We’re asking you to support this special endeavor.

This March, Michael is embarking on a 2,500-mile, six-month journey as he attempts to become the first person ever to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail and the Ozark Trail back-to-back. The purpose of Michael’s hike is to help children who have been abused, discarded, or ignored. Michael’s passion for service stems from a childhood of abuse that left him emotionally and physically scarred – but determined to not let his abuse define his character or his life.

Michael is pairing up with fellow Washington University student Brooke James, who spent four years in Africa building schools for neglected blind children, and who is blind herself.

Aware of the need to “think globally, act locally,” Michael and Brooke hope to raise awareness at home and abroad. All donations received will be split equally between Family Resource Center and The School for the Blind in Mokolo, Africa.

Matt Harvey’s term has expired after a very successful tenure as Governance Board President. He says he has thoroughly enjoyed his term as president and is proud of FRC’s service to kids, as well as the agency’s all-time fundraising record in 2011. “FRC is a great organization with talented people from top to bottom,” he says. “It’s a class act.”

FRC’s strong mission and its exceptional people keep him motivated, Matt says. “If Family Resource Center keeps its focus on good quality service – remains the ‘best in class’ – we will survive this tough economy.”

Matt is a partner at McGladrey & Pullen (Accounting and Consultants) and a very involved father (logging long hours playing Legos and junior monopoly). He is also a skilled trivia player. He was on the winning team for two successive years at the Young Professionals Board’s annual Trivia Night, and he attributes his team’s success to “surrounding myself with people smarter than me!”

Matt has graciously offered to assist FRC in an advisory role as Asha Lundal transitions into the presidency. “Matt is an exceptional business professional with a ton of heart for what Family Resource Center does,” Asha says. “I am very fortunate to have had his leadership and to have his ongoing assistance.”

In 2011, Shop for an Angel will supply gifts for over 700 children!
