The Parable of the Talents

Read: Matthew 25:14-30

Ask your child:

Why was the master happy with the servants who earned talents? They managed well the things entrusted to them.

What kind of servant is Jesus looking for? Faithful servants

Emphasize this principle: God is our master. Therefore, we should faithfully serve Him.

Practice:

List some things God has entrusted to you that He intends you to use for His glory.

Identify ways that you could faithfully steward what God has entrusted to you.

Praise: “I Surrender All”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 21:1-11

Memorize for June 1-22: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20*

* Preschool verse in bold

Jesus Defines Discipleship

Read: Matthew 16:13-17, 20-27

Ask your child:

What did the Father reveal to Peter? “Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.”

What does it mean to deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Christ? Christians must crucify sinful desires and choose to please God.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus rewards faithful choices. Therefore, we should deny ourselves and follow Him.

Practice:

Say “no” to sinful desires, and choose to please God instead.

Rejoice that Jesus will reward those who faithfully follow Him.

Praise: “Change My Heart, O God”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 25:14-30

Memorize for June 1-22: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20*

Jesus Walks on Water

Read: Matthew 14:22-33

Ask your child:

What miracles did Jesus perform in today’s lesson? Jesus walked on water, enabled Peter to do the same, and calmed the storm.

Why did the disciples worship Jesus? In witnessing Christ’s power over nature, the disciples recognized in a deeper way that Jesus is God.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is Almighty God. Therefore, we should trust and worship him.

Practice:

Make Jesus the focus of your life.

Worship Jesus with humility and passion.

Trust in Jesus by serving and obeying Him.

Read: Matthew 14:13-21

Jesus Forgives Sin

Read: Matthew 9:2-8

Ask your child:

How did Jesus’ power to heal prove His authority to forgive? Only God has the authority to forgive sins. When Jesus healed the paralytic, he performed a miracle, which proved that He is God.

Why did the people glorify God after seeing Jesus’ miracles? They were amazed that Jesus had the autority to both heal and forgive.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is God. Therefore, we should trust Him to forgive our sins.

Practice:

Believe that Jesus has the authority to forgive sin.

Embrace Jesus as Lord.

Praise God for providing salvation to Christ’s followers.

John Calls the Disciples

Read: Matthew 4:12-25

Ask your child:

What did Jesus ask His disciples to do? “Follow Me.”

What did Jesus say He would make His disciples? Fishers of men.

What was Jesus’ message? “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Emphasize this principle: Jesus calls people to Himself. Therefore, we should follow Him and urge others to do the same.

Practice:

Praise God for calling sinners into a relationship with Him.

Embrace Jesus as Lord and obey His Word.

Cultivate a relationship with Jesus through Bible study and prayer.

John Prepares the Way for Jesus

Read: Matthew 3:1-17

Ask your child:

What was John the Baptist’s message? Repent and prepare to receive the Messiah.

Why wouldn’t John baptize the Pharisees and Sadducees? They didn’t believe they needed to repent.

Why was Jesus baptized? Though Jesus was sinless, He was fulfilling the Father’s plan by demonstrating His willingness to be counted as a sinner.

Emphasize this principle: God sent His Son. Therefore, we should repent and prepare the way for His work.

Practice:

Acknowledge sin and repent by trusting Jesus for salvation.

Live to please God the Father on a daily basis.

Share the hope of the gospel with others.

Praise: “Lord, Be Glorified”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 4:12-25

Memorize for Apr 13-May 4: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8*

* Preschool verse in bold

1 Samuel-Esther Review

Read: 1 Samuel-Esther

Ask your child:

Why did Israel ask for a king? They wanted to be like other nations.

What happened when Israel strayed into idolatry? The kingdom was divided and eventually the people were exiled.

What happened when Israel repented? God restored Israel.

Emphasize this principle: God offers abundant life to His people. Therefore, we should repent and devote ourselves to him.

Practice:

Praise God for being faithful to His people and promises.

Repent of sin and cling to the Lord.

Praise: “Create In Me a Clean Heart”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 3:1-17

Memorize for Apr 13-May 4: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8*

How did the Israelites respond to the reading of God’s Word? They repented.

Repent from sin and live to honor God.
