One of the decisions you make when you book a cruise is whether to have an inside or outside cabin. Of course, the outside cabins are generally preferred because they have a window to the outside world. Inside cabins typically have no windows and are more confining, but in contrast they also tend to cost less.

The decision to have an outside or inside cabin is a matter of cost and personal choice. If money is an issue, then an inside cabin is one way to save on your vacation dollar. And, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.

Whether or not you have an inside or outside cabin, you will be receiving the same services offered all over the ship. Your room steward will still service your room, make up the beds and keep it clean. You will still be able to get room service. You will still have your own private bathroom facilities.

The differences in having an inside cabin are as follows:

Inside cabins can sometimes be a bit smaller than outside ones, but not always. It is wise to study the deck plans and layout of the ship you are sailing on before choosing a cabin placement.

Inside cabins tend to be located on the lower decks, but not always. Again, study the ship’s deck plans before making a cabin commitment.

Inside cabins typically have no windows, portholes or balconies, but not always. New ships are being designed now that feature inside cabins overlooking an interior courtyard-some even have balconies overlooking the courtyard. The ship’s deck plans will tell you which ships have this new feature.

The one downside to having an interior cabin placement is the really the lack of a window. It can make your experience more pleasurable to be able to view the ocean waters through your cabin window as you cruise. And, having a window does not seem to be as confining. (If you suffer from claustrophobia, having a window in your cabin could be crucial.)

But when all is said and done, how much time are you going to spend in your cabin anyways? A cruise is not about sitting in your cabin all day, but in having fun by experiencing the activities, the various ports visited, the fantastic dining, and all the other exciting things a cruise ship has to offer.

The choice is up to you on whether or not an inside or outside cabin is that important. But if cost or even availability is a factor, you may want to choose an inside cabin before choosing not to cruise at all.

However, the new rejuvenated and reunited Berlin is marching ahead into the future post millennium. It is casting itself as the most important new and modernistic city of Continental Europe.

Berlin’s dark past as Hitler’s capital of Nazi atrocities and as the capital of Cold War in the later years, has not escaped the psyche of the local population or the visitors. The popular opinion says that Berliners do not know where they are going, but know their past, and do not want to go back there. After being completely annihilated in the WW II bombings, Berlin has since optimistically rebuilt itself as a modern structure of glass and steel.

The scars still remain, mostly as a tourist attraction. For example the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial church displays the shell of the bell tower that remains, in striking contrast to the modern church constructed to the west, fondly nicknamed “lipstick and powderbox” because of the design.

The contrast between East and West Berlin before the wall fell is still evident since East Berlin, proud of its cultural heritage, rebuilt its museums and churches whereas West Berlin built new museums and theatres. East and West are still coming together to form a whole Berlin and the process will take time.

Berlin being the new German capital is living up to its reputation as the dynamic hub of continental Europe, with nightlife being the most exiting and wild. The city, after accommodating the German Government as the seat of the new capital, has undergone a major facelift with new streets, sky scrapers and rail lines at a whopping cost of more than $100 billion. Most of this has gone into the central district (Mitte) which houses glittering luxury hotels and shopping arcades. The effort in restoration of Unter den Linden to its pre war glory and Hotel Adlon, the most famous hotel in pre war Germany and Europe, has been notable.

The chic district of boutiques and cafes, the Prenzlauer Berg, had not faced the damage of WW II bombings and resoration of this part has been relatively easier. This flurry of restoration and activity has caused a spiraling effect in the real estate market with sharp increase in prices as well inconveniences of living around construction sites for Berliners. Most famous buildings of Berlin have been restored during this process. Reichstag got a new glass dome topped with the Eagle (national symbol) replacing the old imperial hunter. The Oranienburger Strasse synagogue

The Oranienburger Strasse synagogue (also known as Neue Synagoge Berlin-Centrum Judaicum/The New Synagogue), bombed beyond salvage by Allied bombers, has been restored to its old splendor. Likewise, Berlin Cathedral and the five state museums on Museum Island have been restored to their original glory. The natural beauty of Berlin has been enhanced with the few gardens and farms covering about 1/3rd of the total area, which further beautifies the city.

The Berlin Tourist Information Center, Europa Center handles all information regarding Berlin in general and Hotel bookings. The best and easiest way to access the information is from the site www.berlin-tourism.de.

If you enjoy going on vacations, than you probably know just how expensive these vacations can be. Traveling to the Caribbean is no different. Although it may be pricey, a vacation to the Caribbean will be one that you will never forget, so you should consider it, even if you have little money in your budget for traveling. There are ways to raise the money for this kind of a vacation.

First and foremost, you can begin budgeting for your Caribbean vacation simply by declaring to yourself that you are doing so. It puts you in a different mindset when you are putting money into a certain fund or account geared to a specific purchase. Open a separate savings account and decide that whatever money you put into this bank account cannot be taken out except to pay for your Caribbean vacation. Every time you get a paycheck, put a little money into this account. It doesn’t have to be a lot-it all adds up over time. Make sure that you don’t cut yourself short for things like mortgage payments or groceries though, but try to put as much into the account as possible.

The second step to budgeting for a Caribbean vacation is to set goals. Figure out about how much you will spend on your Caribbean vacation and then monitor your bank account carefully to reach this goal. You should figure in money for transportation, accommodations, meals, activities, shopping, and extra costs. Always estimate high so that you are sure to have all the money you need. If you have money left over when you come home, you can always use it to start your next vacation fund.

Lastly, when budgeting for a Caribbean vacation, make sure to plan out your travel date well in advance so that you can hunt for the best deals. Cheaper flights and hotel rooms can often be found online, and you can read reviews of some of the tourist destinations. If you find out that a certain museum was rated as boring by other travelers, for example, you can save yourself the expense and instead spend the day on a free public beach.

If you are not really particular about where in the Caribbean you want to travel, sometimes you can get the best deals by booking at the last minute. This means you can decide (by searching the internet or asking your travel agent for deals) which is the most budget-friendly place for you to visit a week or two before you plan to leave. This can be an extremely exciting way to book a vacation. And there are always hotels that have last minute deals for you to take advantage of.

Another thing to consider when budgeting for a Caribbean vacation is to look into the all-inclusive package deals. Many vacation resorts offer all-inclusive vacations, which for one price includes your airfare, travel to and from the hotel, all meals, beverages and entertainment. This can be an extremely affordable way to travel.

Travel to the Caribbean is expensive no matter how many corners you cut. However, no matter what your financial situation, this kind of travel is possible. You simply must learn to budget your money so that the extra money you have left over from every paycheck can be used toward your Caribbean vacation. This will help you achieve your goals towards a large sum of money to be used toward the trip of a lifetime. Not all of us are millionaires, but we all deserve to live like millionaires sometimes.

Traveling anywhere in the world can be fun or stressful depending on how well you pack. When you are going overseas, it is a good idea to learn about all of the things you’ll need and to plan you clothing and personal belongings carefully. Packing well can make your trip extra special and less hassled.

First, pack all of the important things you need in a place that is secure, yet accessible. If you are traveling with your family, have all of these things in the same place to prevent confusions. Important documents to keep on hand include airplane tickets, passports, IDs, boarding passes, copies of prescriptions, and other things you could need quickly to help your time in the airport go smoothly.

You should carefully plan out what to pack in your carry on. All airports have special rules as to what can and cannot be taken onboard the plane. These rules change frequently, so your best bet is to call the airline about a week before your flight to be sure you are up to date on the rules. You can also check the airline’s website. A general rule of thumb is to not carry anything that could be considered a weapon, including nail clippers, lighters, and pocket knives. Even pens are now considered too sharp to carry on a plane. Also, water bottles have been restricted in some airports, as inclusions in carry on luggage.

Also when packing your carry on bags, be sure to include your bathing suit and a change of clothing. Often times when traveling your luggage may arrive on a flight other than the flight on which you came or it will be delayed somewhat on transit to your hotel. It is better to be able to wait by the pool in comfortable clothing instead of becoming stressed and having nothing to do while you wait for your luggage to arrive! You should also carry a small amount of money on you for this reason.

Think of function when you’re traveling. Airports can be very busy, so if you have small children traveling with you consider packing extremely lightly or having your luggage shipped straight to the hotel. Wheeled luggage is also a good idea, and to save space and prevent wrinkles, trying rolling your clothing into tubes. Remember not to stress too much if you forget something-you can always pick it up when you get there. Spending a few extra dollars for shampoo or sunscreen is no big deal-and while we’re on the topic of shampoo and sunscreen, remember that pressure changes due to air travel can cause bottles to burst. Store them in plastic bags so that you can be sure your belongings will be safe from spills.

Packing for your vacation does not have to be hard as long as you follow the above tips.

Choosing the deck that your cabin is on can be an important decision in adding to your cruise enjoyment. Different cruise ships have many floors, or decks, and not all decks are the same. The upper-most decks on a cruise ship are usually the most desirable, but even if you cannot afford to be on one of those prestigious decks, the good news is that is doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

When choosing a deck for your cruise adventure it is wise to look at the location of your cabin on the deck you are considering. Before committing yourself to a particular deck, from the ship’s layout pay attention to what is located where. Is the elevator shaft or engine room in close proximity to your cabin? Does the deck you choose have the disco on it that may be noisy late into the night? Does this deck contain the children’s activity area which may be noisy during the day when you wish to nap?

The higher the deck your cabin is on usually indicates a higher price tag. The upper deck cabins are typically larger and better appointed, and come with larger windows or portholes. Some even have patio doors that lead onto a private balcony. They are usually bright and sunny (depending on the weather) and quite pleasant.

The upper decks can also be closer to more of the amenities that you may wish to use and therefore be more convenient to you. For instance, your cabin could be on or close to the swimming pool deck where you would have closer access to enable you to change or use your own bathroom more easily. If you wish to be close to a particular activity area, restaurant or event, then paying attention to what is on each deck could provide that indulgence for you.

Also, an upper deck location provides a great birds-eye view of your surroundings, whether you have a large porthole window in your cabin or a private balcony.

But, there are also downfalls to an upper deck choice that you may wish to consider.

The movement of the ship is increased on the upper levels. The lower cabins near the water’s edge are more stabilized, so if you are prone to sea-sickness or affected greatly by the ship’s movement, perhaps a lower deck may be more appropriate for your deck choice.

Also, with the upper deck cabins you may tend to get a bit more noise. Some of the cabins located on the upper decks can be close to a casino, restaurant, disco or all-night bar, which may be noisy. Also, during the day there will be more activity passing by your windows or door by other passengers on their way to activities located on that deck, which also may cause the noise level to increase.

Not only do lower deck choices provide more stability with the ship’s movement, but when you have an outside cabin, you can also get a great view. Looking out of your cabin porthole at the water provides you with a unique point of view. You can sit in your cabin and be at eye-level with the waves rushing by, which can truly be a beautiful experience.

So, before choosing a deck for your cruise adventure, do not only consider the price tag associated with it. Consider what you require and expect on your vacation. If you want a more stable environment with less activity, it may be more appropriate for you to choose a lower deck. If you want more comforts, such as a balcony or wanting to be closer to the activities, perhaps an upper deck may be more suitable.

Hispaniola lies west of Puerto Rico and east of Cuba. The Dominican Republic makes up the eastern third of Hispaniola, and the nation of Haiti makes up the other part of the island.

For most of its history, the Dominican Republic has experienced political turmoil and unrest and has suffered through many non-representative and tyrannical governments. The present-day nation has moved toward representative democracy.

The island is a classed as tropical maritime with a wet season from May to November. It can also be prone to hurricanes in season, from June to November.

Like its Caribbean neighbors, Dominican Republic is made up of a blend of European colonists, Tainos Indians and Africans. The official language spoken there is Spanish, with Haitian Creole, English, French, German and Italian also heard in varying degrees.

The cuisine of Dominican Republic is made up of a combination of Spanish, Taino and African influences and is similar to that of other Latin American cultures. Lunch is usually the main meal of the day, with chicken, pork or fish being commonly served. Meat or seafood, rice, potatoes or plantains, served with some type of vegetable or salad makes up a typical meal. Sofrito, which is a mix of local herbs and spices, is a common ingredient in many dishes.

One of the main features that draws tourists to Dominican Republic is its fantastic beaches.

Part of the fun of taking a cruise is being able to see different places when you dock at the various ports of call. Each ship’s itinerary is different and it is up to you to choose a cruise according to the places you want most to see.

Your cruise brochure, on-line web search or travel agent can tell you what ports the ship stops at, and what the best sights to see are. The ship line you choose to cruise on tries to pick ports that have things of interest for their passengers to enjoy. They encourage excursions to enhance your cruise experience.

It is best to plan the excursions you wish to take early on in your cruise experience, and sometimes even before you leave home. Some tours tend to be more popular and will often book up fairly quickly. Sometimes you can book excursions ahead through your travel agent but if not plan to book the excursion you want to take during your first day on the ship so you won’t miss out.

Excursions and additional tours are not included in the price of your cruise. These are counted as extras. Of course, you can still disembark at each port of call you visit, but in order to take one of the excursions, you must book in advance and pay extra. Each excursion is priced differently, according to the value and complexity of the tour involved. If booking an excursion package on-board the ship, you will need to have your credit card ready.

The variety of tours and excursions available on any ship will typically have something of interest that will appeal to any passenger. Common excursions can include snorkeling or diving trips, visits to historic sites, shopping ventures to specialty stores, craft markets, or artist shops, museum trips, sports events like playing at notable golf courses, horse back riding, swimming at beach locations, hiking, rain forest canopy adventures, or visiting any number of other interesting tourist sights.

Some excursions even offer the cruiser to visit a private island that the ship line may have exclusive access to. This type of excursion can really be a fantastic experience. You can swim or walk along a secluded beach with very few other people on it, and the ship line will usually supply a lunch or barbeque to go with it.

When booking an excursion to add onto your cruise experience, you must follow the guidelines set up for that particular tour. If it dictates a specific time for departure, it is necessary for you to be on time, for leaving the ship or returning to it. With so many passengers, schedules are important and are strictly adhered to. It is not uncommon for late passengers to be left behind.

Adding an excursion or tour to your cruise will only tend to make your trip more enjoyable. Discovering the ports of call you visit and all they have to offer will definitely add excitement to your travel experience.

The Caribbean islands are beautiful tropical treasures for you to visit, with this region in the world being one of the most popular tourist sports. Trinidad and Tobago and just two islands you can visit while on your Caribbean vacation. Within its own nation, Trinidad and Tobago has between one and two million year-round inhabitants and welcomes people from all nations. Both of the islands are great to visit.

Trinidad is located very close to the coast of Venezuela. It is the larger of the two islands, and most agree that it is also the more exciting. The thrilling nightlife you find on Trinidad rivals nightlife found anywhere else in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico’s San Juan. You can reach Trinidad in only 15 minutes by air or two hours by sea, and the pink sand beaches are perfect for rest and relaxation. Tobago, on the other hand, is a serene and secluded tropical getaway.

Like many of the other islands in the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago celebrate Carnival, which is a large two day festival right before Lent begins. The celebration is comparable to New Orleans’ Mardi Gras. Carnival season brings thousands of visitors to Trinidad and Tobago, since the country is known for holding one of the largest and most exciting festivals in the world-full of culture, dancing, cuisine, contests, and parades.

However, even if you don’t visit during Carnival, you can still enjoy a number of wonderful activities. Bird watching is very popular here, with the Caronia Swamp being a secluded home of the Scarlet Ibis. Other natural areas to visit include the Arima-Blanchisseuse Main Road and the Pointe-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust in southern Trinidad. Visiting some of this county’s many beaches is a treat as well, including Pigeon Point, Manzanilla Bay, Chacachacare, Mount Irvine, and Store Bay. You can enjoy surfing, fishing, digging for shell fish, boating, and snorkeling at these locations. Just a few of the fish you may encounter are barracudas, whale sharks, manta rays, and porpoises. Of course, you can also spend the day just relaxing on the beautiful beaches as well. From wind surfing to sun bathing, there is something for everyone in Trinidad and Tobago.

You can even get away from the beach and check out the calypso always present at the local pubs and dance halls. A number of musicians even cater to tourists and let them try playing their instruments so you can enjoy learning to play a tune on the steel pan or simply watch costumed dances take the stage.

Before leaving, make sure you get time to do everything you want-you may have to extend your vacation another week!

With a unique blend of colonial history and African charm, Bermuda has an old-world charm. Being Britain’s oldest colony, British influences dominate the island’s culture. Here you may walk down a street in the City of Hamilton and see a judge in a powdered wig, or witness a bobby directing traffic or stop to watch a cricket match. Or you could find African influences in the reggae music and spicy cuisine.

Although Bermuda seems like one long landmass, it is actually made up of 181 islands, islets and rock formed by lava millions of years ago. Most of the smaller islands are uninhabited, but eight of the larger ones are joined by bridges and one causeway to form what visitors know to be Bermuda. The geographical terrain is made up of low, rolling hills and relatively flat land, with what many believe to be the most exquisite coastline in the Atlantic.

Bermuda is known for its pink sand beaches, which exists in only a few places worldwide. The pink beaches are formed by the colored particles that wash ashore from the tropical coral reefs surrounding the south side of the island. Almost all of the southern shore has the spectacular blushing pink sands, but South Shore Park features the greatest concentration. South Shore Park, a public beachfront area, extends from Warwick Long Bay to Horseshoe Bay, and includes several secluded coves. Many hotels and resorts along this beachfront have private beach oases for their guests.

Bermuda offers an abundance of fish and other marine species for underwater lovers to enjoy. They have everything from anemones to humpback whales that frequent the sparkling clear waters. A vast barrier reef, which is one of the northern-most in the world, is home to an abundance of sea life and corals, and is a rich find for snorkelers and scuba divers alike.

The island offers many things for a tourist to do. For the sun lover, the fantastic beaches offer relaxing public and private sun-bathing, along with spa treatments and have many food and beverage stands. The more active visitor can enjoy body surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, golfing, or kayaking, just to name a few activities. Exploring more than 400 shipwrecks while diving is a treat for any visitor to Bermuda. In fact, Bermuda is called the “shipwreck capital of the Atlantic”. And divers can also see more than 650 species of fish.

Shopping is also a popular activity for island visitors. Bermuda is well known as an international shopping destination, and there is no sales tax to be paid here-the price you see is the price you pay. Popular items include handcrafted gold trinkets, cedar-wood gifts, and of course, Bermuda shorts.

For those who love sightseeing, Bermuda offers a great deal. Bermuda has more churches per capita than anywhere else. The visitor can see any one of the many ancient forts built by the British, or visit one of the 785 historic houses. There are Botanical Gardens to see, or the Royal Naval Dockyard (an active naval base during the War of 1812), or even a perfumery to visit.

Bermuda also has an abundance of wildlife for the nature lover. Their world-famous bird watching can include 360 different species of birds. There are many nature reserves with exotic flora and fauna, as well as underground caves to explore. A visitor can also splash around with the dolphins at the Bermuda Maritime Museum. They even have a zoo with animals from the Caribbean, Australia, Asia, Madagascar and the Galapagos.

There are art galleries to view, craft studios to shop in, local cinemas, and classical and modern dance and music productions performed throughout the year. The annual Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts is always popular.

With all that Bermuda has to offer, it is no wonder that it is an extremely popular vacation spot. Imagine sitting on the soft pink coral sands, enjoying the warm breezes that drift across the sparkling waters as the dolphins play and the bountiful fish swim nearby.

One of Amsterdam’s claims to fame is being known to be a haven for hippies. It has moved since then to be a bigger economy and a successful cosmopolitan business centre. The hippie era was the 60’s and 70’s is when Amsterdam got its name as the hippie haven, a free-for-all culture. Most people still look at Amsterdam in that light even today.

The new economy has brought prosperity which is evident all around from the growing business zones and transformation of the general landscape surrounding ancient town houses and canals.

With about ¾ of a million of populace, the transformation of Amsterdam from a hippie haven to a buzzing business city is not yet complete. The culture of free thinking and collective living has not yet gone away. Only the free culture is not an offshoot of semi legal toxic and exotic plants, but a by-product of successful economic growth today.

Today’s Amsterdam does not welcome the hippie youth that thinks getting high on hash is a part of the city’s culture, but prefers a better class of people that have a spending capacity. Amsterdam is slowly transforming itself into a city where the pot-heads prevailed to a city you can enjoy without a big dent in your pocketbook.

Amsterdam historically has been a major trading post during the colonial times, the reason why you will find scattered town houses around the otherwise neatly aligned canals. These were made by the then wealthy tradesmen. Today these houses mostly house smoke shops, exotic night life and a string of brothels. This historical irony has been taken in stride by the local populace and which, by a collective decision, licensed the brothels and the sale of some drugs in licensed coffee shops. These places are still a major tourist attraction today.

Amsterdam is attempting to get away from its drug-fame and they are busy planning and remodeling a few town houses into various centers of innovative business. The citizens are quite involved with biking, tasting ethnic food or just relaxing and watching life from the sidelines reading newspapers on a sidewalk café.

Amsterdam has its own charm that casts a spell when you see the 1200 odd bridges lighted up over 150 odd canals. The glory of Amsterdam charms you further when it emerges form the mist in the mornings. The days could not more perfect for a visitor when he visits the flower market that floats, Rembrandt Museum, Jewish Historical Museum and the obvious social joints like nightclubs, brown cafes etc.

English is most prevalent language of Amsterdam; it is spoken fluently by a major portion of the populace. The basic attitude of people here is very friendly and carefree, as much that one could chat up a local in course of one beer.

Each province of Netherlands has its own tourist organization strewn around with multi lingual attendants. These Associations for Foreign Travel, as they are called or in short VVV (fay-fay-fay), book accommodations, help making travel arrangements and keeps the visitor abreast with latest programmes. They also publish Amsterdam Day by Day, a monthly magazine stating programmes for the month for a mere $2.50.
