God Sends Isaac and Tests Abraham

Read: Genesis 17:15-17,19, 21; 21:1-8; 22:1-19

Ask your child:

• Who was Isaac? Abraham’s promised son
• Why did God ask Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering? To test Abraham and reveal the quality of his faith.
• How did Abraham pass the test? By obeying everything God told him, demonstrating that he loved his God more than anything else.

Emphasize this principle: God is faithful to His people. Therefore, we should give Him first place in our lives.

Practice: 

• Praise God for keeping His promises.
• Demonstrate love for God by obeying His Word.
• Cultivate love for God through Bible study, prayer, and service.
• Display the character of God to others by keeping your promises.

Praise: “Seek Ye First”

Memorize Sep 15-Oct 6: “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17*

God Makes a Promise to Abram

Read: Genesis 11:27–12:9

Ask your child:

• What did Abram worship before God called him? Idols
• What did God ask Abram to do? Leave his homeland and follow Him.
• What did God promise Abram? Land, seed, and blessing (see Gen. 12:1-3)

Emphasize this principle: God calls people to follow him. Therefore, we should trust Him and obey.

Practice:

• Trust God’s promises.
• Follow God by believing in His Son.
• Obey God even when it is difficult.

Praise: “Trust and Obey”

Prepare for next week: Genesis 16:1–6; 17:15–21; 18:1–15

• What did God command the people to do? Be fruitful, multiply, and spread out across the earth
• Why did the people build the tower? To make a name for themselves
• Why did God confuse the languages? To limit their capacity for rebellion

Emphasize this principle: God opposes the proud. Therefore, we should humble ourselves and obey.

Practice:

• Turn from pride.
• Humbly obey the Lord.

Praise: “In My Life, Lord, Be Glorified”

Prepare for next week: Genesis 11:27–12:9

God Floods the Earth and Preserves Noah

Read:  Genesis 6:5–9:17

Emphasize this principle:  God shows grace to those who repent. Therefore, we should turn from sin and follow Him.

Ask your child:

• Why did God flood the earth? Man’s sin became “great on the earth.”
• How did Noah respond to God’s grace? He obeyed God by constructing the ark.

Practice: 

• Repent and embrace Jesus as Lord.
• Obey and trust God as Noah did.

Praise: “Rise and Shine”

Prepare for next week:  Genesis 11:1-9

• What were the results of their sin? Physical and spiritual separation from God.

Emphasize this principle: God judges sin. Therefore, we should repent and obey.

Practice:

• Carefully obey God’s instructions.
• Repent from sin and trust God.
