New Testament Review

Review: Matthew-Revelation

Ask your child:

Who is Jesus? Jesus is God in human flesh.

How can people be saved? We must trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus as our only hope of heaven.

What mission did Jesus give His church? To share the gospel with others.

What future awaits Christ’s followers? They will spend eternity in His presence.

Emphasize this principle: God offers new life through his Son. Therefore, we should follow Jesus and share him with others.

Practice:

Embrace Jesus as Lord.

Encourage others to trust in Jesus.

Praise: “Victory in Jesus”

God Creates a New Heaven and a New Earth

Read: Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27; 22:12-17

Ask your child:

What will the new heavens and new earth be like? This new creation will be a place of indescribable beauty that is free from the marks of sin and evil.

Why are Jesus’ return and the new creation encouraging to believers? When Christ returns, His followers will dwell eternally with Him in the new creation.

Emphasize this principle: God promises a glorious future for his children. Therefore, we should repent and live for that day.

Practice:

Live for the glory of God.

Rejoice while waiting for Christ’s return.

Read: Revelation 20:1-15

God Will Judge at the Great White Throne

Ask your child:

What will happen to Satan and his followers? They will be defeated and cast into the lake of fire.

What will happen to those whose names are not found in the book of life? They will be judged at the Great White Throne and cast into the lake of fire.

Emphasize this principle: God judges sin and rewards faith. Therefore, we should follow Christ and share him with others.

Practice:

Escape God’s judgment by believing in Christ and repenting of sin.

Eagerly share the gospel with others who are not saved.

Praise: “Holy Lord”

Prepare for next week: Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27; 22:12-17

The Gentiles Receive the Gospel

Read: Acts 10:1-11:18

Ask your child:

How did God show that He wanted Gentiles to be saved? God gave Peter a vision which revealed that He had eliminated the distinctions between Jews and Gentiles, making the gospel available to all people.

What happened when Peter preached in Cornelius’s home? The Holy Spirit fell upon the Gentile believers.

Emphasize this principle: God offers salvation to all people. Therefore, we should believe and proclaim the truth to others.

Practice:

Rejoice that God has chosen to save both Jews and Gentiles.

Share the gospel with those around you.

Saul is Converted on the Road to Damascus

Read: Acts 9:1-31

Ask your child:

What happened to Saul on the road to Damascus? Saul was blinded by a light from heaven. Jesus spoke to him, and Saul placed his faith in Christ.

How did Saul demonstrate his faith in Jesus? Saul proclaimed Christ and urged others to follow Him.

Emphasize this principle: God can transform anyone’s life. Therefore, we should repent and seek to be used by Him.

Practice:

We would encourage you to use the ideas below to review Sunday’s lesson with your family.

Peter and John Preach the Gospel

Read: Acts 3:1-4:31

Ask your child:

How was Jesus’ name exalted in this passage? Miracles were performed in Jesus’ name. Peter proclaimed that there is no other name under heaven by which people can be saved.

How did God answer the believer’s prayer? The believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the Word with boldness.

Emphasize this principle: There is power in Jesus’ name. Therefore, we should believe in Him and represent Him to others.

Practice:

Praise God for providing salvation through Jesus Christ.

Proclaim salvation in Jesus’ name with boldness.

Praise: “Come, Let Us Worship and Bow Down”

Prepare for next week: Acts 6:1-7:60

Memorize for June 29-Jul 13: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105*

Jesus Ascends and the Holy Spirit Arrives

Read: Acts 1:1-11; 2:1-47

Ask your child:

What was God’s plan for the spread of the gospel? The disciples would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 1:8)

What happened on the day of Pentecost? The Holy Spirit indwelt Christ’s followers and enabled them to speak in languages understood by foreign peoples. Peter proclaimed the gospel. 3000 believed and were baptized.

What characterized the lives of early Christians? They cared for the needs of fellow believers.

Emphasize this principle: God has given us a mission. Therefore, we should tell others about Jesus.

Practice:

Proclaim the gospel to others.

Share with believers in need.

Praise: “Seek Ye First”

Prepare for next week: Acts 3:1-4:31

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection

Read: Matthew 27:27-28:20

Ask your child:

Why was the death of Jesus important? Through His death, Jesus made full payment for the sins of humanity.

Why was the resurrection of Christ important? Jesus’ resurrection proved that He had defeated sin and death.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. Therefore, we should rejoice and embrace Him as Lord.

Practice:

Praise God for Christ’s sacrifice.

Follow Jesus as Lord.

Praise: “How Great Thou Art”

Prepare for next week: Acts 1:1-11; 2:1-47

Memorize for June 1-22: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20*

Jesus’ Triumphal Entry

Read: Matthew 21:1-11

Ask your child:

What were the people doing as Jesus entered Jerusalem? Choosing their pass over lamb.

Why did people celebrate Jesus’ entry into the city? Many believed He would deliver them from Roman rule.

From what did Jesus plan to deliver people?

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is our Passover Lamb. Therefore, we should choose to follow Him.

Practice:

Embrace Jesus as the One who can deliver you from sin.

Choose to follow Jesus by obeying His Word.

Praise: “Majesty”
