While the movie industry has been in summer mode for a full two months, for many, the July 4th weekend marks the official start of summer. To celebrate, there are two saturation level releases coming out this week. Both could be major hits, but they could have real trouble topping Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen over the weekend. Compared to last year, I don't think anything will top Hancock's opening weekend, but combined they should help 2009 maintain its strong pace compared to last year.

The bigger of the two films is Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which is opening in just under 4,000 theaters. So far the reviews for the latest installment of the Ice Age franchise are weak. This is well below the first two films, which could hurt this one's legs. As for its start, it should earn $20 million tonight, roughly $13 million tomorrow, $52 million over the weekend, $85 million over five days, and $225 million in total. That's a little more than the first two films made if you adjust for inflation.

So far, Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen has maintained a relatively strong box office run, and it hasn't collapsed as much as its reviews would indicate. That said, even with the holidays, a 50% drop-off seems hopelessly optimistic. Even a 60% drop-off is not extreme at this point. This gives the film a high-end of $54 million and a low-end of $43 million. Splitting the difference gives us $49 million from Friday to Sunday, but I'm going with $47 million during that timeframe, which would lift its total to just under $300 million after just 12 days.

The other wide release of the week is Public Enemies, which tells the story of the gang of outlaws that were led by John Dillinger, and the FBI agent given the task to bring him in. The film is aiming at a more mature audience, which will both hurt and help its box office chances. On the one hand, this target audience is less likely to rush out opening night, or even opening weekend to see the film. On the other hand, they are more likely to see the movie later in its run, which will give it longer legs. The film's reviews should also help, as it has been able to maintain an overall positive rating, barely. It could reach second place tonight with just over $10 million, while it should add over half that tomorrow, before settling into third place over the weekend with $27 million. There is not much coming out with the same target audience as this film, so this could be enough for it to reach $100 million, but it will be close.

Next up are The Proposal and The Hangover, which should be in quite the battle for fourth place. Quite a few people think the latter has the edge, but I believe The Proposal will come out ahead $12 million to $11 million. This will give The Proposal $92 million in total, leaving it less than a week from crossing $100 million, while The Hangover will reach $200 million sometime during the weekend.

Synopsis:

Few trivia about the movie:

While the film project was put in the development in 2004 Leonardo DiCaprio was initially attached to start in the leading role.
If anyone remember carefully Depp says to one of the bank customers in the trailer, "We're here for the bank's money, not yours" which the line was in same director's film Heat (1995) said by Robert De Niro.

While some identified goofs in the film:

Dillinger (Depp) was refers as the man who killed "Pretty Boy Floyd" but actual fact Charles Arthur "Pretty Boy" Floyd was killed by FBI & Ohio law enforcement officials back October 1934. John Dillinger was actually killed in Chicago by FBI agents outside the Biograph Theater exactly three month before Pretty Boy killed.
As Dillinger (Depp) died in 1934 but in the main trailer the grill of the Dillinger getaway car is 1936 Chevrolet. Obviously the model were not in production until late '35.

Latest figure on 1st night released open in 4234 theaters US domestic Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen bank in ~$16m and foreign collection estimate >$24m which bring to total of >$40m world wide. The run make it 3rd biggest gross estimate collection behind The Dark Knight (>$18m) and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith ($16.9m).

I bet by now of people or at least the teenagers seen a movie called Twilight. With >$380m gross world with on the movie plus >$150m sales on the DVD in US alone I think the next Twilight saga: New Moon will be much anticipate movie this summer too along with Transformers and Harry Potter franchises film. Much to say that the production cost of the 1st movie is just around $37m only and with gross more than 100% should be a good trip to the bank by Summit Entertainment as the film distributor.

As we know that the movies saga based on Book which carry the same title of the movie. What struck most of the movie goers is the Cullen's house which show a modern vampires which live in modern house. When I see the movie I do like the house a lot which bring back to my memories while working in Dublin, Ireland back 2001 to 2003. Hence due to the likeness I decided to post the pictures for viewing. Just a back ground on the house was design by architect Jeff Kovel and known as Hoke House slash Nike House located just outside of Forks, Wa. Why Hoke or Nike house coz designed for Nike exec John Hoke and his family.

As usual few DVDs out this week me to review but only 1 film struck me worthy to buy or even rent i.e. Confessions of a Shopaholic available in Blu-ray.

Isla Fisher plays Rebecaca Bloomwood as young woman who obsessed with shopping which most of them spend on fashion. Fisher as all know that engaged to Sacha Boran Cohen @ Borat @ Ali G. For more details about movie please visit Yahoo movie website. Click here for full summary of the movie.

What I would like to share here the extra features in the disc. The disk offered a DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack which kind of audio we expected for this sort of film genre. Overall the audio was acceptable and not much to mention here.

Six features appear under the banner of Behind the Fashion which include the pieces look at stores, costumes, locations and other elements related to typical fashion movie.

4 deleted scenes and some bloopers of a shopaholic which consists of the usual goofs and silliness which average for this sort of collection. Also included in the disk 3 music videos by Jordyn Taylor, Shontelle featuring Akon & Trey Songz. What can conclude of the videos are mediocre.

Ads include some clips for The Proposal & Lost which also Sneak Peeks on Morning Light promo unfortunately none trailer on Shopaholic included.

Coming soon to the cinema the kids favourite movie franchise Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. This is the 3rd movie out under the Ice Age line with previously the 1st and 2nd (Ice Age: The Meltdown) pocket more than $1b worldwide and don't forget the sales from the DVD & merchandise too. The budget for those 2 movies out earlier just below $150m and yet to bank in those $ has to be a smashing achievement for film franchise history.

Distribute again by 20th Century Fox continue to deliver same genre for this 3rd movie bring back Manfred, Diego the Sabertooth, Sid and not to forget out favourite Scrat too. With the same $75m production budget as the 2nd movie taken 3 years to release to cinema which I bet still lots of fan waiting for the gang share us thier experience this time.

Continue to bring us the same voice cast of Ray Ramano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo & Queen Latifah with the return of director Carlos Saldanha schedule to release this 1st of July nation wide. On that notes I also can't wait how Simon Pegg that voice over one-eyed Weasel in this sequal. The star acted on Shaun of the Dead and Star Trek (not to mention tons of British movies) perform in animated films. Pegg will voice a character name Buck tag along Mammoth, Sid the sloth & Diego the sabretooth tiger when they fall into the world beneath the ice where the dinosaurs run wild.

Rumors | Johnny Depp as the Riddler new Batman movie?

In the MTV blog today during Johnny Depp promotion of Public Enemies if the is an open door for him to play the Riddler in the coming new Batman film.

"If the opportunity came, I'd definitely juggle it, " he said.

Frank Gorshin who played the Riddler in the 60s-era TV show was great admire to Johnny Depp both character and the actor. Christain Bale, who co-star with Deep in Public Enemies strongly believe Johnny would act well in that role in the Christopher Nolan's future Batman franchise. In other fan sites Eddie Murphy also rumors to be on of the candidate to play the green-suited-baddie and he said in Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien that he would love too.

Anyway its up to Nolan who to choose and lets wait and see.

If you read my post last time I targeted Year One will top the weekend chart. Unfortunately The Proposal top the last weekend chart with >$34m follow by The Hangover (>$26m), Up (>$21m) then Year One (>$20m).

Year One got stoned but The Hangover didn't sober up with sensational 3rd weekend. Up gain more audience with some % contribution come from 3D presentation.

The Proposal with romantic comedy genre released by Buena Vista open in more than 3k theaters US nation wide deliver by far to date biggest opening for the star Sandra Bullock's career also co-star Ryan Reynolds as well. Some polling done on the moviegoers were majority indicated were female, 18 years and older & "couples".

The film directed by Anne Fletcher about a demanding boss proposing marriage to her put-upon assistant to avoid deportation offered several trusty themes to garner audience acceptance. There was the opposite attract angle and the adversarial relationship leading to love as well as humor from the charade and fish-out-of-water situations arising from the characters visiting family in Alaska. It all played to the strengths of the stars as this is the type of picture audiences enjoy seeing Ms Bullock in.

This week much anticipate movie release for this summer i.e. Transformers: Revenge of Fallen (TRoF) a follow up from The Transformers released July 3^rd 2007. Note that the movie released bank in >$708m world wide collection with the production budget of ~$151m. While the US DVD sales alone pocket more than $278m. The 1^st Transformers franchise movie rank 20^th all time US behind Spider-Man 3 & Shred the Third for the 2007 year released.

TRoF reported budget of >$200m target for Box Office potential >$350m but don’t forget the DVD plus the movie merchandise sales around the world.

TRoF directed by Michael Bay still carry the same Action genre which famous for Armageddon (1998), Perl Harbor (2001), Bad Boys II (2003) & 3 more other movies with his movies total gross so far >$1b (average movie >$156m).

21^st June is Father’s day so what movies to watch. So to help the movie followers out there I come one some movies which I think best to watch in DVDs. I categorize The-Best-Movie-Dads & Worst-Movie-Dads ever as the following:

Best Movie Dads:

Chris Gardner (Will Smith): The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)- Why He is a Good Dad?- He may not have the best business sense (what were those contraptions he was selling? But even a bout with homelessness couldn’t hinder his determination to live happy-ly ever after with his son.
Guido Orefice (Roberto Benigni): Life Is Beautiful (1997)- All good dads try to shield their kids from the more painful realities of life. But Guido protects his son both physically and psychologically by turning the Holocaust into a game. Now that takes some parenting skill.
John Quincy Archibald (Denzel Washington): John Q. (2002)- Because if you don’t operate on his dying son, he will take your hospital’s emergency room hostage, and he will put a hurting on anybody who gets in his way. And because he’s Denzel Washington.
Others to watch Daniel Hiullard (Robin Williams) in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Jim’s Dad (Eugene Levy) in American Pie & Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter Years 1-5 .

Worst Movie Dads:

Darth Vader (James Earl Jones): Star Wars Trilogy- Why He’s a Bad Dad?- The Dark Side’s #1 fan is so self-involved he doesn’t even realize he has kids until “Empire”—and then what does he do when Luke refuses to join hin? He chops off his hand with a lightsaber and tries to kill him. Well, at least he didn’t lock him in a room with Jar Jar.
Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis): There Will Be Blood (2007)- Even after using his adopted son as a business prop, accidentally making him deaf and sending him away alone. Plainview seems to case about the kid until he throws him out with the mocking insult “You’re a bastard from a basket.” Dude, that’s milkshake-cold.
Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta): The Simpsons Movie (2007)- We already had over 400 episodes’ worth of proof that Homer was an irresponsible, immature, alcoholic father before the movie hit. Then he goes and pollutes Springfield so badly the entire town (people included) is locked in a biodome.
Others to watch Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe) in Spider-Man Trilogy, Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) in The Godfather (1972) & Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) in Liar Liar (1997).

Ghostbusters (Blu-ray) & Friday the 13^th: Extended Killer Cut, Part2, Part3 (Blu-ray) out this week.

Ghostbusters movie released back in 1984 gross >$234m now in Blu-ray format starring Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd , Sigourney Weaver , Harold Ramis & Rick Moranis. The movie is about a group of quirky scientists form a team that hunts down ghosts in New York City. An 80s phenomenon and classic comedy, with Bill Murray upstaging everything in his path (including a huge marshmallow). Ivan Reitman nails the mix of humor and action perfectly, the lovely Sigourney Weaver holds her own against a cast at the top of their game (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis). What extra in this version are the cast and crew commentary and the "Slime Time" picture-in-picture option. However, one of the main reasons this Blu-ray exists is to promote the new Ghostbusters video game, and they don't let you forget it by including a bunch of either round-about or straight-forward featurettes.

Friday the 13th is about a deformed killer who drowned at summer camp as a child due to negligence stalks the woods as an adult mutilating drug-fueled and sex-crazed teenagers. Jason is definitely born again, this time as a nimble hunter (he can use a bow and arrow!) rather than a lethargic demon wandering the woods in slo-mo; It has all the necessary gore, nudity, and startling kills to make it the ideal slasher flick; if you liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot then you'll love it. The Blu-ray exclusives offer a fun picture-in-picture "Terror Trivia Track" and a featurette where the cast and crew recall their favorite Friday the 13th moments ("Hacking Back/Slashing Forward). There's also a featurette on remaking Jason ("The Rebirth of Jason Vorhees for a New Moviegoing Era"), some deleted/extended scenes, a countdown of the seven best kills, and a digital copy.

The Proposal (Romantic Comedy), Year One (Adventure Comedy), Dead Snow & Whatever Works ready for show this coming Friday.

As for me if 1 movie to choose for this week visit to the theater I would go for the adventure comedy starring Jack Black & Michael Cera: Year One.

Synopsis of the movie taken from the official website is about two men wander through early civilization in biblical times. In the film the main characters Black and Cera play a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers. After being banished from their village they embark on this epic journey that eventually leads them to the city of Sodom. Written and directed by Harold Ramis, Year One also boasts with tons of cameos appearances from David Cross, Paul Rudd, Olivia Wilde, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Oliver Platt, Hank Azaria, Vinnie Jones, Juno Temple and Ramis himself. Produced by Ramis and Judd Apatow after the former appeared in the latter's "Knocked Up." Oliver Platt, Olivia Wilde, Vinnie Jones, David Cross, and "Superbad's" Christopher Mintz-Plasse co-star in the Columbia Pictures production.

Folks from various website get the opportunity to visit the films set back 2008 kinda like the movie and think it will totally entertain. The movie was filming in Shreveport, Louisiana last summer which had had become its own mini Hollywood thanks to fabulous tax incentives, and a number of different movies were shooting there. This 1 & ½ hours movie rated as PG-13 crude and sexual content throughout, brief strong language and comic violence surely some folks might not get the jokes in the movie but all Jack Black fans will not missed it. So any 1st timer out there plans to see Jack Black in action need to keep and open mind.

Wednesday| The Hangover, UP & Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

The Hangover (Genres: Comedy) opened 2 weeks already and total cumulative gross so far >$100m and weekend gross still strong with >$32m collection. Follow closely with UP (Genres: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Kids/Family and Animation) which open 3 weeks now weekend gross >$30m and total cumulative gross after those week >$180m. Last week opener The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (Genres: Action/Adventure, Thriller, Crime/Gangster, Adaptation and Remake) opened with weekend gross of >$23m should be in the list too.

There you go my suggestion list to watch before Jun 19. Note that The Proposal and Year One opened for showing. Much anticipate Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will open on the June 26 so if you want to save money before the big movie of the 2009 summer wait for 10 more days without visit the theater or start torrent download movies (click here) if you missed some movies last time. Other option does buy some DVD for viewing in your on comfort home.

I bet lots of bloke went to watch Wanted last time purely coz Jolie in the movie right? I did… hehehe…. Honestly the picture of Jolie back tattoo still haunted us till today. Jolie never fails to please us man and the woman too if you know what I mean. Wink2...

So back to popular demand the sequel reportedly has around $150 million budget with all Russian crew involved in all aspect of production. Yes!!! From Russia with Love… For all Wanted followers Timur Bekmambetov is Russian biggest filmmaker.

Speaking to a Russian newsite RIA Novosti, Fox (Jolie) will be resurrecting despite a bullet lodged in her brain at the end of the 1st film. No further information yet how Jolie to return (new role or just simply raise from the dead) still TBD. Same faith on “The Exterminator” played by Konstantin Khabensky which huge star back in Russia. The movie set to film in Russia (off cause), India and America too. No final title yet to be confirms for this sequel but they will start preparation for the film in July late autumn or winter.

Wanted is a 2008 action film which is very loosely based on the comic book miniseries of the same name by Mark Millar. The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Thomas Kretschmann, Terence Stamp, Angelina Jolie and Konstantin Khabensky.
