The January Socks are finished, and with 6 days still left in the month. I think that's pretty good considering there were moments when I thought I wouldn't complete them in time, and I worried about how it would look so bad to the blog that I couldn't keep my goal in the first month no less. After a very unproductive weekend, due to not feeling well and those pesky achy wrists I mentioned in the last post, I made myself buckle down and knit on these socks, and only these socks until I got them finished. It was definitely worth it and I'm pleased as punch with how they turned out. The pattern was easy to work, although I did have to use the chart and didn't memorize the 16 row repeat as I know others have, but nevertheless, they were an easy knit. Here are a few details:

Pattern: Embossed Leaves by Mona Schmidt from the book Favorite Socks. (You can also download it as an individual pattern on Ravelry.)
Yarn: Dream in Color Smooshy in the colour GoGo Grassy.
Needles: 2.75 mm
Started: January 1, 2012
Finished: January 25, 2012
Mods: None, I followed the pattern to the T.

Now that these are done I should get back to the Snowbunnies seeing as they haven't gotten any farther since the last post.

Be back soon,
xoxo

P.S. I have fallen down the rabbit hole and I'm now on Pinterest. There's a link to me on my sidebar if you'd like to see my boards or follow me. I'm just getting started but boy is it fun and inspiring. I hope to see you there!

Set-Backs

Happy Saturday,

Okay, so things didn't go quite as I had planned, which I'm sure you noticed by the lack of a post yesterday. What happened was; #1 - the project I picked to get my mojo back is taking me a bit longer than I had first thought. #2 - I had achy wrists yesterday that only allowed me to crochet a little bit. #3 - When I picked up the Snowbunnies yesterday morning to work on them, I noticed that I had done almost an entire repeat with the bunnies going in the wrong direction. You can kind of see it in the picture below:

See the white ones up top? Their little feet are going in the same direction as the brown ones below - that is not supposed to happen. I had to rip back to the beginning of the repeat which sort of made me a little sad, and also made me not want to look at the bunnies for a while till I recovered.

So after those setbacks, I really had nothing to blog about yesterday. I'm hoping that this weekend goes better and that I can actually make some real progress on things. But in the meantime, I'm going to bake a prune cake. In my world, baking solves everything.

Enjoy the weekend!
xoxo

Where I'm at

Hello,

This is where I am on the first mitten at the moment:

I seem to have stalled out a bit here, so I cast on a somewhat quick project that should take care of this. Sometimes I find I just need a little change of scenery to get me back on track. If all goes as planned, I'll be back tomorrow with a finished project.

Till then,
xoxo

Sweet Peas

Hello,

I have an adorable little knit to share today. Over the weekend I was gifted the pattern for the Sweet Peas Hat by Susan B. Anderson from the wonderful Julie (aka Tanknit). I had to start almost immediately, I just couldn't help myself. I have been admiring this pattern for quite some time, but I just never got around to purchasing it. So thank you Julie!! It was a cute and fast knit and turned out well if I do say so myself.

Sweet Pea Hat

I used Knit Picks Dishie in Flamingo and Honeydew. I'm waiting to see if a baby that a friend of mine is expecting soon is a boy or a girl, and if it's a girl, then I think this little hat will be the perfect gift.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy knitting baby hats. Now that I've been reminded, I'm planning on knitting more in the soon future. There's always new little ones arriving around here, and I think they should each have a cute hat, don't you?

As of last night, I think I've fallen down the rabbit hole:

I want to start off by saying a big thank you for all your comments on my Cupcake Mittens. You all are so sweet. My Knit Picks order hasn't made it here yet (due to the weather we have not been able to go pick it up, but I'm hearing Monday is going to be the day now.), so I still haven't decided which SpillyJane pattern I'm going to knit next. I'm hoping once I see the yarn it will help me make a decision.
Anyways, today's topic is socks, as you can see from the title of this post. You all know how socks are right up there at the top of my 'favourite-things-to-knit' list. (although I think colourwork mittens might have surpassed them lately, but never mind that.) So because of this, I decided to do a Self-Imposed-Sock-of-the-Month Club this year. I took my inspiration from the Yarn Harlot, and chose 12 sock patterns I have been wanting to knit, matched them up with 12 yarns from my stash that I have been wanting to use, printed/photocopied off the patterns and placed everything in 12 big Ziploc bags. I will pick one at random at the beginning of each month, and will try to complete them within those 30-31 days. I think this is a great way to use up some of my stash yarn, as well as get around to knitting those patterns I have been wanting to knit all these years. I also really like the element of surprise that is associated with picking at random, it makes it extra exciting for me, which is always a plus.

January's socks are Embossed Leaves by Mona Schmidt from Favorite Socks. I'm using Dream in Color Smooshy in a fun colour called "GoGo Grassy" that I got in the Itty-Bitty Easter Swap last year from Susan. I'm on the gusset decreases of the first sock right now:

I think these are going to be my weekend project. My sister is coming down to stay overnight and we are planning on watching some Jane Austen movies and knitting - two of my favourite things. I hope you have some fun and relaxing plans as well. And speaking of relaxing, have you read the Yarn Harlot's post? What is your take on it? Is knitting relaxing for you? For me, I think it all depends on the project. If it's something I have to knit that needs to be done very fast, I find it can become quite stressful, but if it's something I want to knit and that has no real deadline, then, yes, I find knitting to be very relaxing. I am one of those people who has to have something to do at all times, so I am very, very grateful that I learned how to knit and crochet. It helps relieve tension and keeps me focused on the present moment. One of my goals this year, as I mentioned before, is to learn to enjoy my projects and the actual process of my craft more, and I think reading this post, and the comments has helped me gain a new perspective on that.

Happy Weekend,

The wonderful Rae Lynne over at Drip Drip Drop has awarded me with the Liebster Award:

This is awarded to 5 enjoyable blogs with under 200 followers in blogland.

Wow! Thank you so much Rae Lynne, you are so kind and I feel very, very blessed! I would immediately give this award right back to her since she is so very inspiring and I enjoy reading her blog all the time, but I think the rules are for me to pass it on to 5 other people. So here are five of my favourite blogs I would like to award:

Knitting Thru the "Itty Bittys" - Barb has a great writing style that makes me feel like I'm chatting with a friend whenever I read her blog. She shares about her life and her adorable grandchildren as well as her knitting and crochet projects. We both have are fans of Susan B. Anderson's designs, and Barb is working her way through the 'Itty-Bittys" series, which I'd like to do in the future!
Knitting Knirvana - Suzanne has the best video podcast around. She is so fun to watch and I'm always excited for a new podcast or new blog post from her to see all the fun things she is up to.

Life on Laffer - Andrea is always knitting something gorgeous! I like checking in to see what new thing she has on, or off the needles. She is extremely talented, and everything she makes looks so professional. She also just started a new podcast with her friend that you can check out at wooljunkies.com.

Mommie of 4 Munchkins - Linsay is one very inspiring woman. She does so much for breast cancer awareness and is a great Mom to her 4 children. Her blog is always a fun one to watch, and she's got some yummy looking gluten-free recipes too!

She Knits - Mel is one of the fastest and talented knitters I know! She lives in Australia, so I find it very interesting to catch a glimpse of what life is like down there. She is a wonderful woman, and such a fantastic Mother, Knitter, and Friend!

By the way, Rae Lynne and I have a lot in common. Her list of blogs are also some of my favourites, so I highly recommend you check them out as well! Thank you again Rae Lynne, I feel so very honoured!!

xoxo

Edited to Add: I had origionally nominated Stefanie of Knitspiring Odyssey, but because she has already been given this award, I get to nominate someone else. So I have added Barb from Knitting Thru the Itty-Bittys.

Cupcake Mittens

Hello,

First off I want to thank all of you for your kind comments on the blanket and mittens yesterday. I did take some time out from working on the blanket to finish the thumb and weave in all the ends on the mittens, and after a nice steam blocking, here they are:

I used Knit Picks Palette yarn (if you'd like info on the specific colours you can check out my Ravelry project page.) just like the pattern calls for. I'm a fan of Palette because it's a good price and comes in a huge range of colours, 120 different shades, last time I checked. This was my first "real" colourwork project and I was amazed at how easy it was once I got going. It was fun to make each little cupcake in all the different flavours. These seemed to knit up fast because I was always wanting to see which kind came next. I've already got a Knit Picks order on the way with more yarn to make other pairs of SpillyJane mittens. These will definitely not be the last of her patterns you'll see from me. Now what should be next, maybe some Snowbunnies, Strawberries, or Swedish Fish? Or maybe Polska or Wintertime for Adriana?? The possibilities are endless.....

xoxo

P.S. I have to say a HUGE thank you to my sister for encouraging me to knit these in the first place. If it wasn't for her, I would have been too intimidated to even begin.

Distractions

Hello there,

I have been trying to write posts and upload photos for a couple of days now, but for one reason or another, neither has worked out as planned. So here I am, Friday night, and finally I'm getting a post together. To start off, I finished knitting the Cupcake Mittens. I still have one more thumb to do, weave in the ends and block them, but the main parts are both done. Here you can see the one when I was picking up the thumb stitches:

I'm so happy with these and how they are turning out. The blue and white striped thumb is so pretty and adds to the cuteness of the mittens. I'm hoping to get them finished over the weekend, so Monday I should have a completed pair to show you.

I also finished my Lizzie Bennet's Shawlette. I took my own sweet time knitting this one, so that's why it took a while, but it was honestly a ton of fun and I am really happy with it.

This is one of those projects where they yarn and the pattern come together perfectly to make something that really shines. I'm already excited to wear it. Now to find the perfect outfit....

Well, I think I will go and enjoy the rest of this Friday night, and do some more fun knitting. Have a great start to your weekend.

Wow, it's a shiny brand new year. That's something I find incredibly exciting. It's like a blank page all laid out before us. It reminds me of when Anne says, "Marilla, isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?" And also these verses: "The reason I can still find hope is that I keep this one thing in mind: the LORD's mercy. We were not completely wiped out. His compassion is never limited. It is new every morning. His faithfulness is great. My soul can say, 'The LORD is my lot in life. That is why I find hope in Him.' The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to anyone who seeks help from Him" Lamentations 3:21-25 That's a philosophy I want to take into this new year with me - that every day is a new beginning and I need to appreciate it and enjoy it for what it is. All my past mistakes are behind me and what lies ahead is full of promise.

This year I've decided not to make Resolutions. I find the word "Resolution" to be too strict and I feel like it's a huge fail on my part if I don't meet them. So this year I thought instead I would come up with some Goals I would like to achieve. Goals seem much more attainable, and less rigid. Goals make it seem as though everything is going to still be alright if I don't meet them this year. They are more like hopes with substance. So here are my Goals for 2012:
1. Knit and crochet for fun.
2. Knit myself a couple of sweaters.
3. No stressing about how many WIPs I have - I spent the better part of last year worrying over how many WIPs I had, and how in the world I was ever going to finish them all, that it took a ton of fun out of knitting for me. I've learned that as long as it is not bothering me how many WIPs I have, then I can have as many as I want. And if I do end up finding it stressful to have as many as I do, I can do something about that and finish some up - but with no deadline or pressure involved. I've learned over the past year that I am the type of person who enjoys having a few different projects going at one time, and there is nothing wrong with that.
4. Do more colourwork. - This one is coming along great:

I finished the first mitten (sans thumb) this morning. I am so so SO happy with it. I find it fascinating to knit each little cupcake and to see which "flavour" comes next. I think this is going to be the start of many more of these types of mittens. Last night I spent a long time looking through all SpillyJane's patterns and picking out which ones I want to knit next, so I'm sure I will be meeting the "colourwork goal" quite easily.

Just in case you are interested, I thought I'd share a few personal Goals for 2012:
1. Grow closer to Jesus and in my relationship with Him.
2. Read and study the Bible more diligently.
3. Stop complaining and learn to have a thankful attitude.
4. Read more - I'm working on a list, but so far I have: Emma, Mansfield Park and Persuasion, all by Jane Austen, as well as some of the many books we own that I have yet to read. I'm sure I will be adding to this list all throughout the year.

Now I am off to start the second mitten and watch a movie or two. Have a great evening!

I'll be back tomorrow to explain more, but right now I need to get some sleep if I'm going to be able to stay awake past midnight tomorrow night.

xoxo

I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and say thank you for being such wonderful readers. I truly think of you all as friends and I feel so very blessed!! I hope each one of you has a Christmas full of love, laughter, caring, sharing, and remembering what the Season is really about. Without our amazing and loving Saviour's birth, we wouldn't have anything to celebrate.

I thought I'd leave you with a few photos of some cookie basket assembling,

I had to sneak away from my cleaning to quickly tell you all that the cookies are baked and most of the baskets have been assembled and some delivered, with a few more scheduled to go out for delivery with my Dad in the morning. So, that means that the cookie baskets are pretty much done! I actually pulled it off - with a lot of help and a ton of hard work, but it was worth it! Now my sister and I are cleaning up and getting things ready for our family dinner tomorrow.

Tomorrow is also my Mom's birthday! I have her cake baked up and I will ice it in the morning. I was going to do that tonight but it has a whipped cream icing and so it needs to go in the fridge. However, the Christmas ham is in the way, but by morning it should be in the oven.

I even checked my knitting list, and I am done, except for I'd like to knit a little miniature for a stocking stuffer if I have time. I haven't told anyone this since they already think I'm crazy, so I thought it might be best to knit it up tonight once everyone is asleep. I'll let you know how that goes!!

I should get back to the cleaning! I hope you are all having a wonderful start to the Christmas Holidays!!

Things are coming along great! I got more cookies baked today and even got my Mom to help me with icing the sugar cookies. I still have a lot more to do, but I'm getting there. Tomorrow is going to be a big baking day, so once that is over I should have a good idea of where I stand with the cookie baskets. I don't know if I've ever mentioned about the cookie baskets before or not, so in case I haven't I will explain: every year I bake up all these different kinds of cookies and then Christmas Eve day, my Mom and sister put together these beautiful baskets to give as gifts to family and friends. This year we have to assemble the baskets a day earlier since we are having Christmas dinner at our house on Christmas Eve, so with that, and the fact that I thought there was an extra week before Christmas, I'm having to rush a bit with the cookies, but I have faith that it will all get done.

I still have not looked at my knitting list to make sure I have everything I need finished....I think I might be avoiding it a teeny bit.....but really, it's probably best not to know right now when I can't do anything about it, well, at least until the cookies are done.

I've got one more gift finished! I knit another cowl using the Bernat Really Big yarn, this time in the Amazon colourway. It's for my Auntie Ruth, and since she has dark hair, I think this will look really pretty on her. Again, it was a quick knit and I'm really happy with the end result!! Now I just need to wrap it up. I will be back soon with an update on how things are coming along, at the moment, I don't really know!!

Much Love, xoxo

Please Tell Me You're Kidding!!

Happy Holidays!

Okay, I know I said that I wanted this Christmas Season to be less stressful and more about the small things and enjoying life. Well, today I realized that I have one less week than I thought I did before Christmas is here. I mean, I thought there was one more extra week. Like I kept saying to myself, "Oh don't stress about that Christmas gift you need to knit. It's big needles and chunky yarn, and plus you still have another week." or "start making my cookie list? Oh, why worry about that already, I still have one more week." Until this morning when my most wonderful Mother told me the cold hard truth - next week is THE week before Christmas, which by the way is on the Sunday of that SAME WEEK!! How did I miss this?? I mean come on here, I have been opening a gift each day as part of the Advent Swap, and I hang up another number every day on my Advent bunting! It's not like I'm not aware of what day it is; it is clearly December 14th. So how did this happen then? My guess is that it is because I never looked at an actual calendar that showed all the days of the month on one page. Somehow by not seeing "the big picture" I missed out on the fact that there is only 10 Days left before Christmas - and yes, I did just count that right now, and no, I don't feel the best at the moment.... So now this leaves me grasping at all the fragments of my broken plans and trying to piece something together that will work. My Mom just walked by and said, "It's amazing what you can do in 9 days" - gotta love her and her enthusiasm. I think I'm going to go and lie down for a bit and think. I'll report back in a few days to let you all know how it's going. Wish me luck!!

This cowl is a birthday present for my Mom. She picked out the yarn the other day and said she'd like to have a cowl like the store sample, so here it is. The yarn is Really Big by Bernat and the pattern is the Knit Cowl that is included on the label. It uses big needles and the yarn is a super bulky, so this was a very quick and easy knit. I think she'll like it! I like fast projects like these, especially around the holidays!!

Today has been a busy day of Christmas shopping in the city. Now I feel like I need a nap! It's been raining here all day and since we have no snow it doesn't look very Christmasy. I can wait for the snow a bit longer though, at least until all the shopping is done!

Have a great evening!

I finally got the Star Advent Bunting done this past week! It's all hung up and I'm enjoying putting up the numbers for each day!! Who would have thought that such a small thing as that could bring me such excitement??

I didn't do the lovely little felt and fabric numbers like Lucy did for hers because it was getting too late for me to make them, so what I did instead was cut out bigger and smaller circles from construction paper and then wrote the number on a small one and glued it onto the middle of a big one. I punched a hole in the top of each and hung them with coloured paperclips like Lucy did, and I think all in all, they turned out very cute. Maybe for next year I will make the felt ones, since I'm sure they will last a lot longer and be prettier.

To hang them, up I chained a nice looooonnnngggg chain and strung each star through the two side points. I attached two hooks to the wall, and tied the ends of the chains into loops and attached those to the hooks. The hooks are the kind that you can easily remove, so that will be great once the holidays are over.

I have to admit that every so often I come into my room to admire it!! The combination of the colours, the cute little star shapes, and seeing them all strung up together just makes me so happy!! I think that's one of the best things about handmade items.

Wow, my last post was November 30th! It doesn't even seem like it's been that long! This beginning part of December has gone by rather quickly, but I hope it starts to slow down soon so I get the chance to enjoy it a bit more.

I am almost done my Christmas gifts, I think. I still have a few finishing details to do on a couple of projects, but most are at least done the biggest part. I hope that by the end of this week I will have them all completed and wrapped up under the tree. That's my goal anyways. We will see how it goes.

The light levels have been pretty low here over the last bit, so I haven't taken many pictures. However, I took one this morning of a cowl I finished up over the weekend when I was at my sister's house.

This is the Thick and Quick Ribbed Cowl and I used a skein of Knit Picks Swish Bulky in Saffron that was in my stash. I really like how it turned out. It's soft and cozy around your neck, just as a cowl should be. I'm still not sure if this will be a gift or not. I also knitted up another cowl, which is waiting for the right buttons, and finished up my Mom's Christmas socks, but they still need their heels put in yet.

Over the past while I've worked on the Sweet Flower Granny Blanket as well as a few tiny gifts that I will share when I get some better lighting for pictures. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that when I was really stressed out last week, I started a Milk Run Shawl for myself. What better way to curb stress than to start another project, right? Actually, I think not, but it helped distract me until I could get a few other things under control.

I've also been enjoying opening up my daily gifts from Jessica!! It's such a bright spot in my day!! I usually open my gift while having my morning coffee, since that is the best way to enjoy a present I think. All I can say is that I have been spoiled, spoiled, SPOILED by Jessica. I'm enjoying it all immensely!!

I hope you are all having a great start to the week. I will try to post more often now that I'm aware of my tardiness!

See you soon, xoxo

Itty-Bitty Advent Swap Package

Good Evening,

I wanted to share some pictures tonight of my Itty-Bitty Advent swap package that I received from Jessica. I got it in the mail on Monday and had only opened the box for a quick peek and to read the card, but tonight I unpacked it all and put it under my palm tree. Here's a picture of what I seen when I opened the box:

And here is it all unpacked under the tree:

Squeeeaalll!!!! I can hardly wait till tomorrow when I get to open the first package!! I will be posting pictures each day on my Ravelry page as I open them, so if you are interested in seeing what is in each one you can check it out by clicking here. I have a feeling December is going to be an especially fun month!!

Have a great night, xoxo

P.S. I wanted to let you all know that Daniel is home now and is doing great! He is getting better each day and we are so thankful to the Lord for it all!! He still has a ways to go yet in his recovery but he's making strides at a remarkable pace. Thank you so much for praying for him, we all appreciate it so very much!!!!

A Reveal

Hello!

Over the weekend I got my Mom's Christmas socks done except for the heels. Here's a picture of the second one when it was almost finished.

Isn't the colourway pretty? She picked it out herself, it's Knit Picks Stroll Hand-Painted in Punky. I've been having a fun time knitting them because I like to see what colour is going to come up next. This was my last pair of Christmas socks. Now I just have to do some heels and they will all be completely done and can be wrapped up! Yippee!!!! I'm getting closer and closer to being done my gifts!!

Also, I finally got the colourful project started over the weekend and I can now reveal what it is going to be....

It's my own interpretation of the Sweet Flower Granny Blanket from Attic24. I was originally going to make a blanket like Lucy's BB, but I fell in love with this blanket instead and just had to make it. Lucy hasn't written up the pattern yet, so I set out on the adventure of trying to make something similar in looks. I used the flower information she gave here, and pretty much winged it for the rest. It took quite a few tries and a couple of hours before I got something that looked good to me. I'm using Bernat Super Value and leftover Red Heart Super Saver from my stash in colours that are pretty close to Lucy's since I'm not fully confident in my own colour choosing yet. I know it's probably not the smartest thing to start a blanket while I'm still working on Christmas presents, but I just had to. You see it's getting a lot colder here now and I need a extra blanket on my bed at night, and since it's almost not Fall anymore my Fall Blankie needs to be put away and replaced with a new one, but I don't have a new one, so therefore, I need to make one. Sounds logical right? I thought so.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers!! I hope you are having a blessed and wonderful day :) We aren't doing too much to celebrate this year, but some years we do. I use the excuse that since part of my Dad's family lives in the States, then we can celebrate too. I am making a pumpkin pie though, and of course we're going to watch Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving - it's a tradition! I've also been taking some time today to reflect on all the things I am thankful for. I think it is something I need to do more often. Lately I can get so caught up in everyday life that I forget to take the time to enjoy all the many blessings in my life. It's something I definately want to be more mindful of.

In some crafty news, I've had a bit of a hold-up with the colourful project I was going to start this week. I changed my mind about what pattern I am going to use and this resulted in needing a few more colours, which I'm planning on picking up tomorrow. But in the meantime, I finished up the Advent Bunting Stars!! Now they need to be starched and I have to come up with some sort of a plan for the numbers. I'm not sure what I want to do with that part yet, but I have a few more days to decide.

I also have a couple of smaller projects that I want to cast on since most of my Christmas knitting/crocheting is done. I'm hoping to work on them this weekend while I'm staying at my sister's house. Most of them are along the "mindless" knitting lines, so I can knit them while watching movies and visiting. I'm not sure yet if I will keep them for myself or put them aside for gifts, but I have the yarn just laying around so I thought it best to use it up just in case there might be some new yarn under the Christmas tree for me!!

So have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone and I will hopefully be back soon with some in-progress photos!!
