this Halloween with Gwen Studios ribbons!

This craft can also be used to decorate gifts or jazz up party decor!

Supplies used:

GWENS STUDIOS 3/8" Orange Grosgrain Ribbon
GWEN STUDIOS 3/8" Black Grosgrain Ribbon
Halloween or fall decorations
Hair clips, bands or scrunchie
Hot glue

1. Cut 3 pieces of your choice of ribbon 10" long and lay on a flat surface as shown.

2. Start with 2 dabs of hot glue in the center and secure opposite ends of ribbon into the glue.
Continue process until all the ends have been adhered into the center.

If you are using a spider for the center of your bow, be sure to have something like the metal handle of a spoon ready. Once you fill the underside of the spider with 'hot' glue, you'll need the handle to press the center of the bow into the glue for about 20 seconds until the glue hardens.

Then you can attach the bow to a hair clip, band, scrunchie, gift bag or anything else!

La Catrina Ribbon and Floral Headband

My floral headband colors were inspired by the beautiful holiday known as Day of the Dead. This holiday is celebrated every year on November 1st and 2nd. Its a time to honor loved ones who have passed on to the spirit world by having a huge celebration filled with family, festivities, and brightly colored flowers.

I am provided with product to work with each month.

I love wearing headbands but not the hard plastic ones.
Here I have created a simple tutorial that I hope you enjoy making as much as I did!

Supplies used:

GWEN STUDIOS Favor Pack - Rainbow assortment of 3/8' grosgrain ribbon
(mix or match the ribbon colors with your selected flowers!)
GWEN STUDIOS Black grosgrain ribbon
4" x 12" of felt. Plus some scraps.
Assorted colors of silk flowers
Snap hair clips
Hot Glue
a lighter or candle
Wire cutters
Monarch butterfly's (optional)

Cut 2 times 15" - 20" of each of the ribbon colors.
To keep the ends from fraying, singe the ends with the flame from a lighter or candle.

Use the hot glue to secure one end of each ribbon to the center sides of the felt. Make sure the length of the ribbons are the same length or you'll have to re cut and re-singe the ends.

Continue gluing all the colors in place.
Then draw a line of glue along the top of the felt and fold down on top of the ribbons. Repeat with the bottom half. You should have a 1-1 ½" wide band.

Insert a scrap piece of felt into the snap clip as shown and drizzle some hot glue.

Press the clip down at one end of the headband. Make sure the blunt or closed end of the clip is at the front of your headband. If you mess up, pull the clip up quickly before the glue has had a chance to harden. Repeat on the other end of the headband.

Secure with hot glue, the plastic base of each flower. Then use the wire cutters to cut off the stem.

Starting with your larger flowers, cover the bottom of each flower base with hot glue and press into the headband, holding for 10 or so seconds to make sure they are secure. Alternate floral colors and sizes. When you think you are done, try it on in front of a mirror.

You'll then be able to see any gaps to fill in with extra flowers. If you are worried about the weight of the headband.... just add more hair clips!
Finish your headband by adding a few butterfly's.

Fun fact.... Monarchs are believed to be the souls of the beloved deceased family members who have returned home from the spiritual world, in time to participate in the earthly celebration.

Back 2 School Ribbon Headbands

Jump into the new School year with your own super cute trendy headbands!

* As a design team member for Gwen Studios,

I am provided with product to work with each month.

Supplies used:

Gwen Studios Sweet Shop Ribbons -cut to 13"-14"
Gwen Studios 7/8" Yellow Grosgrain Ribbon - cut to 13"-14"
(length of cut ribbons should fit just behind the ears. Adjust length as needed.)
Colorful elastic ( I used satin elastic) - cut to 8"
Sewing machine, thread and scissors.

Layer your ribbons as desired and stich in place.

Stitch the elastic to the ends as shown.

Fold over the remaining ribbon and stitch, securing the the elastic in place.

Super cute and easy, right?

Star-shaped wreath form and wire tinsel

Simply begin by wrapping your wreath with the wire tinsel.
Then cut 6" lengths of ribbons and double knot tie to the wreath.
Super simple, super fun!

Gathered Ribbons for Gift Giving

Instead of using traditional gift wrap, tape and curling ribbon, have you ever tried wrapping the gift in in a pretty scarf or cloth napkin? Its like a gift with-in a gift!
Better yet if you add the gathered ribbon tutorial below!

Supplies used:

Gwen Studios solid and Polka Dot Grosgrain
Gwen Studios 1.5" Grosgrain Ribbon
Gwen Studios 7/8" Grosgrain Ribbon
2 twist ties
Needle and thread

1. Begin by inserting one end of the twist tie between some ribbon and stitch through and around the twist tie until it is secure.

Layer your ribbon choices and begin stitching a simple stitch.
Small stitches on the front, large stitches on the back.

When you are done with the stitches, gently pull the thread, gathering the ribbon as you pull.

It's your call if you want tight or semi loose gathers.

You will want the length of at least 20" of ribbon to wrap a simple gift. if you find you need more gathers to tie your gift, then add some more stitches.

When you are done, end the stiches with a good knot and then cut the ribbon, leaving a half inch length to attach the other twist tie.

That's it. A super cute and clever gift wrapping idea!

Marie Antoinette Ribbon Doll

When I saw the new Sweet Shop Ribbon packs from Gwen Studios, I knew I just had to make up some ribbon dolls!

As you can probably tell, I had loads of fun putting these dolls together.
The assorted ribbons are just so colorful and pretty!

Marie Antoinette Paper Dolls by Tom Tierney
Access to a color copier

Watercolor paper
Butterfly die cuts
Stapler and sharp scissors

Tacky adhesive and glitter paint.

Make 1 copy of the paper doll body and 2 of the outfit of choice.

Glue the body to some watercolor paper. Adhere the first outfit and cut out as shown below.

Cut out just the top portion of the second copy of the outfit.

Cut assorted lengths of the ribbons and trim. Notch the end with scissors to keep them from fraying. Staple two of the wider ribbons to the doll base.

Add more ribbon, stapling as you layer. cover any exposed staples with some extra ribbon at the waist.

Adhere the top outfit, carefully aligning with the face and head.

Cut out some of the 'sweets from the ribbons for extra embellishments. Cut a butterfly in half and adhere to the dolls back for 'Faerie' wings. Add a touch of glitter as a finishing touch.

These were so much fun to make, I could have made them all day!

Brighten up a old vase with all your favorite colors!

To make this vase, you will need the following:

A selection of your favorite Robins Nest Dew Drop colors.
I used a combination of original, mini, diamond and tear -drops.
A small clear glass vase.
A small tube of E600.
