Making new friends using ASL

I love practicing my ASL (American Sign Language). I don’t have that many opportunities to use it. Today at the dog park I met 2 ladies that were deaf. It turns out that they go to the church that I am starting to go to now. I couldn’t understand what their names were because they were Hispanic but I was able to communicate somewhat well. I learned ASL in high school and learned even more at TN Temple University.

So many deaf people are out there that haven’t “heard” about Jesus. I am glad I can minister some small ways with my limited use of sign language. I need to brush up on it more. I want to be able to talk to my new friends. Their dog and my puppy played so well together. Maybe I could even have them over for a dog playdate.

TTC taking the romance out of sex??

I remember sometime last year when my Dh and I were really TTC and we were DTD every other day like clockwork. After sometime we lost some of the romance and it turned crazy. One time we ended up laughing hysterically and feeling like 2 virgin teenagers because of the awkwardness of doing it too much. So over time I have developed some ways that I spice up the deed.
First, let me give you some background on me. I was raised in a independent, fundamental baptist church. Most of my sex education came form there until I was much older so a lot of things seemed "dirty" to me. Now as I mature in my faith and my marriage, I am learning so much about sex and the function of sex as God intended. I don't do this stuff all the time, but to spice up regular sex, it is fun.

1. LET GO. I always tended to hold myself back sexually. Maybe because of my weight I felt unsexy. Maybe because I was scared of what sounds I would make or how I would look. Now I don't care. I am learning to enjoy sex. It is fun! I usually make sure I orgasm, though I rarely get it from straight intercourse, other foreplay is in the picture.

2. DANCE!! This is especially easy to do when you don't have kids. Turn your living room into a strip club! Get a workout video with striptease moves (it is a great workout too) and just have fun. Your husband will like it no matter how horrible you think your performance is. Be confident- as that is what drives men wild anyways. Pick out an outfit where you can take if off slowly, one button at a time. Tease him.

3. PLAY it Up! Be the French maid, wear fuzzy handcuffs, or whatever else. Just have fun!Serve dinner wearing lingerie, wake him up happy, use a different room.

First Time in a Long Time

Yesterday I went to church for first time since January. I visited a different church and went without my DH since he was occupied with other things. The church was nice and reminded me of the church that was associated with my college. Tennessee Temple University. The pastor was ok, not sure if he will challenge me enough though. I went to Sunday School as well. The class was nice and so were the people. Finding a church in my area is hard, especially during the summer. Florida has a large elder population and during the summer half the old people leave to go up north.

Today for the first time since May, I made it to the gym. I did 30 minutes of cardio and 3 strength training exercises. I did 3 sets of 20 on the leg press with 90 lbs., three sets of 12 on the hip adduction machine with 50 lbs., and three sets if 12 on the butterfly press with 30 lbs. When I was working with a trainer that is part of the routine she had me on. I need to get back in the swing of things and not finding the motivation.

Having my husband home all the time because of his injury is stressing me out. We shouldn’t be together all the time, I need a little personal time. Our money is low and stresses me out too. We are going to be late on our rent. I am sure none of this stress is helping the TTC situation any.

Chick Fil A --My 2 cents

A lot of controversy has been started by the owner of Chick Fil A. Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that the company was "guilty as charged" for backing "the biblical definition of a family."
Now according to the Bible a marriage is two heterosexual people joining together in holy matrimony. That is according to the Bible. The Bible that people still swear on on a court of law. The Bible also says not to judge. Dan Cathy's comment did not promote people judging or the company judging. He was saying he personally believes the Bible and as a company they try to promote that. He did not say he tries to bash someone who chooses differently. He did not say he thought gays were bad, evil, or not good people. People are so quick to quote the Bible and say God is love and God wants us not to judge. That is very true. BUT people forget that the Bible is filled more than with those two verses about His love and telling others not to judge. The Bible is filled with truth. According to the Bible, homosexuality is a sin. So is eating too much, swearing, drinking in excess, idolatry, dishonoring your parents, cheating, lying, and other various things. If Dan Cathy would of said, we are guilty of believing that lying is a sin nobody would of blinked an eye because most people agree with that statement.But because Dan Cathy commented on the definition of family, people are all in uproar.
JC Penney recently got Ellen Degeneres as a spokesperson for their company. Other than a small little group of nutso's, most conservative people did not stop shopping at JC Penney's. People buy clothes their not philosophies. Honestly, you don't know how a lot of company owners view marriage. For all you know a company you adore may be donating money to the KKK. Let Dan Cathy have his free speech and as long as his company doesn't break any laws---continue to eat their chicken if you like it.
My personal view- homosexuality is a sin, but my sins are no worse.

Last Day of TTC Blogging Challenge

After a month of infertility talk, we need a distraction. Give us a link to one of your favorite non-infertility-sites, or tell us about your favorite distraction activity/book/feel-good movie.

My favorite non-fertility sites are Facebook , Swagbucks, and Pinterest. Speaking of Facebook, follow my blog on Facebook too! I could spend hours on Pinterest pinning away. I actually make/do a lot of the pins I pin. I excited to show some of them on this blog in the future.

My favorite distraction/ obsession is my DH. I absolutely love spending time with him. We have such good times together. Everyday our relationship gets stronger and stronger. My second obsession is Disney. Anything Disney pleases me. I collect the large snowglobes, movies, art, blankets etc. My bathroom, kitchen, and living room are all Disney themed. My third obsession is art: painting, sewing, jewelry making, scrapbooking, cake decorating, and gifts you can make.

My favorite book is the Bible, though I haven’t been that faithful lately reading it. I will get better as I am joining a Bible study/ water Zumba class soon.

My favorite feel good movies are The Devil Wears Prada, Cinderella, Tangled, The Princess Diaries, and Beauty and the Beast.

This Challenge was fun! A big thank you to those that have started following my ramblings about trying to conceive with PCOS and hypothyroidism. I feel your support in more ways than I can express on here. I considered all of you friends and an accountability system.

Day 29:

Tell us about a friendship you lost or a relationship that changed for the worse because of infertility.

I have not lost a friendship due to infertility; I have distanced myself from some friends though.

I have done non-discreet things like hidden a friend from my Facebook feed or just not talk to a friend as much. I know I shouldn’t do it, but jealousy and depression sometimes takes over. I want a baby so bad. Seeing other people, especially people who I don’t think should have kids, really gets me upset. I know it is wrong because that is not what God wants us to do as friends. The Bible says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 A loving friend doesn’t block those who have good news, but should rejoice with them.

I know how it feels to be on the receiving end of such treatment. I had asked a certain friend to be my bridesmaid for my wedding. She said no because she was jealous of me for finding love. I was disappointed and hurt. I wanted her to be part of my special day. I am sure that is how women expecting are feeling. I am going to try to do better.

TTC Blog Challenge Day 28 & Cauliflower Pizza Crust Recipe

Have you ever done something “non-traditional” in order to help you conceive?

I don’t think I have. I stick my legs up in the air after DTD, but not all the time.

In other news, my van is ok! We have a vehicle again. Now we just have to have my husband go back to work. We haven’t heard from Workman’s compensation regarding going to an orthopedic doctor for his broken ankle.

For dinner tonight I had one of my favorite low carb meals----Pizza! It is made with a cauliflower crust.

You “rice” cauliflower by putting in the food processor and then microwaving that uncovered in the microwave for 6-8 minutes.

Then combine 1 cup of the riced cauliflower with 1 egg, 1 cup shredded cheddar, and seasonings of your choice. I use parsley and oregano. Sometimes I add fresh minced garlic, tonight I did not.

Spread evenly on a greased pan- I use my beloved cast iron skillet :)

You then bake the crust WITH NO TOPPINGS at 450 degrees for about 12-15 minutes.

Here is also a picture of my puppy begging cause it smells good in the kitchen.

Here is what the finished crust looks like.

Then add toppings of your choice. I usually only use meat toppings because I do not care for cooked veggies. Tonight I added turkey pepperoni, a little Italian sausage, and mozzarella cheese. It was delicious! I got this recipe off of Pinterest. I think I altered it a bit though.

Day 27:

If you had known that you would have trouble conceiving, what would you have done differently in life? If you already knew, did that knowledge affect your other life choices?

I had knowledge I was going to have trouble conceiving. When I was a teen, my primary doctor tried giving me birth control at age 16 and another type of drug at 18. I had thought that I wouldn’t need to worry about it because starting a family was something I was not looking to do at that time. I was never told I had PCOS or a thyroid problem.

I think the only thing I would do differently is to take a more proactive role in my healthcare. Birth control is not the best treatment for PCOS. It masks the symptoms rather than treat the causes. Only when my weight spiraled out of control did I care what was going on with me. I used my husband’s access to EbscoHost so I could access medical journals. I did my research and found the treatment plan I wanted.

Things are just not going right. If you have been following my blog you know that Tropical Storm Debby took our vehicle. We bought another vehicle, a 2001 Town & Country. It has broken down twice in the last 2 weeks. It may have an electrical gremlin. We are waiting on the mechanic to call us back and let us know what the deal is. If it is an electrical problem, we are selling the van and trying again. Ughhh!!! I want a reliable vehicle that is clean and newer than the year 2000. We are broke right now, so this is going to be fun :/ This a picture of my dream vehicle because I want it filled with kids.

I talked to my DH and told him about how I am feeling about our diet and he agreed to be supportive in a diet change. We had done it before and we will start again. Looking forward to my weight ticker moving in the right direction. : )

TTC Blogging Challenge Day 26

Day 26:

What do you use the “nursery” for right now? If you already had a baby, what did you use it for before pregnancy?

Right now my “nursery” is a storage room, not intentionally though. We just moved to our new apartment from a bigger house and haven’t gotten a storage unit yet. When we start the foster care process we will get a storage unit and start decorating the room.

Speaking of foster care, I guess we are starting that process sooner than I thought we would. As soon as my husband starts a new job I guess we are starting the process. My job right now is to research where we want to take the classes through. I know I do not want to take the classes through the state. I prefer to take them through a Christian organization because of the Christian support system. I know several churches that offer the classes, so I will probably start making calls in the next couple weeks? For those who do foster care, what type of questions should I ask during the information meetings? Being a former foster kid, I know part of the process, but not all of it.

Other than getting the room ready for kids, there are various other things I am looking to update or make more child safe in my home.

So please pray that my husband gets this new job he interviewed for last week. We should find out later this week or the beginning of next week. I am on pins and needles and kind of stress eating and not exercising. I have such a great PCOS treatment plan and because of stress it is getting put to the side.

TTC Blogging Challenge Day 25

Day 25:

Talk about a time when you made someone in your life understand more about infertility.

I think I try to share about infertility with most people I come in contact with. I try to get at least 4 points across.

1. “Just relax and it will happen”----That is a myth. If that were the case I would have been pregnant way before I started officially trying. I have fun in the bedroom. We do it often enough. I don’t even stress that much now about ttc. I don’t even take my basal temps. I let go and let God and it just hasn’t happened yet.

2. Just because I can’t conceive doesn’t mean God doesn’t want me to become a parent. Through fertility treatments, adoption, and foster care God has provided many means for us to become parents.

3. It is just not your time. Who is to say that? God determines when my time is. He determines whether I am at peace with certain fertility treatments and or/ adoption options.

4. I am against abortion and teenage mom reality shows. I would give anything for those babies that get tossed away or born to mothers who hardly have the maturity to raise their children. Granted some teen moms are great, I just think it should not to glamorized.

Most people just don’t understand. I think the person I have tried to get to understand about infertility the most is my MIL. My MIL though doesn’t even care if we have kids.

Wanting Success- Sabotaging Myself

I got home Wednesday night and have been pretty much going at full steam since then. Wednesday night I came home and had to clean up the hallway floor. We keep the puppy there when we are gone and my husband spent the night at his mom’s so there were a couple messes on the floor. Our neighbor came over quite a few times to take the dog out. I also gave the puppy a bath. He kind of smelled like pee. I got my husband set up in bed with pain pills for his broken ankle.

Thursday I did laundry all day, cooked my husband meals, and cleaned house. I pretty much did the same on Friday. Yesterday was the first time I could relax and process everything that is going on right now. Today I am experiencing the repercussions of the stressors hitting me all at once. Right now we kind of live paycheck to paycheck. My husband can’t work right now because of his broken ankle. We are going to be late on our rent. That is so stressing me out. My husband had a job interview last Tuesday but we won’t know for sure until later next week. It is a better job and one that will take our family where it needs to go.

Because life is stressing me out. I tend to kind of hit the pause button. I had such a plan of what life was going to look like after I got back from my vacation, going to the gym, eating right, and improving my mental health. Ughhh!!! Today I had 6 donuts for breakfast. Regret is here. Why do I let stress over rule me?!?! God has it under control. He has always taken care of me. This too will pass. I don't like to stress eat, and honestly the Metformin makes it an awful experience. It is not that I don't know what to do. It is just doing it. What makes you take the right steps when you are so stressed?

Day 24:

How has your financial situation affected your infertility journey? (Fitting question considering my life update.)

If I had a better financial situation I would be a foster mom. The only thing stopping us is finances. We want a second vehicle, a storage unit, and all the things to make a cute nursery. I would not pursue more medical treatments.

Does your religion (or lack of) help/hurt/affect your infertility journey? Have you found religion? Lost it? Does it affect what treatments you do?

I believe my faith helps my infertility journey on most days. I am sure a lot of Christians who have infertility have days where they blame God or get angry with Him. That is not a sin. I don’t always understand what God is doing but he does. Now that I look back on my life I realize why I went through some of the abuse I went through. This too shall pass. I pray daily that God will give me the strength to lose weight, the grace to go through this temporary trial, and the wisdom to know how far to go.

My faith does affect what treatments I go through. Even if I had the money I don’t think I would do IVF. I understand people who chose that route though. God blesses every family a different way. I believe because of my past I would make an awesome foster mom. I feel led by God to that rather than use medical treatments. I am not even sure I would take Clomid.

Were you the product of infertility? Was anyone you know the product of infertility? How do you know? Or do you just suspect based on circumstances like age differences between siblings, time between marriage and conception, etc.

I was not the product of infertility. My biological mother was very fertile. She had two kids before she was even 16. She had me when she was 32 though. My foster siblings Leighann and Tom were products of infertility. They weren’t conceived with any type of drug or treatment though.I think it would kind of be nice to be the product of infertility though. You know your parents really wanted you. My biological parents may have not wanted me. I was conceived before wedding date, I think it was a quick wedding to make it look legit. I am not sure.

I have bonded with my foster mom. She was unable to have kids for over 9 years after she got married. I really hate sharing with other people because their well-meaning advice usually is hurtful or stupid. I call my foster mom all the time and she prays with me and encourages me.

What tv show/movie/commercial/print ad has bothered you the most since you began trying to conceive? If possible, post it here. Tell us why it bothered you so much.

I would have to say the movie Courageous. I absolutely love the movie and so does my husband.

The movie is a Sherwood Film, they also produced Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Flywheel. It is really a movie for Dads. The story line is about 4-5 men and their journey to better parenthood. One of the men loses his child in the movie and he is prompted to look in the Bible to find out what God expects out of fathers. I guess the movie is hard for me because I know my husband wants that courageous father in the movie. He will take those precious moments to enjoy every moment with his kids. I see the movie and every time cry because I am the reason he is not a father yet.

I ran across this verse in my devotions one day and it blew me away. God has everything under control. I do what I need to do and God will do His part. God will make me a happy mother. Birth or adopted, I don’t know; but God says he will make me a happy mother of children.

Tell us about a pre-ttc pregnancy “scare.” With your current partner, or with an ex.

My husband and I waited until marriage to have sex. Even though we both had been with people prior (we all make mistakes) we wanted to preserve sex for marriage so we started off on the right foot. I don’t judge people who choose to not save themselves for marriage because we each must choose our own path. I just see the benefits of waiting- more than just spiritual benefits.

I believe a sexual relationship is reserved for marriage. It is the way God designed it. I believe society we have today would be so much better if people saved themselves for marriage. Sex is so much more than physical, the longer I am married the better my sexual relationship gets because I am getting more and more connected mentally and spiritually with my husband. God is involved in our sexual relationship, not in a wrong type of way.

A couple verses about purity or reasons to wait:

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body....You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:18, 20) I consider my body to belong to my husband. Proverbs 31 talks about a woman loving her husband all the days of her life. It doesn’t just say she loved him after she met him. Staying pure shows your spouse you love them even before you meet them.Before I met my husband I wrote love letters to my future husband and gave them to my husband shortly before the wedding.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2) Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean I have to.

But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away.... And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. (Jesus, Matthew 5:28-30)

Since I am not taking any fertility drugs, I don’t have a story so I will answer another random question.

15 Random Facts About Me

I absolutely love the shows House, Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, and Mike & Molly. Other than those shows I don’t watch much TV.
My cat and dog are named after mice on Cinderella- Jaq-Jaq and Gus-Gus.
Most of my teen years I spent in foster care.
I am a very picky eater; slowly I am growing out of that.
I am addicted to chips and salsa.
My favorite footwear is flip flops. I think it is the state shoe of Florida. LOL
I love watching the sunset at the beach, though I hate the beach during the day because a couple years back I got stung by a sting ray.
My favorite non-Disney movie is the Devil Wears Prada. I can watch that movie over and over.
Sometimes I think I talk too much, sometimes I don’t talk enough. I reveal stuff too quickly to strangers. I am trying to work on that.
I have an AA in psychology from Liberty University.
There are so many arts and crafts I want to try but my husband would kill me if I spent more than I already do on my hobbies.
I only wear makeup for special occasions. My husband likes me without it.
My favorite Disney Movie is Cinderella.
I taught at a Christian school for a long time, quit after a lot of ESE kids were accepted and I couldn’t handle the stress of that. I don’t think I ever want to go back to a classroom again.
Jesus Christ is my Savior! Without Jesus, my life that was filled with abuse and neglect would have taken me over.

I guess I am most looking forward to the small things like:

Tummy time with baby
Giving the baby a bath
Waking up in the middle of the night just to make sure baby is ok and just watching them sleep, thanking God the whole time for this little miracle
Reading books together
Dancing around the living room singing kiddie songs
Feeding time
Changing diapers, yes even poopy ones as this is a bonding time and diapers only last so long.
Seeing a first smile
Watching my husband hold the baby and falling in love with him/her
Sharing family traditions

I would say that there is not a whole lot I am not looking forward too. I want a baby so bad, I can’t see any bad in the occurrence of a baby.

I am excited about feeling the baby flutter early in the pregnancy, and kick later on.

I am not that excited about being sick and aching.

Since I don't know how my body will react to pregnancy, I don't feel like I can really answer this.

IT Hubby or Not??

When I met my husband he was in college for computers, I thought that was good because of the money earning potential. Boy, were my hopes dashed when one career choice after another was made. My husband works at Wendy's now. He actually works 2 jobs. He is supposed to be promoted to manager but it taking awhile, he used to be the GM of Popeye's Chicken. Well, the other day I saw an IT ad on Craigslist and sent an email for my hubby. He has an interview next Tuesday. He kind of wants the job and he tells me he is excited. I just see all the great possibilities with this job,. My hubby is a technology genius. He fix any computer and build them too. He took a lot of courses in college for it. He only got hung up on Java which he failed 3 times. Please pray with me that he gets this job and that he finds he enjoys it.

If a very observant stranger were to walk into your house, what clues could lead them to believe that you have struggled with infertility?

One of the first things you would see as you step inside my small duplex is my bookshelf. On this bookshelf you would see “Taking Charge of Your Fertility”. I bought this book to help me know about basal body temping, how to check cervical mucus, and other things. It is a pretty helpful book if you don’t know how to do those things. I have a copy of "What to Expect When Your Expecting" too. On my night stand you will find my "Basal Digital Thermometer" In the kitchen you will see a box with all my meds & vitamins: Metformin, Labetelol, Folic Acid, B-Complex, Iron, Royal Jelly, Zinc, and baby aspirin.

But I would have to say the most obvious thing you would find in my home to point to infertility is the vacant room. We have some stuff stored in it, not too much. I fool myself into thinking that if everything is open for a baby then my ovaries when get into the game too. I have leftover things from my daycare I had in there. I have a pack n play, some toys, and children’s books from when I was a teacher. Even though it is just the two of us, I made my husband get a minivan as our vehicle. He wanted a truck. The idea of a truck was like he was giving up on me ever having a baby. I know he wasn’t thinking that…but my baby desire thoughts sometime over rule my logical side. He loves to drive trucks and that is all that it was.

My vacation is going well. I am enjoying time with my husband’s cousins. I wish he was here with me though. I miss him terribly. His cousin is a chef so I have been getting some really healthy meals that are delicious.

Well, I have been on Metformin for about 3-4 weeks. No sign of Aunt Flo yet. I have lost weight. I had lost a bit before my trip to New York. Here in New York I haven't been able to weight myself, but I do believe I have lost some weight. I have been more active here. The cousin I am staying with is a chef and has her own garden, so I am eating divinely healthy food. The time away from home is becoming a vacation and relieving a lot of my stress. It is beautiful out here and so peaceful. I get to talk to my husband every night. I miss him though. I go home on the 18th and we have an awesome date planned that night.

Talk about how you chose your RE. ( Since I do not have an RE I am answering a random question I saw on another blog I read)

If you won the lottery what 10 things would you do with the winnings after bills were paid?

I would build a nice big house somewhere in New York between Dryden and Rochester or buy a house at Disney’s Golden Oaks.
I would make sure my hubby and I got a vehicle of our choosing.
Put money in the bank so could retire and travel when we wanted to.
I would internationally adopt.
I would buy a Disney yearly pass.
I would go on a Disney Cruise.
I would have a personal trainer work with me 5-6 days a week so I could exercise better.
I would eat only organic.
I would start a business. The possibilities are endless.
Let my husband build the best computers he could for us. He loves technology!
