<title>Show #22: Weather and Climate</title>
<itunes:subtitle>To discuss severe weather safety, as well as other weather topics, we have Dr. Gary Lackmann, associate meteorology professor here at North Carolina State University.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>The tornado that ripped through downtown Atlanta on March 14th was a sign that severe weather season is here throughout the Southeast U.S. To discuss this, as well as other weather topics, we have Dr. Gary Lackmann, associate meteorology professor here at North Carolina State University.
Dr. Lackmann has taught undergraduate and graduate meteorology courses here at State since 1999, after stops in New York, Canada, and Washington State. A prolific researcher, some of his current investigations deal with using computer models to improve the forecasting of severe storms, hurricanes, winter weather, and climate change.
Tonight, we will discuss severe weather safety, try to debunk some common weather myths, and maybe even get a quick discussion on climate change. We look forward to hearing your comments and questions for Dr. Lackmann!</itunes:summary>

<title>Show #21: Education - Problems and Policies</title>

<itunes:summary>This week I will introduce a topic close to my heart, education. We'll likely talk a bit about Thomas Sowell's book, Inside American Education. We'll ask some important questions about American public education, including:

Is there anything wrong with our education?
If so, who or what do we blame?
What can be done about it?
Why do our higher education institutions consistently beat out public K-12 institutions in quality?
I'm sure most of you have had experience with public education, so call in and voice your own opinion. Those of you that went to other kinds of schools (private, charter, religious, home-school, etc.) call in and give us some contrast!
John will attempt to deliver an uninterrupted newscast, which Nathan and I will ensure never comes to pass! Tune in for the hilarious top-of-the-hour banter at 7:00 PM.
Tune in for the groovy and punky music I so often like to play. We're going to have fun this evening!

<title>Show #20: Graduate School - What's it all about?</title>
<itunes:subtitle>Dr. Steve Margolis will be joining us this evening to talk about these questions and help answer concerns you might have about going to graduate school. We'll discuss the difference between professional and academic degrees, as well as funding available.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Hey loyal FTR followers! Thanks to all of our subscribers to our recent podcasts, we appreciate your support!
Tonight's show will be focused on graduate school. Who should go?
Why should one go? How much does it cost? What's the price? What's the
process?
Dr. Steve Margolis will be joining us this evening to talk about
these questions and help answer concerns you might have about going to
graduate school. We'll discuss the difference between professional and
academic degrees, as well as funding available to candidates of each.
We'll cover blog news like: "cell phones in Africa," "what do economists really know?," and "the gender wage gap as a choice."
You'll also want to tune in to the top-of-the-hour banter around
current events. John will give us a stellar newscast, which Nathan and
I will proceed to interrupt until John throws up his hands in
frustration. Weather and traffic (if there is any!), too.
I'll play music tonight based on our guest's requests, but if you have any you can reach us in the usual manner below!</itunes:summary>

<title>Show #19: News from blogs and more respected sources</title>
<itunes:subtitle>“Citizen journalism” as it is sometimes called, is an effective way for people with information to disseminate it and for anyone with an opinion to have it published. It can be good, bad, or ugly; but that's what we're here for!</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>In light of the big game this evening against UNC, we realize most of you will be in your cars and unable or unwilling to call in for show on education. We figure you won't be in the car for the whole show either, so won't it be fun to offer you bite-sized pieces of news instead?
John will attempt to deliver an entire newscast without interruption, but don't worry; Nathan and I would never let that happen.
After checking in with John on current worldly affairs, we'll all examine some recent happenings in the blogosphere. “Citizen journalism” as it is sometimes called, is an effective way for people with information to disseminate it and for anyone with an opinion to have it published. It can be good, bad, or ugly; but that's what we're here for! Think of us as your “interest” filter. We read the crap so you don't have to.
Visit our Tumblelog to read the better stories, and some that we don't cover during the news cast each week. It's like a private window into our crowded heads. Who knows what interesting things you'll stumble across?
Due to recent issues finding the music in the studio that I want to play, I promise I'll play music. From artists. But that is all I can promise. Tune in for something funky for sure!</itunes:summary>
