iOS 5 will be unveiled alongside iCloud and OS X 10.7 Lion.

Heres some possible changes that we may see in iOS5..

Better Notifications. According to TechCrunch, Apple is planning on rolling out a “completely revamped” notifications system in iOS 5. Many users, my colleague Kevin C. Tofel included, find the current implementation of iOS notifications to be clunky and annoying. A change in the way those work is a likely target for Apple, since it’s one of the more obvious areas where small changes could represent a big improvement in the way the OS works as a whole.
Widgets. At the same time as it reported new notifications were in the works, TechCrunch also said widgets were planned for iOS 5. No details regarding how they might work were included in the report, but they could look like Apple’s Dashboard widgets for OS X, which provide live updating information at a glance without having to be opened. Android features home screen widgets that work in much the same way, providing at-a-glance weather information, for example.
Nuance Voice Recognition Tech. Makers of Dragonsoft Naturally Speaking and voice recognition technology leader Nuance has been rumored to be in discussions with Apple regarding the licensed use of its tech in Apple products. One reported use of the tech is in iOS 5, where it will supposedly be available for developer use via API. This is probably the least definite feature on this list, but if true, it would make speech-based apps that much more powerful on iOS devices.
Media Stream and Photo Stream. Evidence for new integrated device-wide streaming galleries and media libraries has been found in iOS code, indicating that we might see the features introduced in iOS 5. These could tie in to iCloud, the other big product being unveiled at WWDC.

How to Upgrade iPhone from iOS4 or iOS4.01 to iOS4.1

Assumption:
Pwnage tool will be out soon

Steps:
1. Install PKGBackup. This will help you to backup Cydia Apps.
2. Install SB Organizer. This in combination with PKGBackup will save your Springboard layout.
3. Run PkgBackup to do a backup of your Cydia Apps.
4. Open iTunes, right click your iPhone under devices and select "backup". This will backup your iPhone
5. (Optional) If you do not want to upgrade your baseband, you can use TinyUmbrella in combination with iTunes to restore to 4.1
6. Go on to upgrade to iOS4.1
7. Do a iTunes sync
8. Download, install and Run limera1n
9. Install PkgBackup to restore back your jailbroken apps.

Jailbreak your iPod Touch 4G with limera1n

Here is how to jailbreak your iPod Touch 4G with limera1n. This method is not supported on MAC yet.

What you need:

Windows PC
If you are using MAC, you need to bootcamp with any windows version (XP, Vista, 7)
iPod Touch 4G
iPod dock connector
A lot of patience... :)

The Steps:

Please backup your iPod JUST IN CASE!
Plug your iPod Touch 4G into Windows.
Download limera1n from: http://www.limera1n.com/
Follow the steps (It's just "click" and "DFU Mode")
Wait till you see the limera1n logo on your iPod Touch 4G.
After that, your iPod Touch 4g will automatically shut down.
Move back to your Mac, and plug your iPod Touch 4G.
Unlock your device (slide to unlock), and turn your Wi-Fi on.
Open limera1n app., and tap on Cydia.
It will install Cydia.
After all is done, reboot!

Congratz!! You are done! :)

How to improve your Mac experience with useful window management techniques

As a hardcore Windows user, I enjoy being able to use shortcut keys to cycle through the applications I'm working on with minimum use of the mouse. The mouse is indeed a very great invention that improves interactivity between humans and machines. But still, nothing beats the use of shortcut keys. When combined you will vastly improve your efficiency and productivity greatly.

Being a first time Mac user, experimenting with the Mac that I bought for my wife has been a painful process. I feel so handicapped having to rely on the mouse most of the time, trying desperately to remember the Mac hotkeys that I had learnt. I can no longer double click on the Title bar to maximize/restore my window. Pointing the mouse to the "+" takes 1-2 seconds more than I would to maximize/restore on Windows.

Rearranging your working windows on your screen is a nightmare as well. I don't understand why we can only use the lower left-hand corner of the window for resizing. Windows is so much less restrictive. You can resize with any edge. Moreover, on Windows 7, you simply drag the window to the edge of your screen to arrange 2 windows neatly side by side, which in my view, short and sweet.

This calls for me to research on why there are still Mac lovers out there who insisted that Mac is definitely more user friendly than Windows. I found the Exposé feature on Max OS X which is something that you cannot find on Windows. Usually, fanciful stuffs are not 100% useful. The only reason they exist is to satisfy the emotional appetite of humans. But the Exposé feature is different. Its fanciful and yet useful at the same time. This will definitely be on my top useful list for a perfect Mac experience.

To conclude, this still doesn't address my expectations to arrange my working window side by side in a fast and efficient manner. My search will continue. If you have any tips, please share in the comments. Thanks.

Additionally, this third generation model can now hold up to 16GB of memory. The clone has been waiting for this capability for a long time. And, this one isn't so big and heavy. It's 11.5 X 6 X 1.2 centimeters. It still has the one button at the bottom and the minimalist fat touch screen, but it's a more stream lined phone. The old phone was only a tri band. This new one includes all 4 bands. Furthermore, the new fashionable Hiphone can be used with any GSM sim card, including those that are prepaid. Common networks that this fashionable Hiphone is used with is T Mobile, Fido, Rogers, and AT&T. It now includes the ability to flip the screens on the phone like turning the pages of a book.
Well, time has changed, so has Hiphone. The fashionable Hiphone of today beyond doubt has achieved great breakthrough for the sake of consumers' increasingly demanding requirements. The KA08 Is A Cute Mini Phone that is full of features: I think the main thing that draws people's attention to this phone, at least initially, is the small size. iPhone FaceTime Problems

Heres something I would like to share if your iPhone FaceTime is not working. What has happened? I have been searching numerous places but very few people talk about the missing FaceTime setting. Heres what I have consolidated.

1. Check your FaceTime setting
Go to Settings > Phone and verify your FaceTime is ON.

FaceTime Settings

If your FaceTime setting is missing, I am guessing that you have just jailbroken your phone. FaceTime will have problem working properly after you have jail broken. (Read more here). Do a Cydia update of the "Base Structure" package and the setting should appear after a reboot.

2. Check you are on WIFI
You should be on WIFI for the FaceTime to work. If you do not mind playing a small fee, my other post will share how to make FaceTime work on 3G.

3. Check your calling party is on iPhone 4
The person you are calling should also be on iPhone 4 with WIFI.

How much 3G data does FaceTime use?

The default FaceTime on iPhone uses WIFI. If you have jailbroken your iPhone, you can do 3G FaceTime as well. You will also need to know that 3G FaceTime will takes up around 180MB of data for a 60 minute call.

Apple Facetime allows you to do video call over WIFI. Actually this is no new technology. 3G video calls has already been around for quite sometime.

To turn on FaceTime, go to Settings > Phone > FaceTime > ON

However, please take note that you may be charged for a fee to activate FaceTime everytime you turn on FaceTime. Hence its recommended you leave FaceTime on after initial activation.

You will need to copy and paste the commands below into your Terminal application.

To show hidden files,

Apple offers free iPhone 4 case to fix antenna problem

In a press conference on 16 July, Steve Jobs officially addresses the iPhone antenna problem. He showed similar antenna problems also exist in popular smartphones like Blackberry Bold, HTC Droid Eris, Samsung Omnia II and its a challenge to the smartphone industry.

Apple wants to make everyone happy. They will give out free iPhone 4 case to advent the iPhone antenna problem. The iPhone 4 bumper is now available at $0 on Apple online store until 30 September. Apple will refund existing all iPhone bumper purchases already bought.

A full refund can be made if the iPhone 4 is still unsatisfactory.

There is no iPod Touch 3G for ...

I just sold away my new iPod Touch 8GB which I got from Apple Back To School promotion.

During the sales process, theres quite a few number of people asking me if its the iPod Touch 3G version.

Heres where the confusion lies. The iPod Touch 3G is only available on the 32GB or 64GB version. 8GB version if iPod Touch is only released up to 2G. You can find more information on the different models of iPod Touch released in Wikipedia.

There have been multiple reports on yellow spots seen at the corner of the iPhone 4 display screen. It is claimed that the discoloration is due to the adhesive used to bond the layers of glass in the screen together. The adhesive requires a period of drying time and needs time to disappear.

The iPhone 4 glass may shatter when dropped

The iPhone 4 front and back glass panel is made up of engineered glass. The material is in fact aluminosilicate glass which is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic and designed to be ultra durable. However, the caveat is that it will make the material more brittle and will shatters when dropped. Same thing as the windscreen shattering on impact. So new owners of iPhone 4, be careful not to drop your precious.

Switching over from Windows, I feel handicap without the Home, End, Page Up, Page Down buttons on a mac.

Sadly, the keyboard shortcut on mac is quite different...

Heres a mapping to switch from the windows shortcut

As I was doing some documentations on my new Mac, one of the few things that comes to mind is how do I do a print screen?

So heres the few possibilities:

1. Capture full screen

Hold down Command + Shift + 3
Release all
Done! Your screenshot is saved to your desktop.

2. Capture a specific area of your screen

Hold down Command + Shift + 4
Release all keys
Your mouse will turn into a crosshair, select the area you wanna capture
Done! Your screenshot is saved to your desktop

3. Capture the current active window

Hold down Command + Shift +4 (Yes its the same combo, no mistake)
Your mouse will turn into a crosshair
Press SPACEBAR once
Your mouse will turn into a camera
Mouse over the window you wanna capture, the window will appear to be hightlighted.
Click on it and you are done.
Your screenshot is saved to your desktop.

A bit different from Windows with the Alt+Printscreen combination with 3 keys involved instead of 2 keys. If your fingers are small, then have to get used to it.
