Fashion photographer Peter Gowland dies at 93

Peter Gowland, an innovative fashion photographer who invented elite cameras and equipment that he used to shoot pinups and magazine covers for six decades, has died. He was 93.

Gowland's business partner and wife of 68 years, Alice, told the Los Angeles Times in a Sunday story that Gowland died March 17 at his Los Angeles home of complications from hip surgery. He was 93.

Gowland shot more than 1,000 magazine covers, mostly glamour shots of female models but also portraits of celebrities like Rock Hudson and Robert Wagner. His covers included Rolling Stone, Playboy, See and Modern Photography.

He usually worked in and around the home and studio in Pacific Palisades he and his wife built in 1955. The pair erected scaffolding around the swimming pool and designed a trough that could create a waterfall pouring over a model.

In the late 1950s, Gowland also invented the twin-lens Gowlandflex camera, which used 4-by-5 inch film for high-quality pictures and has since been used by photographers like Annie Leibovitz and and Yousuf Karsh.

Born in Hollywood in 1916 to actors Gibson Gowland and Sylvia Andrew, Peter Gowland grew up on movie sets and worked as film extra in his youth. He learned photo lighting and techniques from watching movies shot, but learned to love still photos more.

He met Alice Gowland when her boyfriend asked him to take her picture. The pair had their first date on the day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, and two weeks later were married in Las Vegas.

When Peter Gowland was drafted during World War II, Alice found success selling the amateur pinup pictures he had been taking on Southern California beaches. When he returned from the war the two began their business together.

She sold and catalogued his photos and helped scantily clad models relax in front of his camera.

Along with his magazine and poster work, Gowland authored 26 books on photography and lectured on the subject around the country.

Gowland is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Jessica Alba to join judges on `Project Runway'

LOS ANGELES – Jessica Alba is bringing her celebrity fashion sense to "Project Runway."

Lifetime spokeswoman Kannie Yu LaPack says Alba will serve as a guest judge on Thursday's episode of the popular clothing-design competition show.

The 28-year-old actress will help judge a challenge in which the remaining six contestants must create an outfit for an "opinionated celebrity," who they will later discover is show host Heidi Klum.

Other guest judges this season have included Nicole Richie, Molly Sims and Lauren Hutton.

Brittany Murphy Death

Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of actress Brittany Murphy.

Police have been dispatched to Cedars-Sinai and to the Los Angeles home where Murphy, 32, went into cardiac arrest earlier today. Police sources emphasized that their inquiry was preliminary, adding they could not say whether it would point to any criminal conduct. [Note: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said the house was located in West Hollywood.]

L.A. city firefighters responded to a call from the home in the 1800 block of Rising Glen Road. Murphy was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Born in Atlanta, Murphy moved to Burbank with her mother at age 13. Her film break came in the movie "Clueless" (1995), in which she starred opposite Alicia Silverstone.

Murphy has made dozens of other film appearances, including in "Girl Interrupted" (1999), "8 Mile" (2002), "The Dead Girl" (2006), and "Across the Hall" (2009). She also was featured as the voice of Luanne in the animated TV series "King of the Hill."

Murphy specialized in playing characters who were troubled teenagers or mentally disturbed, according to a biography on industry website Internet Movie Data Base.

Murphy was married in 2007 to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, the website said.

Lil Wayne murdered?

Some people just love making up stories on celebrtiy deaths that turn out to be untrue. The latest victim of these fake celebrity deaths is rapper Lil Wayne.

The reports state that the rapper is a victim of the notorious feud between “the Bloods And Crips.”

The reports also said, “shortly after performing at the New Orleans Arena, Lil Wayne was involved in an altercation with members of rival gang the ‘Crips’, and brutally shot 6 times with a semi automatic 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the rapper, however were unable to prevent colossal blood losses and Dwayne Carter was pronounced dead at 02:36 Am, November 1st,shortly after arriving at Tulane University Hospital.”

The story was shocking enough to make its way to the the top Google search.

But for the record, there’s no truth to this. Lil Wayne is alive and well. Although plans for his anticipated clothing lines for both men and women are not in so good a condition, as they’re still on hold or canceled.

Walt Disney Will Show For Free movies on the Internet

Walt Disney will publish its feature films on the Internet for free viewing. Films will be posted on the official site of the studio after their TV show on ABC on Saturday . Currently, the service is accessible for the animated film Finding Nemo.

During the summer, online also will be available for viewing the films Monsters, Inc, Haunted Mansion, Confessions of a Teenage, Princess Diaries 2, Freaky Friday and Peter Pen. The service will work until August 8th. The paintings will be available for viewing from Monday to Friday, reports Reuters.

Disney representatives stated that the proposal was part of the strategy for the company to provide online entertainment and their removal to a qualitatively new level.

The pop-star Madonna has signed a contract with the promoting company Live Nation, refusing to cooperate with major-label Warner Music. The promoter managed to "dive out" the star from the recording company with whom she was working for 25 years, providing many more options for the popularity and promotion of her music.

According to the contract with Live Nation, which is estimated to cost 120 million dollars, the company will handle both, the release of new albums selection, and organization of concert tours, the sale of attributes, the development of websites, DVD production, sale of rights to the use of songs in TV and movies. Beyonce canceled her concert from November 1st in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) because of the demands of local authorities to appear on the stage in "closed" clothing. Instead, her concert will be held in Jakarta.

According to "Associated Press", Beyonce Knowles abandoned her plan to give a concert in Malaysia and instead will act in the neighboring Indonesia, which does not have strict stereotypes about how singers need to dress and behave on stage.

The announcement followed after Beyonce, a global sex symbol with a "small" wardrobe, didn't want to abide to the request of the government of Malaysia, which requires the female on the scene to cover the body from the chest to the knees, including shoulders.
The international management of creative activity, the singers' agency in Los Angeles, announced that the concert, appointed on 1 November in Kuala Lumpur, has been canceled.
Instead Beyonce will hold her concert in Jakarta on November 1st.

The singers' concert organizer, Ahmad Razlan Razali, said that his company -Pineapple Concerts- did not expect such behaviour from Beyonce. He acknowledged that the singer can speak well, as she imagines herself. The values of the Muslim world must not oblige those in the world who do not belong to them.
Gwen Stefani made the "ultimate sacrifice" to the Muslim world, when in August at her concert she was in very closed clothes on the stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Before that, Muslim students and activists demanded that statement because of the bad reputation of the singer.

Italian Tenor Pavarotti Died

Luciano Pavarotti died on Thursday morning at his home in Mondena - related Ansa.

His manager, Terri Robson, told the AP in an e-mailed statement that Pavarotti died at his home in Modena, Italy, at 5 a.m. local time. Pavarotti had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and underwent further treatment in August. " In fitting with the approach that characterised his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness," the statement said.

The famous singer was hospitalized on August 8th in a Modena’s Polyclinic and was being kept under observation. On Saturday Pavarotti returned to his home and family for further recovery.

At his side when he died were his wife, Nicoletta; his four daughters; his sister, Gabriela; his nephews and close relatives and friends, Robson said.

For his fans, the Pavarotti's voice made him the ideal interpreter of the Italian lyric repertory. For millions more, his charismatic presentations of standards like "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's "Turandot" became representatives for what opera is all about.

Paris Hilton was sentenced to jail, then to house arrest because she wasn't eating or sleeping and who could blame her would you feel comfortable locked in a small cell 23 hours a day. Now they have sentenced her back to jail again to finish her sentence.

Which she shouldn't get any personal treatment because she is a celebrity I'm sure several women in the same jail as she is depressed and not eating or sleeping. It's claimed that Hilton has learned her lesson and will not drink and drive again.

Also this morning on The View one of the ladies had a phone conversation with the heiress herself, where she stated, "I'm tired of playing the stupid girl, I'm not stupid and I will not act that way again." Which I'm sure we all figured it was a show for the media attention. Apparently she's not looked in the mirror since she's been there because she's not allowed to wear make-up but it was said she didn't care about that anymore. She talked about the power she had, the fame she had and the money she had and the things she could be doing with that money to make the world a better place, like charity work.

Maybe Paris Hilton has learned a valuable lesson and maybe this has made her open her eyes, grow up and look around her. But as I said before we will have to wait in time to see if she has realized what's going on and how she can make it better for herself and her family. And you have to remember you can't believe everything your read or see.

Paris Hilton isn't the only one going through a rough patch. Lindsay Lohan is going through a rough time just completing rehab and the press making it even harder on her to get her life back on track. Nicole Richie, she's gaining some weight back, she looks better and she's acting better so she's on the right path.

And then you have Britney Spears, who I would say has had it hard. A divorce, the incidents with her babies, the people she considered family and best friends stabbing her in the back and trying to control her life. But she went through rehab and every since then she's been pretty quiet in the media, she's focusing on her babies, on her career and getting her life back on track.

Let's just hope that all of the bad girls of Hollywood get on the right path and by 2008, have their bad girls rep gone and people seeing them in a new light and maybe seeing them for who they really are, human beings that make mistakes and will make plenty more mistakes just like the rest of us. So, in the end are they the bad girls of Hollywood or are they crying out for help? Let's ride this wave and find out.

As far as her personal life is concerned, she dated actor Michael Weatherly her costar in Dark Angel from 2001 to 2003. Afterwords, she was involved with golfer Sergio Garcia. On the set of Fantastic Four, she met Cash Warren the assistant director of the movie.

An interesting fact about Jessica Alba is that she has a strict "no nudity" clause in her contract. This can be attributed to her conservative upbringing.

Nelly Furtado’s Bisexuality - Just A Marketing Strategy?

By now everybody has listened her new album “Loose”. The album was named partly after the TCL band she admires for "taking back their sexuality, showing they were complete women”. It became the most successful album of Nelly’s career, reaching number one in several counties.

The release in June 2006 was also followed by a series of statements issued by the “Promiscuous” star. The real statement that got the press fired up was the one referring to her newly discovered bisexuality.

The “Maneater” singer revealed in an interview with a gay magazine: “I'm reading a book about Chinese medicine which claims all people are inherently bisexual to balance their energies. It makes so much sense. As humans we have both male and female energies.”

Furthermore the singer added that she believes Kurt Cobain’s statement that “in the end, everyone is gay”.

This is partly true. Studies show that men with a high sex drive have a more targeted kind of sexual arousal while women with a high sexual drive tend to desire both sexes.

This being said I wouldn’t argue that the artist is wrong. But clearly she does not have the best reasoning for her belief. In my opinion it would seem more plausible if she would have said she’s a woman who loves having sex and suddenly discovered she enjoys the company of women without saying this is something she read in a book which claims all people are inherently bisexual. So because she read some book now she’s a bisexual.

The debate is whether Nelly is dabbling about bisexual chic which in turn is used for advertising or it is all about advertising and her statements are made due to a marketing strategy.

Bisexual chic is a trend that now conquers more and more people. As a pure example of bisexual chic is Madonna who was seen kissing another girl in her music video “Justify my love” and the scene that made people go crazy at the MTV music awards in 2003 when Madonna kissed Britney Spears and then Christina Aguilera.

The thing is sex sells. And girl kissing girl sells even more! Let’s not forget the success the girls from TATU had. TATU’s lyrics and videos allude to relationship between the two of them and the girls promote it during interviews. The Daily Mail (London) wrote: “Tatu degrades marketing and music at the same time.”

So, is Nelly Furtado using the same marketing strategy as the girls from Tatu? Well, whether she is using this marketing strategy or not, she definitely is drawing lots of attention. Her songs are in top charts and that says it all.

Nelly Furtado is she using her newly discovered bisexuality as a marketing tool or is she just dabbling with bisexual chic?

Dallas And Thomas Co-star In New Thriller

Stars of Kyle XY, Matt Dallas and Bruce Thomas are set to appear in a new thriller entitled Babysitter Wanted. The production company responsible for this venture, Big Screen Entertainment Group (BSEG) concluded the principal photography last November and is currently in post-production.

"The cast did a fantastic job," said BSEG CEO Kimberly Kates in a conversation with Business Wire last year. "I couldn’t be happier with their performances. Our investors are very pleased with the results." Kates is also the film's producer, along with David Zappone and Stephen Eckelberry.

Northern California, Treka and Weed were some of the locations where filming was done, and Mt. Shasta in Siskiyou County was used as a backdrop for the film. Alex Vendler, who was the director of photography, used Panavision Cameras to shoot with the standard 35mm film gauge. BSEG Executive Vice President Michael Manaserri is also the film's co-director.

Business Wire said that the budget and look of Babysitter Wanted is similar to that of horror films Saw, Wolf Creek, High Tension and Hostel. These four films did well in the international movie scene and Hostel, which was executive-produced by Quentin Tarantino, was able to earn an impressive $90 million.

The film's cast is comprised of the Kyle XY stars, Dallas and Thomas, as well as 7th Heaven's Sarah Thompson, Bill Moseley, Kristen Dalton and Nana Visitor from Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Thompson will be playing Angie, a young woman who left home after college and applies for a babysitting job from an ad. She later on ends up getting terrorized the entire night. Dallas plays teenager Rick and Thomas plays Jim Stanton.

On Kyle XY, Dallas plays Kyle, a sixteen year old boy who suddenly wakes up to find that he has no recollection of the past whatsoever, and neither has a bellybutton. He is later brought to a children's home where therapist Nicole Trager is drawn to the mystery of his being. Together with her husband, Stephen Trager, they help Kyle find his true identity and eventually gets tracked down by Zizics, a company that creates clones in artificial wombs.
