Fantasy Football Strategy - Team is set, Now What?

That's right football fanatics, the NFL Season starts in two days. So in relation to your fantasy football team, you need really only have about a day and a half to play your Fantasy Football Strategy and set your roster for the first game of the week. If you plan on playing anyone on your roster from either Indianapolis or New Orleans, make sure you have them in their starting spot.

So let's talk about planning your starting lineup. Most of the time, you want to put the best player possible from your roster at each of the positions required for a full lineup. But let's get a little deeper in thought and really maximize the roster a bit.

If your starting stud Running Back is playing a Top Tier rush defense, you might need to consider what other match-ups you may have on your roster. For instance, L.T in San Diego will have a pretty good year barring injury. However, in Week 1 he is up against the Bears Defense which has been a top 5 ranked "D" the past 2 years.
If we look deep on our own depth chart, maybe we see that we have Laurence Maroney, who if healthy, could rack up quite a bit of yards against a suspect Jets front line. There are a few other options out there with other backs and other poor run defenses, but hopefully you see the thought process and my thinking.

I recommend that you do this same exercise with each player on your roster. Personally, I have my 2 fantasy research book on my desk at all times so that I can easily flip to the data I want or need. Clicking online is great, but the books I use are just terrific for allowing me to work in an offline environment and allows me to think without distractions.

So what if you don't have time to review all this data and you want a simple method for setting yourself up to win each week?

I would recommend you grab this handy access to software. Basically the card gets you membership to a website that is just chalk full of stats and info. It will assist you in setting your roster in record time and stays up to date through multiple media feed so that nothing gets lost in the flood of data. My brother used this with great success last year winning 2 of 3 leagues he was in. It was great for him because of his work schedule, he did not have the extra time to put in to review all week long. He logged in, checked on a few things, got the recommendation and set his roster. Ultimately he won over $375.00 last season and only invested the 20 bucks for the software and spent by his estimation about 30-40 minutes a week on Fantasy Football. The only league he could not win was the 9 year Veteran League that I won this past year with the little brother in Third Place.

Having a good Fantasy Football Strategy starts with your ability to process and utilize information correctly. If you rely on the information provided from your league's service provider or from one of the talking heads on TV, then you likely are wasting a bit of time each week.

If there is one thing that I have learned over the years, it's that information management is key to your success. Way back in the early days of Fantasy Football, the relied upon source was an Excel spreadsheet and the stats page from USA Today on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Now with the industry growing to nearly 40 million fantasy players, there is a ton of data floating around out there. My goal here is to show you how to process that data quickly and free up your time a bit more by making your time spent on fantasy sports more productive.

I will begin to outline the tools that we will use during the season should you choose to follow along with me this season. Oh, that brings me to another point, make sure you subscribe with your email address so that you can get updates and alerts to new info. Here in the pre-season, I have been given access to some awesome deals and free reports that I have been sending along to folks on my email list. Often times, they are available for a short time, so you certainly do not want to miss out.

The first thing that I recommend you do as your action point for today is to set up a Blog Reader account such as Bloglines. Once you get that set up and running you can add blogs and RSS feeds from sites or blogs that you feel have good information. Why a blog reader? Blog readers organize information and allow you to peruse the title and first few sentences of a post or article which saves time because you are only going to click on links that have a data use you are interested in. I will be posting a short video on how to use bloglines this week, so be on the look out for that.

Moving on to the second action point, it will be helpful to you to begin to put your fantasy roster's into an Excel Spread Sheet. You simply need to list each player, their position, the team they play on and their bye week to start with. Now I know that you are a serious player if you have read down this far, so make sure you use the worksheet tabs at the bottom to add the different teams from different leagues. There will also be a video added to show you how to set up the Excel Roster correctly.
