<itunes:summary>The truth is that all sin is committed against God, first and last. Since God owns every thing and every life, when we sin against each other, our offense begins at the throne of God.

But the good news is we have a High Priest, the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Lord, who has entered heaven and, even now, is sitting at the right hand of God Almighty, our Father, pleading for us. Let us hold firmly to what we believe. For this High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin.

Be assured that Your High Priest stands ready to forgive you today ALL your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>When it comes to raising a family, even the best of parents struggle. Jesus once told a story about a great father who raised two sons, and both of his boys had problems. One of his kids rebelled, ran off, and got himself into all kinds of trouble. The other stayed home, worked the family business, but was miserable and resentful.

The problem with parenting is that just about the time you get pretty good at it, your kids grow up and move away.

According to Jesus, there was only one perfect parent ever: "...your heavenly Father is perfect."

Now that's good news for us, after all, He is our Father too, and because He is our Father, we have a reason to celebrate together as family in Jesus Christ.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>When you jump in your car and take it for a drive, you probably give little if any thought about what's going on behind the scenes. But open the hood while the car is running and it becomes immediately obvious that there's a lot more going on than meets the eye. Stand in front of a great big 100+ story skyscraper or even the home where you live and just think about all the pieces and parts - the nails and screws, two by fours and two by sixes - all connected together to make your house. Your body is perhaps the greatest expression of a whole lot of stuff going on behind the scenes 24-7.

Likewise, when you step onto our campus any day of the week - to drop off or pick up your child from school, to attend a Bible study, to worship or attend Sunday School - it doesn't take long to see that it takes many people to make all these things happen.

When Paul wrote those words, "From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work" (Ephes. 4:16 NIV), he was thinking of the complex nature of the church - united and working together in order to accomplish something great in the name of Christ.

<itunes:summary>Things you never discuss It's not politics, but it is religious. It is a subject that, when you bring it up in conversation, can raise a lot of dust. What is this dust-raising subject? Worship! As we walk the Journey together, how do we define what worship is and what it is not? What kind of worship does God desire from us? What kind of worship does God require of us? What does real worship look like and who can offer it? Is there a "style" of worship that is better than another?

Debates about the styles of worship have been going on for a long time. Although, I don't remember debating what style of worship was right when I was a child or even at the seminary. We tend to think that this question is new to our day. But it isn't!

The Samaritan woman once tried to debate Jesus on the best time, place, and style for worship. Jesus told the woman that these were external issues and irrelevant. Where you worship is not as important as whom you worship and how much of yourself you offer to God when you worship. There is a right and wrong way to worship. Let's begin our discussion in Hebrews12:28

'Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please him'. Hebrews 12:28 (TEV)

What if we define worship as: all that "I intentionally offer to God"? It might raise a question or two, such as: What can I offer to God as a sinful human being that could possibly be pleasing to him? Search the Scripture and you might be surprised at the answer. But, if we define worship as that which "I intentionally offer to God from my heart of faith," that really "broadens" what worship is and really opens a worship door much more than an hour on Sunday.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Have you ever wondered who really lives next door to you? What do you really know about them? Do you know if they are happy? Struggling? Lonely? Sick? Do they go to church? Just who is your neighbor?

In its most basic sense, the word neighbor literally means "someone who is near to you, or close to you." However, the word in its broadest sense can encompass a friend, any Christian, or anyone who lives on this planet. In the parable, Jesus led the expert in the law to define neighbor as anyone who needs my mercy, anyone who needs my love.

That certainly enlarges our neighborhoods a bit doesn't it? Think about that for a moment. Who needs your mercy now? Who needs your love now? This morning, our focus is on Making a Difference!

When does our role as a Good Samaritan end? When the love of Christ touches every heart and every soul, when there are no more needs and no one lying by the roadside, when everyone has experienced the love of Christ, when all the needs of the world have been met, and all people, who once were in need, have become "good Samaritans" with us!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>How do you avoid the holes as you walk the Journey that leads to life everlasting? The same way you keep from falling in the holes on the road ahead. It is amazing to me that God made the human body the way He did. You have probably noticed He put our head on our bodies facing forward so that we can see where we are going not where we have been. Let's push that thought a bit. What would happen, when you are walking through your day, if you took steps forward but were always facing backwards? Besides getting a very stiff neck, you would have to walk very slowly or you might walk into things, or you might step where you really didn't want to step. Your path would be zigzag at best. I think you get the idea.

Imagine what would happen if we lived our lives that way. Instead of looking forward as we took our next steps, what if we looked backwards? What if we determined our next steps based solely on where we have been instead of where we need to be going? I just finished driving for 10 straight hours. When I drive, I look into my mirrors a lot to see who is behind me and beside me, but let me assure you that I still spend most of my time looking forward, looking ahead to see where I am going. I don't look "down" in front of the vehicle. I look way ahead so that I can see the direction I need to be heading. I look for holes in front of me to avoid and I look for traffic patterns that might be potentially dangerous to my forward progress. Our focus this week in worship is about "looking up" and looking ahead as we walk by Faith in the Son of God.</itunes:summary>

&lt;/div&gt;</description>
<itunes:summary>The Journey begins the same place for each of us!It starts in a warm womb in a dark place. You didn't ask to be there and you may wonder "at times," depending on how your life is going at the moment, why were you put here? Nine months after your journey began, you made your grand entrance into the world: your birthday.THE JOURNEY is your life! Annually, you mark the number of years you have been on The Journey (some of you have stopped counting). You might look back to see where you have been and how far you have come.Hopefully you are looking forward to see where your journey is going in the short and long term.

You may have noticed that along the way, on the journey you often encounter "detours", "roadblocks", "stops", "dead ends", "moments that take your breath away", "times of trouble", "Days of sorrow", and "moments of happiness."

When Paul wrote, "we walk by faith, not by sight"2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV), he was reminding us that Life (THE JOURNEY) is often a matter of "going" but not always knowing. That's where our faith in Christ comes in. We believe that the one who walk the path of service and suffering to save us has a plan for our lives that is "prosperous" (by his definition).

So let's raise a few questions:
How do we make every step of the journey worth taking? How do we stay on the God-designed path marked out for us? How do we make certain that The Journey ends at the right place?

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV) "1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. "

We keep our eyes on the One who marked out the path for us: Jesus!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Peace, peace, there is no peace, cries out a world desperate for its gift. Peace is just a word until the Prince of Peace comes. He alone can offer to us the genuine peace of sins forgiven, consciences cleansed, good will from God, and life triumphant over death. In comparison, the peace the world offers to us is a mere placebo. Today we hear the prophet Jeremiah, who promised the peace that was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Every prophecy of peace proclaims Christ alone, or it is an empty word that cannot deliver upon its promise. Only in Christ can God's people know true and genuine peace.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Today, we come face to face with the great mystery of God, that God is one and that this one God is three persons. The Holy Trinity is not so much truth to be understood as it is truth to be confessed. We confess the Triune God. We confess the Father from whom all things come, the Son who is the incarnate Lord Jesus Christ, and the Spirit who proceeds from the Father through the Son. This great festival begins a whole new chapter of the Church Year in which the focus shifts from the events in the life of our Lord Jesus to His teachings in which He reveals the Triune God and His kingdom. This year, we start with the story of the order created by God, destroyed by sin, and restored in Jesus Christ.</itunes:summary>

This week we'll be looking at the importance of the team as we do life together.

I don't want to belong to a church that doesn't care for my kids, or where I'm bored every Sunday.

Whether we are willing to admit it or not, we all have a list of characteristics and qualities that we look for in a fulfilling church. Some people might call that list a "consumer mentality". Others might simply say, it's "smart" to get connected to a church where most of your needs are met.

As we continue "Doing Life Together" let's turn the question around. Instead of asking, "what do I look for in a fulfilling church", let's ask, "what does Christ look for in me to make His church fulfilling? "

If Jesus had a set of requirements for us to join His church, would we measure up? Great question, but a scary one!

We'll ask and answer the question and most importantly realize that by grace alone we believe and by faith alone we are saved.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Brokenness. You don't have to look very far to see Brokenness. It is everywhere. Some of the brokenness of life we cause (intentionally and unintentionally). Some of the brokenness in our lives happens upon us by others. Some of the brokenness of life happens because we live in a world broken by sin.

Of all the things in life that get broken, the most repairable and most valuable are our relationships.

Do you remember when Peter took Jesus aside and asked him a question privately: "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Do you suppose Peter had just had a run in with one of the 11 other disciples?Do you remember Jesus answer? Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." Matthew 18:21-22 (NIV)

Why did Jesus essentially say to Peter, you need to forgive your brother every time he sins against you? Because Relationships are always worth restoring.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Two are better than one. You've probably learned that lesson many times in your life when you discovered you needed an extra hand. Like the time you were wall papering or the time you were wrapping a very large package and the "bow" needed an extra finger to hold it in place for the finishing touch. There a few things in life that are "impossible" without a second person, hand, finger, body, mind.

Solomon once wrote, "9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: 10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV) "

I recently discovered the truth of that when I went in for surgery to have my hip "resurfaced". When I awoke, I discovered a whole series of things I could no longer do for and by myself. For the first few days, I was nearly "helpless". If it hadn't been for my wonderful wife, I would not have made it.

This week as we look at Doing Life Together we'll ask the question: what's keeping you from living a shared life?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Your life doesn't have to be falling apart to sense the need for a change whether the change needed is great or small. And you don't have to wait for January 1 to roll around each year to make a fresh start. Anytime we sense that something is not right in our life, or that something needs to be improved, then, perhaps change and a fresh start is needed.

Now, there are all kinds of fresh starts needed. For some of us it might be a change in a career, others in might be a financial change, stills others might need a location change, could be something as simple as a project that needs to be started or restarted (or for some of us finished), a relationship that needs ending or repairing, a change in a lifestyle, a habit change, or maybe a fresh start in your relationship with God.

The fact is: "Life is filled with fresh starts." Think about it. January 1 gives us a new year. 12 times a year we start a new month. 52 times a year we start a new week, and 365 times a year we begin a new day. The bible reminds:

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) says, " 22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "

Life is filled fresh starts and new things. Praise God!

"You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you." " 8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid." Mark 16:1-8 (NIV)

<itunes:summary>Our 40-day journey with Jesus is rapidly coming to a climax. Up to this point Jesus has kept His identity as the Messiah a secret. But today, Palm Sunday, the drawn shades are opened, the cloak is removed. No more warnings from Jesus not to tell anyone about Him. Today Jesus will publicly disclose His true identity as the Messiah.

Unfortunately, even though Jesus knows everything that is going to happen, His disciples don't get it. They have in mind "the things of man," but not "the things of God." As the crowds shout "Hosanna! to the Son of David" which means "save now," they don't "get it" either. The question for us this morning is: Do we "get" the fact that Jesus came to Jerusalem to suffer in our place for our sins? Do we "get it" that Jesus has to die the death, if we are going to be forgiven? Do we "get it" that Jesus has to rise from the dead or His death was for nothing, and more importantly our lives would be meaningless?

Prayerfully, this morning as we come to worship we will get it. BUT there are people around you who don't "get it" yet. Right? People you know and care about. AND they may never "get it" unless YOU bring them the good news? So what are you waiting for? Help them "get it" by inviting them to join with YOU Easter Sunday. Pick up an invitation (or 2 or 3 or as many as you need) today as you leave, to hand, send, walk next door, drive to their house, and invite them personally. This just might be the year they "get it."

Let's pray they do.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Mark opens his gospel with these words:

1 "The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God." Mark 1:1 (NIV)
"Jesus" is the name given Him by the angel, which means Savior. "Christ" is not a name as much as it is a title. The Hebrew equivalent is Messiah and Messiah translated means "anointed one". And lastly, Mark calls Him by another "title" "THE SON of GOD."

There are, of course, many other names and tiles for Jesus: King of kings, Lord of Lords, the great I AM, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega, Jehovah, the Holy ONE, to mention just a few. But you might be interested to know that Jesus used none of them to define Himself.

Jesus used one "title," "THE Son of Man." Of the 83 times in the New Testament, 81 of them come directly from His lips. Jesus thought it important enough to use that title to describe Himself, so let's ask the question: What does Jesus want us to understand by this title "the Son of Man"?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Up to this point, in the life of Jesus He has been proclaiming the good news. In today's gospel reading and from this point forward, Jesus "sets his face" toward Jerusalem and begins heading toward the cross.

As we continue reading through the Gospel of Mark we'll hear Jesus tell His disciples at three different times and places:

Mark 8:31-35 (ESV) 31 "And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man." 34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it."

The turning point for Jesus began when He turned His face toward the cross. Our turning point begins when we turn our face toward Him!</itunes:summary>

&lt;/div&gt;</description>
<itunes:summary>"You didn't pray enough." "You didn't have "enough" faith." "You would be well by now if only you had . . ."

Have you ever had anyone tell you that you are where you are right now because you didn't pray, do, think or believe enough? Many a "well-intentioned" believer has said something like that to another believer to "explain" why God didn't answer prayer, or get them out of the predicament they're in.

I remember many years ago a somewhat new believer listened to a "Christian" radio program and then said, "I'm not going to claim my illness and that will take it away. Don't 'claim it.'" I never quite understood what she meant. Did she mean, "I'll stick my head in the sand and pretend I don't have it" Or If I claim, I declare "I'm healed" loud and long enough, I'll be healed!" Did she mean, "If only I claim the authority of Christ I can command it to leave." To this day, I still don't know or understand exactly what she meant.

Here is what faith is NOT: faith is not believing strong enough or long that something will or will not happen to us and so it does or doesn't happen. Faith is having full confidence in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Confidence in Him, in His mercy and love for us, in His plans for us, and in His timing for our lives PERIOD!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Fear. It is not something I was ever taught. My parents never sat me down and said, "Carl, today we want to teach you to be afraid." I never took a class on, "How to be afraid!" Now that I think about it, my mother once tried to teach me not to put anything in the electric outlet. (I didn't listen. I remember finding out the shocking truth she was trying to teach me.) Fear is an emotion or feeling that arises when we sense danger, evil, or pain before us or upon us.

Fear can be helpful, if it prevents us from putting ourselves or others unnecessarily in danger or peril. Fear is not always helpful, though, especially when it keeps us from attempting new things in life like jumping out of an airplane, scuba diving, or speaking in public. (Speaking in public is reportedly the most common fear.)

As we open God's Word (the Gospel of Mark) today, pay close attention to those who are afraid, of whom are they afraid, and why? Jesus reminds us that there is a time and a place for fear and for FAITH.

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28 (NIV)</itunes:summary>

What if this year, instead of giving something up, like chocolate for 40 days in a row,or meat on Fridays, we picked up something, like the Bible. And instead of giving up chocolate, we spent the next 40 days feeding on the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ.

Is it possible for us to know the Son of God better? What if we spend the next 40 days attempting to learn of Him and take the time each day to read the Bible and wrestle with its claims and praying for God's Spirit to lead and guide us?

For the next 40 days we will be looking closely at the life and ministry of Jesus the Son of God, as recorded for us in the Gospel of Mark: 40 Days with Jesus.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Have you ever heard someone say, "I prayed, but nothing happened. So I prayed again. I waited. Still nothing. I'm not certain prayer works."

Have you ever wondered what the conditions are when God answers your prayers?

If we were totally honest we may realize that we've all sent thousands of prayers up, but there very few answers come down. Why is that? What causes that? Is prayer a farce, a superstition, something we just con ourselves into and pretend that it works but it really doesn't? What is prayer?

There's a deeper question than that. Does God promise to answer everyone's prayers?
This morning we'll explore the "conditions" when God answers our prayers.

Jesus said, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."	Matthew 21:22 (NIV)</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Have you ever thought about asking God for something in prayer but then you didn't? Why didn't you? Were you afraid He'd say "NO!"?

Maybe you didn't ask because you thought you were undeserving because of your sins! Or you've asked before and nothing came of it, so you lost confidence in the One to Whom you asked. So you stopped believing that the Lord will answer YOUR prayers.

James the Lord's half-brother wrote:
"You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. " James 4:2 (NIV)

Here is what Jesus has to say on the matter:
Luke 11:9-10 (NIV) "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

What are you waiting for? ASK!
Jesus said, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

<itunes:summary>Jesus said to His 12 disciples, "This, then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven..."

Jesus never left the disciples with the impression that prayer was an "option" in the life of a believer. In fact, a seasoned pastor once said, "Prayer is the Christian's vital breath. As we need 'air' to live, so also we won't 'survive' life in this world without prayer."

I never thought about it before, but prayer is something we will only do in this life. When we leave this planet and arrive in heaven, our praying will end for there won't be any need to pray to the Father, for all our needs will be met, because we will forever be in the perfect presence of our God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When you think about it, revitalizing our prayer life is revitalizing our lives. Do you suppose that is why Jesus invites us to pray? Not because the Father is lonely, but we as His children need to talk to our Father for needs of our lives now?

If you've ever wondered about your prayer life, join us for week two as we continue our four week worship series focusing on prayer entitled: What if God's people pray?

<itunes:summary>Some prayer lives lack consistency. They're either a desert or an oasis. Long, arid, dry spells interrupted by brief plunges into the waters of communion.

We go days or weeks without consistent prayer, but then something happens; we hear a sermon, read a book, experience a tragedy. Something leads us to pray, so we dig in. We submerge ourselves in prayer and leave refreshed and renewed. But as the journey resumes, our prayers don't.

Others of us need sincerity. Our prayers are a bit hollow, memorized, and rigid. More liturgy than life. And though they are daily, they are dull. Still others lack, well, honesty.

We honestly wonder if prayer makes a difference. Why on earth would God in heaven want to talk to me? If God knows all, who am I to do anything? If you've ever wondered about your prayer life starting today, we're starting a four-week worship series focusing on prayer entitled: What if Gods people pray?

<itunes:summary>On the last night before His last day, Jesus prayed. Now it is not surprising to us that the One, who invites us to pray, prayed, but what is fascinating is what Jesus prayed on Thursday night in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Knowing the end is near, Jesus prays one final time for his followers. But notice what he did NOT pray for: He did not pray for their success, for their safety, or for their happiness. He prayed for their unity. Why? Unity matters to God.

Jesus prayed for the unity of His Church: "that they may be one as we are one: [23] I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." John 17:22-23 (NIV)</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Merry Christmas! Epiphany is sometimes called the Gentiles Christmas. Today we celebrate the light of Christ appearing to the Gentiles as we celebrate the fulfillment of God's Old Testament promises in the appearance of the Magi.

Their visit came six months to two years after the birth of Jesus, when Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were in a home. This is recognized on the Church calendar on January 6. Let's celebrate the light of our Lord piercing the darkness of this present age!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>As our children do not remain small for very long but grow up quickly, so our celebration of our Lord's nativity moves on quickly.

On this ninth out of twelve days of Christmas, Luke has us fast-forward twelve years and Jesus is already well versed in the Scriptures. The main issue is His growth and increase not only physically but especially in the wisdom of God.

As Solomon prayed for wisdom as God's greatest gift, today we are given a glimpse into God's wisdom. It is the greatest and highest wisdom that a person is not, and cannot be, saved by his own works or actions, but solely by faith in the gift of Jesus Christ. We become God's children, God's family by God's action of adopting us.

For all who may doubt this wisdom or their salvation, here the Bible teaches that God has chosen you in Christ. It is totally God's action and gift, not ours. Therefore our salvation is completely in God's hands.</itunes:summary>
