Jesus Forgives Sin

Read: Matthew 9:2-8

Ask your child:

• How did Jesus’ power to heal prove His authority to forgive? Only God has the authority to forgive sins. When Jesus healed the paralytic, he performed a miracle, which proved that He is God.
• Why did the people glorify God after seeing Jesus’ miracles? They were amazed that Jesus had the autority to both heal and forgive.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is God. Therefore, we should trust Him to forgive our sins.

Practice:

• Believe that Jesus has the authority to forgive sin.
• Embrace Jesus as Lord.
• Praise God for providing salvation to Christ’s followers.

Praise: “Lord, I Life Your Name on High”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 14:13-21

Memorize for May 11-25: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15*

Jesus Calms the Storm and Casts Out Demons

Read: Matthew 8:18, 23-34

Ask your child:

• What does Christ’s calming of the storm reveal about Him? Jesus is Master of the natural world.
• What does Christ’s healing of the demon-possessed man reveal? Jesus is Master of the supernatural world.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is Master over everything that exists. Therefore, we should submit our lives to Him.

Practice: 

• Praise Jesus for His power.
• Trust in Jesus’s care for you.
• Obey Jesus as Lord.

Praise: “Rejoice, the Lord is King”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 9:1-8

Ask your child:

• What did Jesus ask His disciples to do? “Follow Me.”
• What did Jesus say He would make His disciples? Fishers of men.
• What was Jesus’ message? “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Emphasize this principle: Jesus calls people to Himself. Therefore, we should follow Him and urge others to do the same.

Practice:

• Praise God for calling sinners into a relationship with Him.
• Embrace Jesus as Lord and obey His Word.
• Cultivate a relationship with Jesus through Bible study and prayer.
• Share the hope Jesus offers with others.

John Prepares the Way for Jesus

Read: Matthew 3:1-17

Ask your child:

• What was John the Baptist’s message? Repent and prepare to receive the Messiah.
• Why wouldn’t John baptize the Pharisees and Sadducees? They didn’t believe they needed to repent.
• Why was Jesus baptized? Though Jesus was sinless, He was fulfilling the Father’s plan by demonstrating His willingness to be counted as a sinner.
• Emphasize this principle: God sent His Son. Therefore, we should repent and prepare the way for His work.

Practice:

• Acknowledge sin and repent by trusting Jesus for salvation.
• Live to please God the Father on a daily basis.
• Share the hope of the gospel with others.

Praise: “Lord, Be Glorified”

• Why did Israel ask for a king? They wanted to be like other nations.
• What happened when Israel strayed into idolatry? The kingdom was divided and eventually the people were exiled.
• What happened when Israel repented? God restored Israel.

Emphasize this principle: God offers abundant life to His people. Therefore, we should repent and devote ourselves to him.

Practice:

• Praise God for being faithful to His people and promises.
• Repent of sin and cling to the Lord.

Praise: “Create In Me a Clean Heart”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 3:1-17
