Op 10 juni vierde ik mijn 33e verjaardag, en wat bheb ik een verassingen gekregen!

Tegen lunchtijd stond deze mooie gedekte tafel vol met brownies (door Selma gemaakt) op me te wachten! We aten ze als toetje met ijs!

At lunchtime this wonderful table full of brownies (made by Selma) was waiting for me! We had them as dessert with icecream!

No hora do almoço esta mesa cheia de brownies (feitos por Selma) estava me esperando. Sobremesa deliciosas com sorvete!

En toen ik dacht lekker te gaan genieten van een rustig avondje thuis….. daar kwam bijna de hele basis langs met een taart en een complete chocoladefondue!

And when I thought I was going to enjoy a quiet evening at home….. almost the whole Ywam base came by with cake and a complete choclate fondue!

Op 21 juni vierden we Efraims verjaardag op school!

Ik heb een simpele cake gekocht, lekker chocolade saus erover gemaakt en de autootjes van Efraim erop!

I bought a simple cake, made a choclate sauce and used Efraims toycars to decorate!

Comprei um bolo simples, fiz uma calda de choclate, e usei os carrinhos de Efraim para decorar!

Alles goedgekeurd! – Everything is approved! – Tudo aprovado!

De plaatjes op de lollies heb ik in photoshop gemaakt en uitgeprint en opgeplakt!

Deze hoorntjes zijn van papier en er zitten gomballen in, sticker erop, ingepakt in celofaan en dan een strikje eromheen!

These cones were made from paper, there’s candy inside, put a sticker one, wrapped in transparent paper and than a ribbon!

Estes cones foram feitos de papel, dentro tem jujubas, colei um adesivo, embrulhei em papel celofone e finalizei com uma fitinha!

Een moeilijke week

De laatste paar weken hebben jullie weinig van ons gehoord, deels komt dat doordat we een drukke en heftige tijd achter ons hebben liggen waar we graag wat over willen delen.

Zoals jullie misschien weten is het voor ons bijna onmogelijk om via de natuurlijke manier kinderen te krijgen. Maar ook al voordat we dat wisten, hadden we het er al over gehad dat we ook graag wilden adopteren. In 2006 kregen we op een bijzonder manier Efraim. We hebben zijn biologische moeder leren kennen en toen hij nog geen 3 dagen oud was mocht hij met ons mee naar huis en binnen 6 maanden was de hele adoptieprocedure rond. Binnenkort wordt hij alweer 5 jaar. Daarmee nam de afgelopen maanden ook onze wens toe voor een 2^e kindje. De hoop op een zwangerschap hadden we nooit opgegeven, maar hoe langer dat duurde, hoe moelijker het soms ook is om daar nog in te blijven geloven en hoop voor te hebben. (Nu alweer 7 jaar!)Gelukkig zijn er verschillende voorbeelden uit de bijbel (bv Sara, Rachel, Rebekka en Elisabeth) die ook geen kinderen konden krijgen, en ook zij hadden vaak hun hoop en geloof daarin opgegeven, en desondanks kregen ze een heel bijzonder kind!

Begin dit jaar zijn we wat concreter gaan nadenken over een volgende adoptie, we wilden ons op de wachtlijst zetten, want de kans dat een volgend kindje net zoals Efraim bijna letterlijk uit de hemel in ons gezin zou komen vallen is natuurlijk klein. Maar een aantal weken geleden werden we door vrienden benaderd of we geen tweeling zouden willen adopteren, wow, daar moet je wel even over nadenken, uiteindelijk hebben we ja gezegd. Maar toen bleek dat er ook al een andere familie geinteresseerd was, dus dat ging aan ons voorbij. Wel kende de persoon een ander contactpersoon die weer iemand anders kende die zwanger was en een gezin zocht. Uiteindelijk bleek dat de zwangerschap nog maar in een vroeg stadium was, en dat het beter zou zijn om nog wat af te wachten. Dat was best wel moeilijk omdat je toch snel verwachtingen schept.

Toen werden we opeens afgelopen woensdag door deze contactpersoon gebeld. De dag ervoor was er een baby geboren en de moeder wilde het kindje afstaan omdat ze thuis door haar man mishandeld was. Gelijk hebben gebeden om Gods leiding, en dat Hij waar nodig deuren zou openen en sluiten. Toen hoorden we weer een paar dagen niks. Uiteindelijk hoorden we vrijdag dat de baby maandag uit het ziekenhuis ontslagen zou worden en dus bij ons zou kunnen komen. De contactpersoon had inmiddels de baby en moeder bezocht in het ziekenhuis en we kregen al een hele reeks foto’s! Zaterdagavond ontmoetten we de contactpersoon om meer info te krijgen over de moeder, de situatie e.d. Toen waren er wat dingen onduidelijk over de legitimatie van de moeder, maar ook over of het hele proces wel helemaal legaal verlopen was. Dat alles maakte dat we een soort van rollercoaster van gevoelens hadden, je wilt het zo graag, maar aan de andere kant twijfels en onrust, dat zowel bij mij als bij Jander en dat gaf dan ook best wel wat spanning tussen ons beiden. Uiteindelijk wisten we zondagavond pas laat na heel wat onderzoek helemaal zeker dat alles ok was en helemaal legaal. Wat waren we blij! De volgende dag zouden we alleen hoeven wachten op het telefoontje dat de baby uit het ziekenhuis ontslagen zou worden, zodat we het proces in konden gaan. Dat weekend waren we dan ook druk bezig met kleertjes, lakens en luiers wassen, het bedje schuren en lakken, de wandelwagen uit het stof halen, noem maar op, overal in huis kon je wel babyspullen vinden die we nog van Efraim hadden. Die dagen hebben we ook van al de emoties maar weinig geslapen, maar, zo hielden we ons voor, zo waren we alvast voorbereid op de gebroken nachten met een baby! Maandagmiddag ging uiteindelijk de telefoon van de contactpersoon, met helaas geen goed nieuws..... de moeder van de baby was samen met de baby en de vader uit het ziekenhuis vertrokken zonder een teken van leven achter te laten.

Wat een teleurstelling, we hadden ons er al helemaal op ingesteld, ons er praktisch en emotioneel op voorbereid en nu dit! Nog steeds begrijpen we het niet helemaal. Maar we willen erop vertouwen dat God het beste met ons voor heeft en dat Hij daarvoor de juiste tijd weet. Maar makkelijk is het niet, het voelt alsof we iemand verloren hebben (en dat hebben we ook). Elke keer weer was ik verbaasd dat het nog maar maandag was, want door alle dingen en emoties voelde het alsof we al een volle werkweek achter de rug hadden. We willen jullie vragen om hierin voor ons te bidden. We zijn erg blij en dankbaar met de vrienden die ons in de afgelopen dagen hebben bijgestaan, Mirjam die net dit weekend bij ons op bezoek was vanuit Natal (God’s perfecte timing!), Peter en Selma, Sandra en Sebastião, Dayanne&Fabiano, Josi &Keri. Het is goed om te merken dat we zowel de goede als moeilijke momenten met elkaar kunnen delen, om nog maar niet te spreken van al de mensen die deze dagen biddend achter ons hebben gestaan!

A dificult week

The last few weeks you have not heard a lot from us, in part because we had a busy and heavy few weeks and we’d like to share a little bit about that.

As you may know, for us it will be almost impossible to have children the natural way. But even before we knew about that we had talked about our wish to adopt one day. In 2006 we received Efraim in a very special way. We got to know the biological mom and before he was 3 days old he came home with us, and the whole adoption procedure was done within 6 months. He will be 5 years old soon! Because of that the last few months we were thinking more about a second child. Until than we never had given up the hope for a pregnancy, but the longer it took, the harder it is sometimes to keep believing and hoping. (It’s been over 7 years!). Luckily there are several examples in the bible (Sarah, Rachel, Rebekkah en Elisabeth) who also couldn’t get children, and they also had given up hope and did not always believe that they would, and inspite of that they had a very special child!

In the beginning of this year we started to think more concrete about a next adoption. We wanted to put our name on the national adoption list, because the chance that a baby would almost literally fall from heaven into our family -like Efraim did-is not that big. But a few weeks ago friends asked us if we would consider adopting twins, wow, we had to think about that a little, but in the end we said yes. But then we found out there was also already another family interested, so it didn’t happen for us. But this person knew somebody else that was pregnant and looking for an adoptive family. In the end we found out the pregnancy was only in an early stage and it would be better to wait a little. That was hard because it’s easy to create certain expectations.

Then suddenly last week on Wednesday we were called by this contact person that the day before a baby was born and the mother wanted to give it for adoption because she was maltreated by her husband. We prayed right away for God’s guidance, and that He would open and close doors where necessary. Than we didn’t hear anything. Finally Friday we found out the baby would be released from the hospital on Monday and that same day he could come to us. The contact person had visited the mom and baby in the hospital and we received many pictures! Saturday night we met with the contact person to get more info about the mother, the situation etc. A few things were not clear about the mother’s id, but also about whether the whole process was totally legal. This caused us to be in a rollercoaster of emotions, we wanted this so bad, but at the same time doubts and anxiety, both in me as in Jander and this even caused some tension between us at times. Finally Sunday night late after lots of investigation we knew for sure that the whole process was ok and legal. We were so happy! The next day we would only have to wait for a phone call that the baby was released from the hospital so we could start the process. The whole weekend we had been busy washing clothes, sheets, diapers, sanding and painting the crib, get the stroller out of the dust, you name it, there were baby things we still had from Efraim all over the house. These days we did not get much sleep because of all the emotions, but as we said, this way we were already be prepared for the broken nights with a newborn baby! Finally on Monday afternoon we received a phone call from our contact person, but unfortunately not with good news….. the mother had left the hospital with the baby and her husband and did not say anything to anyone.

We were so disappointed, we had been looking forward to this, had prepared ourselves practically and emotionally and now this happened! Still we have many questions. But we want to trust that God wants the best for us and He knows the right time. But it is not easy, it feels like we lost someone (and we did). Every time I felt shocked by the fact it was still only Monday, because through all things that happened and all the emotions it felt like we had already had worked a full busy week. We would like to ask you to pray for us. We are very happy and grateful for the friends that have been with us these last few days, especially Mirjam from Natal was spending the weekend here (God’s perfect timing) Peter en Selma, Sandra en Sebastião, Dayanne&Fabiano, Josi & Keri. It’s been comforting to find out we have friends to share the good and the hard times, also the many people that stood around us in prayer!

As ultimas semanas vocês ouviram pouco da gente, parcialmente porque passamos por um tempo cheio e conturbado e gostaríamos de compartilhar um pouco sobre isto.

Como vocês talvez saibam para nós está quase impossível de engravidar de maneira natural. Mas já antes que a gente descobriu falamos que a gente gostaria de adotar também. Em 2006 recebemos de maneira muito especial o Efraim. Passamos a conhecer a mãe biológica dele e quando ele tinha menos que 3 dias a gente pode levar ele para nossa casa e dentro de 6 meses todo o processo legal foi finalizado. Em breve ele já vai fazer 5 anos. Com isto o nosso desejo para um segundo filho aumentou nos últimos meses. Sempre tivemos ainda a esperança por uma gravidez, mas quanto mais tempo passa, mais difícil fica às vezes de continuar crer nisto. Felizmente tem vários exemplos na bíblia (p.e. Sara, Raquel, Rebeca e Elisabeth) também não podiam mais ter filhos, elas muitas vezes perderam a fé e sem esperanças mas mesmo assim receberam um filho muito especial!

No inicio do ano começamos pensar mais concretamente sobre uma outra adoção, a gente queria colocar nosso nome no cadastro nacional. Porque a chance que uma outra criança ia cair quase literalmente do céu em nossa família, assim como Efraim, era muito remota. Mas algumas semanas atrás amigos perguntaram se a gente não queria considerar a possibilidade adotar gêmeos. Uau! Nós tivemos que pensar um pouco, mas finalmente decidimos dizer sim. Mas aí descobrimos que outra família já estava conhecendo os pais biológicos dos gêmeos para adotar. Mas a pessoa conhecia outra pessoa que estava grávida e procuravam uma família. Depois um tempo falou que ainda era muito cedo e teríamos de esperar mais um pouco. Isto foi bastante difícil, porque criamos expectativas muito fáceis.

Mas esta pessoa de contato nós ligou semana passada na 4a feira, um dia antes um bebe nasceu e a mãe queria colocar a criança para adoção porque ela era maltratada pelo marido. Oramos logo para que Deus guiar-nos, e fechar e abrir portas onde necessário. Mas alguns dias ouvimos nada, finalmente na 6ª feira ouvimos que o bebe ia ter alta na 2ª feira e podia vir conosco. A pessoa de contato já tinha visitada a mãe e o bebe e recebemos várias fotos! Sábado à noite encontramos com a pessoa de contato para receber mais informações sobre a mãe e toda a situação. Algumas dúvidas surgiram sobre a carteira de identidade da mãe e também sobre a legalidade de todo o processo. Isto tudo fez nos sentir em uma montanha russa de emoções. Nós queríamos tanto, mas ao mesmo tempo vieram dúvidas, inquietações, tanto em mim quanto em Jander e isto até causou tensão entre nós as vezes. Mas finalmente na tardezinha de domingo depois de muita oração, investigação e ter certeza que tudo estava okay e legal. A gente ficou tão feliz! No próximo dia a nós só precisávamos esperar ó telefonema que iria dar alta do hospital para que nós começar mos o processo. O final de semana toda a nós estávamos ocupados lavando roupinhas, fraldas, lençóis, lixar e pintar o berço, tirar o carrinho da poeira, tudo isto, na casa toda tinha coisinhas de bebe espalhada que a gente ainda tinha do Efraim. Por causa de todas as emoções nós dormimos muito pouco, mas nós falávamos. Assim nós já estamos preparados para as noites mal dormidas com um recém-nascido! Segunda à tarde finalmente a pessoa de contato nos ligou, mas infelizmente não com boas noticias..... A mãe do bebe junto com bebe saiu com marido dela e não deixou nenhum sinal de vida. Que decepção, nós tínhamos tanta expectativa! Estávamos preparados na pratica e emocionalmente e agora isto!

Ainda não entendemos tudo. Mas queremos confiar que Deus tem o melhor para nós e que Ele sabe o melhor tempo. Mas não é fácil, sentimos como perdemos alguém (e perdemos mesmo). Cada vez ficava quase chocada em descobrir que só era segunda feira ainda, porque com tudo que passamos e todas as emoções sentia como já tinha passada uma semana inteira cheio de trabalho. Queremos pedir vocês para orem por nós. Somos felizes a gratos com os amigos que ajudaram muito nos últimos dias. Mirjam de Natal estava passando este final de semana aqui em casa (tempo perfeito escolhido por Deus!), também Peter e Selma, Sandra e Sebastião, Dayanne&Fabiano, Josi & Keri. Foi muito bom perceber que podemos compartilhar tanto os momentos bons como os momentos difíceis. Não se esquecendo de mencionar todas as pessoas que nós cercaram com oração este tempo! Se esquecemos de alguém nos desculpa nos !….

Today we’re celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary!!!

Hoje estamos celebrando 8 anos de casados!!!

Na verdade esta foto foi dia 2 de maio, o casamento civil

We got married in the middel of the mountains, just outside Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Eu entrei com meu pai, e Jander entrou com minha mãe, porque a mãe dela não veio.

Nós casamos no meio das montanhas, perto de Belo Horizonte. I walked in with my dad and Jander walked in with my dad, because his mom did not come.

A menina que trouxe as alianças era uma meninas da casa de restauração para meninas, Jander trabalhou com ela durante a triagem e ela queria muito ser a dama de honra!

The girl who brings the rings was one of the girl of the girls restoration house, Jander worked with her when she was in her trial phase and wanted really badly to be our bridesmade!

A santa Ceia foi trago por uma menina e menina de Casa Refúgio, casa abrigo de JOCUM para crianças com HIV onde nos conhecemos e trabalhamos, enquanto Jander cantava uma musica para mim! Infelizmente o Amilton faleceu ano passado, também meu imrão que estava no dia, não está mais aqui, lembranças boas com saudades….

The Comunion was brought by a boy and a girl from the Refuge House from YWAM, a home for children with HIV where we met and worked, while Jander sang a song for me! Unfortunately Amilton passed away last year, also my brother who was at our wedding is not here anymore, good memories while missing them….

Você acha que acabou? Não casei de novo!!!! No mesmo ano com mesmo homem, 3 meses depois, só que agora o casamento foi no meu país, na Holanda depois de ter passado 2 anos no Brasil!

Do you think that was it? No, I got married again!!!! The same year, with the same guy, 3 months later, only this time the wedding was in my country, in Holland, after having spent 2 whole years in Brazil!

Você pode ver a diferença? Desta vez a gente já estava mais relaxada, e realmente curtindo o momento! Usei o mesmo vestido, mas acessorios, buquet, cabelo e maquiagem diferente, no outro dia tive que mandar de volta o vestido em uma caixa de correio para brasil porque era alugada!

Can you see the deiference? This time we were more relaxed, and really enjoying the moment! I used the same dress, but diferent acessories, another bouquet, diferent hair and makeup. The next day I had to send the dress back to Brazil because it was a rental!

I love these pictures, trying to make Jander eat the traditional ‘haring’ a salted (raw) fish, that you eat like that, holding it’s tail! He didn’t like it so much…

A noite tivemos um culto de ação e graça onde louvamos Deus por o que Ele tem feito em nossas vidas e fomos unidos pelo pastor. Depois festajamos com amigos e família, a maioria ainda nem conhecia Jander!

At night we had a thanksgiving service at church where we praised God for what He has done in our lives and we were anointed by the pastor. Than we celebrated with friends and family, most of which did not even know Jander yet!

Estamos muito gratos com o que Deus tem feito em nossas vidas depois de nosso casamento!

We begonnen paasochtend met een heerlijk uitgebreid ontbijt en natuurlijk mogen échte paaseitjes niet ontbreken!

We started Easter morning with a delicious big breakfast and of course real Easter eggs made part of it!

Wauw, ik heb dit jaar nog maar 1x een bericht op onze blog geplaatst en we gaan alweer bijna naar Mei toe, hoog tijd weer voor een update dus. Laten we eerst maar eens beginnen met onze trip naar Nederland alweer 2 maanden geleden!!!! En aangezien beelden meer spreken dan woorden doen we dat maar aan de hand van de foto’s!!!!

Natuurlijk mag het traditionele bezoek met Marga aan de Elburgse markt met thee en een moorkop na niet ontbreken (arme Obi die met een longontsteking gedwongen mee moest, je moet wat over hebben voor je vrienden uit Brazilie…..)

Ofcourse there was the traditional visit to the local market in Elburg with tea and pie (poor Obi who was forced to come even with a pneumonia, the sacrifices of a mom for her friend from Brazil….)

Claro que não pode faltar a visita tradicional ao feira local em Elburg finalizando com chá e torta (coitado de Obi que foi forçado a ir mesmo com pneumonia, os sacrificios de uma mãe para uma amiga do Brasil….)

We zijn erg gezegend, we hebben de kerstdagen bij Janders moeder door kunnen brengen!

We were very blessed, and were able to spend Christmas with Janders mom!

A gente foi muito abençoada e conseguimos passar natal com a mãe de Jander!

22 december vertrokken we midden in de nacht richting Belo Horizonte waar we een dag verbleven in JMEO en de volgende dag vertrokken we voor de busreis naar Janders moeder, als snel heeft Efraim daar vriendjes gemaakt!

the 22d of december we left in the middle of the night for Belo Horizonte, where we spent the night at YWAM and the next day we went to Janders mom by bus, Efraim made new friend quickly!

Dia 22 de Dezembro viajamos para BH de madrugada, ficamos um dia em JOCUM lá, e no outro dia viajamos de onibus para Bela Vista de Minas, onde a mãe de Jander mora, rapidinho Efraim fez novos amigos!

Na een aantal dagen zijn we weer naar Belo terug gegaan om daar nog een paar dagen door te brengen! Ook daar had Efraim gelijk een vriendje, Leevi, heet zoontje van onze vrienden Miia & Milton die op de basis in Belo werken!

After a few days we went back to Belo Horizonte to spend a few days there! Here also Efraim made friends quickly, Leevi is the son of Miia and Milton who work here on the ywambase in Belo!

Depois de alguns dias voltamos para Belo Horizonte para gastar uns dias lá também. Aqui Efraim também fez amigos rapidinho, Leevi é o Filho de Miia e Milton que trabalham na base de JOCUM BH!

Afgelopen zaterdag vierden we het huwelijks van Michiel (uit nederland) en Ismilinda (Braziliaanse)

Last Saturday we celebrates the wedding of Michiel (from Holland) and Ismilinda (Brazilian)

Sábado passado celebramos o casamento de Michiel (de holanda) e Ismilinda (Brasileira)

Michiel is één van de stafwerkers bij ons op de boerderij en dat is ook waar de trouwerij plaatsvond, op het voetbalveld om precies te zijn!

Michiel is one of the staff of the farm, and that’s also where the wedding was held, on the soccerfield to be exactly.

Michiel é obreiro do sitio e foi lá que foi feito o casamento, no campo de futebol para ser exato!

Het was hard werken om alles klaar te krijgen.

It was hard working to get everything ready

Foi um trabalhalho duro para aprontar tudo

Maar het was allemaal prachtig!

But it was all wonderful!

Mas estava tudo lindo!

Ik moest de hele ceremonie vertalen voor de familie en vrienden van michiel die speciaal voor de bruiloft waren overgekomen.

I had to traslate the whole wedding for the family and friends of Michiel who came for the wedding.

Eu tive que traduzir a cerimonia do casamento para a família e amigos de Michiel que vieream especialmente para o casamento.

Naast de pastor die de ceremonie leidde, kreeg het stel nog een proefetisch woord en gebed van Selma.

Besides the pastor who led the service, the couple receive a prophetic word and prayer from Selma.

Além do pastor que fez a cerimônia, o casal ainda recebeu uma palavra profetica e oração de Selma.

Zelfs Efraim kreeg de smaak te pakken hihihi

We waren erg blij en enthousiast dat we de viering van het 50 jaar bestaan van Jeugd met een Opdracht mee mochten maken. We zijn er met de hele basis met de bus naar toe gegaan (12 uur!!!)

We were very happy and exited to be able to join the celebrations of 50 years of YWAM in Recife. We went with the base by bus (12 hours!!!!)

No inicio de Junho comemorei meu aniversário! Com algumas amigas e colegas tivemos um chá especial e foi muito divertido!!!

Jander

Jander foi para um impacto com todas as bases de Jovens Com Uma Missão do Nordeste para as festas juninas em Campina Grande. Eles tiveram um tempo muito especial!

Efraim

Efraim também comemorou o aniversário dele em Junho. Nós fizemos uma festa na escola dele para as colegas de sala. Ele gostou muito e recebeu muitos presentes. Quando meus pais estão aqui vamos fazer outra festa para ele!

Projeto:

O projeto está indo bem. Como escrevi na ultima vez, estamos temporariamente liderando o ministério. Falta poucas semanas para Peter e Selma voltar. Tem sido uma experiência maravilhoso, nós aprendemos muito! No mês passado a equipe fez uma supresa para nós, ele arranjaram um motorista, pessoas para ficar com Efraim e dinheiro para que Jander e eu podiamos ir para um restaurante e comemorar 7 anos de casado (foi dia 3 de maio)

Vida Nova

No inicio de Julho vou começar com palestras para adolescentes grávidas no posto de saúde. Quando isto dar certo, posso expandir para outros postos. Trabalhando com o departamento de saúde local é muito importante. Espero que isto nós ajuda para que as pessoas passam a conhecer mais o trabalho de Vida Nova e assim podemos crescer!

Copa do Mundo

Brasil para literalmente para assistir os jogos da copa, lojas, bancos, empresas, correios e até mesmo escolas fecham para que ninguém precisa perder nenhum segundo dos jogos. No ministério temos um grande numero de holandes então não somente tem as decorações em verde-amarelo, mas o nosso refeitório está cheio com bandeirinhas laranja. Efraim também curte muito esta alegria!!!! Ah, sei que os brasileiros não ficaram felizes que os holandeses botaram eles para fora da Copa….. mas nós vamos para o final!!!!!

Visitantes

Temos muitos hospedes estes dias. Temos uma voluntária da holanda que ficou aqui em casa alguns dias. Marina de nosso grupo de apoio e pessoa de contato para nossa igreja está aqui no momento por 2 semanas, dia 8 de julho, Mirjam e Fabio vem aqui com Oliver e 10 de Julho meus pais chegam para passar um mês aqui. Então temos umas semana cheias mais divertidas a nossa frente!

In the beginning of June I celebrated my birthday!!! With a few friends and colleagues we had a high-tea and it was so much fun!!!!

Jander

Jander went on outreach the end of June with all the bases of Youth With a Mission of the Northeast of Brazil, to the ‘festas juninas’ in Campina Grande. They had a very special time!

Efraim

Efraim also celebrated his birthday inJune. We celebrated it at his school with his classmates. He enjoyed it so much and got spoilt with many presents. When my parents get here we’'ll throw another party for him!

Project:

The project is going well. As I wrote in our last post we now are temporarily in charge of the ministry. Just a few more weeks to go till Peter and Selma get back. It’s been a great experience, we’ve learned a lot! LAst month we were suprised by the team with a dinner, they arranged for a driver, babysitters and we got to go on a date, just the 2 of us to celebrate our 7th weddinganniversary (which was may 3d)

Vida Nova

In the beginning of July I’ll start giving workshops for pregnant teenagers in the local healthposts. When this goes well I will be able to expand to other healthposts. Working together with the local health system is so important, I hope this will help for people to get to know the work of Vida Nova in this area so that we can grow!

Worldcup

Brazil litteraly stops when they are playing in the Worldcup, shops, banks, businesses, postoffices and even schools close so that nobody has to miss a second of the game. At the project we have a big number of Dutch volunteers and staff at the moment so besides the yellow and green decorations, the whole diningroom is decorated with orange banners!!!! Also Efraim parrticipates in this joy!!!! Oh ad the brazilians we’re so not happy that Holland made them leave the worldcup…..let’s get to the finals!!!

Visitors

We are having lots of visitors these days. We have a dutch volunteer and she stayed in our house for a few days. Marina from our support group in holland and contactperson for our chucrh is her at this moment for 2 weeks, July 8th Mirjam and her husband and baby will be here for a week. And July 10th my parents will be here for a month, so we have a few busy but fun weeks ahead of us!

Begin juni heb ik mijn verjaardag gevierd!!!! Met een aantal vriendinnen en collega’s heb ik een high tea gehouden en het was erg gezellig!!!!

Jander

Jander is eind juni op outreach geweest met al de basissen van jeugd met een opdracht uit het noordoosten, naar de ‘festas junina’ in Campina Grande. Het was een hele bijzondere tijd!

Efraim

Ook Efraim heeft in Juni zijn verjaardag gevierd. We hebben dit gevierd op zijn school met zijn klasgenootjes. Hij heeft er erg van genoten en werd erg verwend met mooie kadootjes. Straks als mijn ouders hier ook zijn zullen we het nog eens dunnetjes over doen!

Project:

Op het project gaat alles prima, zoals ik schreef in de vorige blog hebben we nu tijdelijk de leiding over het project. We hebben er nu 3 maanden op zitten en nog een paar weekjes te gaan totdat Peter en Selma terug komen. Het is een hele goede ervaring geweest, we hebben ontzettend veel geleerd! We werden afgelopen deze maand door het team verrasd met een etentje, er was een chauffeur geregeld, oppas, en wij mochten met z’n 2-en heerlijk uit eten om ons 7-jarig huwelijk te vieren!

Vida Nova

Begin Juli zal ik starten met het geven van workshops voor zwangere tieners in de lokale gezondheidspost. Als dit goed loopt mag ik het uitbreiden naar de andere gezondheidsposten. De samenwerking met de lokale gezondheidzorg is erg belangrijk, ik hoop dat het projekt zo wat meer bekendheid zal krijgen in deze omgeving en zo verder uit zal mogen groeien!

Worldcup

Brazilie staat letterlijk stil tijdens de wedstrijden die Brazilie moet spelen, winkels, banken, bedrijven, het postkantoor en zelfs scholen gaan dicht, zodat niemand ook maar 1 minuut van de wedstrijd hoeft te winnen. Op het projekt is ook Nederland goed vertegenwoordigt en hangen er naast de groen en gele vlaggen ook heel veel oranje vlaggetjes!!!! Ook Efraim doet mee aan de oranjevreugde natuurlijk! En oh wat waren de brazilianen niet blij dat ze door de nederlanders eruit zijn gevoetbald……op naar de finale!

Visite

We krijgen veel bezoek de komende weken. Er is een nederlandse vrijwilligster die hier een paar dagen bij ons in huis is geweest, Marina van onze Thuisfrontcommissie is hier voor 2 weken, 8 juli komen Mirjam en Fabio en Oliver hier voor een weekje en 10 juli komen mijn ouders hier voor een maand, dat wordt dus een drukke maar gezellige tijd!

O tempo passa mesmo voando, na Europa já começou a primavera, aqui no Nordeste aos poucos começa o tempo de chuva. Como vocês podem ver o nosso blog ganhou um novo visual, espero que vocês gostam, ainda não está totalmente pronto, mas espero que assim fica mais facil e divertido para ler as nossas mensagens!

Aniversário de Jander

O aniversário de Jander celebramos de acordo com a tradição com um churrasco, a nossa casa ficou cheio, foi muito divertido!

Efraim

Efraim está gostando muito da escola, o português dele está melhorando muito e ele adora cantar as músicas que ele aprende na escola.

Quando você olha para esta foto não pensa que pegamos alguma doença esquisita, é apenas uma criatividade de senhor Efraim, no corpo todinho…..

Para quem ainda não viu o Efraim dançar e cantar, assiste este filme da festa de Pascoa da escola, mostra muito claro como ele está gostando!

Vida Nova

No meio de fevereiro nasceu o filho de A***, ela tem 15 anos e os dois irmãos dela moram conosco no sítio. Ela mora em um dos maiores e mais perigosos favelas de Fortaleza. A situação dela é bastante complicada, estamos tentando ajudar ela, mas as vezes é muito dificil. Ela quase imediatamente parou de dar de mamar por cause de dor, e as vezes a mãe dela, que também tem um bebe pequeno as vezes faz isto por ela. Em menos de 2 meses o bebe já teve 4 nomes diferente, e logo começou a dar mingau de arroz em madeiras não esterilizados, que provavelmente já foram usadas muitas vezes pelos outros irmãos e irmãs, e tem muito mais ainda…… ela precisa de oração!

Novo Desafio!

Nós também estamos precisando de suas orações, Peter e Selma, nosso líderes estão em Inglaterra por 4 meses e pediram a nós para estar liderando o sítio durante este tempo. Uma grande responsabilidade de estra liderando a equipe e as atividade no caminho certo!

Em breve vamos escrever uma nova carta informativa, temos tantas coisas que as vezes falta o tempo para estas coisas……

Wat vliegt de tijd toch weer, in Nederland is de lente weer begonnen en hier in het Noordoosten van Brazilie begint de regentijd zo’n beetje weer. Zoals jullie zien heeft de blog weer een nieuw gezicht gekregen, het is nog niet helemaal klaar, maar ik hoop dat de blog zo wat overzichtelijker wordt en dat jullie hier met plezier onze berichtjes kunnen lezen!

Jander’s verjaardag

Jander’s verjaardag vierden we traditiegetrouw met een barbecue, we hadden weer een heel huis vol! Het was erg gezellig!

Efraim

Efraim heeft het nog steeds erg naar zijn zin op school. Zijn portugees gaat met sprongen vooruit en hij zingt graag de liedjes die hij op school leert.

Als je naar deze foto kijkt denk dan niet dat we een of andere enge ziekte hier hebben opgelopen, dit is gewoon één van de vele creatieve uitspattingen van meneer Efraim, van top tot teen…..

Voor wie Efraim nog niet heeft zien zingen en dansen, kijk dan maar eens naar dit filmpje van het paasfeest van school, het is overduidelijk hoeveel plezier hij heeft!

Vida Nova

Half februari werd het zoontje van A*** geboren, zij is 15 jaar en haar 2 broers wonen bij ons op de herstelboerderij. Ze woont in één van de grootste en gevaarlijkste favelas in Fortaleza. Haar situatie is erg gecompliceerd. We proberen haar zoveel mogelijk te begeleiden maar dat is som erg moelijk. De borstvoeding heeft ze al bijna gelijk opgegeven vanwege pijn, haar moeder die zelf een kleine baby heeft neemt dit soms van haar over, in 2 maand tijd heeft de baby al 3 verschillende namen gehad, vanaf het begin gaf ze de baby al rijstepap in niet gesteriliseerde flesjes die waarschijnlijk al veelvoudig door oudere broertjes en zusjes zijn gebruikt, en zo kan ik nog wel even doorgaan……. ze heeft heel hard gebed nodig!

Nieuwe Uitdaging!

Ook wij kunnen jullie gebed wel gebruiken, Peter en Selma, onze leiders zijn 4 maanden op verlof in Engeland en hebben ons gevraagd om de leiding van de boerderij voor deze tijd over te nemen. Een hele verantwoordelijkheid om een team en de vele activiteiten in goede banen te leiden!

Binnenkort zullen we ook weer een nieuwsbrief schrijven, door al de drukte komt dat er soms gewoon niet van…….

Oh my, how time flies, in Europe spring has started and here in the northeast of brasil slowly the rainy season is starting. As you can see our blog has a new face, it’s not done completely yet, but I hope this way it will be easier to navigate, and we hope you will enjoy to read our messages !

Jander’s birthday

We celebrated Jander’s birthday with a traditional barbecue, we had a full house and it was loads of fun!

Efraim

Efraim still enjoys school very much. His portuguese is improving and he loves to sing the songs he learns at school.

When you look at this picture don’t be shocked and think we got a horribel disease, it’s just one of the creative acts of sir Efraim, from top to toe…..

Vida Nova

Half february the son of A***was born, she is 15 years old and her 2 brothers live with us on the farm. She is living in one of the biggest and dangerous favelas in Fortaleza. Her situation is very complicated. We are trying to accompany her, but it’s very dificult sometimes. She almost immediately gave up on breastfeeding because she said it hurt, and her mother who has a baby herself sometimes takes it over, in 2 months times the baby already has had 4 diferent names, and right from the start she has been giving the baby rice cereal in old unsterilized bottles who probably have been used often by her other brothers ans sisters, and there’s much more to tell…please just pray for her!

New Challenge!

We could also use some of your prayer, Peter and Selma, our leaders are in england for 4 months and they have asked us to take care and be responsable for everything on the restoration farm. A big responsability to lead a team and all the activities in the right direction!

Soon we’ll write another newsletter, we’re so busy lately that it’s hard to find time t do these things…….

First Week at School

Even though we’ve only been here for a week, we really wanted to write an update on our blog, because everyone is probably curious about Efraims first week at school! He is now going to a christian private school. Wehave to wake up early as he needs to be at school at 7:20, which means we have to leave home at 7. At 11:10 we can pick him up again! The first day was a bit hard, he did not want me to leave, and because it was his first day, they allowed me to stay for a while, once they went to play in the sand he was oke and he said goodbye to me with a big smile. The second day he had to cry a little when we had to say goodbye, the third day he used his uniform for the first time and he was so proud that with lots of enthusiams he showed it to his teacher (Tia Karina), he barely had time to give a hug goodbye. On the 4th day he was singing a song he had learned at school, so on the 5th day we gave the teacher a present (some dutch goodies) to thank her for giving us such a sepcial first week of school. Efraim has his own agenda so every day we can see what he has done and how it went, he even gets some homework!

Before they can go home they also get a shower there. He likes his unifrom so much that the teacher told us that after taking a shower he did not want to put on his clean clothes that I had put in his backpack, he only wanted to wear his uniform!

Jander and I bring him to school together every day, because from there we go straight to the farm, where we have time of worship and intercessions with everybody. Right now I am preparing information for volunteers, and I’m preparing the blogs of the diferent projects. Picking up Efraim from school we divide with /selma, the leader of the base, because their son Danny goes to the same school. We have lunch together at the farm. First the plan was that I was going to be home working with Efraim in the afternoons, but Efraim likes it so much to play at the farm, outside and with Danny, that most of the time i stay working there.

Primeira semana na escola

Mesmo que a gente só voltou há uma semana, a gente realmente queria escrever no nosso blog, porque todo mundo deve estar curioso como foi a primeira semana de Efraim na escola. Ele está indo para uma escola particular cristã chamado Agape. Ele estuda de manhã então temos que acordar cedo, ele deve estar na escola as 7:20, temos que sair de casa as 7. As 11:20 podemos buscar ele de novo. O primeiro dia foi um pouco dificil para ele, mas porque era primeiro dia deixaram eu ficar com ele um pouco. Quando foram brincar com as crianças na aréa, ele já estava bem e até deu um tchau para mim, com um grande sorriso. O segundo dia ele chorou um pouco na hora de despedir. No terceiro dia ele estava de farda pela primeira vez e ele estava tão orgulhoso que com muito entusioasmo mostrou a farda para a professora dele, ta Karina, ele quase não tinha mas tempo para dar um abraço de despedida! No 4o dia ele já estava cantando uma musica que ele aprendeu na escola, e no 5o dia a gente deu um presente para a professora para agradecer pela primeira semana na escola tão especial! Efraim tem uma agenda da escola, e até dever de casa as vezes!

Antes de voltar para casa ele ainda toma um banho na escola, ele gosta tanto de sua farda que depois de tomar banho a professora nos contou que ele só queria colocar a farda de novo e não as roupas limpas que eu tinha mandado!

Jander e eu levamos ele para escola juntos, pois de lá nós vamos direto para o sitio onde trabalhamos. Começamos todos os dia com um tempo de louvor e intercessão. No momento estou preparando material para os voluntarios, e vou montar os blogs dos projetos. Buscar Efraim da escola fazemos juntos com nosso líder Selma, porque o filho deles também estuda na mesma escola e assim precisamos só de ir com 1 só carro, mais pratico! Nós almoçamos no sítio também. A idéia era que na maioria das tardes eu ainda ia trabalhar em casa com Efraim, mas ele gosta tanto de brincar no sitio, e com Dany, que na maioria das vezes eu continuo trabalhando no sitio.
