Cano is a top 5 option

When looking at your lineups after your yearly draft may owners scratch their head with what they are going to do at Second Base. There is not a long line of guys that you plug into your lineup and not worry if they will produce or not. Outside of Robinson Cano and Dustin Pedroia there are questions surrounding almost every option. Brandon Phillips is mad about his contract. Ian Kinsler has had ankle problems, which he has supposedly had fixed with some kind of blood platelet injection. Rickie Weeks has had ankle problems of his own. The list of questions goes on and on, which is why we feel the value of Cano and Pedroia is so high is this years draft. Sure they will not produce like the big time sluggers at first base, third base or outfield but those positions are much deeper in talent. We have no issue with Cano going in the top 5 or Pedroia in the top 10. For example if you are to grab Cano at 2 or 3 and then come back around with Teixeira in round two you are much better off than with a combo of Adrian Gonzales and Rickie Weeks or Dan Uggla. Again that is just my opinion and you know what they same about those. The fact does remain though that getting a Second Baseman that will contribute consistent numbers in 2012 is not an easy task.

Prince and Miguel in Motown......WOW

As we get closer and closer to our favorite time of the year in Spring training we are going to focus today on the first base position. First base is general one of your lynch pin offensive potitions on any championship fantasy baseball roster. We feel this years crop is 10 deep with legit MASHERS. After that there is a definite drop off. In that 10 there is also a clear top 5 of Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder and Joey Votto. Those guys are super studs that will most certainly be gone mid way through your second round. Our second 5 of Paul Konerko, Mike Napoli, Mark Teixera, Eric Hosmer, and Carlos Santana contains some old dogs and a couple young guns. Father time will catch up to Konerko someday but we don't think it will be this year. Mike Napoli is an interesting option, coming off an amazing season and having dual position eligibility. Teixera will continue to put up HRs, and RBIs in that powerful Yankee lineup. We absolutely love Eric Hosmer this season, and think he will only build on his fantastic rookie season. To round out the top 10 we bring you Carlos Santana. Carlos moving to first base is the best thing that could have happened to the young slugger. We love his increase power late in the season, with 12 bombs over his final 2 months. Sky is the limit for the sweet swinging Santana.

Our advice is to get one of the above mentioned top 10. Waiting on this position and trying to go the sleeper rout is a risky proposition in our opinion. Let the other guys pin their hopes on the likes of Mark Reynolds, Ryan Howard, or Lance Berkman.

The BIG GAME

We feel Eli will win this "SUPER" rematch

So it is the eve of the Big dance. You are probably busy at work preparing your spreads to gorge your faces while you wait to see if Ferris Bueller really does need another day off(I know I will be). Well we wanted to throw out a prediction and run down of the game for your reading pleasure.

The Patriots will win if:
It is no secret that the Pats have one of the greatest QBs ever to lace up the cleats in Tom Brady so of course he is a big key to victory but he WON'T Be the reason the Patriots win tomorrow. The reason they win will be because of a big Defensive effort. They need Big Vince Wilfork to be a major force in the middle. He will need to disrupt the pocket and get major push to blow up the running game. Another huge key will the Pats secondary. They need to slow somewhat Hakeem Nicks and company. Kyle Arrington and Devin McCourty don't need to be lockdown but they do need tight to the line and physical with Nicks and Cruz. Another huge key will be Wes Welker. With Gronk injured Brady will need Welker to be open early and often. Finally the last key will be the Pats being able to generate any running game. Green-Ellis, and Woodhead will need to run as hard as they ever had and gain tough yards. If all of the above come to fruition we see the Pats hoisting the Lombardi over their heads.

The Giants will win if:
With the Giant's improbable run to championship game we have learned a few things. Eli Manning is an Elite Quarterback, and the Giants have a relentless defensive line, oh and Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are pretty good too. The keys to a Giant victory will be the same as when they beat the defending champ Packers, GET TO THE QB. They need to get in Brady's face, hit him, make him throw before he wants to. If they knock Brady around they are going to be looking good in our opinion. The second key will be Manning continuing his elite play. With weapons like Cruz, Nicks, and Manningham we think this shouldn't be an issue, especially verse the Pats Piss Poor secondary.

Our prediction:
We feel our second scenario will be what happens tomorrow. Never have we seen such a terrible defense win it all. Sure when a team has Tom Brady they are going to have a great chance but we don't think tomorrow will be Pretty Boy Tom's day. Our prediction is 24 to 14 Giants

Prince Fielder to the Tigers.....

When the news broke today about Prince Fielder's mega contract my first thought was TO WHERE? I had no inkling that the Tigers were players in the Fielder derby. Teams like Seattle and Texas were the only names I had heard as serious players. When Victor Martinez went down with a knee injury a few weeks back I wondered how the Tigers would ever replace that bat. Well they did and in a MAJOR way. I absolutely love this signing for two reasons. For one as I had mentioned it replaces the huge loss of Martinez(who could possibly be back late in the season). Secondly it adds some added swagger and intimidation to the middle of the Tigers lineup. Martinez was a good all around hitter but he didn't strike fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers like Prince will soon be doing in Motown. I would argue that Fielder/Cabrera duo is every bit as good as the Fielder/Braun duo was in Milwaukee. Needless to say Detroit became a favorite to win not only their division but the whole damn thing. I give them credit for making this bold move. I don't have much to say about fantasy implications since Fielder is in just as good a situation as he was last year.

Fantasy Football Playoff pools

So the NFL regular season has come and gone. Doesn’t it just seem like yesterday we were putting together cheat sheets in preparation for upcoming league drafts. Wow time flies, but as you are in the midst of cashing in on your league championship winnings, we are sure you are yearning for more. Well get into a fantasy playoff pool people! What you ask? Come on all you need to do is nose around your company water cooler to find some guy running one of these pools. What they consist of generally is you submitting a roster of players from the current playoff teams. While you generally get to pick a list of NFL elite players there is some strategy to it, which we will discuss below in a few helpful steps.

STEP 1 Choose players on favored teams:

This step seems self-explanatory but there are definitely going to be those out there that don’t take this into account. Players like Calvin Johnson and Mathew Stafford may seem too good to pass up, but when you realize it is likely they will lose to the Saints and only get one game in it makes them much less tantalizing.

STEP 2 Choose QBs on teams that will most likely go deep in the playoffs

Another obvious point but there will be people that take guys like Matt Ryan who likely will be sitting on the sidelines after wildcard weekend.

STEP 3 Go off the board with your picks

We all are going to take Rodgers, Brees and Brady but where you will really win this you’re behind the scenes guys like Ahmed Bradshaw and Darren Sproles.

All in all just like Fantasy football does to the regular season it makes the playoffs just that much better. Especially for those like myself who are unlucky enough to root for a hopeless NFL franchise like the Bills.

The excitement is in the air and we wanted to start this party off right by giving you the Thursday night rankings in the matchup between the Stillers and Browns. We don’t anticipate this being much of a game but we do know there are some players in this game that are intrical to many team’s playoff lives. Rashard Mendenhaul is a FANTASY BOYZ play of the week in this matchup with that piece of swiss cheese the Browns call a run defense. We also think that Big Ben will work in some bombs to our boy Mike Wallace as well. When looking at the Browns in this one we say YUCKKKKK. No one on the Browns is worthy of a playoff start in our most expert of opinions. Please steer clear and good luck tonight!!!

Golden Tate - With Sidney Rice out for the year Tate was able to top 45 yards and score a TD last week. While Tavaris Jackson bores the shit out of us Tate could be valuable in very large leagues.

Smith is a starter in Buffalo

TJ Yates - Yates is currently the starting QB for an offense with as many weapons as almost any other in the NFL. If you were a Schaub owner and are in dire straights he is worth a look.

Jake Delhomme - Delhomme was signed today by the Texans and we would not be surprised at all to see Delhomme starting before years end. Again if you are in dire straights at your backup QB situation take a shot

Marion Barber - With Cutler out the Bears are going to run the shit out of the ball. Barber who has always been a TD Vulture had 10 carries for 63 yards. Decent numbers to find on your waiver wire this time of the year

Donald Brown - With Addai injured pretty much every week it appears Brown has assumed the lead back role in Indy. He isn't going to light it up but 75 and a TD is not out of the question.

John Kuhn - Kuhn doesn't accumulate any yardage totals but does score a TD every now and again

Johnny Knox - Knox had done little on the season until Sunday's 100 yard and a TD game. It appears he may have rapport with Hanie and is someone to look at when bolstering your playoff roster

Riley Cooper - Cooper was buried on the Eagles depth chart until Vince Young took the reigns at QB. With Young Cooper has flourished with over 170 yards in 2 games. With Young looking like he will start again this week Cooper is a sneaky Flex PPR play.

Gregg Little - Little scored his first TD of the season Sunday and is clearly the Top option at WR in Cleveland. Solid playoff depth.

Brad Smith - With the Bills decimated by injuries at WR Smith stepped in nicely and appears to be the new #2 in Buffalo. Smith could flourish in Buffalo's quick slant passing game.

Week 12 Waiver Wire Report

Can Matt Leinart save your fantasy season?

Wow what a difference a week makes on the free agent front. With so many injuries to starting caliber players it opens the door for their backup to make a difference on the field and in your fantasy lineups. The injuries have ranged from Jay Cutler, and Matt Schaub being virtually out for the year to Adrian Peterson and Fred Jackson to being possible game time decisions. This is where a season could be made or broken. Stay on top of it readers!!!

Matt Leinart- With Schaub certainly out for the rest of the fantasy football season Leinart is a hot commodity for not only Schaub owners but for teams that are thin at the QB position. Leinart never really panned out in the desert but he was able to get the ball to Boldin and Fitzgerald.

Caleb Hanie- With Cutler also out for at least 6 weeks the Bears will initially turn to Hanie. With no starts under his belt we are unsure if he will produce anything of substance.

Worth an add for Cutler owners who are thin at their backup position

Kyle Orton- With Orton just released from the Broncos word out of Chicago is that the Bears are putting in a claim for their former signal caller. This news is an intriguing development. If you are a Cutler owner we feel like Orton is the guy to get. While Hanie probably gets a start or two while Orton learns the offense we don't feel like he will be the guy long term.

The real guy to add for Cutler owners

Matt Moore- It seems like a late season surge on quarterback is going down. This can't be the same Matt Moore that lead the Carolina Panthers to the top overall pick last year is it? Well Moore had another great Sunday and you could really do worse as an emergency QB.

Worth an add in larger leagues

Kevin Smith- Say hello to the hottest add in Fantasy Football this week. From civilian cloths to absolutely EXPLODING last week Smith is sure to get a bunch of carries until he proves it was a fluke. We don't believe he will continue to put up numbers like last week but certainly is someone we would add to our roster.

Add in all formats

Toby Gerhart- Well AP says that he is playing this week but is he really going to be able to with a high ankle sprain? We doubt it. Add Gerhart if you are an AP owner or need a one week play at running back.

Add for AP owners

CJ Spiller- Fred Jackson sustained a calf injury in the second half of last weeks game and did not return. While we feel that Jackson's injury is less severe and he probably has a better chance to play than Peterson you may want to take precautions just in case. Spiller has been a complete bust thus far in his career but has the ability to bust a long run at any time.

Worth a look for Jackson owners

Joe McKnight- With another injury to a top RB in Shonne Greene McKnight came and produced over 120 yards from scrimmage. With Greene still banged up this week we advocate adding McKnight if you have a need at running back.

Playoff Push Preparation

Hello readers the playoff push is here and it is time to get prepared for your upcoming fantasy playoffs. With the help of Fantasy Boyz Sports we hope that you have already clinched that playoff berth but your work is not done yet. There are still some things you need to take care of to complete your lineup. In the world of Fantasy sports there are wide ranging sets of rules, and you must have a clear understanding what rules pertain to each one of your leagues. Most leagues prohibit free agent pick-ups after the regular season end for example. Below we are going to target a few things you would want to do to get your team in order before the playoffs start.

Make sure to have adequate backups – I can’t say this one enough. There has been many a league I have participated in where a team neglected to back up a QB, kicker, or tight end only to have a guy go down. As I stated above many leagues freeze rosters at the end of the regular season and if you don’t get all your positions backed up you are sure to float a 0 in whatever category that goes down to injury. You don’t want to be the guy in the league who loses because his kicker pulled his nut sack trying to put on a pair of pants.

Don't get cute – Every year it seems I look at the starting lineups for all the playoff matchups and I see guys in starting positions that have no business being there but have a “GREAT MATCHUP”. Listen people don’t overthink yourself. Don’t bench Megatron because he has a top 5 pass defense and Percy Harvin is going up against the league’s worst. Ride the horses that got you to this position!!!

Have Fun - Whatever that means to you. Whether it is trash talking your opponent or inviting them over for a few brews to watch the games remember that Fantasy Football is supposed to be fun. If you made the playoffs you should be happy you have a shot at the title. Don’t flip over your flat screen if you don’t win it all.

I myself will need to re-read the above helpful hints as I set my playoff rosters in the coming weeks. As I stated before HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK!!!

With week 11 on the horizon FANTASY BOYZ SPORTS brings you yet another installment of our weekly waiver wire report. The Wire is as thin as ever this week. Below are a few guys we recommend taking an eye on. Our Top pickup of the week is Harry Douglas who seems to really hit a groove in Hotlanta. Keep in mind our report caters to larger league formats. The leagues we deal with typically don't have top notch known players available.

Rex Grossman- Didn't do much in Sunday's loss to Miami but he was named next weeks starter. If you are in a deep league and in dire need of a QB here is a last resort.

Monitor in the largest of leagues

Lance Ball- With Knowshon Moreno out for the season with a torn ACL Ball moves right into his role in Denver's new RUN EVERY DOWN offense. While Mcgahee is cleared to play this week Ball still should be heavily involved.

Add in larger leagues

Jacquizz Rodgers- While Rodgers hasn't done anything special this season he has gone over 30 yards rushing in 2 straight weeks and seems to be Turner's primary backup.

Monitor in larger leagues, Turner owners consider cuffing him with Rodgers

Philip Tanner- With Felix Jones out for God knows how long Tanner has been a solid backup to the talented Rookie Demarco Murray. Jones has been anything but sturdy in his short career to date. Tanner might be a nice cuff to Murray

Damian Williams - Williams has been off and on our radar throughout the season since Britt went down for the year. He has certainly burst back onto it with Sunday's 100 yard and a TD performance.

Harry Douglas - With Julio Jones out early in the game the leading WR targeted was not Roddy White but none other than Harry Douglas. With Jones seemingly on the verge of getting hurt every week we advise adding Douglas who seems to have a good vibe with Matt Ryan.
