Heres some possible changes that we may see in iOS5..

Better Notifications. According to TechCrunch,
Apple is planning on rolling out a “completely revamped” notifications
system in iOS 5. Many users, my colleague Kevin C. Tofel included, find
the current implementation of iOS notifications to be clunky and
annoying. A change in the way those work is a likely target for Apple,
since it’s one of the more obvious areas where small changes could
represent a big improvement in the way the OS works as a whole.

Widgets. At the same time as it reported new
notifications were in the works, TechCrunch also said widgets were
planned for iOS 5. No details regarding how they might work were
included in the report, but they could look like Apple’s Dashboard
widgets for OS X, which provide live updating information at a glance
without having to be opened. Android features home screen widgets that
work in much the same way, providing at-a-glance weather information,
for example.

Nuance Voice Recognition Tech. Makers of Dragonsoft Naturally Speaking and voice recognition technology leader Nuance has been rumored to be in discussions with Apple
regarding the licensed use of its tech in Apple products. One reported
use of the tech is in iOS 5, where it will supposedly be available for
developer use via API. This is probably the least definite feature on
this list, but if true, it would make speech-based apps that much more
powerful on iOS devices.

Media Stream and Photo Stream. Evidence for new integrated device-wide streaming galleries and media libraries
has been found in iOS code, indicating that we might see the features
introduced in iOS 5. These could tie in to iCloud, the other big product
being unveiled at WWDC.

This method is not supported on MAC yet.

What you need:

Windows PC

If you are using MAC, you need to bootcamp with any windows version (XP, Vista, 7)

iPod Touch 4G

iPod dock connector

A lot of patience... :)

The Steps:

Please backup your iPod JUST IN CASE!

Plug your iPod Touch 4G into Windows.

Download limera1n from: http://www.limera1n.com/

Follow the steps (It's just "click" and "DFU Mode")

Wait till you see the limera1n logo on your iPod Touch 4G.

After that, your iPod Touch 4g will automatically shut down.

Move back to your Mac, and plug your iPod Touch 4G.

Unlock your device (slide to unlock), and turn your Wi-Fi on.

Open limera1n app., and tap on Cydia.

It will install Cydia.

After all is done, reboot!

Congratz!! You are done! :)

Some Reviews:
The jailbreak doesn't lag AT ALL. Previously, I was using iPod Touch 1G and so I am telling you, this is a huge significance.

LimeRa1n has just been released. If you have been following the major iPhone hackers on Twitter you will probably got a good feel of what to expect from LimeRa1n: a buggy and untested jailbreak.

So really, the question is: should you use LimeRa1n? Should you put your iPhone in jeopardy? Or should you wait for GreenPois0n or PwnageTool? [Read More]

*sigh*... To those who don't know. Geohot stole @comex's exploit + implementation to make it untethered. :(

cdevwill
RT @notcom: DON'T use limera1n. It is likely to mess up your device since it uses a BETA version of the untether (stolen) from @comex
Fine, geohot's release now has my approval, because otherwise everyone would use the initial (pulled) broken version. Ugh.
Geohot’s LimeRa1n jailbreak has been released, and even though it
comes with its fair share of downsides, it does work for some people.
Thanks to iDB reader Whammy who send me screenshots of LimeRa1n in
action, we’re now able to get a tutorial for you.

This step by step guide and tutorial will show you how to use LimeRa1n to jailbreak your iPhone iOS 4.1.
LimeRa1n will jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4. It will also
jailbreak the iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. As usual, proceed at your
own risks… Read More

As a hardcore Windows user, I enjoy being able to use shortcut keys to cycle through the applications I'm working on with minimum use of the mouse. The mouse is indeed a very great invention that improves interactivity between humans and machines. But still, nothing beats the use of shortcut keys. When combined you will vastly improve your efficiency and productivity greatly.

Being a first time Mac user, experimenting with the Mac that I bought for my wife has been a painful process. I feel so handicapped having to rely on the mouse most of the time, trying desperately to remember the Mac hotkeys that I had learnt. I can no longer double click on the Title bar to maximize/restore my window. Pointing the mouse to the "+" takes 1-2 seconds more than I would to maximize/restore on Windows.

Rearranging your working windows on your screen is a nightmare as well. I don't understand why we can only use the lower left-hand corner of the window for resizing. Windows is so much less restrictive. You can resize with any edge. Moreover, on Windows 7, you simply drag the window to the edge of your screen to arrange 2 windows neatly side by side, which in my view, short and sweet.

This calls for me to research on why there are still Mac lovers out there who insisted that Mac is definitely more user friendly than Windows. I found the Exposé feature on Max OS X which is something that you cannot find on Windows. Usually, fanciful stuffs are not 100% useful. The only reason they exist is to satisfy the emotional appetite of humans. But the Exposé feature is different. Its fanciful and yet useful at the same time. This will definitely be on my top useful list for a perfect Mac experience.

Heres a tutorial video that shows what I'm talking about...

To conclude, this still doesn't address my expectations to arrange my working window side by side in a fast and efficient manner. My search will continue. If you have any tips, please share in the comments.

The common parlance has it that where there is authorized products, there is copycat, or pirated clone products and where there is chic iPhone, there is Fashionable HiPhone. Yep, needless to say, for an iPhone-knock off, the HiPhone is pretty decent. But there are voices that Hiphone has the looks of the iPhone, but still lack heart and soul of the iPhone. But looking at the general picture of mobile phone market across the world in which great deals of general publics having jumped on the bandwagon for Hiphone, I really don't buy the above story that Hiphone can not pit against the iPhone.
As a matter of fact, to date the fashionable Hiphone, like the Bluetooth Hiphone Phone, has gained immense popularity as best seller Consumer Electronics. For all we know, the excitement that was generated when the original HiPhone i32 came out seems like an incredibly long time ago, although it really wasn't. It seems long in terms of time because so much has been improved with the iPhone clones between now and then. Still, the original HiPhone i32 was really innovative for it's time. It was one of the first clones to introduce the "shake and tilt" feature (where you can advance the phone by shaking it.) And, it was one of the first that had a decent finger touch interface. It allowed you to scroll through the phone and edit photos using only your fingers. There were some grumblings about the original i32. It was only tri band. It was a bit fat and bulky. And, it could only accommodate 2GB of memory. This 3rd generation model had rounded edges so it looks more like the iPhone and the housing is more slick. But nowadays Java has also been added so that you can add a lot more games, applications, and downloads, including Word and PowerPoint. Additionally, this third generation model can now hold up to 16GB of memory. The clone has been waiting for this capability for a long time. And, this one isn't so big and heavy. It's 11.5 X 6 X 1.2 centimeters. It still has the one button at the bottom and the minimalist fat touch screen, but it's a more stream lined phone. The old phone was only a tri band. This new one includes all 4 bands. Furthermore, the new fashionable Hiphone can be used with any GSM sim card, including those that are prepaid. Common networks that this fashionable Hiphone is used with is T Mobile, Fido, Rogers, and AT&T. It now includes the ability to flip the screens on the phone like turning the pages of a book.
Well, time has changed, so has Hiphone. The fashionable Hiphone of today beyond doubt has achieved great breakthrough for the sake of consumers' increasingly demanding requirements. Seeing is believing and seeing Hiphone is believing it is emanating iPhone and all the more experiencing Hiphone is relishing iPhone.

You may get a lot of questions about the quality and features of the Iphone KA08. Most people are intrigued by it when they see photos of it because: it's smaller; it has dual sim slots; it has all of the major features of the original; and it doesn't require any long term or expensive carriers or plans. However, sometimes there are doubts or hesitation as to whether this phone is really of a decent quality or whether it really works well. So, in the following, I'll offer my review of iphone KA08.

The KA08 Is A Cute Mini Phone that is full of features: I think the main thing that draws people's attention to this phone, at least initially, is the small size. Honestly, this is a pretty cute phone. And, it comes in tons of color options including pink, red, blue, green and yellow, as well as your basic blacks, reds, whites, and metallic. A lot of people like that it's no larger than a credit card and that it easily fits in your pocket without poking out or without rubbing up and down your upper leg the way that some of the larger touch screen phones do. So, in terms of appearance and the cuteness factor, it gets an A plus.

Now, concerning the features. Iphone KA08 is considered pretty loaded. It is a quad band. It does have to dual sim slots. It does support Bluetooth and it has media players (music and video) as well as FM radio, web browsing, email, texting, and a digital camera with video recording. It also has one cool bonus feature that you're either going to use a lot of you're not going to use at all - talking text. This means if you get a text and you're too rushed or you're driving and you don't want to have to look down to read your text, the phone will read it to you. It can also accommodate up to 8GB of memory.

If there is one thing missing from this phone, it's Java. Some people find that to be no big deal, considering all of the other things that it offers, but some really like the productivity applications that one can download via Java.

How easy is the iphone KA08 To Use? Is it of a decent quality? If you've ever used or seen a iphone KA08, then I can tell you that this one is fairly typical and that this is a good thing. It has a pretty responsive, high definition touch screen that makes using it pretty fast. The menu and welcome screens are pretty intuitive and the sound quality on both calls and music / video is quite good. The phone is sort of known for their speakers and this one doesn't disappoint. Web browsing is pretty decent and quick too. The camera takes good enough pictures. And the phone feels quite solid and respectable to me.

I'm often asked how hard it is to text on this small phone. It's not too bad, especially if you have smaller hands. But if you're hands are large, there is a stylus that will make this quicker and easier. So, iphone KA08 does have all of the bells and whistles and for the most part, the quality is there. Price wise, this one is usually under $100 and that only tells part of the story because the savings continue over the life of the phone. You aren't bound to any one carrier with iphone KA08. These phones can use any GSM sim card, including pre paid or pay as you go. If you're using a pre paid all in one card (Internet, talk, text, etc.), you can often do everything that you need to do on your cell phone for just over $20 per month. This makes this phone very attractive to a lot of people. If you are looking for iphone KA08, online marketplace should be on the top of your list. After all, it's really cheaper while with competitive quality. What's more IPhone I9B is on hot sale on online marketplace now. Give yourself another choice. Here one news from online marketplace is that if you buy iphone KA08 on Topons which features Wholesale Electronics, then you get $10 coupon, and the coupon code is ACD8J.

(ARA) - When fingers get pointed in debates over the obesity epidemic in the United States, technology sometimes shoulders some of the blame. Time in front of computer screens or television is often listed as part of the reason why Americans aren't as healthy as they have been in the past. But the truth is there are also technological advances that have the potential to guide you in your quest for a healthier lifestyle, whether that is eating right, exercising or keeping tabs on vital numbers that are important to your health.

Take smart phone applications for example. Nowadays, you can find applications for just about anything in life that might capture your interest, and healthy living is no exception. So if you're looking to stay fit and healthy, here are six mobile apps that give you and your family a little extra help:

Lose It!: Counting calories is perhaps the simplest and most effective way to keep track of your health goals, especially if it involves weight loss. But it's difficult to do all the adding and subtracting in your head, which is where the free app Lose It! comes in. The app allows you to enter what you eat each day and calculates not only calories, but fat, protein, cholesterol and carbohydrates based on portion size. It also allows you to enter different types of workouts, from walking to yoga, to see how many calories you will burn while you are exercising.

Carb Counting with Lenny: This app is designed to help children with diabetes count carbohydrates to help manage their diabetes, but can be of use to anyone. Using their mascot Lenny the Lion, who also uses insulin pump therapy, Medtronic Diabetes introduced this app, which allows children with type 1 diabetes to learn about carbohydrate levels in basic foods. The application also allows users to create a customizable food guide using their own photos or ones they find on the Internet, as well as play games to test their carb-counting knowledge. Periodic contests and giveaways (www.medtronicdiabetes.com/carb-counting-contest) are announced to reward registered users who get highest game scores. Medtronic Diabetes, which makes such products as continuous glucose monitoring devices, designed the app to be useful and educational for both children with diabetes and others who are interested in monitoring carb intake.

Size Me Up: Another application for kids. This one allows children to enter their current height and receive estimates for how tall they might be in the future, at any given age. This can be used to help keep your child motivated to eat right, so they can grow up to be tall and healthy.

BP Buddy: This application allows people who are monitoring their blood pressure to input their blood pressure numbers and heart rate numbers and log them for up to 60 days. An e-mail feature allows users to send their numbers to their doctor for analysis.

The Carrot: As an interactive journal, this application allows you to track multiple items related to health. In addition to entering information on meals, workouts, and even medication, you can also enter your assessment of your moods or the level of job satisfaction you are feeling at the moment to see if you can pinpoint what healthy habits work best for you.

FitReach: This training and diet application allows you to enter information on your meals, as well as workouts. It also encourages you to do regular weigh-ins so you can compare your weight loss with your goals on graphs that are a part of the app.

Applications are available on iTunes and can also be downloaded through your iPhone, smart phone or other compatible mobile device.
So after you have got your precious iPhone, what kind of matching accessories should you be looking for?

First on the list is the casing. I personally recommends ZAGG InvisibleShield which provides total body protection against scratches with lifetime warranty replacement on a 0.2mm thin film. If you prefer the typical casing, theres a lot on Amazon that you can check out.

Next you will need is to invest in a screen protectors. Better be safe than sorry. You wouldn't want irritating scratches to be appearing on your retina display. Some casing already comes with free screen protectors. If you buy ZAGG invisible shield, you already have a screen protector. If not, check out Amazon for a few.

Often, 1 data cable from Apple is not enough to satisfy our iPhone lust. You will be so addicted to the millions of applications out there that you will be using your phone more often of the time. Hence its crucial to have your iPhone charged up wherever possible.

If you are driving a car, you will need a iPhone 4 car kit. If you realised, using iPhone as a navigational device is often limited by the amount of battery life. Some recommendations from Amazon are

What has happened? I have been searching numerous places but very few people talk about the missing FaceTime setting. Heres what I have consolidated.

1. Check your FaceTime setting
Go to Settings > Phone and verify your FaceTime is ON.

FaceTime Settings

If your FaceTime setting is missing, I am guessing that you have just jailbroken your phone. FaceTime will have problem working properly after you have jail broken. (Read more here). Do a Cydia update of the "Base Structure" package and the setting should appear after a reboot.

2. Check you are on WIFI
You should be on WIFI for the FaceTime to work. If you do not mind playing a small fee, my other post will share how to make FaceTime work on 3G.

3. Check your calling party is on iPhone 4
The person you are calling should also be on iPhone 4 with WIFI.

Facetime over 3G!!!!
My3G: Take back your 3G! My3G makes Apps believe that they are on WiFi instead of 3G. With My3G, you can now watch HiDef YouTube videos, use Skype/Fring/Other VOIP apps over the 3G network!

Features:

- In-App popup request to enable/never ask for My3G to be enabled for that app

- In-App indicator when My3G changes the network from 3G to WiFi

- Ability to select which apps are My3G enabled and not.

- Default Apps - no configuration for the most popular apps!

- SBSettings Toggle! You can temporarily enable My3G for all apps or toggle back using your defined Apps list

- Dynamic enablement - Higher successs rate (near 100%) then 3G Unrestrictor (which does one off solutions for apps). My3G enables 3G indicators more dynamically.

Actually this is no new technology. 3G video calls has already been around for quite sometime.

To turn on FaceTime, go to Settings > Phone > FaceTime > ON

However, please take note that you may be charged for a fee to activate FaceTime everytime you turn on FaceTime. Hence its recommended you leave FaceTime on after initial activation.

Singtel Charges
FaceTime activation SMS charge of $0.18/SMS will be waived for a limited period. Roaming charges apply if the activation is done while roaming overseas.

StarHub Charges
FaceTime activation SMS charge of $0.15/SMS

M1 Charges
Anyone knows the activation fee for M1? Leave me a comment. ;)

Phones are not perfect

All smartphones are not perfect. Its an industry challenge. All other smartphones faces the same issue.

The problem is demostrated on a video presentation showing Blackberry Bold, HTC Droid Eris, Samsung Omnia II

Market Statistics

Market survey shows a small percentage of users are affected by the antenna problems

Apple Care Data statistics showed 0.55% of iPhone users called Apple Care to complained about the antenna problem

ATT iPhone 4 return rates is 1.7% when compared to iPhone 3GS 6.0%

ATT call drop rates showed that there are more call drops per 100 calls compared to iPhone 3GS. But its only less than 1 additional calls.

During the sales process, theres quite a few number of people asking me if its the iPod Touch 3G version.

Heres where the confusion lies. The iPod Touch 3G is only available on the 32GB or 64GB version. 8GB version if iPod Touch is only released up to 2G. You can find more information on the different models of iPod Touch released in Wikipedia.

Though there is no iPod Touch 3G for the 8GB version, it will come with the new iOS 4 software as well. However, multitasking and on some models homescreen was disabled for the second
generation iPod Touch because Apple thought the iPod was too slow for
these features.

Heres the top 3 problems encountered by current iPhone 4 owners that you need to be aware of before you place your order.

iPhone 4 yellow screen
There have been multiple reports on yellow spots seen at the corner of the iPhone 4 display screen. It is claimed that the discoloration is due to the adhesive used to bond the layers of glass in the screen together. The adhesive requires a period of drying time and needs time to disappear.
[More info from Apple Support]

The iPhone 4 glass may shatter when dropped

The iPhone 4 front and back glass panel is made up of engineered glass. The material is in fact aluminosilicate glass which is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic and designed to be ultra durable. However, the caveat is that it will make the material more brittle and will shatters when dropped. Same thing as the windscreen shattering on impact. So new owners of iPhone 4, be careful not to drop your precious.

The 'Death Grip'
When the iPhone 4 is hold in a certain way, the reception will be lost. I have wrote about this in my earlier post regarding fixing this issue. Not to worry, Apple is already working on a patch iOS 4.0.1 to fix this. Should expect the patch to be available pretty soon.

So heres the few possibilities:

1. Capture full screen

Hold down Command + Shift + 3

Release all

Done! Your screenshot is saved to your desktop.

2. Capture a specific area of your screen

Hold down Command + Shift + 4

Release all keys

Your mouse will turn into a crosshair, select the area you wanna capture

Done! Your screenshot is saved to your desktop

3. Capture the current active window

Hold down Command + Shift +4 (Yes its the same combo, no mistake)

Your mouse will turn into a crosshair

Press SPACEBAR once

Your mouse will turn into a camera

Mouse over the window you wanna capture, the window will appear to be hightlighted.

Click on it and you are done.

Your screenshot is saved to your desktop.

A bit different from Windows with the Alt+Printscreen combination with 3 keys involved instead of 2 keys. If your fingers are small, then have to get used to it.
