Spring Tennis will begin this month at the Fairfield Bay Tennis Center.

Tennis Clinics

Adult Beginner - Wed/Fri 9:30am-10:45am $15.00/class
Adult Intermediate/Advanced - Wed/Fri 11am-12:15am $15.00/class
Junior Clinic - Tues/Thurs $10.00/class

These classes are designed to provide instruction and drills to meet the skill level of all students. Classes are high energy and include work on all strokes, basic strategy and rules of the game.

Tennis Tots – Tues/Thurs 9:15am-10am $10.00/class

The purpose of these clinics is to give kids a fun introduction to the game of tennis. Classes
include basic knowledge of all strokes and fun games that teach footwork and listening skills. The structure of these clinics is success-oriented so that each child leaves with a positive experience and sense of accomplishment.

Pickleball is a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but is mounted two inches lower. The game is played with a hard paddle and a polymer wiffle ball.

Although pickleball appears to be very similar to tennis, there are key differences that make pickleball more accessible to a wider range of players, particularly children and seniors. Chief among these differences is the speed of the pickleball ball which typically moves at one-third of the average speed of a tennis ball. Equally important, however, is the size of the court which is just under one-third of the total area of a tennis court. This smaller area combined with the slower moving ball makes pickleball much easier to play than tennis.

Originally invented as a backyard pastime, pickleball is now an organized sport represented by national and international governing bodies. Since its inception in 1965, pickleball has spread across the United States and into Canada. It is now beginning to spread around the world. The United States Pickleball Association estimates there are more than 100,000 active pickleball players in that country alone. In Canada, where the game is still relatively new, there are already more than 5,000 players in just four provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Ontario. Meanwhile new organizations like the Singapore Pickleball Association and the All India Pickleball Association are bringing the game to Asia and beyond.

Come learn what Pickleball is all about and be a part of the craze that is sweeping retirement communities everywhere! Join Recreation Director Sheryl Paxton and Tennis Professional John Paxton for an evening of fun on Monday, October 10th, 2011 at 5pm at the Fairfield Bay Tennis Center. Start your Fourth of July Holiday Weekend off with great family fun on SATurdAy, JuLy 2nd in Fairfield Bay. The event will kick off with the Annual Fairfield Bay Parade at 9:30AM in the Lakewood Village Mall. Following the parade, the celebration continues just down the road in Woodland Mead Park from 10:30AM to 2:00PM, Sponsored by the Fairfield Bay Community Club, Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce, The City of Fairfield Bay, The Fairfield Bay Library, and KFFB.

This years events will include:

• A Mini-Golf Tournament
• Games and events for the kids
• Live Arabian Horses and Crafts presented by the Fairfield Bay Library
• Music by Amy Johnson, The Jerry Betnar Band, Mark McCord and Dixieland Band at the Amphitheater
