WOMEN in Tanimbar are of an independent spirit. It’s taboo for them to sit idly by while their husbands are hard at work to feed the families.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Lodowina Takendekut is one of these women. After preparing the family’s meals, Lodowina would go straight to the farm located not far from home. Daily she would spend much of her time on the 150squaremeter farm growing onions and groundnuts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The first harvest was very encouraging, producing 60 kilograms of onions. Each kilogram sold for Rp150,000 on the market. It means that Lodowina took home Rp9 million in income from the first harvest.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was a big income for Lodowina. Since she joined a farm group called Lolorain, Lodowina has learned better farming methods. She found out that she could plant not only groundnuts but also onions on her farm.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
“The last groundnut harvest was disappointing because of plant disease,” said Lodowina. Now she focuses on onions, although she still grows groundnuts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Although two members of her group resigned, Lodowina and seven others remained. Last week they agreed to set aside a portion of their income into a group fund.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Lodowina and her fellow members have decided to form a loan and savings cooperative so that they won’t have to rely any longer on capital assistance from Yayasan Sor Silai, an Oxfam GB partner, which has been facilitating the group’s development.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The idea of forming a cooperative has also been expressed by Griffina Siyompuai, a seaweed farmer determined to release womenfolk and her group of seaweed farmers in the village from dependence on outsiders for assistance.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
“We had the group formed last year, but we realized then that we couldn’t continue relying on others for assistance,” she said. “We must be independent and the only way to be so is for us to form a cooperative.”&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Before receiving assistance from Yayasan Sor Silai, Griffina had worked on farming on a plot of land just outside her house. Early this year she began raising seaweed with the seeds, ropes and other necessary materials provided by Yayasan Sor Silai.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Griffina has since had two seaweed harvests. The first harvest produced six gunny bags of wet seaweed, the second five bags. After drying, the volume reduced to an average of two gunny bags. Traders in Saumlaki buy the dried seaweed for Rp100,000. One kilo of dried seaweed sells for Rp5,000. Harvesting takes place about 45 days after planting&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Griffina produces 30 kilos of seaweed a harvest, generating Rp150,000 in income, enough to make her optimistic of the future of seaweed growing.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Veronica Kelbulan, a 20 year old seaweed farmer, feels the same way. That afternoon she and her husband Amus didn’t mind sweating in the sun. It was the day of the first harvest of their seaweed farm.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Veronica joined her group of seaweed farmers only recently to earn additional income. As a small fishing family living on a small income, her decision to join the group was enthusiastically supported by her husband. She heard from fishermen’s wives who had already joined the group that seaweed farming was not a difficult vocation.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Seaweed seed and other necessary material for seaweed farming were provided by Yayasan Sor Silai which also trained members of the group on good farming methods.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
“It’s easy work for women,” said Amus. “Every time I go to the sea, I always take time to see our seaweed farm and clean the ropes of anything that attaches to them.”&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Amus and Veronica plan to use proceeds from the sales of their seaweed to buy a bigger boat with a bigger engine of their own. The boat they use now is rented from its owner.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Amus himself is a member of a fishermen’s group. With savings collected from members, the group aims not only to have every member with his own boat, but also rent out surplus boats to other fishermen. Proceeds from the rentals would add to the group’s savings fund.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Not only fishermen of productive years are enthusiastic. Yustina Batumuleng, a 51yearold, refused to just stay home. Although all her children had grown up, she decided to live on her own, not relying on them for a living.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Old age makes Yustina eager to live and work. Daily, after a clothweaving routine, she would go to the farm and inspect 250 banana trees which he planted on the land in 2006. The seedlings were provided by Yayasan Sor Silai.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Each week Yustina would sell her bananas to buyers on a market nearer to home. “I don’t have to go to other villages because most of the buyers are from my own village,” she said smiling. Each hand of bananas sells for Rp35,000 and each bunch between Rp3,000 and Rp5,000.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Last year at the urging of Yayasan Sor Silai, Yustina also grew cassava roots, green peas, and other plants in between the bananas to generate even more income.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At the same time Yustina also continued to earn from cloth weaving. “Cloth weaving is my principal work, farming is only a side activity to spend idle hours,” said Yustina.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Yustina produces various woven cloth, including sarong, long fabrics, and shawls. A long fabric sells from Rp100,000 to Rp300,000 apiece. A shawl is cheaper as it doesn’t require much material, work and time. Yustina is assisted by a woman six years older and who is happy with her work.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Since 2006, Paulina has had several banana harvests, saving portions of her income. She and other members of her group have decided to form a cooperative with the initial capital drawn from their savings. The cooperative aims to manage the fund and help members market their produce.&lt;br /&gt;

They may be so scared that they won't leave the house. School refusal is most common in 5- and 6-year-olds and in 10- and 11-year-olds, but it can start at any age. &lt;br /&gt;

The problem might start after a child has been home for awhile, such as after a holiday, summer vacation, or brief illness. It also might happen after a stressful event, such as moving to a new house or the death of a pet or relative. &lt;br /&gt;

School refusal :&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;The child is unreasonably scared of going to school. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The child might pretend to be sick or say he or she doesn't want to go to school. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The child usually wants to stay home because he or she feels safe there. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Truancy &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The child chooses not to go to school. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The child skips school and doesn't tell his or her parents. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The child may have antisocial behaviors such as delinquency, lying, and stealing. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&amp;nbsp;Children who won't go to school often say they feel sick. They might wake up and say they have a headache, stomachache, or sore throat. If they stay home from school, the "illness" might go away, but it comes back the next morning before school. Some children may have crying spells or temper tantrums. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What other problems are children with school refusal likely to have? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Children with school refusal may worry about the safety of their parents or themselves. They may not want to be in a room by themselves, and they may be scared of the dark. They also may have trouble falling asleep by themselves and might have nightmares. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What is the difference between school refusal and "playing hooky"? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Children who are truant (or "playing hooky") are not scared to go to school the way children with school refusal are. The table below compares some of the characteristics of school refusal and truancy. &lt;br /&gt;

What should I do if my child refuses to go to school? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Take your child to the doctor. Anxiety or a physical illness might be causing the problem. You also should talk to your child's teacher or school counselor. &lt;br /&gt;

How will I know if my child is really sick? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Your child's doctor will be able to rule out any illness that may be causing the problem. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
How is school refusal treated? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Unreasonable fears about leaving home can be treated. Parents must keep trying to get their child to go back to school. Your child's doctor may want your child to talk to a psychologist, social worker, or child psychiatrist. The doctor also might prescribe medicine to help with your child's anxiety. &lt;br /&gt;

The longer your child stays out of school, the harder it will be to return. The goal of treatment is to help your child learn ways to reduce anxiety and return to school. &lt;br /&gt;

Children who do not go to school for long periods may develop serious learning setbacks or social problems. Children who do not get professional help might have emotional problems such as anxiety when they get older. There function is to release egg cells and to produce hormones. They usually produce one egg per month. Their hormonal function is unique. The normal ovary produces two very important hormones but in a very special unique way. For the first half of the menstrual cycle only Estrogen is produce but in the latter half the ovary also starts producing another hormone Progesterone. Refer to normal menstruation to see the effect of these hormones on the endometrium. The ovary also produces small amounts of testosterone ( the so called male sex hormone). &lt;br /&gt;

When a baby girl is born , her ovaries contain all the egg cells (ova) she will ever possess. The egg cells are formed during intra uterine life and no new egg cells are formed after birth. This is why women enter the menopause when ALL THEIR EGG CELLS ARE USED UP. &lt;br /&gt;

The pregnancy hormone, hCG, is made in your body when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This usually happens about 6 days after conception. But studies show that the embryo doesn't implant until later in some women. The amount of hCG increases drastically with each passing day you are pregnant.&lt;br /&gt;

Many home pregnancy tests claim they can tell if you're pregnant on the day you expect your period. But a recent study shows that most don't give accurate results this early in pregnancy. Waiting one week after a missed period will usually give a more accurate answer.&lt;br /&gt;

These days, most women first use home pregnancy tests (HPT) to find out if they are pregnant. HPTs are inexpensive, private, and easy to use. Urine tests will be able to tell if you're pregnant about 2 weeks after ovulation. Some more sensitive urine tests claim that they can tell if you are pregnant as early as one day after a missed period.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If a HPT says you are pregnant, you should call your doctor right away. Your doctor can use a more sensitive test along with a pelvic exam to tell for sure if you're pregnant. Seeing your doctor early on in your pregnancy will help you and your baby stay healthy.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Doctors use two types of blood tests to check for pregnancy. Blood tests can pick up human chorionic gonadotropin ( hCG) earlier in a pregnancy than urine tests can. Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant about 6 to 8 days after you ovulate (or release an egg from an ovary). A quantitative blood test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of hCG in your blood. So it can find even tiny amounts of hCG. This makes it very accurate. Qualitative hCG blood tests just check to see if the pregnancy hormone is present or not. So it gives a yes or no answer. The qualitative hCG blood test is about as accurate as a urine test.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;How do you do a home pregnancy test? &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
There are many different types of home pregnancy tests, or HPTs. Most drugstores sell HPTs over-the-counter. They cost between $8 and $20 depending on the brand and how many tests come in the box.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Most popular HPTs work in a similar way. The majority tell the user to hold a stick in the urine stream. Others involve collecting urine in a cup and then dipping the stick into it. At least one brand tells the woman to collect urine in a cup and then put a few drops into a special container with a dropper. Testing the urine first thing in the morning may help boost accuracy.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then the woman needs to wait a few minutes. Different brands instruct the woman to wait different amounts of time. Once the time has passed, the user should inspect the "result window." If a line or plus symbol appears, you are pregnant. It does not matter how faint the line is. A line, whether bold or faint, means the result is positive.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Most tests also have a "control indicator" in the result window. This line or symbol shows whether the test is working or not. If the control indicator does not appear, the test is not working properly. You should not rely on any results from a HPT that may be faulty.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Most brands tell users to repeat the test in a few days, no matter what the results. One negative result (especially soon after a missed period) does not always mean you're not pregnant. All HPTs come with written instructions. Most tests also have toll-free phone numbers to call in case of questions about use or results.&lt;br /&gt;

They started when we were as young as 2, being told “No” when we asked our mom for more candy. Cut one. Then again when we wanted to play in the dirt. Cut two. Then when we got mad for not getting our way when we were 5. Cut three. Our first argument with our best friend. Our first breakup. Our first academic disappointment. Our first screw-up in sports. Our first horrible performance on an exam. In gym. For an oral presentation. Our first job interview.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We don’t always feel them deeply when they first occur. Sometimes a little cut is barely felt, but then it grows deeper and deeper with time. Some people never get over some of their cuts. Many take their own lives, because the cut, instead of healing, grew into such a large wound that it consumed their entire lives.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The cuts add up. Before you know it, you’re in your twenties and the cuts start to drag you down a little. Some of us have something called “resilience,” which means we rebound much quicker from the cuts and they don’t hurt as much. Others don’t have as much of this, or had it at one time and slowly lost it over time. Resilience isn’t well understood by psychologists yet, but having more of it makes life easier. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Cuts take their toll on our lives. We reel from the disappointment, the loss, the feelings of not being as good as we thought we were (or were told by our parents, or others). We feel the acute pain of the cut and it feels very much like we will never feel “normal” or happy again. Sometimes, a cut can make us hopeless, without a future.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I think some cuts run deeper than others, for instance, our first serious relationship that ends, or the loss of a parent, best friend or beloved family member. It can be hard (and maybe, in some cases, even impossible) to recover from such cuts. They never heal, we just learn to live with them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All of these cuts try their hardest to teach us things. A cut about not getting what we want reminds us that life is full of disappointments and we should learn instead to better appreciate what we already have. A cut about a relationship breakup reminds us about the fleeting nature of human love and desire, and that if a relationship isn’t nurtured on a daily basis, like any flower in our garden, it can wither and die. A cut about losing a job or doing poorly in an interview can show us that the career or position we thought we needed was perhaps not as clear-cut as we imagined, suggesting a re-evaluation of our skills and goals. A cut from a close person’s death is a simple reminder of the shortness of our life here. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We can choose to learn from these thousand cuts, or we can choose to ignore them and simply bear the pain. Some choose the latter path, and go through life with the burden of a thousand unhealed cuts weighing them down. How can they live in such pain? Few can, so many choose an end to their own pain, or turn to other answers (such as religion). But still, it’s hard living with so many cuts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Others choose to learn from the cuts, and let them heal. Learning from such pain isn’t always easy, nor quick. Sometimes it can take time — weeks, months, even years. But learning teaches us the value of life, and lessons about life that the sooner we learn, the more enjoyable (and livable) life becomes. Pain is transformed into knowledge, and more often than not, self-knowledge. And self-knowledge is empowering.&lt;br /&gt;

We go through our everyday lives with the pain of a thousand cuts. But once we learn those cuts are trying to teach us something, the pain lessens. The cut heals. We are very different persons from the ones we were before we had children, and most, if not all, of these differences are for the better. Although personal growth is sometimes hard, we've had a lot of fun along the way. Fun in your life with your baby is what will convince you and the baby that life is good. Enjoy your baby!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
How you mother your baby does make a difference.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mothering in the twentieth century has become a tricky business. We can take our babies' survival pretty much for granted, and in this way we differ from all the mothers who have come before us. Instead we worry about whether our babies will grow up to be happy and productive, a more complicated issue.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Nobody yet has scientifically tested and perfected a parenting system that guarantees children will turn out okay. Much of the research focuses on what goes wrong, rather than what goes right, and psychologists from Freud onward have often laid the blame on mothers. This creates a lot of anxiety, as mothers struggle to raise psychologically healthy children. Mothers often feel that the stakes are high on everything they do, and the possibility of making serious mistakes makes the job of parenting seem frightening.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In reaction to Freud, there's another school of thought that suggests that mothers aren't all that critical to their children's psyches. Children need dependable caregivers, yes, but these are more or less interchangeable, and group care not only is satisfactory, it also makes children independent at an earlier age. Babies do prefer their parents, but they really don't need all that one-on-one attention that goes along with traditional mothering. It's interesting that these theories have evolved at a time when more and more mothers of young children are in the workforce.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So where do you fit in? How important are you, a responsive, nurturing, trustworthy mother, to your baby's development? How do you know if you're making a difference?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In the parenting business, science often fails us. It's hard to study behavior that is as complicated as mother-and-infant interactions, much less relate these interactions to how children behave and feel years later. "Experts" speculate, spinning advice out of tiny threads of evidence, but who really knows?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I believe that experienced parents--parents of children who are turning out well---have the answers. Bill and I have talked to thousands of wise and seasoned mothers over the years, and while we don't pretend that this is a scientific sample, we do feel confident about relaying what we've learned from all these families. We believe that how you mother your children makes a difference in the kind of people they become.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The mothering advice that we have given in this book reflects a style that we call attachment parenting. For babies, attachment parenting includes closeness right from birth, responding sensitively to cries, baby wearing, sharing sleep, and breastfeeding. The involvement of the father, both directly with the baby and in support of the mother, is also important. These practices together make up a very nurturing style of baby care, one that yields a wonderful sensitivity between mother and child. The mother understands what the baby is thinking, most of the time, and the baby responds well to the mother's care. Babies who experience attachment parenting rarely need to cry to get their needs met (though they may cry plenty when something hurts or bothers them), because they can communicate in other, more subtle ways. Mothers who nurture in this style feel confident that they are doing the right things for their children, because they feel they can perceive their babies' needs, and because their babies are happiest when they are most responsive. Even high-need babies can be mellowed by this style of parenting into children who are fun to be with.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are long-range benefits to attachment parenting. As a baby cared for this way turns into a toddler, he is easy to manage. His mother has a pretty good idea of what he is trying to do or say, so the young explorer is less likely to get terribly frustrated. Since he trusts his mother and wants very much to stay in her good graces, a word of warning or some creative redirection from her is often all that's needed to head off problem behavior.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As children of attached parents grow older, the benefits continue. These kids internalize their parents' sensitivity toward them. They have an inner sense of what is right and are bothered when situations violate their values. They know themselves well and can remain true to their own character in the midst of a crowd going in another direction. They are compassionate and understanding with other people. Having learned intimacy from their early closeness with their parents, they go on to establish and maintain healthy relationships with other people. They bring their parents joy and pride.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So, are you important to your baby? Yes, you are. You as his mother know him best and are the person he trusts most and will look to for guidance in the months and years to come. You are his window to the world and his faithful interpreter of what is going on inside him. Your relationship is built on a long history of knowing each other, a history that begins even before birth. Because this relationship is grounded in love and trust and many small interactions, it can tolerate mistakes and misunderstandings. No single moment is critically important. What counts is the harmony that is developing between you.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So relax and enjoy your baby. This is a special time in your life, and while it's full of worries and adjustments, it is also full of wonder. You have much to look forward to. Being a mother can enrich every corner of your life. Get ready for a marvelous journey.&lt;br /&gt;

A slow rate causes the blood to take longer to reach the outside and old blood becomes darker . The womb forms substances that prevent clot formation and a normal menstruation is clot free. A fast rate prevent these anti clotting substances to be effective and clots form. &lt;br /&gt;

Since you have undergone TAH/BSO, replacement therapy will be beneficial in preventing osteoporosis, and a number of other physical changes associated with oophorectomy. &lt;blockquote&gt;A: A cyst may sometimes bleed. It doesn't necessarily mean it is cancerous. It can be tested with a sonogram guided needle biopsy to determine what it is before any surgery is done. Q: I recently had a mammogram and ultrasound which confirmed a cyst in my breast. My doctor aspirated the cyst, but it immediately filled back up. I am not sure if I should have it reaspirated, removed, or just leave it as it is. Suggestions?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;blockquote&gt;A: Based on your description, it would probably be most prudent to remove the entire cyst and send it for pathology. It is considered minor surgery and will not require general anesthesia. Once it is removed, you will have a complete answer, and it will be gone. Q: I just found out that I may have a 2cm fibroadenoma. The radiologist suggested a needle biopsy or complete removal of it. I don't know what I should do. Does anyone have any suggestions or is there anyone out there that has had either of these procedures done? &lt;blockquote&gt;A: A fibroadenoma does not necessarily have to be removed. But you do have to PROVE that that's all it is. A core needle biopsy should suffice. If it turns out to be a benign fibroadenoma, you can leave it alone. The only reason to remove it would be if it continued to grow and was becoming uncomfortable or distorting the breast or creating other problems. &lt;blockquote&gt;A: Mammary duct ectasia is not an infection of the breast. Using antibiotics, no matter what type, will therefore not 'cure' the situation. If cultures of a breast discharge have been performed and a specific bacteria that is treatable with cipro or any other antibiotic has been identified, and you are having symptoms related to true infection, then antibiotics may help.
