God Parts the Red Sea

Read: Exodus 14-15

Ask your child:

• Why did God have the Israelites wait before crossing the Red Sea? To teach the Israelites to trust Him.

• How did the Lord protect the Israelites? He barred the way of the Egyptians as He parted the Red Sea for His people.

• How did the Israelites respond? They worshipped Him for His deliverance.

Emphasize this principle: God is a powerful deliverer. Therefore, we should trust and worship Him.

Practice: 

• Praise God for His power and His plan.
• Trust Jesus for deliverance from sin and death.
• Post reminders of God’s ability to rescue from temptation.

Sing: “Pharaoh, Pharaoh”

Prepare for next week:  Read Exodus 19-20

Memorize for Oct 13-Nov 3: “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” James 1:22*

God Sends Plagues and Ordains the Passover

Read: Exodus 7-13

Ask your child:

• How did God redeem His people from bondage in Egypt? He sent 10 plagues.
• Why were the plagues necessary? Pharaoh would not let the Israelites go. God wanted to show His power to the Israelites, Egyptians & world.
• What is Passover? A feast celebrating God’s mercy when the angel of the Lord “passed over” the Israelites’ homes while bringing judgment on the Egyptians.
• What is mercy? God withholds the punishment that one deserves

Emphasize this principle:  God redeems His people from bondage.

Therefore, we should surrender our lives to Him.

Practice:

• Praise God for His redeeming people from bondage.
• Trust God by quickly obeying and repenting.

Sing: “Go Down Moses”

Prepare for next week:  Read Exodus 14-15

God Prepares Israel for Deliverance

Read: Exodus 1-4

Ask your child:

• What is the storyline of Exodus? God redeems the Hebrew people and makes them His own special nation.
• Was Pharaoh able to spoil God’s plan for His people? No
• Who did God prepare to deliver His people? Moses
• How did God appear to Moses? In the burning bush
• Why did Moses remove his sandals? He was in God’s holy presence.
• What is holiness? To be set apart from sin
• Could Moses change God’s plan to use him? No

Emphasize this principle:  God always accomplishes His will. Therefore, we should cooperate with his plan.

Practice: 

• Praise God for His holiness and care of His people.
• Trust God’s plan and seek His help when life gets hard.

Praise: “Go Down Moses”

• What existed “in the beginning”? Only God
• Who created everything that exists? God
• What do the stories of Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph teach us about our relationship with God? A relationship with God requires trust and submission to His plan.
• Who always takes care of His people? God

Emphasize this principle: God created us to know Him. Therefore,

we should trust and obey.

Practice:

• Praise God for His work in creation & faithfulness to His people.
• Trust in God’s control by obeying His Word

God Preserves Joseph and Israel

Read: Genesis 37, 39-50

Ask your child:

• What did Joseph’s brothers do to him? His brothers sold him into slavery.
• What happened after Joseph was sold into slavery? He interpreted dreams for Pharaoh and was put in charge of Egypt.
• How did God reunite Joseph and his brothers? The famine brought them together. Joseph forgave and cared for his family.

Emphasize this principle: God uses everything in our lives to help us grow. Therefore, we should please him with every choice we make.

Practice:

• Trust God, even when life is hard.
• Forgive others when they sin against you.

Praise: “Rejoice in the Lord Always”

Prepare for next week: Genesis 1-50

Memorize Sep 15-Oct 6: “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17*
