The Hart Center in Fairfield Bay is looking for new members, and it’s a great place to get fit, make new friends, and experience a healthy way of life. It’s time for the annual membership drive on Monday, May 21, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and you are invited to join in with a tour and refreshments. You can find out all about the special membership packages being offered. There are several great options in order to accommodate those vacationing, living seasonally, or full time residents of Fairfield Bay. The Hart Center offers water classes, Zumba and other heart healthy type aerobic classes, as well a weight room, stationary biking, treadmills and indoor walking area. You can even play basketball or ‘pickle’ ball – that’s right, ask at the Hart Center to find out more about it. There’s even a Silver Sneakers program for seniors who want to stay fit. The Hart Center is located just off Dave Creek Parkway, at 134 Hillview Drive, next to the Fairfield Bay Community Club. The tournament will be held Saturday, May 19, tee time at 10:00 a.m. The cost for the four person scramble is $50 per person. There will also be a putting contest beginning at 9:00 a.m., be sure to be there by 8:45 am. There will also be a $10,000 hole-in-one price, prizes on the Par 3’s, Closest to the Line, and Closest to the pine. Take a chance on winning a prize with a donation of $1 for one or $5 for 6. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served at no extra charge. Be sure to register your team at the Indian Hills Pro Shop and take part in raising funds for the Fairfield Bay Fire Department! These great handcrafted items include scarves, Christmas items, jewelry, wood carving, knitting, stone critters and other craft items.The museum is an 1850 cabin that was dismantled and reconstructed on its current location and furnished with period items. Visit the museum and see the new display this month, and the display of the 1850s kitchen, a reflection of the past. Call Pauline Sears for more information at 501-884-3945 about the museum and featured crafts. The museum is just one more great thing to do in Fairfield Bay. The Log Cabin Museum is located between the Indian Hills Country Club and Indian Hills Golf Course, located on Snead Drive. Admission is free. Nearby is the Indian Rock House, a natural sandstone grotto believed to be the home of native Indians, and possibly the home of prehistoric cave dwellers. The art work is from Sandy Smith’s students, 5th to 12th grades. The art exhibit features an interesting variety of water color paintings, foil art, sculpture, masks and drawings. The exhibit can be seen during Indian Hills Country Club regular business hours; 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. IHCC will host a reception on April 18 with the public is invited. Be sure to come out and meet the students, some of the art work will is for sale.

It’s a lovely time here in the hills. Spring is a favorite time for hikers, photographers, gardeners, fishermen, artist and anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. If you haven’t been to Fairfield Bay this is a great time to visit! There are parks filled with beautiful plants, trees and shrubs that are maintained by Master Gardeners. There are scenic and wildlife photo opportunities for anyone interested in outdoor photography. Fishing in Greers Ferry Lake is terrific this time of year, just ask Jim at the Fairfield Bay Marina about walleye fishing – there’s a tournament going on right now and you might just want to mark your calendar for next year. It’s also a great time to take some golfing lessons or play a game or two with new friends you meet in Fairfield Bay. If you have been here before, come visit us again – you won’t be disappointed. Fairfield Bay is a small community with a lot to do.

Fairfield Bay has become known for being an arts community. One of many artists who have shown is Mary Shelton, a pen and ink artist who is exhibiting at the Fairfield Library through May 1. The North Central Arkansas Art League, NCAAL, is an active group of local artists in and around Fairfield Bay who are promoting the arts in the community and surrounding area. You don’t have to be a professional to join this group; it consists of beginners to professional artists of all ages. This group of artists meets weekly to paint and share their talents through exhibits in the community. Workshops with nationally known artists are offered to the membership and art enthusiast throughout the year. Come join in and be a part of the arts community or visit one of the exhibits. You can find the artist’s work are on display at the Fairfield Bay and Greer’s Ferry libraries, Ozark Medical Center, local banks, Indian Rock Village, Indian Hills Country Club, Fairfield Bay Community Club, and the Senior Center. NCAAL meets Mondays from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Building, HWY 330 at Greenwood, next to the Fire Station. Member’s paintings are on display for viewing and sale at the Bayside Gallery in the Greenwood Building during Monday’s meetings and by appointment.
