To make several servings of great tasting iced tea quickly, try using your automatic drip coffee maker.

It’s complete laziness that brought this idea to me today. I hate the traditional method of making iced tea; it always takes too long to make a lot of servings. I thought I’d try using my coffee maker instead and I am absolutely thrilled with the results…

The process here is the same as making coffee. Fill coffee maker with 12 cups of cold water. Place paper coffee filter in basket and add 8 tea bags (tags cut off). I like to make my tea strong and add a lot of ice to it – you can adjust the strength to your liking. Once the water has run through the machine and tea is brewed, turn it off, take pot off of burner and let tea cool down for a bit. Add brewed tea to an ice-filled glass, add sugar and lemon to taste.

My daughter extended the life of her skinny jeans and I organized my desk...

My daughter had a bright idea the other day – she’d outgrown the length, but not the waistline on a pair of jeans, so she cut off about 6-inches from the legs and created a cool pair of frayed capris. I couldn’t pass up working with the remnant pieces and that was when “The Office Pocket” was born…

A cuff from a pair of jeans is now helping me to keep my desk clear of clutter.

A Magnetic Bulldog Clip holds my new office pocket to my magnet board.

Just turn cuff inside out, sew cut end closed, turn right side out and clip pocket to your fridge or magnet board with a Magnetic Bulldog Clip (available at office supply stores – they're about $4.00 for a 3-pack).

I found that keeping the pocket long and folding it to the length I wanted gave me more flexibility. If I want to use the pocket to hold my headphones, I can leave the pocket long.

The Bulldog clip is very strong and will even hold up a heavier item, like my headphones.

Keep it long or roll it short, this easy-to-make pocket is a handy way to keep clutter off of your work surface.

This DIY gift box is great way to wrap a small gift in a special way.

When I work with paper bags, I like to condition the paper a bit and add interesting texture to it by wrinkling it up and then smoothing it out. Once the paper looks the way I like, I cut out 6, 5-inch squares from the paper.

Enter for a chance to win the book "Open House For Butterflies" written by Ruth Krauss & illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Deadline for entry is 5/21/12.

Yesterday, I was saddened to hear that Maurice Sendak passed away. He was such an avant-garde writer and illustrator of children’s literature. His vision was truly unique. Over the years, his words and images have become such a happy part of our family’s bedtime reading; helping us to stretch our imaginations, think creatively and laugh.

I found it funny yesterday when my kids and I returned home from school to find a butterfly at our front steps. It floated around us for a bit and even tried to get inside of our house when we opened the door. My 7-year-old gently guided it out and the carefree butterfly happily fluttered off. “She must think this is an open house for butterflies!”, I said. My mind went directly to the illustrations from Ruth Krauss and Maurice Sendak’s book of the same name and my daughter and I agreed that the moment was a funny and heart-warming experience.

I thought it would be nice to do a Maurice Sendak book giveaway for you today. You can enter for a chance to win his book, Open House For Butterflies, by leaving your contact information in the “comments” section of this post or by emailing me at cf@cfabbridesigns.com. Winner will be chosen at random & contacted via email. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is May 21, 2012 – 12:00 pm CST. Good Luck!

For a Father's Day gift, try making this fun cork-covered pencil cup...

You do need a lot of corks for this project, but if you’ve read yesterday’s post, you may feel a bit more confident about giving this one a try. For Father’s Day, the kids can make this fun cork pencil cup that doubles as a bulletin board of sorts…

Need a bunch of corks for a project? Try these tips for amassing a pretty large collection in a flash...

I love working with wine corks; I love their colors, texture and versatility. I realize that many of my cork projects require a large amount of corks, so I thought I’d share my tips for amassing a good collection fairly quickly…

Even if you don't drink a drop of wine, you can get crackin' on a pretty impressive cork collection for your projects.

Tips for building a cork collection in a flash:

- Keep a large glass vase or apothecary jar around to catch all of your own corks

- Ask friends to do the same for you (if they know you’re crafty, they’ll understand)

- If you’re out to dinner with a large group and the wine is flowing, ask the waiter in advance to save the corks for you (they’ll be OK with it)

- Call a local bar and ask if you can have any corks that would otherwise be thrown away – politeness, a smile and a sincere “Thank You” go a long way with this

- Check EBay. I’ve seen lots containing 500 real corks selling for about $50.00

Here are a few links to my favorite cork projects: Cork Burst & Cork Garland.

It only took a few hours to create this extra workspace in my home...

An entertainment armoire is converted into a workspace…

My husband and I bought this entertainment armoire when we were first married. We no longer use it to house our TV, so we converted it into a work station.

The shelves already had openings for cords, so the transition was quite easy. This armoire is now the perfect place to hide the scanner and other necessary work-related supplies.

I painted the interior side of the doors with a few coats of blackboard paint – to add more functionality to the space.

Our daughters' artwork and other eye candy decorate the interior walls and lift my spirits when I engage with this space.

An inexpensive IKEA light now shines some much-needed light from above.

All of these changes helped to make this space less of a drag to visit and less of an eyesore when the doors are open.
