How to Split or Prune a Tree in Family Tree Maker

If your family tree is like mine, it has grown a lot of branches, some of which you aren't interested in anymore or now realize don't belong on your tree. Or perhaps you want to split off part of a tree to send to someone else or upload to a website. But how do you do that using your genealogy software? I've posted a tutorial at Genealogytools.com that explains, step by step, how to do it using Family Tree Maker 2010 for Mac or later (although it should work for the later Windows versions, as well). Ben turned the tutorial into videos for FTM for Mac 2 and FTM 2012.

I discuss this question at GenealogyTools.com. I provide some links to websites with feature comparisons and reviews. Bottom line: decide what features are important to you, find software that supposedly has them, and then test that software yourself. Of course, some software doesn't have a trial option, including Family Tree Maker. Maybe that's a good reason to rule it out from the beginning.
