It’s time! As promised here are the banners for the Fall Writing Challenge . I hope you all have your writing caps on and your muses are chomping at the bit.

The deadline for the submission of the stories will be September 29, 2014 at 11:59 pm.

THE CHALLENGE

2. If you find yourself inspired, then write a story! First time authors are most welcome and encouraged. It’s as simple as that! Your story can be set within the “universe” depicted in the banner—or it could be a crossover.

3. Stories can be canon, A/U, all human, etc.

3. The story should be a one-shot (but you can certainly extend it later). There are no limitations upon length, though it should have a minimum of 500 words.

4. While you don’t have to use beta, be sure to submit carefully edited work. If you do use a Beta please include their name when you submit your story.

5. Submit your stories to me via email before Sept 29 at 11:59 p.m.

I want to let everyone know that the banners for the next Writing Challenge will be revealed on September 15, 2014. The deadline for the submission of the stories will be September 29, 2014 at 11:59 pm.

In my opinion our beloved Viking got the short end of things this last season so, I have spotlighted him and all three banners will have Eric in them, it will be up to you, the author, if Sookie is in them as well.

Adopt Me Is Back

As some of you know by now … I have been freed from my sling and have started making banners again.

To celebrate the return of the Adopt Me program I did a ‘what if’ type of banner. Now while I was out of commission I got several emails asking I would be returning and if so some of them had a request. I think the request was very reasonable so I have made an adoption of my own. here it is;

Please feel free to ask to adopt any banner that you think will fit your story or that inspires you to write a story but, if you already have a banner for your story please don’t ask for another one so that someone else who doesn’t have a banner may have the opportunity to get one.

May I Have The Envelope Please

Well you have all spoken and made your choices clear.

From my end of things this was quite an exciting race to the finish. I wasn’t kidding when I said every vote counts … in two categories the winning story won by a single vote.

On the site the stories are now all identified by the number and author so you can see if some of your guesses were correct.

I know, I know you all want to know who won so I’ll just step aside and let you get to the good stuff.

As I read all the comments that came in for every story one reviewer stood out as a shining light. I found myself dropping everything to go read her reviews when they came in, she took the time to make sure that the authors knew how much she enjoyed their stories ….. here’s an example of her reviews:

I’ve never read Twilight or seen the movies, so I had no preconceived notions except I thought Edward Cullen was a vampire. My lack of knowledge didn’t matter, tho. Your story was easy to follow and I was intrigued by Lady Swan. It sounds like her daughter WANTS to become her stepbrother’s second wife but Lady Swan knows that’s not what’s best for her. That must be why Lord Cullen will have to drug her when he rescues her. You’ve captured my interest and I’d love to know what happens next. Thanks for giving me a glimpse outside my own fandom.

This was exactly what I hoped would happen … that some of the readers would enjoy stepping out of their fandom.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?

I have been writing for a little over 2 years, maybe 3 off and on (took an unexpected 8 month hiatus). I was inspired by reading all the awesome fanfic I found and wanting a bit of fluff and distraction for myself. I wanted a chance to steer things where I wanted them to go, story and character-wise. I had always written short stories and poetry here and there, but never posted it anywhere more than a few people could read it. I thought I would post it and get some real critique, other than the only nice things friends and family are obligated to say :)

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?

I would love to say I'm organized and professional enough to plan it but...nope! I completely wing it. Some general ideas, I do plan, but I let my mood and the previous chapter lead me.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?

Hmm...Eric, Pam, Claudine and Bill, in the books. Eric, Pam, Godric, Jessica, Jason, Lafayette, Terry and Andy Bellefleure on the show. Isn't that funny-as much as I get so mad at the show for having so many side stories and characters, I really like a lot of them.

4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read? Gosh, I can't remember exactly-I think it was Eric, by DeeDee. Or else, Pour Some Sugar on Me, by Bon Temps Baby. Yeah, talk about setting the bar a little high, right? Epic fanfic authors. Absolutely.

5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?

Would you like a wake up call for you and your husband, Mrs. Skarsgard?

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?

I used to have a job that required a lot of creativity. But my current job, though I really like it, requires little, to no, creativity so I was really looking for some way to express myself. I had taken a creative writing course over 20 years ago in college, but my teacher and I didn't see eye-to-eye. She felt anything that wasn't over dramatized slice of life wasn't “pure” enough so when I pulled in supernatural, fantastic or science fiction elements she objected. That soured me to writing for a long time. So I have only really tried writing again for about 4 years. I was having a hard time with characterization, writing in different voices, so I decided to try to write to characters I knew and others were familiar with. That way I could see if I was successful.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?

I usually have a rough outline, and some solid scenes in mind and write around them. However, I have had stories take on a life of their own and grow beyond what I had envisioned.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?

I really like Eric (which is probably obvious) from both the books and the show. He enjoys being a vampire and doesn't moan over his lot in unlife. He also seems to have more confidence in Sookie and doesn't try to stand in her way.

I really like Lafayette in the show and I'm glad that he wasn't killed off. I haven't written much for him though because I like the world in the books better, for the most part, than that in Alan Ball's fan fiction.

4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?

I don't remember the title, or the author, I know I'm a terrible person. But it was a Spike/Buffy story, not much plot, just lemons.

5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?

This is probably not what you were thinking but...

Mom, do you know how to make/can you help me make this totally impossible XYZ for a school project/Halloween costume?

My answer:
Oh dear honey no, thank god!

So far I have made: cyberman, dalek, Edward scissorhand costumes, a cake with a volcano that erupts, a 4-foot tall “man-eating plant” that moved and the piece de resistance a 5-foot long jaguar, that will actually support my son. The conversation usually goes something like this:

“Mom, I have to make a model or a diorama about something in the rainforest for school (2^nd grade), can you help me?”

“Sure honey, what do you want to make?”

“A model of a jaguar.”

Me, imagining using clay. “That shouldn't be too hard.”

“Can it be life-size?”

Quickly thinking, okay paper mache, we can do it. “Well, that will take longer, and be more work for you, but yes, we can make it life-size.”

“And I want to be able to ride on it.”

“Really?!?” But the idea for a PVC frame under chicken wire, covered in paper mache coalesces in my head, which hits the table in defeat. “Yes.” I sigh, “We can do that.”

So the question I would love to be asked is “Can we make this?” and have the answer truthfully be no. Because if my kids ask if we can make it and I can figure it out, we do it. Why? Because I can't teach them to stand up to a challenge, if I don't.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
This is so boring but I have no idea what inspired me to write. I just remember realizing at some point that there were stories developing in my head that involved my favourite characters. It was probably a year later that it finally clicked that I could write them down, and then could even post them for other people to see. That was four years ago—which means I was sixteen—and I’m saying that in defense of my earlier writing, which I have yet to reread for fear of it being terrible.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
It really depends on the story. My earlier stuff was more of the latter, but eventually I figured out that it made things difficult especially since I would always think up new subplots or foreshadowing or plot-points after I’d posted the chapter. I’ve now gotten to the point where I write the story until it’s at least fifty or so pages on Word before I even think of posting the first chapter, so I usually have a pretty good idea of how things are going to go.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Oh man, that’s a tough one. I like specific things about all the characters, I think. Like a lot of other people, I love Eric and Pam, and their bromantic relationship specifically. I also love Lafayette and his sass, and how hilariously dumb Jason is. On TB specifically, I adored Jesus and his adorableness all around.

4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
I needed to dig through my Fave Stories for this one, because I honestly don’t even remember. It was either Let Love In by Terri Botta, or Left For Dead by Malanna, both in early 2009. Both stories have such a rich storyline, chock full of mythology, and they were right up my alley before I even figured out how much I love the stuff. I remember loving the stories so much that it actually inspired me to write my own stuff down and to do things with them, beyond just keeping them to myself.
I also learned a lot of sexy things from Let Love In.

5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Oooh! Hmm. It would be cool—thought admittedly a bit narcissistic—to be asked about how much of myself I put into my characters, and how many aspects of my life bleed into the stories.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?

I've been writing fanfiction since early 2010. I've only ever written SVM or True Blood fanfic. I got into True Blood, then read all the books, and wanted more! I loved them; the characters, the world, everything. I think we were up to Dead and Gone by that point. So much happened in that book and the way it ended, I don't know, I just couldn't wait to know more! I think I searched online for some clues as to how the plot of the next book might develop, and somehow that search led me to ffnet. I read through a few stories and I was hooked. I thought I'd give it a go myself, since I had all these ideas on what I wanted to see happen to these characters, and it just went from there.

I started writing Dead or Alive sort of obsessively, like I'd spend hours and hours just writing and writing and staying up until the early hours typing away. It was a bit of a shock to me, really, I didn't realise I had it in me! Getting feedback from the readers was brilliant, and it just spurred me on. I finished that first story pretty quickly, posting a chapter every few days.

Maybe a third of the way through Stacey contacted me and asked if I wanted a Beta to help me out. I was like 'beta?' I was a bit oblivious to the whole thing. But I said, 'great!' and she has been really awesome. Because I'm from England I was always using English spelling when I first started out, even though I was trying to stay true to the books and the style and everything. I was also making quite a few mistakes, grammatical and whatnot! I've definitely got better since she started helping me! I can't even tell you how awesome Stacey's been. God bless the Betas!

I don't write as much as I used to, maybe it's lack or inspiration or time or something. I do still have spurts where I'll write a lot, and then the enthusiasm will disappear. Beginning a new multi-chapter fic just seems like a mountain I can't climb anymore (my knees hurt, it's a joint problem), but I still write one shots reasonably regularly, usually posting them on my tumblr blog. Maybe when the last SVM book is published It'll set the flame burning again. I'm almost hoping not, though, since I hope everything is pretty much tied up and they live happily ever after and whatnot by the end of the series!

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?

I'd love to say I had it all planned out but I never have, I just make it up as I go along. That's the joy of fanfiction, right?!

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?

Eric is my favourite character, I love Sookie too, show and book version (mainly book). Pam is a book fave but I'm not quite as keen on TB Pam. I love Godric and Lafayette on the show, and I like book and show Sam and Jason.

In terms of writing, my favourite characters to write are book Eric, Sookie and Pam.

4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?

I have a feeling it was Let Love In by Terri Botta. This seems to be the same for a lot of people, I think! I don't know how or why that might be. I'm pretty sure everyone has already read it, but if you haven't, find it!

5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?

If you were going to do a karaoke duet with any True Blood cast member who would it be and what song would you choose?

I'd sing Islands in the Stream with Chris Bauer.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
When I began reading the SVM stories I had no idea how many sites were on the internet for fanfic, in fact I wasn’t aware a sites like that existed. I began fantasizing in my head “What if” stories just as many authors had come up with their own version of what would’ve happened. At first I was hesitant to write, because English is not my first language and I’m not very good in the grammar department. I was shocked when I saw how many people liked one of my stories, even with all the mistakes that still has. Still I was very shocked and so that encourage me to keep writing. I’m trying to improve my writing skills by going to school and also I have learned a lot from the wonderful Betas that had helped me with my stories along the way.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
Most of the time I don’t have the end figured it out, just parts of the story. I might have the beginning and middle, but the end has never been part of my first thought process. Sometimes I even surprise myself, like with Vampire Bait; I had not figured out the end until I wrote it.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
SVM, Amelia: she is very smart, wicked and has a fun personality to play with. There is so much to her character that is left unsaid, so it is easy to make up story lines for her.
TB, Godric: He is very unlike other vampires and so caring, it is hard not to not like him.
Both, Pam: She is just so fun and I love how she teases Eric and Sookie in the books. I like her quotes. I can’t still forget she wore Wal-mart sweat pants, that was hilarious. Lol.
Both, Eric: Who doesn’t like him, one would have to be blind not to…oh, yeah in True Blood he is so hot. I loved the scene in season three where he tells Russell that he has finally found a true leader. Is one of my favorite quotes from him, especially because Russell bought it. In the books I like the hidden conversations between him and Bill that Sookie can never figure out.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
The lust trilogy series by EricFancier. In fact that is how I found the fanfiction site. I was reading the stories on True Blood Paint Wiki. One of the forums mentioned where the stories where posted and that’s how I found this wonderful world.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Hmmm, this one is hard. I guess one my husband asks me all the time, how do you come up with this stuff? Answer: I have no idea, seriously. Sometimes due to my health I’m so medicated (like today) I have no idea where my ideas pop from, but it helps me relieve the stress from my everyday life. I love writing and that is why I’m trying to improve my English skills, so that I can do it better.
Thank you for choosing Vampire Bait, I’m truly honored. I cried when I read the email (and no I was not under medications that day).

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing stories on and off since I was a child, be it for fun or school work. I started writing fan fiction in 2007. I saw the first X-Men film and fell in love with the characters. It would have been around the same time I got my first computer and I found fan fiction. I had so many different ideas swimming around in my head and I just decided to start writing them. 2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I have the basic ending planned out for all my stories, and I do try to plot them out, but honestly I’m horrible for following my own plans. There are certain things in my stories that I planned from the beginning, but for the most part I make it up as I go along. Which can be both a good and bad thing if I’m truthful. The only thing I’m 100% sure of when I start a new fic, is whether or not it’s going to have a happy ending or not.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Sookie. I know a lot of people find her childish and bratty, but given the life she leads who can really blame her? Sookie has a strength that is often overlooked because it’s not a physical strength. She’s stronger that a lot of the other characters. She has morals and conviction of character that’s not often seen in female leads. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believes is right. Is she always right? No. But who is?
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Oh God, let me think. I think it was Hamburger Hill by FarDareisMai2. I remember I started reading SVM fan fiction around the time they were doing the Summer of 69 contest. I think that was the first one I read.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
The fanfiction writers and community are responsible for inspiring me to give writing a chance. I’d never done any writing except for my journals and what was required in college and graduate school, but that was never very creative work. I started playing around with this story, never expecting to post it, about a year before I did finally start posting.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I have a firm ending for my story. Actually, I had an original ending, many chapters ago, but realized with the help of my readers that there was much more I needed to tie up. So now I’m working toward another firm ending. As for everything in the middle…I have important details I need to cover in each chapter, but the rest fills itself in as I go along.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Charlaine Harris did a beautiful job of creating her characters. I personally love characters who have the most potential for growth and malleability to their stories. Sookie and Eric are perfect examples. Eric’s character is exciting to play with because his long history offers infinite possibilities and he is so dynamic with the combination of hard and soft that he presents. Sookie is a more static character in her personality, but CH left enough unexplained about her to give us a lot to dream about on our own. I love the flaws in her that make her less than perfect and more like us. If I had to choose a third character as a favorite, it would be Niall, again for the many ways he can be manipulated while sticking to the original snapshot CH gave to us.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
My kindle tells me that the first story I transferred from FF was ‘Death Is The Road To Awe’ by Drumbo, a crossover of Twilight and SVM. It’s unfinished, but I know I enjoyed what there was of it. My memory tells me it was Terri Botta’s ‘Let Love In.’
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
I’m quite shy about discussing my writing with people. I’ve only recently begun to tell friends that my hobby is creative writing, so I haven’t been asked a lot of questions yet. That has a lot to do with my developing confidence as a new writer.
I guess I’d love to be asked a question that would challenge me to defend the growth of a character or the line of a plot so I’d be forced to think everything through and make sure I was on the right track.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?

I wrote my first one shot in July 2010. I suppose my main inspiration was other SVM/TB Fan Fiction. I didn't realise it existed before I stumbled across a story, when I worked out it was just 'normal' people writing then I began think about writing my own.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?

With all my completed stories I have known exactly what the ending will be, but only had a vague plan for getting there. I do tend to meander a bit, especially with Viking's Pet. That was my first story and I had no idea how long it would take me to get where I was going, or how long it would take me to actually write it.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?

Eric is the obvious answer, so I will give Alcide a mention just to try and be different!
He was one of the first characters I read about before I saw the True Blood version, but Joe Manganiello was just how I pictured Alcide, except that he was even bigger!
In SVM I think Maria-Star was the love of his life, and he lost her. Now all he has to concentrate on is his pack, which is making him a bit of a mess! I really hope he gets a Happy Ever After by the end of the books.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
I remember being stunned by an explicit one-shot, that had Eric and Pam in Fangtasia's basement, but I don't remember the title. All I could think was “Do people really put this on the internet where everyone can read it?”
After that I spent whole weekends reading Fics like Late, Eric and Pour Some Sugar On Me. I couldn't get enough of them!

5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?

I'm a review junkie, but don't get many questions.
What I really want is for Season 4 Eric to ask me “Would you like to be mine?” and I'd answer “Hell, yes!”

The Interview 1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I was very impatient to find out what happened next after book 10. I was surfing the web one night and stumbled upon a chat mentioning SVM fanfiction. I have read hundreds of stories since then, and some of them were so good I would stay up till dawn, engrossed into reading. The love for Sookie, enthusiasm, and craftsmanship those stories possessed gave me a nudge in the direction I wanted to see our favorite couple move on. I had an idea, and I started working on a one shot, and it turned into a Convoluted Conversation - Chapter One of Put Me First. I have been writing on and off for over two years. Put Me First is now complete, and a sequel is in progress.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?Somewhere along Ch 10 of Put Me First my plan for the story was finalized. I knew where I was taking the characters and what the end game would be. I may take different paths to get there, detours, and side-stories, but the end result is set in my mind. The most important thing for me is to make sure the main characters are not OOC and that their growth and development are natural and make sense to the reader.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why? Of course Sookie and Eric. She is such an amazing woman, how can we not love her? Strong, devoted, loyal, hardworking - Eric said it best (and that's why he is my favorite character, too.)
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Pour Some Sugar on Me by BonTempsBaby. I could see from chapter to chapter the progress the writer was making, and it was mind-blowing. The story felt real to me, and although I may not agree with some of the changed the author incorporated into Sookie's and Eric's characters, I enjoyed her version of SVM very much. No, I don't, but I find many similarities in how she and I look at the world around us. The real challenge was to be able to shift between Sookie's POV and Eric's POV in Put Me First without compromising the wholesomeness of each. I had to put myself into their shoes, forbid myself to feel or think anything that the character wouldn't, and become them in my mind. At times, the creative process took me to very dark places, making me relive painful events in my own past. But I also learned to see and appreciate opposing points of view better, in fanfiction and in RL as well. I don't have to condone or accept certain things, but I understand the reasons behind them, and it helps me find ways to deal with difficult situations.

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
Hmm, I started writing in 2011… I only started reading recreationally in 2009. I had better things to do before I read the SVM books – and then the BDB books (best books ever!) As for what inspired me, it was really just one of my friends begging me to write an Eric POV for her since I knew the characters better than her. One sentence led to another and then boom… a bunch of stories were written. Now it’s an addiction!
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I am great at starting stories and terrible at finishing them! I try to get a good flow, but I tend to go off course and then I lose the end… sometimes it works out, sometimes not. I’ve never started a multi-chap with an end in sight.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Hands down Eric Northman. I love the character Charlaine created even though I steal him and change things about him, but he is everything you want. He’s funny and mysterious and crazy sexy – for a fictional character.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Let Love In… I can’t even remember how I found it, I just remember I NEEDED some SVM to read and I found LLI and I was addicted!
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Does being asked on a date by Alexander Skarsgård count? I would certainly say yes! Honestly, I have no idea.
