The Parable of the Talents

Read: Matthew 25:14-30

Ask your child:

• Why was the master happy with the servants who earned talents? They managed well the things entrusted to them.
• What kind of servant is Jesus looking for? Faithful servants

Emphasize this principle: God is our master. Therefore, we should faithfully serve Him.

Practice: 

• List some things God has entrusted to you that He intends you to use for His glory.
• Identify ways that you could faithfully steward what God has entrusted to you.

Praise: “I Surrender All”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 21:1-11

Memorize for June 1-22: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20*

Jesus Defines Discipleship

Read: Matthew 16:13-17, 20-27

Ask your child:

• What did the Father reveal to Peter? “Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.”
• What does it mean to deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Christ? Christians must crucify sinful desires and choose to please God.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus rewards faithful choices. Therefore, we should deny ourselves and follow Him.

Practice:

• Say “no” to sinful desires, and choose to please God instead.
• Rejoice that Jesus will reward those who faithfully follow Him.

Praise: “Change My Heart, O God”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 25:14-30

• What miracles did Jesus perform in today’s lesson? Jesus walked on water, enabled Peter to do the same, and calmed the storm.
• Why did the disciples worship Jesus? In witnessing Christ’s power over nature, the disciples recognized in a deeper way that Jesus is God.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is Almighty God. Therefore, we should trust and worship him.

Practice:

• Make Jesus the focus of your life.
• Worship Jesus with humility and passion.
• Trust in Jesus by serving and obeying Him.

Praise: “He Is Lord”

• Why did Jesus ask the disciples to give the people food? Jesus was testing the faith of His disciples in an effort to help them trust His ability to solve impossible problems.
• What does Jesus’ miracle reveal about His person and authority? The miracle proved that Jesus is God and deserving of our faith and obedience.

Emphasize this principle: Nothing is impossible for God. Therefore, we should trust and submit to Him.

Practice:

• Believe in Jesus as God.
• Treat those who need Jesus with compassion.

Praise: “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus Forgives Sin

Read: Matthew 9:2-8

Ask your child:

• How did Jesus’ power to heal prove His authority to forgive? Only God has the authority to forgive sins. When Jesus healed the paralytic, he performed a miracle, which proved that He is God.
• Why did the people glorify God after seeing Jesus’ miracles? They were amazed that Jesus had the autority to both heal and forgive.

Emphasize this principle: Jesus is God. Therefore, we should trust Him to forgive our sins.

Practice:

• Believe that Jesus has the authority to forgive sin.
• Embrace Jesus as Lord.
• Praise God for providing salvation to Christ’s followers.

Praise: “Lord, I Life Your Name on High”

Prepare for next week: Matthew 14:13-21

Memorize for May 11-25: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15*
